You do not need to install the additional packages. If you install
using one of the documents on the site, you can probably stop after
vqadmin-toaster, unless you do not need the web packages, in which

Just to be clear, you don't need vqadmin-toaster either. I never

As I said - unless he needs the web tools, in which case he can omit

-

I see. I didn't make the connection between "web tools" and vqadmin. I
guess I wasn't awake yet. ;)

We should actually start a thread on this on the devel list - if it's
still broken after the next vpopmail update, I'm inclined to not include
it in v2.

2010-08-16 Thread Jose Sanchez
Hello Eric,

No a problem. Thank you very much for this peace of work.
I was able to get qmt installed and running correctly on my system, although Im
having a small issue on this new installation (described below), probably you
guys can give me a hand on this,

I forgot to add a proper hostname before installing qmt and now when I try to
send an email I get a bounced email, I changed the server hostname and rebooted
the machine but Im still having the same issue, I suspect is because of the
hostname although I add few headers below for just in case,

Remote host said: 550 Access denied - Invalid HELO name (See RFC2821 4.1.1.1)

--- Below this line is a copy of the message.

Return-Path:
Received: (qmail 1627 invoked by uid 89); 17 Aug 2010 03:53:01 -
Received: from unknown (HELO ?127.0.0.1?) (jose...@domain2.com@190.135.212.148)
  by mail.domain2.com with ESMTPA; 17 Aug 2010 03:53:00 -

Do I need to change any other file after updating the server hostname?

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

That's indeed the correct remedy, Jose.

I apologize for not having cut a new QTP package recently. We're in the
process of migrating the site to a new host, and I'd to wait for that to
be completed before cutting the next release. Everyone's patience and

Hello,

Thanks for the quick response, very appreciated.
Ok so I basically start the installation and cancell it after vqadmin-toaster
has been installed. Thanks I will give this a try.

I really dont need web based tools, just need to create few domains and be able
to send (using DK) and receive using pop3.

Thanks guys!

Welcome! Here's a possible rsync snippet in case you need one:

rsync -avz --delete -e "ssh -i rsync-key"
u...@hostname:/home/vpopmail/domains/* /home/vpopmail/domains/.

rsync-key to be replaced with your own authorized key.

I use rsync with a key to backup /home/vpopmail/domains/ to a second
QMT server. It runs on a cron every couple of minutes across a local
lan. And so far, it seems to be working flawlessly. I also dump the

Now comes the question:
Apart from the loss of a couple of minutes of mail in case the primary

Hey guys,

Im trying to install qmailtoaster on a VPS (following the instructions at:
http://wiki.qmailtoaster.org/index.php/CentOS_5_QmailToaster_Install) with a
very small amount of RAM and I was wondering how can I install qmail toaster
without all that features (clamav, freshclam, spamassassin, mailing lists, RBL
checks, etc.)

I only need qmail toaster with DomainKeys, and POP3 service.

Thank you in advance.

this is how I am running qmailtoaster on small ram server 256 - 768MB
the easiest is install all packages first then stop qmail service,
after that set spam: no and clam: no on /var/qmail/control/simcontrol
file (clamd/spamd are eating RAM)

don't forget to run qmailctl cdb
then stop qmail (qmailctl stop)
after that remove unwanted service (clamd/spamd) for folder
/var/qmail/supervise (you may also want to remove pop3s/imaps/submission
but make sure you know whay you are doing)

stop freshclam service (service freshclam stop; chkconfig freshclam off)
install dkim and spamdyke (how to is on wiki)
after that run qmail (qmailctl start)

to remove mailinglist just uninstall ezmlm

authlib send smtp submission

ps2: when there is no clamd/spamd, expect your mailbox will be flooded

but with spamdyke it would decrease it's threshold
I have setup this box only for proxying user mailbox on branch from HQ

that's why I don't need spamd and clamd as it was already scanned on HQ

The backup and restore scripts backup the user's mail, the database,
and your config files.
To restore, install a fresh QMT installation and run the restore
script. It will restore the above items.
If you only wish to back up the mailstore, then you only need
/home/vpopmail/domains (you can drill this down to a specific domain
or even user if you want).

I use rsync with a key to backup /home/vpopmail/domains/ to a second
QMT server. It runs on a cron every couple of minutes across a local
lan. And so far, it seems to be working flawlessly. I also dump the
vpopmail database nightly for good measure (Users don't get added very
frequently).

Now comes the question:
Apart from the loss of a couple of minutes of mail in case the primary
server goes down, has anyone noticed any other problems using this
method for backup?

Ugh.. Ive been at it for a while and dont know where else to look.

You'll need to look at your database structure to compare it against
the "working" one and the restored. Something is different there -
I've used the script to backup/restore 20+ servers without issue.

