[Qgis-user] QGIS on Citrix

2018-09-28 Thread Phil Wyatt
Hi Folks,

I am wondering if anyone has some good documentation on installing QGIS3 in
a citrix environment. When 3.4 becomes the Long Term Release I will be
working with an organisation to get them setup. I am particularly interested
on how to setup for shared plugins and stores for WMS, WFS etc.

Any documentation appreciated

Cheers - Phil

Metres squared/10,000 equals hectares. You can calculate this via an expression
and add it as a new attribute

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS Live GPS Tracking Settings (QGIS 2.14)

2018-10-24 Thread Phil Wyatt
Hi Malhar,

No, I don’t believe there are any ways to edit the GPS information as per your
requests. If these features are a high priority for you then maybe consider
supporting a developer to make some changes to the base code to allow changes
to the GPS and the trail. I suspect Lat/Lon is the standard for most GPS’s but
again a developer may be able to set options for other NMEA sentences.

Hello all,

I am currently using the QGIS (2.14) live GPS tracker for a project. I have a
few questions regarding the settings for the live tracking feature.

1) Is there a way to change the latitude and longitude units from decimal
degrees to degrees and decimal minutes in the "GPS Information Panel?"

2) Is there a way to change the symbol of a cross within a circle to an
airplane?

3) Is there a way to change the trail of the aircraft so it only shows the
previous 10 minutes of flight, yet have the log file show the entire flight
route?

Thank you very much for your help.

Sincerely,

Malhar

Hi Mayank,

What sort of information were you hoping to gain from Google? The underlying
imagery that can be used to digitise features into Open Street Map is often as
up to date as Google. Maybe you could contact local OSM or Humanitarian teams
and support adding further information to Open Street Map.

If you want to look at Google imagery in QGIS then you can do so from the Quick
Map Services plugin.

Thank you for replying.

I was working on a detailed map development of a certain state (Andhra Pradesh)

in India. This would be useful in disaster management and would be accessible
by all.

Openstreetmap does not provide detailed features of the place that is why
wanted to check if someone has found a way to use google information.

Any leads in this regards are appreciated

Hello

In layer option label tab there is a button in the upper right corner (see

It opens automated label positioning options menu.

https://docs.qgis.org/testing/en/docs/user_manual/working_with_vector/vector_properties.html#setting-the-automated-placement-engine

I have two questions about it:
  1. Where can I find description of used methods: Chain, Popmusic Tabu/Chain,
FALP
  2. Is there a reason why this dialog is so hidden? I was asked about option
to show partial labels (on by default) a number of times when people simply

This sounds like a known issue since ages (v 2.6?), where at QGIS
startup the Processing plugin parses all the hundreds of description
files for the SAGA/GRASS algorithms. You can verify by disabling the
Processing plugin and relaunching.

Subject: [Qgis-user] QGIS 3.4.3 becoming unusable for me on Windows 10

Ever since release 3.4.1 QGIS has been a disaster for me, running on Windows
10.
After I upgraded to 3.4.2 I still had problems with everything running very
slowly. (See my post below -
QGIS 3.4.2 still very slow to work in Windows 10 by David Addy)

Now on 3.4.3 the same issues seem to be continuing, with the odd crash added
in for good measure.
Opening QGIS on Windows 10 always takes over half a minute before anything
happens apart from the outline box of the QGIS window full of blank space.
Once a project finally loads up any random operation gets the "QGIS not
responding" message.
I can scan a map without any problem, moving it around works fine, as does
zooming in and out. But if I want to amend the contents of the attribute
table or change a style in the Layer Properties I get “QGIS is not
responding”. After a long delay it may respond correctly.
This can result in further issues because I may try pressing buttons to get
a response. After long frustration it might decide to crash.
I use the stand -alone version of 64 bit Windows package, which loads with
QT 5.11.2.
I run a 16 gb computer with Intel i7 processor. It seems to make no
difference whether I have my Kaspersky Security Suite turned on or off.
Frustratingly, some other users apparently experience no problems with
Windows on QGIS.
Ubuntu users are ecstatic – they work lovely.
If you are on Windows 10 and are still having these sort of issues on QGIS
3.4.3 it would be very helpful if you could add a note to this thread so we
can gauge the numbers involved. Useful also if you can note whether you use
the standalone package, 64 or 32 bit, and the QT package installed.
Thanks very much.

