2012-03-28 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland

I'm 100% sure yes.

It says flat out, that it's there and tells me thedate and time it was
downloaded.

so, yeah, I'm totally baffled.

BTW, I was under the impression someone told me Avid was open 24/7.

What do you do if you have to work a late night 3rd shift session, and are
having issues?

Where did I hear it was 24/7 I wonder?

Chris.

Chris,

I have to say, it sounds to me like you don't have an authorization on your
iLok. I know Steve said that some versions of Pro Tools come with an
authorization already on an iLok and I won't argue with that although I've
never heard of such a thing. That aside, are you 100% certain that your iLok
contains a license for Pro Tools? I mean, if you go to iLok.com, insert your
key and synchronize it you can see the Pro Tools 9 authorization on the key?

I've had no issues with getting a human on the phone at Avid when
registering a product. I think you shouldn't give up on calling them to get
help with the registration process.

As I said, when I log into the avid.com site with my account, if I go

Why is that?

I definitely did register and I know it was successful as I got the

Ok first off, to clear up some confusion. ProTOols 9 and ProTools9 MP do
come with an ilok with the PT liscense already on it. It's HD that comes
with a blank iLok and you have to put the liscense on it. As for the next
issue. You can install PT9 on lion and then update to version 9.05 to get
it lion compatible and it should work find then. I did this very thing
with two macs that are running lion myself. My advise to you.Find out what
the ID, Serial#, and Release codes are that are on the registration card
taht came with your DVDs. Call Avid, enter in the appropriate info from
the phone keypad when prompted and unlock your 60 days of free tech
support. Then when you get human, have them remote into your system and do
it for you. Not sure where the issue lies, could be a faulty dvdas was
mentioned in a previous email, but rest assured it s possible. Or just pay
for the PT 10 upgrade. I know i have seen upgrade pricing for PT 9 MP, PT
9, and PT 9 HD.

It will only show you downloads for full versions of products .. since the
updates are available freely outside of the members area. It usually only shows
you the download for the full version of products. For example if you were to

The 003 does not determine sample rate. sample rate is set when you create

the "Save Copy In?" command to save the session in a different sample rate.

Chris,

I'm afraid I can't suggest anything other than to speak with your Sweetwater
rep and Avid. I've never herd of an iLok with an authorization pre-installed
either. I'm also not familiar with your specific flavor of Pro Tools,
unfortunately. From what you're saying, it appears that you might have a
damaged DVD as well. Hang in there and be patient. See what the folks say
tomorrow.

Re: Installation and Activation: This? is! Driving? me, to drinking!

2012-03-28 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland

Slao,

I managed to go to my ilok account and sure enough, now I'm seeing I have
one ilok tied to my account, and it does show Protools pt9's license is
indeed on it.

The strange bizarre thing though is the 9.05 updater keeps failing in Lion
when I run it.

I also am noticing that the dvd which is 9.0 is being very problimatic.
It's not installing hardly at all. It keeps failing.

Once I get it to install, I'm going around and around in circles as I then
try before even openning PT V 9.0, to install the 9.5 updater. This wasn't
download from my avid.com account. I'm honestly not totally szure where the
guy at Sweetwater got it. It was on the Avid web site but I don't know
where as he had control of my system with Team Meeting and just basically
did it for me.

The bizarre thing is, we did use the yellow registration card included in
the box, with the ID, serial, and release code.

That card doesn't have an activation number. I think that's cause the ILok
already had the license asset on it. I guess once I actually added the Ilok
to my ilok.com account, it syncronized and added the license into my
ilok.com web account. It just totally is baffling me now that the license
is there on the ilok dongle, why on earth is it that when I try running the
9.05 updater does it either 1, fail, or 2, if I re-run it after it fails,
even after rebooting my mac, it keeps saying no valid Protools installation
found. If I then look under /applications in my Finder, then go to
/digidesign/ProTools, I see protools Utilities.app, but I don't see the
Protools mp.app that used to be there before I ran the updater.

The weird thing too is, if I go to:

http://www.avid.com

Then I click on My Account, log in with my credentials, then go to download
and activate my products, it wants an activation code. Well, I can't do
that because the MAudio version doesn't have! an activation code. You don't
need one! It's already there on the dongle that you get inside the box that
they bundle with it. I didn't have to go buy the thing from ilok.com. I
already got this one with the asset included. Anyway, no downloads show up.
If I then click home, I'm returned to the Manage account page. From here,
if I click on Your Products, it tells me no downloads found.

