Re: [Qgis-user] [Qgis-developer] Python Geprocessing Plugin
Horst, I tried on OS X. Here are my observations and issues so far: 1) The installer does not work. I get a permissions error when trying to use the python installer. Manual installation works ok. 2) When I run the plugin in a project with available vectors, the drop- down menu for selecting a vector to geoprocess does not populate with anything. So I am unable to perform any geoprocessing because there are not vectors available to work on in the gui. Because of problem 2), I am unable to get very far in testing this. I will be around on the irc channel today and off-and-on this week if you want to try and work out some things online. If you have access to the source drawing of your building you should be able to export a dxf from your architectural drawing application and then use the GRASS command v.in.dxf. If you only have the pdf version then all is not lost, but you will need the help of some additional software to convert from pdf to dxf. Please see the following, if required: http://www.pstoedit.net/ Concerning scales, QGIS works with the data internally using a 1:1 scale. You would need to ensure that your dxf is also 1:1 before importing it and obviously pay attention to the coordinate systems. [Qgis-user] QGIS 0.9.2rc1 String Freeze - Call for translators
Hi All (and especially translators) As of today please note that we are entering string freeze for the run up to the next release. If you are committing bug fixes please avoid changing any strings. Translation .ts files have been updated in SVN so please update your local svn checkouts. The period for translations will close January 27 2008 (i.e. about one week from now) and then we will be branching for release. Any translations submitted to us after that time will only be included in the next release, so please submit what you have by then even if it is not complete. There was some discussion on the IRC channel today about the naming of this release. I would like to proceed with the release as planned but there are a great deal of new features incorporated from branches in this release which inevitably means new bugs. So not wanting to deviate from our release schedule, but at the same time wanting to indicate the fact that there are a number of unresolved issues, we will be going about the normal release process, but releasing as QGIS 0.9.2rc1 (rc signifying release candidate). It is our hope that by building packages and making a rc release we can give early adopters ready to use binaries to commence more detailed testing and bug reporting. We will follow up 0.9.2rc1 with a bug triage release focusing on stabilising new features and improving render performance. As always you can track the release plans via the checklist at: http://wiki.qgis.org/qgiswiki/ReleaseChecklist0.9.2 (I will update this page to indicate the rc1 status soon) If you have any questions about the translation process, please see the following page which I have recently updated with instructions on how to generate a .ts file for a new locale. http://wiki.qgis.org/qgiswiki/TranslatorsCorner Many thanks to all the translators out there for the great work you do! Hi Paolo, The main idea of the development in branches is that qgis main branch (trunk) is always in a (relatively) stable state. So it is best to test the branches before the merge. I encountered similar symptoms but was able to get version .91 up and running on my MacBook Pro (with Leopard). I downloaded and updated Python from http://www.python.org/ftp/python/2.5.1/python-2.5.1-macosx.dmg After doing so, I ran into the same problem again. Combing through the read me for answers, I found I had not installed the needed frameworks so I found a DMG with the Unix compatibility frameworks on my other computer. Still, it did not work so I began manually updating frameworks based from clues in Console. After downloading and installing two or three frameworks from http://www.kyngchaos.com/wiki/software:frameworks , I was able to get it up and running. Now the only problem I have relates to getting postgis layers working. Re: [Qgis-user] [Qgis-developer] WMS Rendering Problems
Hi We will be making test packages for the transparency branch (which will contain everything from trunk merged in too). We will put these out for public comment and bug testing. Once we are happy that the raster transparency branch is stable, works as expected and does not cause any other problems, we will begin the process of getting it merged into trunk. We will announce to the list when these packages are available and open a special tag in trh bug tracker that bugs can be filed against. [Qgis-user] QGIS an American product ?
Hi All, I just read from a local bulletin that QGIS was mostly developed by American developers. Looking at the list of developers and contributing developers for QGIS and also the list of commercial support entities, I don't quite see a domination of Americans. I'm not trying to spur a flamewar here. I'm just a bit surprised a project like QGIS is being tagged as American when it mostly appears to be an international project, like all large successful FOSS projects, but maybe it *is* and American-led project? Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS an American product ?
