Re: [ql-users] Attracting others to the Sinclair QL
I should be able to trace my various articles. It just needs someone to tell me which to send to whom! George ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm George, We would also welcome your input to the QL Wiki. However, I would suggest that Dilwyn collates all of the magazine articles for use on his documentation website and CD. Dilwyn - do you agree? -- Rich Mellor Broadly speaking, yes. However, the QL Wiki is an online source whereas only a few parts of the QL Documentation CD are online (space limitations). Anything online can in theory be accessed by anyone who has internet access, whereas probably only a minority of the QL community will acquire the Docs CD (apart from the version that was included on a QL Today cover CD). -- Dilwyn Jones ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm

A Wiki may be a good idea to allow this project to built up more quickly. Any suggestions as to a good one which I can install directly onto my Linux webhost? Perhaps a solution to your proposal can be a wiki publication system (like Wikipedia), where each one can contribute information, correct it and increase it when it is necessary. This has some disadvantages, because there is to review the contents and to know how the system in certain degree works. In message [EMAIL PROTECTED], Dilwyn Jones [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes While I doubt I'd have time to do anything specific on this, I'm quite happy for example for copiesof my website to be put on CD to be given away to help with cases like this. The website is 99% relative URLs for links within itself and full URLs for external links, so it might well work from CD, apart from some obvious features like the Form message service. Putting a free browser on the CD might be one way of running, though anyone with a browser should be able to fire it up from the index.html file. If you are interested, I could send you a copy on CD to try. Since my website contains links to other QL sites, general information, trader links as well as a lot of Free Software, it might be quite useful, especially if I could make time to merge the TopCities documentation site onto the CD. Haven't really thought this through yet, just floating the idea. I'm not sure if there's space on it, if there is, you'd be welcome to merge the website CD with QL Emulators CD to be given away in cases like this. Perfectly acceptable to put an image of several QL web sites on to a CD, as long as the authors of the sites agree. That way a good deal of the software is readily available, without downloading off the web. The only slight drawback is that the CD goes out of date when new versions occur. Although for a lot of the software this not too critical. -- Malcolm Cadman ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm
Re: [ql-users] Attracting others to the Sinclair QL
I have launched a QL Software Wiki if people wish to start contributing to it, it can be found at: http://www.rwapadventures.com/ql_wiki/ I will start adding content when I get chance. Rich Great idea - let's hope it proves popular. How do we contribute content to it - is it by using the Comment link (it says use edit link at one point, but couldn't find that)? That seems to bring up a form which is as far as I got, when I tried to enter anything I'm not sure if it crashed or if my internet connection dropped out, either way Internet Exploder exploded. -- Dilwyn Jones ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm
Re: [ql-users] Attracting others to the Sinclair QL
I misread your earlier email on this topic?? I will help where and when I can to do specific bits but I haven't much time to run specific software to get a screenshot in the first place. I can, however scan from magazines and convert to electronic files for someone else to send to the web etc. Let me know if I can help - maybe the authors can supply something - Dilwyn Jones, George Gwilt...? I really think that the one thing which would be useful would be a Sinclair QL database. Not as many problems as the long suggested QL Software depository, but a database with details of software, hardware and magazines, complete with screenshots and details of the authors (and links to websites). If you think about it, there are very few QL software screenshots on the web and certainly I would be willing to let my earlier articles be scanned in and available on the web somewhere. Alas I do not have a boat load of QL magazines anymore (or the time to scan them all in) but I am sure there must be some articles still in an electronic format. -- Rich Mellor RWAP Services URL:http://www.rwapsoftware.co.uk URL:http://www.rwapservices.co.uk ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm
