Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Does this new model have a auto-sleep button?

2009-09-30 Thread morgan4x4

I read this thread with amazement. I have a SB Radio on order with
Amazon, I placed the order on Sept 3 and simply assumed that a product
marketed as a bedside radio (with alarm) would have a snooze button.
This is the most basic of functionality. The Boom, of which I have 3,
is frankly too big to be an aesthetic alarm clock replacement. Despite
this, it has a snooze button, something I rely on each morning to give
me that extra 9 minutes from 4:51 - 5:00.

I am curious to _hear_from_Logitech_ why they decided to design this
product without the snooze. This is clearly a fatal and fundamental
design flaw. I am sure all the Logitech folks, especially from product
design and marketing, will rationalize to themselves and others about
the reasons for the choices, and defend the steps that took them to
where we are today. Simply put, somebody dropped the ball big time!
This is inexcusable, and I believe that Logitech should stop advertising
and promoting the SB Radio as a viable alternative to a bedside alarm.

I for one am canceling my order until version 2 of this product is
released. Maybe next time the wunderkinds in product design will get
the consumer input before beta or product release!

[SlimDevices: Radio] Power on question

2009-09-30 Thread Dermaplex

Hello,

Could someone tell me if it possible to automatically have the last
preset played when you power on the radio (like a real radio, as it is
claimed the the Squeezebox radio behaves like a real radio).

Should be nice in a bathroom when you power on the light (and this
powers on as well the power sockets) that the radio plays
automatically

Something tells me that this should not be so difficult to implement,
no?

Dx.

With respect to snooze buttons being for sissies - well, be that at it
may, this sissy doesn't always wake up immediately and builds those 9
minutes into the morning routine. Sounds as though I'm not alone in
this regard.

With respect to the lack of a snooze button being a fatal flaw, I
completely agree. It makes a great deal more sense that it would NOT be
on the Boom, but would be on the Radio. I'm trying to talk myself into
the kludge of pushing the volume button as an acceptable solution, but
it really isn't. Once (if?) the Radio has a dedicated snooze button on
top, count me as a customer.

The radios were not released from our dc's until yesterday morning. They
were held at the dc's until the software was ready to go.
Orders placed on www.logitech.com and Amazon.com should start shipping
today.
Our site www.logitechsqueezebox.com will receive our initial shipment
tomorrow and will begin shipping our pre-orders. We will be upgrading
the shipping for everyone who pre ordered.
Once we have units in our warehouse I will remove the pre-order status
from Radio.
Believe me we are all as anxious as you are to get these units out the
door.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Power on question

2009-09-30 Thread toby10

Yes, but removing power will require a complete Radio re-boot (guessing
around 60 seconds). But yes it will then start playing the station it
was playing when it was turned off (removed power).

In a more normal usage mode, the Radio will be turned off (actually,
standby) by pressing the Power button. Then simply pressing the Play
button powers on Radio (wakes from standby) and immediately plays the
last played station.

then allowed the urls to play.

In my case, it was on a Touch and a Radio

Good suggestion Dean. A bit of a hassle if it doesn't work, but worth a
try. It seems like a great device, so worth a try. I was mostly thrown
off the scent when it sounded as though I could inadvertently cancel the
alarm, rather than invoke a snooze, with the big button.

Anyway, it's compelling enough to give a try.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Does this new model have a auto-sleep button?

2009-09-30 Thread Milhouse

Considering I would have bought the Radio over the internet it's too
much of a risk and simply too much hassle to buy it only to find the
knob is not an adequate replacement for a snooze button, so I'll be
waiting for the successor Radio II, or buying an alternative to replace
my decrepit Sony FM radio/alarm with it's honking big - and well used -
snooze button.

I'd love to have bought a Logitech Radio but I don't see why I should
take a leap of faith and potentially waste money on return shipping (and
yet more on re-stocking fees) over something so basic/obvious as a
snooze button on a product designed for use in as a bedside alarm.

I genuinely believe Logitech will lose a ton of sales over this design
oddball decision. :(

The fact it has to be pointed out explains why sales will be lost -
people expect a dedicated snooze button on a bedside alarm, usually on
top where it can get slapped several times each morning...

Twiddling a knob in the morning might work (ahem) but unfortunately I
have no intention of putting myself into a position where I have to ship
the Radio back to the retailer at my own cost should I find it doesn't
work for me. It will be interesting to read the experiences of those who
do give it a try though.

Hello and welcome to the Forum.

Just exactly how would the Forum answer this question? How would
Logitech answer this question? The unit has been released by Logitech
and just needs to work its way down the distribution chain. I can't
answer this question either but I can tell you how it probably works.

One makes a pre-order. The order goes into a queue. Amazon will receive
inventory from Logitech's distribution chain. They will bill the credit
cards in the pre-order queue and ship out Squeezebox Radios.

So as a partial answer it depends on when Amazon receives its stock and
where ones pre-order is in the queue and how far away one lives from
where they ship from. So I will take a SWAG that one might get it in the
next two weeks.

On a side note, one should have ordered from Logitech because they are
going to ship first and they usually give some sort of free speedy
shipping on pre-orders.

Get this. I have the Radio on my desk along with the Touch and am
playing with the IR remote input on the Touch. Both players are

If it does something silly I just reach over and stop playback, turn it
off or pull the power plug.

But then out of the corner of my eye I notice these cool photos being
displayed on the Radio's screen. Somehow I'd gotten into the flickr
app's Interesting Photos. Neat stuff. Viewed from about 4 feet away it
looks much better on the little screen than I would ever have expected.

Nope. Boom ships with a 12v adapter but Radio is designed for 18v, and
needs 18v to charge the optional battery pack (and presumably you'd void