Sorry to complain, but I just cannot bear to run any work at the moment.

Hi Hugo,

The current procedure is about that easy (in map composer) – if you only want a
north arrow on the map window then try View, Decorations, North Arrow (plus any
of the other decorations). If you are after just simple maps then this is the
easy way and you can then export the map window as an image or PDF

Some empirical remarks, from observing users
that understand cartography, but not technical
UI design decisions:

Out of the ~200 people that I have trained on
QGIS, ~100% did have trouble finding a way
to insert a north arrow into a map layout.
About ~75% of them clicked on "Add Arrow",
and some of those were quite satisfied with
the result; so in the future, expect to see many
maps created with QGIS that have ordinary arrows
adorning them, which more or less point
northwards!

There are various reasons why the current
method does not work in practice:

- people do not think of a north arrow
as an ordinary picture; they think of it
(and rightly so) as a cartographic element
with the same rank as a scale bar; after
all, like a scale bar, it has a dynamic
property (its orientation)

- some think of a "north arrow" as an
"arrow" (which leads to: see above)

- "ordinary images" are inserted into a
layout by using the "Add Picture" function;
that leaves people wondering where to find
north arrow pictures, and they wander of
to Google to find some...

So the complete mental chain here is:

north arrow -> picture -> built-in picture

... and that just leaves people totally
stranded (never mind the fact that the UI
element for browsing shipped images is
collapsed by default, so people will just
scroll past it; and that there is a lag
of sometimes several seconds between clicking
on the tiny triangle and getting to see
actual images; so people will scroll past
it again; and that "Search Directories" is
a UI label that most people don't associate
with anything useful...).

In my view, this is a part of the UI that is
conceptually broken in about half a dozen places,
and there should be a dedicated north arrow
tool "Add North Arrow", exactly where it should
be, i.e. right next to "Add Scalebar".

Best,

Benjamin

 Good day

I was wondering if there is a more efficient method for adding a
north arrow to a map layout in QGIS than adding an image?

Something as simple as just clicking somewhere add -> north arrow,
and then being able to choose various styles.

 Is something like this available?

 Thanks

Check the CRS and set it to the raster data and see how you go. I think V3 does
on the fly projections all the time. In 2.18 you need to set that under
settings, options, CRS.

Hi,

I am using Finnish open data by Finnish Transport Network and National Land
Survey of Finland. Do you want me to send you a map(png-format) witch is
raster layer? I installed Qgis 3.45 to my laptop and vector layers are seen
by Finnish Transport Network and Google Maps exported kmz-file, but when I
add map layer, it does not show map. but everything else. The order of
layers are OK- When I do the same with my main pc, it does not show any

Hi,

This is 99 % a bad CRS problem or a layer that has the right CRS but is
badly georeferenced. Open a background layer with a WMS or from a satellite
image from a plugin like OpenLayer. This layer should be in the right
place. Then open each layer and click zoom to layer extent (right click on
the layer in the layer panel). You will find the layer that is not
correctly georeferenced or that has an incorrect CRS.

Phil is correct when saying that in 3x, on the fly default. You may want to
select « ask what to do » if a CRS is not specified in the layer. Your
choice my be « use the project or use the default CRS ». That may throw
things off.

Re: [Qgis-user] problem with older version

2019-05-27 Thread Phil Wyatt
Hi Boaz,

When the layers didn’t appear when opening in the old version of QGIS, did you
get any error message? Generally if a layer in a project cannot be found you
get the opportunity to find it and reinstate it in the projects (handle bad
layers).

Maybe in the newer version of QGIS you have ‘relative file paths’ set versus
‘full file path’ – This is under PROJECT settings – Project, Settings, General
tab, Save Paths

There are now a multitude of reasons why you may not be able to fully open a
3.4 project in 2.18, especially when it comes to how layers are styled.

Hey lists

This was first discussed back in 2016 (see
http://osgeo-org.1560.x6.nabble.com/Removal-of-labeling-search-methods-td5262743.html),
but would anyone object if the different labeling solution algorithms
eg "chain" / "pop music" / "falp" / etc were dropped, and we just
leave the existing default (chain)?

