[qmailtoaster] Migration of data to new server

2022-02-18 Thread qmailtoaster

Hi List

I have a fairly new Qmailtoaster server and I am migrating data from an
older server to it.

I have noticed that the new server stores names and the like in
iso-8859-1.

If I want the new server to use UTF-8 everywhere, incl. in
5.5.68-MariaDB, where should I change settings?

It is running:

# cat /etc/centos-release
CentOS Linux Release 7.9.2009 (Core)

I have these Qmailtoaster packages installed:

Re: [qmailtoaster] Migration from old server

2016-12-06 Thread Eric Broch

I used rsync to do this exact thing.

I modeled my migration after the old backup scripts, migrating the same
data with rsync instead of backing up and restoring.

I was pleasantly surprised when it went off seamlessly.

Most probably this issue raised from Dovecot authentication problem. Please
check dovecot config in SSL line and password authentication line.

Easy way,
Setup new server with qmailtoaster . ( remionder Centos 6, not 100% yet )
Follow Jake Vickers video on replication.
All users settings and data are replicated.

If you don't want to change any DNS settings, them once you have
replicated, shutdown old server,

Make IP address of new server same as old.

This is how I have my replication going, If my master server fails, I
shut it down and re-IP my secondary,

Email back on line in minutes.

[qmailtoaster] migration from ms exchange to qmailtoaster

2012-02-21 Thread Peter Peltonen
Hi,

Is anyone here familiar what is the best way to migrate from MS
Exchange to QmailToaster/IMAP?

This is the information I have to work with:

* I will be able to get the usernames and passwords for the remote MS
Exchange wembail
* I will have access to Outlook that has been installed for one of the
users for remote use: I am not sure how it connects to the Exchange,
via VPN or by some other means (MAPI?)

If I can get my hands on the remote Outlook, can I then use this
configuration with the other accounts as well to access the Exchange
server? I just thought to install the Toaster IMAP account as parallel
Inbox in Outlook and then manually copy all the messages folder by
folder.

I assume there is no open source alternative for
http://www.migrationwiz.com/ (has anyone used that service, btw)?

Best,

I have not used the migrationwiz.com product before, but I can tell you
this:

1) If you have a cleartext copy of the user (e-mail addresses of their
mailbox) and password information, that can easily be scripted into the
vpopmail/bin/vadduser command to automagically (via script) add the
usernames and passwords.

2) Getting the old messages and folders may be more difficult -- but in
the past, I've just told individual users to copy over what they wanted
(thus, giving them a chance to clean out some messages) -- in fact, I
use a little human engineering here lie -- telling them that we pay
extra for all the storage, so only copy what they really need!

Just my thoughts...

Re: [qmailtoaster] migration from ms exchange to qmailtoaster

2012-02-21 Thread Casey Price
One option is to create PST's of your mailboxes, and then on the clients
using Outlook you can just import the PST. Also, I know there are some
imap copying scripts/utils floating around out there that sound fairly
easy to use.

Do you have Admin access to your Exchange server? If so, you could use
exmerge to dump PST's of all of the mailboxes (this can be scripted as
well), and then re-import them on the client side from within Outlook.
Are you just going to be using squirrelmail, or roundcube, for your
webmail client? You could just use the one machine that has Outlook and
setup a profile for each user (could be a PITA depending upon how many
mailboxes you are talking about...), and then import the PSTs.

This is no problem...

2) Getting the old messages and folders may be more difficult -- but in the
past, I've just told individual users to copy over what they wanted (thus,
giving them a chance to clean out some messages) -- in fact, I use a little
human engineering here lie -- telling them that we pay extra for all the
storage, so only copy what they really need!

But this is: AFAIK only one user has Outlook configured and others are
using Remote Outlook webmail, which of course does not offer the
chance to copy messages to remote IMAP server.

If you have the cleartext passwords, imapsync.pl will do it really easily
for you provided the Exchange server a) supports IMAP b) Has a copy of the
 user mail.

I don't think the server supports imap and I don't have admin rights

Lets see what I find out when I get access to the user's Outlook.

[qmailtoaster] qmailtoaster migration

2012-02-17 Thread Jon Ernster
I need to move vps' - one hosts a qmailtoaster instance and I'd like to migrate
all my existing data and spamassassin spam database over to the new server.

Can anyone tell me what exactly needs to be moved to accomplish this and point
out anything that I might be missing?

Seems to me, to move my virtual domains/users/email I need to copy over what
resides within /home/vpopmail.