So, it's not like I can get the full 9.5 installer, not just the updater.

I'm just totally beside myself in perplexion. I mean, this really makes no
sense! What new nuance am I missing here!

Your urgent help is greatly appreciated.

If you have a minute, I'll off list e-mail you my number.

Maybe we together can figure out what the heck is going on! Also, anyone
else feel free to chime in as well, if you have an idea.

Remember, I do not have SnowLeopard and this was not previously ever
installed on SL. I do have my SL install DVD's, but God forbid, I really
don't wanna go back to SL just! to get PT installed and updated. I mean,
ok, I'll do it as a very last resort, but...

Wy didn't I get V 10 of PT, I have no idea! Christopher Geissler told me,
from Sweetwater that being this is MP version, I can't freely upgrade to
V10.

It's not that I find SW a bad company, but I'm starting to wonder if MP9
can't be installed directly clean on Lion correctly. If you install it on
SL, then update to 9.05, then update to Lion, I'm wonderring if that's how
you gotta do it.

I'm sorry to be so lengthy, I'm just throwing a few theories out for us all
to consider. I kind a wish that this had more thoroughly been researched,
as everyone I asked at SW told me yes, out of the box, they're not gonna
give you a version of PT that won't run on Lion, being that's the latest up
to date OS. FYI: I'm starting to wonder if they're wrong.

Again, I'm not blaming them, I just wonder if the research wasn't thoroughly
done on their part. After Christopher called me back tonight, he begged for
my mercy, at around 8:30, and said he had to leave as his wife was texting
him yoddie yoddie yodda, then gives me this long story about how he is gonna
be upgrading to a mac but knows nothing about Protools on the Mac, as he
always did it on the PC. Why would he sell me something for a mac, if he
doesn't know the setup process himself? That makes me extremely angry!

Anyway, enough of that. Again, not complaining, I'm simply saying I'm very
disappointed.

I probably won't be going through them again for future products, but that's
neither here nor there.

Re: Installation and Activation: This? is! Driving? me, to drinking!

2012-03-28 Thread Slau Halatyn
Chris,

I've never heard of an iLok authorization already being on an iLok. The way it
works is that you register on the Avid site, provide them with your activation
code, provide your iLok user name (which you need to create an iLok account
first) and then they deposit the authorization into your account, you download
the authorization to your iLok key and then you're done. Just because you have
a physical iLok doesn't mean there's an authorization on there already. Now,
things may be a little different with the M-Audio stuff but I highly doubt it.
Let us know how it works out.

Interesting Observation

2012-03-28 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
My DVD installer seems to keep consistently hanging at 97.3% with about a
minute remaining. I'm not sure if it's gonna finish. It's actually been
now sitting here at that point for almost 15 minutes!

Chris.

Installation and Activation: This? is! Driving? me, to drinking!

2012-03-28 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
I spoke to Sweetwater about this, and they're not sure what is going on. I
tried calling Avid directly, and, well... you know how hard it is to get a
live human there. If you don't, trust me, you're lucky you've not had to
find out the hard way as I have! So, here's hoping Kevin Reeves, or Slao,
or someone on this list can tell me what in the world I'm doing wrong, as
I'm totally at a loss.

I bought the bundled Protools MP9 from Sweetwater. It came with the USB
Ilok, which by the way, ignore my last message on how to open the ILok, I
feel totally stupid! It helps if you pull the right end of the stick. I
was pulling on the end with the little hole in it! God I feel like an
idiot! No wonder! Anyway, so, it came with the M-Audio Fast Track C400
interface.

OK, someone explain this to me. I got it in a box, not the downloadable
electronic registrration version.

Remember this is PT MP9 version 9.0. Not 9.05, and definitely not V10.

I was told though I could install this under Lion, it wouldn't run until I
installed V9.05, which was a free update.

So, a guy used Team Meeting from Sweetwater, and he helped me download the
9.05 update.

Well, it's important to note. I first tried installing from my included DVD
that was in the box with 9.0. The first attempt failed and said there were
errors though it wouldn't tell me what they were.