I don't think ANYONE knows what these mean, and it's a heck of a lot
of code (which needs fixes) to cart around for no compelling reason
that I can see.

I have no particular preference to any of the methods, so would
happily accept a different default if anyone out there can point to
which method is best!

Googling pop music / tabu / chain only gives a handful of results
relating to QGIS labeling engine. And googling for "falp" sounds like
something that would get you flagged on your company's firewall.

Does ANYONE understand or change this setting? Or would object to its
complete removal?

I would also suggest following the Input/Mergin projects that allow you to

There is also QFIELD for Android that does the same

Both of these approaches mean its very quick to use your field collected

My question, apologies for the lengthy intro, is what product others are

Re: [Qgis-user] How to resize or fit QGIS windows

2020-03-27 Thread Phil Wyatt
Hi Yann,

On Windows - If they double left click on the white bar at the top of the QGIS
window it should ‘fill the screen’ and they can see the bottom status bar.

Double click again and it will be a separate window that they can resize from
the corners, top, left or right hand borders (like any other application on
their computer)

Cheers - Phil

Hi Sabine,

I would also try making sure that your windows installation is up to date,
memory is all OK and also check drivers for your monitors. I had a similar
error (WHEA) that bugged me for ages and it was fixed with new monitor
drivers from the manufacturer (not the windows defaults!)

Subject: [Qgis-user] Plugin Processing crashes QGIS and computer

Hi all,

I have recently installed QGIS 3.10.4 LTR, as some of the new features would
be very useful to my work. Unfortunately, the Processing plugin which I use
quite a lot causes QGIS and my computer to crash nearly systematically.
After each fresh install - I uninstalled/installed QGIS a few times - and
the first crash, I get this message when I open QGIS again : < Plugin
processing : The plugin will be disabled because it crashed QGIS during last
startup. Please report an issue and re-enable the plugin when the problem
has been solved." When I try to activate the plugin by ticking the box in
the 'Manage and Install Plugins' menu, my computer crashes again.

I have tried to install other standalone versions of QGIS, ie, 3.12.0-2 and
3.8.3-1, and the version that comes with the osgeo4w installer, and they all
cause the same problem. Only when I revert to my old 3.4.7 version does the
plugin function without any problem.

I have also tried to use a new user profile, and even to delete the QGIS
folder in the user/appdata/roaming folder, but this didn't work.

I should add that the crashes are not totally systematic, as after one fresh
install, there was no crash when I opened QGIS without Grass functions for
the first time. However, the second time (QGIS with Grass functions), it
crashed again. The next times, it crashed be it with or without Grass
functions.

I am using Windows 10 Family edition and I have 2 monitors. When my computer
crashes, I get a blue screen with an error message that is not always the
same, but often it is a WHEA message. I have tried to unplug one of my
monitors before restarting the computer, but this did not solve the issue.

Of course, I can go on using QGIS 3.4.7, but it would be very helpful to
work with a more recent version, so I would very much appreciate your help
with this issue.

Thanks!

Best wishes,

Sabine

I have an odd problem with the 64-bit version of QGIS, version3.10.4-A
Coruña.

Once I load QGIS, its window occupies the entire screen, but it's more than
merely maximized. There is no task bar at the bottom, and there are no
Maximize/Minimize/Close buttons. I cannot grab the edges of the QGIS window
to shrink it, nor can I move it out of the way, because there's no title
bar. I can only access the desktop with the ALT-ESC key-combination. This
moves the QGIS window to the back of all other programs that are running,
but the QGIS window still cannot be maximized, minimized, or closed. The
only way to exit is with the [Project-Exit QGIS] menu command.

All other programs run normally, even those running simultaneously with
QGIS. This is annoying as hell, and I feel certain this is a simple setting
that needs to be changed, but so far it has evaded all my efforts to find
it.

A lot of styling depends on the attributes of the layer so you can really
only pass around QML files for common layers. I have some to match the

Hi Przemek

I am not a drone user but I have seen some of the flight planning software and
it will give you the AGL heights required for various image resolutions. There
are also online services for stitching up the hundreds of images from flights.
Check out something like the app Map Pilot from Maps Made Easy. That will give
you a great start.

Any of the images created Maps Made Easy can be used directly in QGIS.

