Re: [qmailtoaster] disable mx check in chkuser

2010-04-06 Thread Rajesh M
hi

sorry but your reply does not solve my problem.

people add email addresses to their address book and some times there are
errors which are bound to come up.

let us say my customer is sending to around 100 users and one of the id's
are incorrect -- the way i need to handle is either point out where the
error ie which email id is wrong, or alternatively let all the emails go
and the bad one to bounce. i don't want the customer to go thru every
single email id and try to figure out which one is wrong.

chkuser can definitely be disabled if required -- but what i need to do is
disable only mx check and that too only for a specific ip address those
emails that originate from within my server

thanks
rajesh

Re: [qmailtoaster] disable mx check in chkuser

2010-04-06 Thread Maxwell Smart
I understand your point, but at some point they must take responsibility
for using the service effectively. If removing CHKUSER compromises
server security, which I believe it does I would find an alternative.
Eric and Jake will likely have a better solution.

[qmailtoaster] Question about teaching ham for spamassassin?

2010-04-06 Thread Peter Peltonen
My Qmailtoaster/Spamassassin has now started to mark real email
messages (like ones from Cron) as Spam.

Reading the Wiki, I guess I should use this script to teach it about ham:

# Learn ham!
cd /home/vpopmail/domains/$DOMAIN/$HAM/Maildir/cur
/usr/bin/sa-learn --ham ./*
rm -rf /home/vpopmail/domains/$DOMAIN/$HAM/Maildir/cur/*
cd /home/vpopmail/domains/$DOMAIN/$HAM/Maildir/new
/usr/bin/sa-learn --ham ./*
rm -rf /home/vpopmail/domains/$DOMAIN/$HAM/Maildir/new/*

Two questions about the process

1) Should I teach only the mislabeled messages or should I include
also other correctly labeled ham messages as well?

2) As which user should I run the script, root or vpopmail?

Regards,
Peter

By commenting #define CHKUSER_SENDER_MX the desired purpose can be achieved.
Suppose you send mail to 10 recipients and out of those 2 are not valid or
are wrong email addresses, then mail to the rest 8 recipients will be
delivered and for rest 2 email addresses you will receive message something
like example given below:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Re: [qmailtoaster] disable mx check in chkuser

2010-04-06 Thread Postmaster

The other way of looking at this problem is using an alternative SMTP
server (smart host?).
If you use the SMTP server (ISP's one) then all e-mails are accepted and
after some time

you have those e-mails which were mistyped bounced back.

I find MX check very useful which saves my time if I have a typo in the
email address.

Also I would not disable Chkuser function.

i am talking about disabling mx check for single ip address using tcp.smtp

is there a solution for this ?

Re: [qmailtoaster] disable mx check in chkuser

2010-04-06 Thread Postmaster
I do not think this is doable though Eric or Jake probably can correct
me if I am wrong.

I think you can disable chkuser only for entire server.

Alex

i find that everybody feels that i want to disable CHKUSR or MX CHECK for
the entire server .. which is not what i want.

i am talking about disabling mx check for single ip address using tcp.smtp
file and not for the entire server.

is there a solution for this ?

rajesh

The other way of looking at this problem is using an alternative SMTP
server (smart host?).
If you use the SMTP server (ISP's one) then all e-mails are accepted and
after some time
you have those e-mails which were mistyped bounced back.

I find MX check very useful which saves my time if I have a typo in the
email address.
Also I would not disable Chkuser function.

By commenting #define CHKUSER_SENDER_MX the desired purpose can be

Suppose you send mail to 10 recipients and out of those 2 are not valid

are wrong email addresses, then mail to the rest 8 recipients will be
delivered and for rest 2 email addresses you will receive message
something
like example given below:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

The following recipient(s) cannot be reached:

'acal...@gnvfc.net' on 4/6/2010 2:00 PM

You will have to modify the CHKUSER_SENDER_FORMAT too
like this
//#define CHKUSER_RCPT_FORMAT
and for outgoing
//#define CHKUSER_SENDER_MX
//#define CHKUSER_SENDER_FORMAT

sorry but your reply does not solve my problem.

people add email addresses to their address book and some times there
are
errors which are bound to come up.

let us say my customer is sending to around 100 users and one of the
id's
are incorrect -- the way i need to handle is either point out where the
error ie which email id is wrong, or alternatively let all the emails
go
and the bad one to bounce. i don't want the customer to go thru every
single email id and try to figure out which one is wrong.

chkuser can definitely be disabled if required -- but what i need to do
is
disable only mx check and that too only for a specific ip address those
emails that originate from within my server

thanks

Rajesh,

Maybe your customers should be more careful entering the address they
are sending to? You can't make everything stupid proof.

I don't think you can disable CHKUSER nor do I think you'd want to.
This occurs not only in Squirrelmail, but in Thunderbird and other e
mail clients when the recipient is addressed incorrectly.

If it's enabled during compilation, then it's enabled for chkuser in all
instances.
You can either leave it on, or turn it off for the entire server by
modifying the code during compilation.
There has been some talk of overrides in the tcp.smtp file for options
such as this, but I have not dug into the chkuser code nor tried this
myself, so I cannot say for sure it will not work

/usr/bin/sa-learn --ham ./*
rm -rf /home/vpopmail/domains/$DOMAIN/$HAM/Maildir/new/*

Two questions about the process

1) Should I teach only the mislabeled messages or should I include
also other correctly labeled ham messages as well?

2) As which user should I run the script, root or vpopmail?