I installed this after installing the M Audio drivers that came in the box
on DVD.

Once I re-ran the installer for PT MP9, the next time, it went through fine.
I then plugged in my ILok, as I was told the license should have been
already on it, since my bundle came with an ILok already included. It did
no good. I figured the update failed as maybe I needed to run PT at least
once That wasn't the case the upgrade either keeps failing saying it
incountered errors, or saying no valid ProTools installation found.

I don't even know if my license is correctly on my ILok. I think it is, and
the guy from Sweetwater logged into my account and said it looked to him
like it was indeed on my ILok. I dono how he saw that being he wasn't
remoted into my system at that time, and obviously, didn't have my ILok
plugged into his system.

Don't tell me I can't install 9.0 to Lion then upgrade it to 9.05. Don't
tell me I am gonna have to downgrade to Snow Leo just to get the thing to
install, then upgrade it, then upgrade back to Lion!

I'm gonna be irately livid! if I have to do that! I'm already about to blow
a gaskit over here. I've been working at this just getting the stupid thing
installed literally non stop except for lunch since 10 this morning! That's
no joke!

Nick,

Your 003 has 8 analog and 8 digital inputs and outputs. You have a choice of
mic or line input for the first four I/Os but can't use both for a single I/O
channel. On board, you can use either mic or line inputs for the first 4
channels and line inputs for the second 4 channels. The digital channels are
accessed through ADAT LightPipe so you'd need an external A/D converter for
that.

I'm not sure why you're getting a clock error. If you just bought your 003, you're
entitled to technical support from Avid so you may want to take advantage of that. It
could be any one of several things. I also urge you to read the manuals closely,
especially the "getting Started" guides for setup instructions and follow them
carefully.

The 003 does not determine sample rate. sample rate is set when you create a session and,

Anything routed to your main stereo pair will also show up on your headphone

The Mic inputs are obviously the 4 XLR jacks and the line inputs are beneath

Your 003 has 8 analog and 8 digital inputs and outputs. You have a choice of

accessed through ADAT LightPipe so you'd need an external A/D converter for
that.

I'm not sure why you're getting a clock error. If you just bought your 003, you're
entitled to technical support from Avid so you may want to take advantage of that. It
could be any one of several things. I also urge you to read the manuals closely,
especially the "getting Started" guides for setup instructions and follow them
carefully.

Keep us posted on your progress,

The 003 does not determine sample rate. sample rate is set when you create a session and,
therefore, cannot be changed on the fly. You'd have to use the "Save Copy In?"
command to save the session in a different sample rate.

Anything routed to your main stereo pair will also show up on your headphone
jacks which are located at the front right bottom of the unit closest to you.
The Mic inputs are obviously the 4 XLR jacks and the line inputs are beneath
them and are quarter-inch jacks. You set the input selection on the 003 by
pushing the Mic/Line button below the gain knobs.

Hi Steve,
Here is what Slau said to me a while ago, it was at Snow Leopard time, but I
guess it still works for Lion doesn't it?

Open the file in Preview. Make sure the view is continuous and single page.
Select the text Tool with Command-2.
Select all with Command-a and Copy all with Command-c.
Open Text Edit and paste. You'll be able to read through this text document
easily.

HTH,

Tell us if it works.

I have the PT 10 manual converted to RTF if anyone wants it drop me an email
off list requesting it as its too large of an attachment to send to the list. I
should be able to convert the PT 9 manual as well if there is enough demand.
That being said I used Kurzweil to do the conversion of the manual since i have
it installed on my work laptop. Does anyone know of a utility for doing the
same on the mac, that is free or inexpensive, and accessible? Yeah i am aware
there is DocuScanPlus and i do plan on picking it up at some point, but there
is gotta be away to get that functionality without spending $300 upfront.

Hey JP,

The quirky thing about Preview is that, if you switch applications and come
back to it, you'll be thrown back up to the top of the page. For this reason,
perhaps it's better to export a text file and read in that manner. That said,
I've always been a proponent of reading through the manual at least twice: once
from beginning to end without stopping and the second time with Pro Tools in
front of you while stopping to try some of the things that are being described.

Open the pdf in Preview, set the View option to "Single Page Continuous,"
select the Text Tool from the Tools menu, select all text and copy it to any
text editor.