Hello All,

Bad News. I am unable to load a project that normally works with no
problems:

1. QGIS 2.10.1, Windows 7.
2. Project starts to load, loads many layers . . .
3. halts loading "point Entity", a DXF file
4. the DXF file was renamed to trigger the Handle Bad Layers service
5. this was bypassed but project loading still fails to complete,
cursor spinner on constantly
6. exiting with Save triggers "Unknown Exception"
7. the project file is trashed to 0kb
8. Exiting without Save is OK but no project can be loaded
9. Restoring previous project file versions yields the same results
10. Loading some other projects works but may have cursor spinner

Any ideas what is going on here? I have rebooted the computer.

Thanks very much . . . .

When you say “loads many layers”…how many are we talking about – 20, 50, 250?
Shape files, WMS, Raster, Vector? Unknown Exception I suspect is hard to
diagnose, especially now on QGIS 2.10 and Windows 7 which are both pretty old.

hello Phil,

I did open the project file in Word, 2033 pages, and found 13 instances
referring to the dxf file. Hard to say if anything was wrong there, nothing
obvious. At least to me. Some other research I did indicates that maybe there
is an authentication problem, not sure just what that boils down to.

I don't think the dxf file is the problem. I renamed it and bypassed it on the
startup routine which the program accepted but it still seized up with a
spinning cursor. Some things still function, such as modifying the properties
of a layer , Etc. But the screen is blank and nothing can be saved.

For some time I have noticed that loading a project file bogs down for a while
and then would resume to completion. Now it bogs down and blows up. The key
message seems to be unknown exception.

Some older project files do load successfully however...

Hi,

I am looking for a way to create a map with an irregular (non-rectangle) frame.

There is blog post from Anita showing how to do it but it needs a white mask
all around the map. While I need it to be transparent.

I don't think this is possible yet without going the SVGs way, but maybe
someone have so cool trick to share.

Hi - I am a new user struggling to pick up the fundamentals - I have
successfully imported a LIDAR raster layer and hillshaded / pseudo
coloured / contoured it.

My problem is that I want an image of a topographical map behind it as
a base map to provide context.

The GIS I am familiar with had the facility to take an image eg TIFF,
JPG, PNG, georeference the four corners, and import it into a layer so
that it was matched to the vector map. This seems a simple and I should
have thought common requirement eg you want to put a TIFF of a historic
map behind the modern map you are creating.

I cannot see any way of doing it - am I being obtuse?

Any help appreciated

Hi Boaz,

Are you using Google earth via “Open Layers plugin”? If so, check and see if
the offset still exists with QuickMapServices Plugin (with the contributors

Some imagery is not well aligned but it varies across the globe. How are you

necessary).

Re: [Qgis-user] Repeated maps with different datasets

2018-08-30 Thread Phil Wyatt
Hi ameces

Question - Are all the CSV the same data but just in a different municipaility?

One approach may be to merge all the csv into one, then do steps two and three,
then create an 'atlas' output for each municipaility.

No special plugins required at all to do that

Subject: [Qgis-user] Repeated maps with different datasets

Hello,

I was wondering whether I could use some tool/plugin/additional software to
produce a big series of maps that are very similar to each other, except
that each one uses a different data set.

So in other words. I have a lot of different CSV-files that I input into
QGIS 2.18, and this is the process of me making a single map:
1) apply CSV-layer to QGIS, apply vector layer of the map of Finland and its
administrative borders (municipalities)
2) merge the CSV-data with the map vector layer, using municipality name as
the common value
3) create the classifications and visualize the data within the map
4) go into map layout mode and create a finished map with headlines, north
arrow, scale, legend etc.
5) and then do the same with a hundred different datasets

Is there a way to do this without going over every single step manually for
each map? I'm open to any solution, whether it was using QGIS, a different
version of QGIS, or even ArcGIS.

I have saved templates in the QGIS to save the map layout, but it doesn't
save a lot of time and it caused numerous crashes when I used it. For some
reason QGIS does not like when I save a map layout and then use it with
another map.

Blimey!

That’s a lot of maps - 100 CSV X 3 values X 300+ municipalities = over 90,000
maps!

Can you point us to any of the data files?