If it matters here's the versions I'm running for some of the stuff:

[user@vps ~]$ rpm -qa | grep qmail*
qmail-pop3d-toaster-1.03-1.3.15
qmailadmin-toaster-1.2.11-1.3.4
qmail-toaster-1.03-1.3.15
[user@vps ~]$ rpm -qa | grep spam*
spamassassin-toaster-3.1.8-1.3.8
[user@vps ~]$ rpm -qa | grep vpop*
vpopmail-toaster-5.4.17-1.3.4

Thanks.

[qmailtoaster] Migration to new server

I have a toaster server that has been giving me fits. I decided it would
be easiest just to build a new one and make some changes that I have
wanted to make. I built the new server, and installed Dovecot on it.
Then I thought - LOL. Can I migrate the existing email over, or do I have
to migrate the email then convert to Dovecot?

[qmailtoaster] migration from qmail/vpopmail to qmailtoaster, vdominfo shows 0 users for all domains.

I've followed the directions exactly for Migrating from qmail using vpasswd:
(thank you for putting this together)
http://wiki.qmailtoaster.com/index.php/Migrating_from_qmail_that_using_vpass
wd

All accounts have been transferred, over, SQL has been imported, I'm able to
test them in my mail client and login via POP3 and IMAP fine.
qmailadmin and vqadmin work fine, they show all of the users and domains.

The only issue I'm seeing is:

/home/vpopmail/bin/vdominfo will display all of the domains, but shows the
following for every domain:
users: 0

Yet there are of course many users in each domain.

Before I get ready to go live on this new qmailtoaster install I wanted to
make sure nothing is seriously broken.

Any help or suggestions on what I need to do to fix this or where to look
would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You should not have any problems. I believe that vdominfo does not read
the vpopmail database, so puts a 0 for the number of users.

[qmailtoaster] Migration request from iredmail to QMT5

2010-09-07 Thread Steve
Hello all,

I am in need of migrating from an iredmail 0.4.0 install (with a mysql backend)
to the latest qmailtoaster. I already have the QMT5 x86_64 ISO installed on a
separate machine. Not sure if anyone here has any experience doing such a move.
It would include several domains, about 500 users and about 70GB worth of
maildir data. The machines are in the same data center. So I'm guessing it
would be a pretty easy rsync command, then changing permissions on everything
that is transferred. But my biggest headache so far is trying to figure out the
MySQL transfer. Anyone have a script already built that could make this happen?
I would prefer to not have to change everyones credentials in the process.

http://www.iredmail.org/features.html This site describes the structure of
iredmail in case you were wondering. Their upgrade options are not very good at
this point. They are relatively new. I should have just started with QMT to
begin with but my boss had to have DKIM and QMT didn't offer it at the time...
We've learned our lesson.

Thanks in advance!

The way I see it, you have 2 issues. One is migrating the accounts, the
other is migrating their mail.

RE: [qmailtoaster] Migration

2007-12-12 Thread Dairenn Lombard
Hello Sandip,

I've attached a shell script I wrote for my company that can
automatically migrate a single domain from one qmail toaster server to
another using SCP (you need to create an RSA key for the root user on
the source server, and then add it to the /root/.ssh/authorized_keys
file on the destination server in order to not have to keep re-entering
your root password/passphrase for every SCP operation).

One warning is that if you decided to compile vpopmail-toaster using one
table for all domains rather than one table per domain, this script wont
work for you.

Another issue has to do with the pathnames of directories on toasters
with lots of domain names. After so many domains are added, instead of
customer's e-mail being setup inside of
/home/vpopmail/domains/example.com it shifts to a subdirectory in
/home/vpopmail/domains/1/example.com with 1 becoming 2, 2 becoming 3
(etc, etc.) as more and more domains are added. When my script
re-creates the account being migrated on the new server, it then gets
from vpopmail on the destination server the new pathname as it exists on
that server, and then tries to go through and update a bunch of things.
Things like the dump file of that domain's mysql table and various
.qmail* files.

Unfortunately, I couldn't come up with a way of doing this to the
individual .qmail files that can appear in some user directories where
things like forward+save a local copy have been enabled using
qmailadmin. Therefore, my script simply deletes these files, because if
they exist but use the wrong directory, extremely strange behavior
results (no mail showing up, duplicates of mail showing up, etc).

You can comment out that part of the script which does delete user's
.qmail files, but you'll need to remember to change those files by hand
post-migration so that the /home/vpopmail/domains directory referenced
matches the pathname of the domain you're currently working with.