Where did you read this (URL?)?? QGIS has never been promoted as an American product. It was founded in the US but if you look at the commits to the source repository, there are more international developers than US. Its success is the result of global effort by developers, contributors, and supporters. I believe this is just an unfortunate characterization by someone who may not have all the facts. -gary On Oct 31, 2007, at 5:00 AM, Yves Moisan wrote: Hi All, I just read from a local bulletin that QGIS was mostly developed by American developers. Hi Steffen Thanks for the great work on your plugin. I am having difficulty registering the plugin in QGIS and I think it may be because you appear to have hard coded the paths. 'c:/Programme/Quantum GIS' appears several times in your code, but your README has instructions based on 'c:\Program Files\Quantum GIS'. I'm out of luck since my path doesn't match either of these. The fix I made is to remove the synchronous network request inside the draw event with async requests which must be completed before starting to draw. This also speeds things up for multiple WMS layers since all layers are requested in parallel rather than serially. Hi All Some of you may have noticed that I tagged 0.9.0 two nights ago. I have not yet made any announcements regarding 0.9.0 release. Because of the number of bug reports coming in and since there seem to be so many issues with the code base as it stands, I would like to suggest retagging 0.9 as 0.9preview2 and delay the release for another 2 weeks to allow for more bug fixing. Could I ask everyone who has pending stability patches to please apply them and motivate those who may have been itching to do some bug fixing to give it a go! We really need everyones help if we are to produce a stable product! We would also like to remind you that we have a small amount of funds donated by our user community available to support bug fixing, so if you are a student or otherwise looking to make a bit of spare cash, this is a great opportunity to support the QGIS project and at the same time get a little less poor! What are the qgis- python- qt- related environment variables you have? And exactly what PATH-constructs do you use? From the thread about the QgsApplication.setPrefixPath() there are some incompatible lib/version issues? I hope this can be worked out/documented later. I will try a clean install later, or I've got a debian work station too, maby I've to switch to that and use stuff from: http://debian.gfoss.it Another option is building stuff myself, like you propose, do you think that's doable for a lightweight script person :-) Thanks, Richard Duivenvoorde Richard Duivenvoorde wrote: It seems to me that there is no QApplication constructed/available yet? [Qgis-user] qgis python plugins / bindings on windows
Hi List, after reading the python plugin wiki pages I became excited and wanted to try to build my first python plugin (using the 0.9.0 preview binary on windows). And failed because of some complexities (for me :-( ) I downloaded SIP and PyQt4.3, but failed to install them because I don't have '(c)make' installed etc etc. Because SIP and PyQT are not fully installed (python configure ok, but make not possible...), Qgis gives a warning about not being able to use the python bindings. My questions (hopefully this will be a quickstart the for all c-noobs like me): - will you need a c-build environment (including make) to make python plugins? Now or after the 'real' 0.9 release? - or is (will be) there another way to start hacking python plugins (eg. some huge qgis install including sip, python and pyqt or so??). - if c-make etc is needed, what is the easiest way to start on windows: mingw, eclipse, visual studio, cygwin? - how 'portable' will a python plugin be? If I develop a plugin on my debian box, can this plugin be used on 'vanilla qgis install' on windows also then (given the user installed python)? I fear that I underestemated the python story, but will try anyway. There are so much nice free arcview3 scripts available to 'port' to qgis, and python seems a ideal language for this. Going again through discussions on several mailing lists (debian, cmake, kde), I still don't know how to do this right. Some say that using rpath is great because it forces to use harcoded runtime paths, other say it's evil because of that. Bad thing is that rpath overrides LD_LIBRARY_PATH setting, which might be confusing. Also it adds some pain to distributors (IMHO). But it makes life easier for users which compile the software by themselves and don't use packaged versions. So, what to do? I would say that the best choice is to forget rpath completely and let users set LD_LIBRARY_PATH manually. But if you insist to use rpath, then the best way is the one you propose: make it configureable and turn it on by default. Hi All Today I've tagged 0.9.0 Preview 1 as per our release plan at http://wiki.qgis.org/qgiswiki/ReleaseChecklist0.9 You can check out a copy doing: svn co https://svn.qgis.org/repos/qgis/tags/Preview-0.9.0-1 qgis0.9.0Preview1 This should bring into effect the following things: - string freeze for UI - if you are a developer please dont change any more UI elements or translatable strings - call for translators to update ts files - call for document managers to update docs based on new features in SVN - call for packagers to create preview binaries A source bundle for preview 1 will be made available soon. Now is the time we call on your help to produce translations, update documentation etc. You dont need to be a programmer to be of assistance - all you need to do is be willing to donate some time and have a computer. Note that automake and qmake build systems are completely removed and using cmake is the only way to build QGIS 0.9.0 preview 1. Please see the INSTALL document in the source tree for detailed notes for your platform. http://wiki.qgis.org/qgiswiki/BuildingFromSource Also contains updated build notes for all platforms. [Qgis-user] QGIS-0.8.1 crash dealing with large PNG file
I am having problems with QGIS continually crashing when using a Large (135MB) geo-referenced PNG raster relief image. I have used this raster file in many other GIS apps, including ArcMap, ArcScene, UDIG, I have also tried this file as a geo-TIF which boosts the file size to 147MB, and QGIS is still unstable. Is this due to memory usage allocation? MacBook Pro 2GB of RAM, OSX.4.10, Kyng Chaos Frameworks, QGIS, GRASS 6.3 Running QGIS solitary with no other user applications. ie. Re: [Qgis-user] QGis Fedora Build Error
I somehow managed to configure, build and install qgis-0.8.0 WITHOUT Postgres. Hope this post will be useful for someone who'll be facing the same issues. These are the steps I followed: 1. Installed all qgis-0.8.0 dependencies as per the document. In particular installed 'qt-x11-opensource-src-4.2.3' under the location '/usr/local/Trolltech/Qt-4.2.3'. 2. Configured qgis using the the following command: ./configure --with-qtdir=/usr/local/Trolltech/Qt-4.2.3 --prefix=/usr/local/qgis (Note: I didn't mention about other libraries like gdal, geos etc... These are taken automatically as they are usually installed in the default location.) 3. After successful configuration, I issued the command 'make' (this will take some time) and then the command 'sudo make install' 4. 'qgis' execuatble can be foung at '/usr/local/qgis/bin'. 5. In command prompt go to the location '/usr/local/qgis' and issue the command './bin/qgis'. or In a file browser go to the location '/usr/local/qgis/bin' and then open (double click on) 'qgis' executable file. qgis application will be loaded for you. 6. That's all !!!. I'm not sure whether this is the correct way to install qgis but it worked for me. Someone please correct if I'm wrong. Hope you find this post useful. Will try with Postgres and let you asap. Regards, Ela On Fri, 2007-05-11 at 14:26 +0530, Elavazhagan.M wrote: Hi, I am trying to build qgis.0.8.0 on Fedora.