Regards,
Peter

It would be good to teach it both, and the wiki information is a little
out of date - the script needs to be run with sudo vpopmail for the
sa-learn command or su'ed to vpopmail. Otherwise you're just learning
ham/spam for root, which will never be used since simscan calls it with
vpopmail access.

You're missing a perl module. Install the Mail::DomainKeys module
(preferably RPM). I think this has been discussed previously, and I also
think I release a video on how to fix this.

QControl only parses the current log file (/var/log/qmail/smtp/current)
- not any historical log files. So if your logs just rotated then the

hi jake

i have a running toaster machine with around 5000 email users on it ie a
very very busy server.

one of the group members advised me to recompile qmail toaster and enable
CHKUSER_STARTING_VARIABLE "CHKUSER_START" as per the guideline given below

http://wiki.qmailtoaster.org/index.php/Chkuser

my question is that will this totally remove the /var/qmail directory and
reinstall the entire qmail ?

any special care that needs to be taken ?

thanks

This will not remove the /var/qmail directory. When you modify the
package and reinstall, it *will* reinstall the qmail-toaster portions
(qmail-pop3, qmail-smtp, qmail-send, etc.)
And yes, special care does need to be taken - this is a production
system you obviously run your business off of. If you make changes
without an action plan, testing, and a revert plan, then *I* would not
want you to be running any of my services.

-

This has be touched on before in the list.

Reference
http://www.interazioni.it/opensource/chkuser/documentation/chkuser_settings.html,
 Note on version 2.0.8L

* CHKUSER_RCPT_FORMAT
* CHKUSER_RCPT_MX
* CHKUSER_SENDER_FORMAT
* CHKUSER_SENDER_MX
are now off by chkuser's default (not QMT default). I believe that this
is a good choice, because if they're turned on (uncommented) during the
build, then there's no way to turn them off. IOW, they're on globally,
all of the time when they're uncommented during the build.

When they're left off by default, they can be turned on in the tcp.smtp
file, and this can then be done selectively by IP address. This is what
Rajesh is trying to do.

So, to answer Rajesh's question, he will need to (re)build qmail-toaster
with these options commented out (the chkuser default), then add them to
the lines in his tcp.smtp file (e.g. "CHKUSER_RCPT_MX="") where he wants
them turned on.

(The rest of this is perhaps more appropriate for the devel list):

I think that this would be a better stock configuration for QMT. Leave
the default chkuser settings as they are (off), and turn them on by
adding them to the stock QMT tcp.smtp file, instead of by modifying the
source code. This would make it easier to tailor QMT in situations such
as this. Note, I am not suggesting that every chkuser parameter be added
to the tcp.smtp line, only the ones where the QMT setting is different
than chkuser's default.

While this will make the tcp.smtp file a little more lengthly, I think
it's worth it. Besides, it's generally a good practice to "change the
config, not the source". ;)

On a side note, I would like to see the tcp.smtp file simplified as
well. If squirrelmail is configured to authenticate, the 127.: line can
be eliminated (which I have done in my configurations).

Can you send a test e-mail to sa-t...@sendmail.net from your qmailtoaster

Your tcp.smtp:

12.169.159.250:allow,RELAYCLIENT=""

DKSIGN="/var/qmail/control/domainkeys/%/private",:allow,BADMIMETYPE="",BADLO

In my tcp.smtp I also have DKSIGN="/var/qmail/control/domainkeys/%/private
in 127.:allow section

The DKIM script (assuming you're using the one from the video) - if you
followed the video - only signs for DKIM. It replaces the qmail-dk
handler, so messages will not be signed with domainkeys (you can
actually leave all those directives out of your tcp.smtp file). If you
wish to sign with both DKIM and DomainKeys, then you need to edit the
config file for the dkim module to tell it to also sign for DomainKeys.
I believe I provided some links for subscribers in the DKIM video for
more documentation, which will show you how to sign for DomainKeys as well.

Have you run qtp-newmodel within the last year?

If not, run it. If you don't want to upgrade anything, that's fine. Just
tell it to rebuild any package. It will install all of the current perl
dependencies. Once qtp-newmodel gets to the sandbox part, you can quit it.

I plan to make the dependency installation a script that can be invoked
on its own, but haven't done do yet.

Note, I would not recommend using CPAN to upgrade perl modules. There is
at least one module there (namely MakeMaker) that cause problems with
the present spamassassin-toaster package.

Re: [qmailtoaster] Domainkeys

2010-04-06 Thread Postmaster

Jake,

I was thinking that the following wrappers are used:
For Domainkeys - qmail-dk
For DKIM - qmail-remote

Therefore, If you install DKIM (your video) on top of Domainkey
installation described on the wiki,
they can both work without any issues. This is what I have on my
qmailtoaster - both Domainkey and DKIM are

signing even though DKIM has not been setup to sign both.

Regards
Alex

Had you checked your server IP address for blacklist? This happens
when your server is blacklisted on some RBL and recipient is using
that RBL.

You can do it that way - I do not recall if I worked it that way in the

Have you installed spamdyke? I don't know for sure, but I expect that

If using Spamdyke then the RBL function of Qmailtoaster would not be

correct if that is the case.

Yep - and since your server is rated "poor" it will get blocked by
servers that are using the Barracuda RBL.

You will need to contact them to have your server removed from their RBL.

Sorry, misread the message.
The Barracuda list is very agile - try sending your message again to see
if it goes through now. You may have been previously. 'Course, the
message only *looks* like the one received from Barracuda's BL. It may
be a completely different RBL.