If anyone would like to improve my script, I would love to know about
it.

 Subject: RE: [qmailtoaster] Migration

 Hello Sandip,

I've attached a shell script I wrote for my company that can
automatically migrate a single domain from one qmail toaster
server to another using SCP (you need to create an RSA key
for the root user on the source server, and then add it to
the /root/.ssh/authorized_keys file on the destination server
in order to not have to keep re-entering your root
 password/passphrase for every SCP operation).

One warning is that if you decided to compile
vpopmail-toaster using one table for all domains rather than
one table per domain, this script wont work for you.

Another issue has to do with the pathnames of directories on
toasters with lots of domain names. After so many domains
are added, instead of customer's e-mail being setup inside of
 /home/vpopmail/domains/example.com it shifts to a
 subdirectory in /home/vpopmail/domains/1/example.com with 1
becoming 2, 2 becoming 3 (etc, etc.) as more and more domains
are added. When my script re-creates the account being
migrated on the new server, it then gets from vpopmail on the
destination server the new pathname as it exists on that
server, and then tries to go through and update a bunch of
things. Things like the dump file of that domain's mysql
 table and various
 .qmail* files.

Unfortunately, I couldn't come up with a way of doing this to
the individual .qmail files that can appear in some user
directories where things like forward+save a local copy have
been enabled using qmailadmin. Therefore, my script simply
deletes these files, because if they exist but use the wrong
directory, extremely strange behavior results (no mail
showing up, duplicates of mail showing up, etc).

You can comment out that part of the script which does delete
user's .qmail files, but you'll need to remember to change
those files by hand post-migration so that the
 /home/vpopmail/domains directory referenced matches the
pathname of the domain you're currently working with.

If anyone would like to improve my script, I would love to
 know about it.

 Dear all,

How do i copy vpopmail domains mailboxes of all users
manually from one server to another ? In old server domains
 uids are 7797 ( checking /var/qmail/users/assign ) but in
new server domains uids are 89. If I manually created all old
domains in new server , the uids will be 89. and then how do
i copy all the users and their maildirectories from old

#!/bin/sh
# /usr/local/sbin/toastercp.sh
# Copy qmail toaster domains onto another qmail toaster.
#
# Usage: /usr/local/sbin/toastercp.sh domain.com remote.mail.server.hostname
#
# CAUTION - this is only going to work if BOTH vpopmail-toaster installs were
# compiled with --disable-many-domains, otherwise, there will be a MySQL table
# mismatch and IMAP/POP authencation will fail. It's Okay to enable many
# domains, but again, BOTH servers must have already had vpopmail-toaster
# installed that way, otherwise you need to manually convert the vpopmail
# tables from one format to the other - which this script does not do.
#
#
# Change Log:
# Version - Feature
# -
# 1.02 - Older mysqldumps don't write dump files to include dropping
# the tables being backed up, so now this script inserts that
# (this may produce MySQL warnings, as newer mysqldumps will
# have this, and therefore, complain that it can't drop a table
# that doesn't exist. Because .qmail-default files don't
# always exist, added find statements to not bother with it if
# it is not there. When using cpio to build a skeleton of
# files, find now looks for these files in the correct
# directory.
# 1.01 - Patches .qmail-default for the Unix pathname on the new mail
# server if catchall is set to another local e-mail address
# rather than catchall-to-bounce, catchall-to-delete, or
# catchall-forward. Not doing this results in maildrop

you can test drive it.

Re: [qmailtoaster] Migration

2007-12-05 Thread Johannes Weberhofer, Weberhofer GmbH

There is some information at
http://wiki.qmailtoaster.com/index.php/Main_Page#Migration

I'm using rsync for migrating from one to another system. After having installed all RPM's, a rsync via the network keeps all owner/group settings for the files. Of course you have to check/modify some files (like assign). This way of copying works best when the qmail-toaster versions are identical the old and the new server.
Btw:--dry-run is a nice parameter for rsync, which can be used to show what rsync would do without the parameter.

The mysql-database must be dumped on the old server and inserted on the new
server, too.

