RE: VoiceOver Accessible soundcard for ProTolls and Logic

2016-10-10 Thread Phil Muir
Focusrite sound card software is accessible on Windows and I believe things
like sample rate can be changed in Pro Tools on the Mac side. Further more
you can definitely load snapshots on both the Mac and Windows side so once
those are set-up with various options then you are good to go.

Hi all
It's a pitty about the Focusrite software as Focusrite has been my go
to brand interfaces since I can remember, I just love the quality of
their pre amps, and I have been looking forward to getting one of
their Red interfaces in the next couple of months.

I'm the type of guy who won't buy something if I'm not certain that
it's fully or close to fully accessible, or the important bits anyway.
I don't want to struggle with ifs and maybes, trying to figure out how
to get around accessibility issues etc.

It would have helped a lot if the ability was there to download and
check out the full software without having a interface connected, but
unfortunately most of the software only shows its true colours if the
interface is connected.

I use the roland quadcapture and the panel is very accessible.
One of the controls that is a nice thing, is the gain setting of each preamp.
So you can select exactely the input volume of the soundcard, moving de knov
and reading that parameter in the control panel.
Hope this helps.

Hi Samuel,

No, I haven’t had any experience with any Roland interfaces. As with many
interfaces, they can generally work fine with a “set it and forget it” kind of
situation but, if you need to change parameters in some cases, it’s not
accessible. If Roland has a software control panel, chances are it’s not
accessible. I’d be quite surprised if it was. There is some potential if an
interface has an iOS version of their control panel but I can’t think of any
that do.

Hi Jørgen,
Depending upon what kind of I/O scenario you’re looking for, Apogee
just released three new interfaces yesterday that are more affordable
than their previous offerings. They are the Element series interfaces
and are all Thunderbolt compatible. Thus far, all Apogee interfaces
have used an application called Maestro to access the interface
settings. The software is almost entirely accessible and it’s also
possible to set a number of parameters from the units themselves.
Unless these new interfaces have somehow deviated from Apogee’s path
all these years, they should be quite useable. As always, the only
true test is getting one and trying it. Hope that helps a bit,

Slau

Should that be a solution?

Hi Jack,

I can’t answer that yet but, suffice it to say, we’re in the process of
procuring both of those interfaces to make an assessment on the accessibility.
The software for the MTRX appears, at the outset, to look promising but I’ll
have to have an interface in order to see whether all of the controls are
visible. I have no idea about the Element software yet but will report here as
soon as I know anything.

Best,

Slau

Hi Jørgen,

Depending upon what kind of I/O scenario you’re looking for, Apogee just
released three new interfaces yesterday that are more affordable than their
previous offerings. They are the Element series interfaces and are all
Thunderbolt compatible. Thus far, all Apogee interfaces have used an
application called Maestro to access the interface settings. The software is
almost entirely accessible and it’s also possible to set a number of parameters
from the units themselves. Unless these new interfaces have somehow deviated
from Apogee’s path all these years, they should be quite useable. As always,
the only true test is getting one and trying it. Hope that helps a bit,

Slau

RE: VoiceOver Accessible soundcard for ProTolls and Logic

2016-09-29 Thread Phil Muir
You should be able to launch those Focusrite presets without any sighted
assistance as you can load presets from the file menu using (command O).
The only issue you may have is changing the clock source or resetting the
sample rate as those settings are not stored in the preset files. Some of
us did ask focusrite a while back about changing this behaviour so that
sample rate and clock source would be stored in preset files but Focusrite
are not keen to do this.

Regarding the new Apogee stuff I haven't been hands on with them yet but it
appears they are using the Element control panel and not maestro. Also it
appears control is all via software now either via the element control

Re: VoiceOver Accessible soundcard for ProTolls and Logic

2016-09-28 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi Jørgen,
Depending upon what kind of I/O scenario you’re looking for, Apogee just
released three new interfaces yesterday that are more affordable than their
previous offerings.
Hope that helps a bit,
Slau