I fixed the issue with the backup portion and everything restores but
for some reason the domains when being displayed in vqadmin will give
a 500 error on the page. All except one..
I did some looking at the database and did some comparing and cannot
find any differences than what you spoke about.
I corrected these and made it look like the working domain but still
same issue.

Seeing some logs will be helpful.
Are you doing anything else not mentioned? Going from an older version
to a new? From 32-bit to 64-bit?

Does the uid/gid of vpopmail match on both servers?

The problem appears to be here:
USER_IN_WHITELIST
You have the user defined in your local.cf file as whitelisted, so
they start with a -100 score. As spamassassin adds together all of the
positive scores, they end up with a -66.8, so this user will never
have their mail deleted as spam.

Could it be a wildcard whitelist for hotmail in local.cf? Because I
doubt this user would have been manually added to local.cf.

Bharath

Possible. It would only be guessing until the local.cf is provided.

At local.cf I added whitelist_from *...@hotmail.com .

My others question, why this server can be as spammer. This server not
openrelay.i still looking for this.

You whitelisted everyone at hotmail.com, so every email that comes from
someone at hotmail.com starts with a score of -100 (note that is a
NEGATIVE sign before the 100). So the incoming email hit all of these rules:

FH_DATE_PAST_20XX,FH_FAKE_RCVD_LINE,FORGED_HOTMAIL_RCVD2,INVALID_MSGID,

MIME_BOUND_DD_DIGITS,MIME_QP_LONG_LINE,MISSING_HEADERS,MISSING_MIMEOLE,

MSGID_MULTIPLE_AT,RCVD_DOUBLE_IP_SPAM,RCVD_HELO_IP_MISMATCH,RCVD_IN_PBL,

RCVD_IN_SORBS_DUL,RCVD_NUMERIC_HELO,RDNS_NONE,SUBJECT_NEEDS_ENCODING,

SUBJ_ILLEGAL_CHARS,TVD_SPACE_RATIO

Which added to a score of 33.2 which would normally cause the message to
be deleted, but since all users at hotmail.com start with a -100, it
only added the score to -66.8, which is still 71.8 points away from even
being marked as spam.
To stop these types of messages you need to remove the whitelisting for
hotmail.com (possibly only whitelist individual addresses?) and possibly
adjust your spam rules and their scoring.
The system worked as designed. It accepted a message (you have not shown
us enough of the headers to really know what was going on), and scored
it exactly how you told it to score messages.

# ln -s ../../../data/graylist /opt/spamdyke/var/.
# service qmail start
This will move your graylist tree to the /data partition, and symlink to

Free up whatever additional space you can on / (hda1). Something(s) in

In order to run qtp-newmodel successfully with your partition layout,
you'll need to change where things go a little. Edit the
/opt/qmailtoaster-plus/bin/qtp-config file, and change
export OVERLAY=/opt/qtp-overlay

If you want to use the unionfs sandbox, you'll need to grab the current

[qmailtoaster] Re: running a small version of qmail toaster

2010-08-16 Thread Eric Shubert

Jose Sanchez wrote:

How much ram specifically?

[qmailtoaster] Re: Clam-av update

2010-08-16 Thread Eric Shubert

Frank,

qtp-newmodel cannot create a fresh sandbox for you because there is
something accessing the old one. Perhaps a terminal window where you
have cd'd into the sandbox tree (/mnt/qtp-sandbox/...)? Make sure that
there is nothing accessing the sandbox tree, and try again.

Let's start by making sure you have the latest QTP installed:
# yum update qmailtoaster-plus

Then let's free up a little space on / (hda1). I'm guessing here, but
perhaps you have spamdyke installed (a good thing), and the graylist
tree in /opt/spamdyke/var is taking a bit of space, and certainly
inodes. I would:
# service qmail stop
# mv /opt/spamdyke/var/graylist /data/.
# ln -s ../../../data/graylist /opt/spamdyke/var/.
# service qmail start
This will move your graylist tree to the /data partition, and symlink to
it.

Free up whatever additional space you can on / (hda1). Something(s) in
/root perhaps?

In order to run qtp-newmodel successfully with your partition layout,
you'll need to change where things go a little. Edit the
/opt/qmailtoaster-plus/bin/qtp-config file, and change
export OVERLAY=/opt/qtp-overlay
to
export OVERLAY=/mnt/qtp-overlay

If you want to use the unionfs sandbox, you'll need to grab the current
qtp-install-rpmforge script from the svn repository:
# cd /opt/qmailtoaster-plus/bin
# wget http://qtp.qmailtoaster.com/trac/export/140/bin/qtp-install-rpmforge
# chmod 755 qtp-install-rpmforge

I expect that should get you going.
Let us know how you make out.