Here is what I am copying during migration:

#courier configuration
rsync -tvrlog --delete oldserver.mydomain.com:/etc/courier /etc

#vpopmail domains
rsync -trlog --delete oldserver.mydomain.com:/home/vpopmail /home

#qmail configuration
rsync -tvrlog --delete oldserver.mydomain.com:/var/qmail/alias /var/qmail
rsync -tvrlog --delete oldserver.mydomain.com:/var/qmail/control /var/qmail
rsync -tvrlog --delete oldserver.mydomain.com:/var/qmail/users /var/qmail
rsync -tvrlog --delete oldserver.mydomain.com:/var/log/qmail /var/log

#isoqlog data
rsync -tvrlog --delete oldserver.mydomain.com:/usr/share/toaster/htdocs/isoqlog
/usr/share/toaster/htdocs/
rsync -tvrlog --delete oldserver.mydomain.com:/usr/share/toaster/htdocs/mrtg
/usr/share/toaster/htdocs/

2007-12-03 Thread Daniel Dekok
you might want to look at the qmailtoaster-plus backup and restore
scripts, they point to most of the data that is migrated, and could
probably be used.

I did the last migration manually, from a non qmail toaster system to
a qmail toaster one.

but in a general sense, you need the vpopmail domains directory
(usually /home/vpopmail/domains) and everything under it

and you'll need the vpopmail database backend.

best to merge the files in /var/qmail/control by hand, and the files
in /home/vpopmail/etc

Just my two cents..and not worth very much

Manual here and there?
Its old and not very pretty but, not useless, and works for me.
rsync and/or with a cron job
rsync avz xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:/home/vpopmail/domains /home/vpopmail
rsync avz xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:/usr/share/squirrelmail/prefs
/usr/share/squirrelmail
create a vpopmail database and/or dump your domain data into it
(the rest I just tweak on my own (since some may need cdb to rebuild or
maybe I dont want some old things in assassin, tcprules or qmail control)
I set up cron to a spare back up server, ready to go public if need be.
pretty good end results

domain on new toaster should be created manually via cli
and at least for creating users on new box now you can use bulk useradd
script on

http://wiki.qmailtoaster.com/index.php/Bulk_User_Adding_For_Qmail_Toaster
after that you can sync user's mailbox from old box
other configuration maybe you should copy / edit manually

before I am using qmailtoaster, I was using qmail-ldap, no configuration
taken from my old box since it didnt use simscan/clam/SA/ etc...

so I am just moving user accounts and mailboxes

The backup/restore scripts work great, but I had nightmares moving my

problem was the user id that was assigned to qmail (or maybe is was
vpopmail?) was automtically assigned to another service in centos, I
think it was 89? Anyway, check the uids in your rh system before
putting the toaster in the centos system, then remove the service, or
change the uid of the service using the same uid on the centos system
before attempting it..I ended up doing it manually in the end
though...

#get your vpopmail user password for the next step:
 cat /home/vpopmail/etc/vpopmail.mysql | awk -F\| '{print $4}'

#export the mysql database and grep for the domain you added to see if it
imported (you'll need to know your vpopmail pass):
#(don't worry this just exports... drop is how you get rid of a database)
mysqldump -uvpopmail vpopmail -p | grep domain

#note - there seems to be an issue with the usercount after importing the
users and i haven't looked into it to fix it (other than manually editing
 the table value)

#note as a separate reminder (not related to converting) - you may want to
compile with roaming users because it's not built by default by the
 toaster.

Re: [qmailtoaster] Exim 4.43 to qmailtoaster migration

2006-02-10 Thread kishore chowdary

hi eric

please let me know step by step how u did it.i need little guidence atleast
a mini-howto.waiting for ur reply.

first install a fresh new qmailtoaster server create the virtual domains
user's with the same user id's domain names as in the old email
server.then go for individual email farwarding option of every email id
farward it to the newly created domain.

if i do this will only new mail's get forwarded to my new mail server or the
prevoius old mails which r already there in Exim get forwarded. Please throw
some light on this whole thing.

Thanx Regards

If you are using IMAP on the new one as well, just drag and drop them
back into the new account you set up on their machine. Or just add the
second account, and drag and drop from the old server to the new.

You can use IMAP to copy the old e-mails that were downloaded from the
old server to the new server. It's drag and drop.

Remember to set the IMAP Root string to INBOX. without the quotes,
but including the period.

Re: [qmailtoaster] Exim 4.43 to qmailtoaster migration

2006-02-09 Thread Erik Espinoza
Not sure you will find a lot of exim experts in a qmail list. The real
question is can you produce a list of domains, users per domain and
clear text passwords for all of your users?

If so, the migration can be childs play with the use of
vaddomain/vadduser and the command line tools. If not, then you will
have to manually migrate each user manually.