Its beyond my skillset but I would be looking to use Processing and scripts to
at least select a csv and then do all the joins and categorisation and place
the data in layout and produce a map output. That’s if I couldn’t combine the
CSV's in the first place to have a single record for each Municipality with the
300 values as columns.

Hi Phil!

I have a hundred different CSV files that have different numeric values for
the same municipalities. So for example I have one CSV that has values
1,2,3,4 on municipalities a, b, c and d.

Then another CSV that has 5,6,7,8 on the same municipalities a,b,c and d.

To be exact: all of my CSV's have only four columns. First is the name of
the municipality, then three columns of values that I want to make a map of
each one of them. So three maps from one CSV.

I hope I made some sense. :)

Hi,

Some days ago while browsing code, I got the feeling that there was also some
kind of option like "Remember last inserted value of this field, and use it as
'default' for the next new feature to create...".
But I cannot find it in the gui (and no time to search for it in the code).

Does anybody is aware of such function?
Not sure if it is usefull for the original question though... It would not work
over different layers...

Re: [Qgis-user] Print Legend as Features of a Layer

2020-11-29 Thread Phil Wyatt
Hi Walt.

Sounds like your layer uses a ‘single symbol’ for the layer styling. Try
changing it to use Categorized and then use an expression like

"NAME" || ' - '  || "Area(ha)"  || ' ha'

Where

* NAME is the name field in your layer
* Area(ha) is a field in your layer

This will then produce something with a label like

CS001 - 1.826 ha

Then add a legend for the layer in composer and it should show up like the
following

The alternative is to add the attribute table rather than a legend

I've got a Polygon layer whose features are a series of contiguous LandPlots,
and i want to print a map of same with a Legend that lists each LandPlot by
name, along with its calculated area.

My problem is: the Layout Composer in QGIS 3.14 seems to presume that one wants
a list of Layers for the Legend -and, tho i can filter that list down to just
the single "LandPlots" Layer that i want, i cannot get it to list the features
within that Layer.

Have read the docs on this feature

, which doesn't tell me how to solve this problem, unless i'm missing
something -perhaps implicit in this "filter by expression" feature, which calls
for more code-savvy than i've got on the ball right now <:-(

Am at an impasse, so any suggestion at this point would be most appreciated!

This linked

supplied by the USFS.
If you focus on this area

There is some problematic geometry. If I do a dissolve I get this:

If I remove the holes, I'm left with this bit of stray boundary:

I then remove that with edit nodes. But the resulting polygon is still not
clean - if I try to use the field calculator to add the area (using $area), I
get null.
There is bad geometry that I'm not spotting, but how do I find it?

The second linked

Hi to all,

I must draw four different concentric circles (with different sizes and same
center) in many different positions: about these positions I know the center of
the circles (shape file of points).

I created a shapefile of polygons for these circles but I would like to find a
method to copy the 4 concentric circles and paste the same 4 circles in
different positions (of which I know the center).

Do you know any method? for example a kind of snap to the point.

If I do it manually it is almost impossible to put the circles exactly in those
centers.

Thanks Azzurra

no magic anwser here again. But when I face this kind of need, I switch

Of course, the more candidates, the more CPU work, but the more chances

Re: [Qgis-user] Building Historical Maps

2021-07-22 Thread Phil Wyatt
Hi James,

By the sounds of the project I suspect you will get very good at snapping,
tracing, merging and digitising from old maps. There are good tutorials on
georeferencing old maps and digitising from them. Your other option will be to
search out other projects that may have already done some of this work for you
but honestly, pre the 1990's you will likely struggle to find ORIGINAL digital
files unless you can get contacts within the agency that was responsible for
the original digitisation, and they have good archives. Depending on what maps
you find it may be possible to do some raster to vector conversion.

Buckle in for a slow, long haul project!

Subject: [Qgis-user] Building Historical Maps

I am running a project to present historical information about Ontario, Canada.
To support this I have imported GIS information on administrative boundaries
from the Ontario Government. The only problem is this information only
describes the current administrative organization of the province, not the
organization it had for most of its history up until the early 1990s when the
system was "rationalized". I am looking for suggestions of how to extract as
much information from the current GIS data as possible.

