RE: [qmailtoaster] no Valid MX

2007-07-31 Thread Naveen

Does I need to have my local DNS server in my private
Network(192.168.1.x/24) or can I use my Service providers DNS server IP in
Qmail toaster?

My qmail toaster is placed under a firewall with private IP and allowed
related ports like 25,110,143 in my firewall. My domain was registered with
DirectNIC and later I can add my MX record in their DNS server

Right now I wa testing Qmail Toaster ISO with non existent domain like
test.com. Once I am familiar with QMT I am going to place it as production
server and going to change the domain to my valid domain.

Regards,
Naveen

I have actually tried this, and it failed. qmail's documentation
explicitly states that it does not look at /etc/hosts

installation went fine, how ever after creating a test domain named
as test.com and a user named as

[EMAIL PROTECTED] , I can't able to send email
my self. I am getting error

The message could not be sent because the server rejected the
 sender's e-mail address. The sender's e-mail address was

find a valid MX for sender domain (#5.1.1 - chkuser)', Port: 25,

yes you may need to setup local DNS on your private network. no need to
ask your ISP to create the dns zone for you as it could take some time
or you use bind which is included on qmtiso as dns server

I hope you are familiar with bind on how to create domain zone.
if not I got the same domain (test.com) in my devel qmtiso server at home.
tomorrow I'll paste you the dns zone for test.com, if I am not forgot

Also, this page advertises online poker sites:

Not that I object to poker - I play it quite a bit - it just does not
seem appropriate for a qmail-centric site. I chose qmail because I
don't want to gamble with my mail server :)

We had an issue with wiki-spam for a bit. It rears it's ugly head from
time to time, but for the most part it's stopped. I occasionally find a
page that had been spammed that needs to be reverted every once in a
while though.
As far as how to do this - read the link for queuelifetime. That file
is located in /var/qmail/control/queuelifetime
Adjust it to something like 10800 (3 hours), save the file, then
qmailctl restart.

Try setting your queueliftime

sort of low (I use 3 hours myself) and see if that will clean your
queue up some if you haven't already. I have a suspicion that the
bulk of that will be bounce messages and spam waiting to be flushed.
The default is to let them sit in there for 1 week before bouncing them.

[qmailtoaster] Spam Help

2007-07-31 Thread List Admin
My server is just getting slammed with spam. I wanted to see if anyone could
throw out some pointers or perhaps I am missing something.

1. I recently upgrade to the latest version of QTP. I ran
qtp-sa-update. Now when I run it, it just says "Already installed! Exiting."
Am I suppose to be running something else now?

2. I have spambox enabled via QmailAdmin for each mailbox. All mails
marked as spam are sent to this box for each user. That spam is dealt along
with the next step..

3. On a daily basis I have my users forward non-spam to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and spam to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Every morning my script
moves all mail from each users spambox into the same directory as
[EMAIL PROTECTED] I then run the following command:

--

#!/bin/bash

# Spam Assassin Bayes Training

# Learn spam!

cd /home/vpopmail/domains/domain.com/spam/Maildir/cur

/usr/bin/sa-learn --spam ./*

rm -rf /home/vpopmail/domains/ domain.com/spam/Maildir/cur/*

cd /home/vpopmail/domains/ domain.com/spam/Maildir/new

/usr/bin/sa-learn --spam ./*

rm -rf /home/vpopmail/domains/ domain.com/spam/Maildir/new/*

# Learn ham!

cd /home/vpopmail/domains/ domain.com/notspam/Maildir/cur

/usr/bin/sa-learn --ham ./*

rm -rf /home/vpopmail/domains/ domain.com/notspam/Maildir/cur/*

cd /home/vpopmail/domains/ domain.com/notspam/Maildir/new

/usr/bin/sa-learn --ham ./*

rm -rf /home/vpopmail/domains/ domain.com/notspam/Maildir/new/*

# Update the Bayes DB

/usr/bin/sa-learn -sync

90% of the time my results are usually as follows:

---

[EMAIL PROTECTED] spam]# ./salearn.sh

Learned tokens from 0 message(s) (0 message(s) examined)

Learned tokens from 86 message(s) (353 message(s) examined)

Learned tokens from 0 message(s) (0 message(s) examined)

Learned tokens from 0 message(s) (0 message(s) examined)

[EMAIL PROTECTED] spam]#

---

This is my process yet still lots of spam gets through unmarked.

Am I missing something here? I now have fake PDFs coming through which are
also causing problems for users.

Can anyone recommend anything on top of what I am doing or perhaps I am
doing something wrong.

Thanks

You can also try to see what kind of messages you have queued. If
you'been under a spam attack, you can safely delete those messages
from the queue.
Try with qmHandle, look for it in sf.net. Never try to delete those
messages by hand.

You can add surbl support to your spamassassin. Check

Mailfilter is always active? or only when the spambox is enabled via QmailAdmin?

for point 3 you dont need to do that as /etc/mail/mailfilter script

[qmailtoaster] bind and djb

2007-07-31 Thread Dan Herbon
I currently have "djbdns-localcache-1.05-1.0.2" installed and I just noticed
that the following bind utils are installed:

--

[EMAIL PROTECTED] share]# rpm -qa | grep bind

bind-libs-9.2.4-24.EL4

bind-utils-9.2.4-24.EL4

ypbind-1.17.2-13

[EMAIL PROTECTED] share]#

---

Will these bind libs and utils cause djbdns any problems?

Also is there a way I can tell that djbdns local caching is working?

It takes a while to train the Bayes. Give it a few days. It needs >200
hams AND spams to function correctly. The more you train it, the better
it will be.
As far as qtp-sa-update. That script installed a cron for you that will
update your Spamassassin rules automatically or you. Nothing else to do.
Having the users forward the messages to an account like that is "a bad
thing to do" according to the guys on the spamassassin mailing list.
You need to bounce the messages to those address, not forward. By
forwarding, programs like Outlook rewrite the headers, so your Bayes
thinks that the spam messages are being sent from the user that is
sending them. DSpam is supposed to work around this by keeping a local
cache of the original email, and when the user forwards it, it will look
up the original message by a serial number (for lack of a better way to
put it - I'm doing this from memory so bear with mistakes) and learns
from it that way.
Your biggest bangs for your buck are adding blacklists and enabling SURBL.
The PDF spams are a new addition to the spam world. They've been going
on for several weeks now. The boys over at Rules Emporium have some
rules written specifically for them that work okay, but you need to ask
for access to these rules - they're not open to everyone. There's also a
place to get additional rules for clamav that everyone on the
spamassassin mailing list is saying works really well on those PDF
emails. I have not tried them yet - maybe when things calm down in a
couple weeks here.

Good luck!

If you enable the spam detection box for the user, then yes, the script
is run when the message comes in (before it's actually delivered). If
the score goes above the threshold set, then it pipes the message to
sa-learn and deletes it. You also have a deletion method set by simscan
(/var/qmail/control/simcontrol) that will delete the message when it
gets above whatever score you have set there. Bear in mind that there
is a ceiling score of 18 (if I remember correctly) set by simscan during
compilation where the message will be deleted anyway.

Hope that helps.

Now some testing of other clients vs outlook 2007... what about you?

[qmailtoaster] blacklists and tcp.smtp

2007-07-31 Thread List Admin
My second office unfortunately has an Embarq public IP address. That IP is
listed on dsbl.org. I thought If I add their IP to the tcp.smtp file and
rebuild it show automatically allow them to send mail through the server. It
is rejecting all of their mail now.

The default is to let them sit in there for 1 week before bouncing them.