For example: From 1850 to the early 1990s most of Ontario was administered as
counties with lower level townships. In the 1990s the more urbanized portions
of the province were reorganized as "Regional Municipalities" which largely
ignored the old county boundaries either by including only the urban portion of
a former county, or by incorporating urban portions of multiple counties. So,
for example, if I wish to reconstruct the boundaries of the former county of
Welland I have to concatenate the boundaries of the individual townships that
made up the former county, and then remove all of the internal, and redundant,
boundaries. I have manually done that for one county but it was a pain in part
because the polygons of the individual townships did not begin at a "corner"
shared with an adjacent township within the county. Just finding exactly where
the polygon began and which direction it went took time.

The second issue is that boundaries changed multiple times over the period
between 1763 when Britain assumed control of the area of Ontario, and the
present. In particular city boundaries change as areas are transferred from
the surrounding rural municipalities to the city as a result of urban growth.
Where do I get the old boundary information aside from tracing them from old
maps?

aggregate( layer:='line_layer', aggregate:= 'sum', expression:='length',
filter:='measure=1')

which returns NULL

In the line layer there is an attribute 'length' that already holds the length
of the element.

I only want the lines that have the attribute "measure=1".

Any help appreciated!

Regards,

Roland

Re: [Qgis-user] Training manual import of .qml files

Hi Walt,

Head to Layer Properties and down the bottom there is a 'style' button.
Click on that and choose Load Style, then click on the three dots ... to
select the required style file (qml)

Subject: [Qgis-user] Training manual import of .qml files

Hi, I'm a clueless newbie trying to work through the training manual.
2.4.10 point 2. says "Load the style file advanced_levels_demo.qml provided
in exercise_data/styles". This seems to imply using the style manager, but
the browser only opens XML files. To further cloud the issue, Appendix C
says "2.8.3.3 ... QML is an XML format for storing layer styling." but the
style manager file browser doesn't believe it.

It seems like a bug in the documentation to omit how to do this, and I've
filed an issue on the documentation. In the meantime, can anyone give me a
clue?

Thanks -- Walt

Re: [Qgis-user] Font size

2021-12-07 Thread Phil Wyatt
Hi Sylvia,

Try under settings, Options, General, Application, Fonts and up the font
size as desired. Then shut down and restart QGIS. You can also increase the
size of all the icons as well if required.

NOTE – I gather this may not affect font sizes in every part of QGIS but
does in most areas.

Hey Phil,

Unfortunately, this is a corporate owned dataset from accuweather. I followed
the steps similar to this guide: How to: Add an ArcGIS Server Feature Service
(Esri Token Authentication) in QGIS – Help Centre (data.wa.gov.au)
<https://toolkit.data.wa.gov.au/hc/en-gb/articles/360001044975-How-to-Add-an-ArcGIS-Server-Feature-Service-Esri-Token-Authentication-in-QGIS#:~:text=Under%20Data%20and%20Resources%2C%20select%20ArcGIS%20Server%20Feature,ArcGIS%20FeatureServer%20Layer%2C%20and%20then%20select%20New%20.>
but no luck. When reaching out to accuweather they didn’t really give me any
good feedback.

Thanks,

I don't suppose it's available as a layer already? There seems to be quite a
few resources here

Re: [Qgis-user] Atlas Map book - Display only one feature on each page.

2022-03-07 Thread Phil Wyatt via Qgis-user
Hi there,

Your settings look correct to create an atlas BUT if the three lines are
actually close together then they may still appear in each atlas page,
depending on your map settings. You could try to reduce the margin around the
feature.

Another alternative, if the features are close together, is to maybe style the
atlas feature in a different way so that its highlighted differently to the
other line features.

Cheers - Phil

Hello,

I am reposting this question. Can anyone help me?This is the map on my Print
composer window. In my attribute table, I have a field called Line_ID. There
are three lines in this field; LINE 1, LINE 2 AND LINE 3..I wish to export this
to mapbook. My mapbook will have 3 pages. I wish to export such that, each page
has only one line. i.e. Page1 should have LINE 1, Page2 should have LINE 2 AND
Page3 should have LINE 3. What should be the setting in my Atlas window to
accomplish this task?

Re: [Qgis-user] adding a layer from a zipped file

2022-05-28 Thread Phil Wyatt via Qgis-user
Hi Stephen,

You might let us know your operating system and which version of QGIS you are
using because it works as you desire in the latest development (3.24.3) and
Long Term Release versions (3.22.7). It may just be a matter of updating QGIS.

Cheers - Phil

Subject: [Qgis-user] adding a layer from a zipped file

When I write a layer as a shape file, it appears on my C: drive as six files,
all with the same name but different extensions. Then I zip those six into a
single file (xxx.zip). When I reload that layer from the zip file (Layer >
AddLayer > VectorLayer > File > Dataset > xxx.zip), QGIS is almost smart enough
to restore the layer correctly. The polygon features are in the right place
and their attribute table is correct. My problem is that it ignores one of
the six files, the "style" file (xxx .qml) which specifies color, labeling,
and symbol). Do I have to unzip before restoring layer xxx ? I know I could
open the layer's properties and use Style > Load Style from file xxx.qml .
But when I'm restoring several layers that's a lot of key strokes (and may
require that I unzip). It seems to me that this shouldn't be necessary. [I
encounter the same problem with point layers and polygon layers.]

Hi

Is anybody else having issues when using a mouse scroll wheel for zooming in
a layout window that QGIS continually crashes? This has only started
happening since upgrading to 3.26

Cheers

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS Atlas Print dpi street names

2022-08-15 Thread Phil Wyatt via Qgis-user
Hi Lars,

If the background is a raster map (like OpenStreetMap) then no, you cant
control the labelling. You would need to add a vector layer for the roads and
then style the labels from that new layer.

Hello,

Thank you so much for your help!!!

I would like to print polygon objects using the atlas print function with 300
dpi instead of 75 dpi. But as I realized, the street names look too small now.
Is there a way to adjust the font size of the street names in the atlas print
preview?

Thank you!

Hi Roland

Head to C:\Program Files\QGIS 3.28.1\bin\qgis-bin.exe - that will start up

Also check your desktop for a folder QGIS 3.28.1 that has links to all the
common programs

Subject: [Qgis-user] Can't Open QGIS

Hi,

I've been using QGIS for years, and installed periodic updates during that
time. However, in the last month I've tried downloading newer versions of
QGIS (initially 3.28, more recently 3.22) and although they seem to
download, and Control Panel (Uninstall a programme) shows that they are
downloaded, the app doesn't come up in my list of Apps. So, I don't know how
to open the downloaded version. What do I click on to get it started?

I'm using latest version Windows 10, on a 64-bit Dell machine.

Help!! Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks, Roland (Scotland)

GOOD AFTERNOON,

QGIS DESKTOP USERS, ANYONE WHO CAN HELP ME.

I WAS USING QGIS VERSION 3.10, AND WHEN I USED THE "SELECT FEATURES BY
VALUE" OPTION (SHORTCUT F3), AND WHEN I STARTED TYPING WHAT I NEEDED, THE
SOFTWARE SHOWED THE EXISTING OPTIONS IN THE DATABASE.

BUT NOW I AM USING VERSION 3.22, AND WHEN USING "SELECT FEATURES BY VALUE"
(SHORTCUT F3), THE SOFTWARE DOES NOT SHOW FEATURES WITH NAMES THAT EXIST IN
THE DATABASE.

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO CONFIGURE THIS "SELECTION SUGGESTION" THAT HAS IN
VERSION 3.10?

BOA TARDE,

USUÁRIOS DO QGIS DESKTOP, ALGUÉM QUE POSSA ME AJUDAR.

EU UTILIZAVA A VERSÃO DO QGIS VERSÃO 3.10, E QUANDO EU USAVA A OPÇÃO
"SELECIONAR FEIÇÕES POR VALOR" (ATALHO F3), E AO COMEÇAR DIGITAR O QUE EU
PRECISAVA, O SOFTWARE MOSTRAVA AS OPÇÕES EXISTENTE NO BANCO DE DADOS.

POREM AGORA EU ESTOU UTILIZANDO A VERSÃO 3.22, E AO USAR "SELECIONAR FEIÇÕES
POR VALOR" (ATALHO F3), O SOFTWARE NÃO MOSTRA AS FEIÇÕES COM NOMES
EXISTENTE NO BANCO DE DADOS.

ALGUÉM SABE COMO CONFIGURAR ESSA"SUGESTÃO DE SELEÇÃO" QUE TEM NA VERSÃO
3.10?
