Unfortunately the landscape orientation of the display is not really
suitable to display a square image together with two rows of text above
and a status bar below, you will always have either unused space or the
edges cut off. It should be configurable to what you like better.

That's rubbish :( I'd prefer too small to too big, when you say it
should be configurable to what you like better is that a fact, if so,
where do I change this or is that a I wish it could be configurable

Sorry, I could be reading it too literally. :D

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] 2 questions about album art

2009-11-12 Thread MrSinatra

u need to first concentrate on getting the right art put together.

here is what i suggest:

all your music should be in some kind of logical folder order, ie:

root\music\artist\album\

and then you need one jpg in the album folder. ie: Folder.jpg

i would not use embedded art, meaning art in the file. but if you do,
it has to be in each file on the album.

how do you get the art? use google image search, or a pgm like bliss,
many apps get art one way or the other.

Thanks Sinatra,

So let me get this clear in My Music currently I have loads of folders
(and individual songs) but I could have 3 folders for three albums by
the same artist in there such as Daft Punk - Homework, Daft Punk -
Discovery, Daft Punk - Live in Berlin.
Instead, I should have one folder called Daft Punk and in there the
three album folders?
Is that right? Will that make a lot of difference as it's quite a lot
of work? Should any individual songs also be in those folders as that
would be horrible!!

Then get rid of irrelevant jpg files (back covers/CD covers) which only
leaves me with one file. Rename that file to folder.jpg.

please understand my advice is what i consider to be best practices
but others may disagree. however if you follow it it will work good for
just about every app, including SBS.

in any case, yes, i would have my folders as:

root\music\Daft Punk\Homework\
root\music\Daft Punk\Live\
root\music\Daft Punk\Discovery\

and if i had random DP songs, then you could create

root\music\Daft Punk\random\

obviously put the right files (songs) in the right folders, and put
Folder.jpg in each folder. also put a copy of each Folder.jpg in there
in case anything happens to the original.

SBS used to have a place where you could specify the artwork filename
SBS should use. it might still have that, its been a long time since i
looked. its in the settings somewhere, and should be set if there.

while this may be a lot of work, in the long run it'll be worth it for
you.

u can keep other art in the folder, no problem. you just want to
specify to SBS the right filename to use for display, (its a global
setting).

i don't embed images for a number of reasons, like the work involved,
wasted space, the hassle of making changes, and the tax on the SBS

its just easier to have a single standalone jpg in a folder to deal

For me it's not a big deal to have separate controlled brightness for
all the different player states you mention.

Yeah, completely agree on a minimum brightness when an alarm goes off.
Not only to see the time but also to help navigate the buttons for
snooze etc..
My idea for user controlled brightness per screen is because 25%
minimum brightness may work for you, but the next person may want 50%.

which files does the wedding singer show as the art for? the top level

could you have mistakenly embedded the wedding art in files? embedded

also make sure after you think you have things correct you do a full

I've only used MP3Tag on 3 albums and embedded the image on them. These
3 albums work perfectly. So I don't think it's that.
I could however (if MP3Tag allows it) clear the album art tag off all
of the albums so it only looks at the jpgs..?

The wedding singer appears for the songs within the albums folders.
This is only on the SB and the softsqueeze.

If I look at the folders in Windows Explorer in thumbnail view, they
have their own (and correct) album art appearing.

Any news on this issue?

I especially asked for this functionality before buying the unit and
was being told by logitech that it would work the way i need it (see
beginning of this thread). It was a major buying point for me which is
even after several weeks not being addressed. The only thing i can see
is that the bug states to be resolved in 7.4.x. But all infos on this
forum say that there is not going to be another official 7.4.x version.
So when is this major issue going to be resolved or do i have to return
the Radio because it doesn't fulfill its official specs and so is
useless for me?

Thanks in advance for any news!

It becomes a slippery slope to how much user customization you want and

For example, I would like three choices when the alarm goes off;

1. Snooze
2. Disable Alarm
3. Disable Alarm - keep playing radio

I have not put in an enhancement request for this because it's small

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Alarm only works when connected to mysqueezebox?

2009-11-12 Thread jmhusson

I also bought a Squeezebox Boom to wake up my wife 3 days a week and
didn't succeed to have it work (I even returned the first device and got
an other one under warranty with the agreement of Logitech Hot Line).

1/ There are 3 ways to set up the alarm: SB server, mysqueezebox, front
panel. Most of the time, the alarm setup vanished although no further
action is made (no reset, no unplug, no other setups...) whatever way
would be used.

2/ My network works perfectly fine (I am a professional software
developper and i work at home), when we are lucky, we get get the beep
sound (even with a wired ethernet connexion and a fixed IP address),
very often we get nothing: no more alarm in the parameters.

I think i tried all the combinations of connecting (wifi, wire) to a
server (local SB server, mysqueezebox) with an alarm programmed through
one of the three interfaces. From time to time, I get it working
(especially in test condition: alarm to fire 10 minutes after) but most
of the time it just disappears.

Just because of remark #1, I am pretty sure there is a bug somewhere in
the alarm module and many people seem to encouter difficulties with this
function.

Does Logitech recognize there is a bug in there ?
Is somebody working on it ?

This cynicism is not justified. Rechargable batteries tend to go boom if
mishandled. The engineers say that the package includes a
micro-controller and sensors to detect heat and charge rate, and make
adjustments to optimize battery life.

Its not just eight random AA rechargeable battery units.

and as long as you have it in a folder per album, all will work as

How do I find out if a song is sharing a folder image then?

i'm not sure if i'm not understanding you or you aren't understanding
me, but SBS assumes that ANY art it finds belongs to ALL the files in a
folder, regardless of anything else. (the only exception is if a given
file happens to have embedded art as well, then that would supercede)

2009-11-12 Thread toby10

Not a fix, but a workaround: Bypass the MySB login section on the
Radio, connect the Radio to your SBS running on your computer. This
should register the player on MySB.com for you.
Assuming you are running SBS and have your MySB login credentials on
SBS Settings MySqueezeBox

What firmware versions are on your 2 radios?

if you don't see settings, press and hold the (back) button till you
see the settings menu item.

Sorry I think it might be me, I hadn't appreciated that SB will look
for any art files in the folder, even if it's the top level My Music
folder. So all the thousands of songs in there that do not reside in an
album folder could then get whatever jpg is in there. Am I right?

Well... There is only one jpg file that resides in there (and it was
hidden) and it is... (drum roll)... Sly The Family Stone - Hot Fun In
The Summertime
So the Wedding singer must be somewhere else, I even checked in the
Wedding Singer folder and there is no actual image in there, it looks
like it's embedded.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Fall back alarm

2009-11-12 Thread ronbo

Hello all. first post so be gentle with me. Is there any way to lower
the volume of the fall back alarm on radio. I set alarm on sbs and
server/pc failed in night. Nearly hit roof when fall back fired. Tried
to simulate this during day (setting alarm and then shutting down pc)
and got same result, some really funky tune at full blast. really
enjoying radio and boom .(apart from changing bedsheets)

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Status of radio battery?

 This cynicism is not justified.

It's justified to me. I'm an engineer.

Rechargable batteries tend to go boom if
 mishandled.

No, they really don't. Maybe you're thinking of defective Lithium
cells that expanded during a charge cycle. You know, the big Sony
battery fiasco of a couple of years back. NiMH and NiCd are very stable
and I've not heard of any instances of them causing any issue when not
in use, while being handled. Maybe dumped into a fire. In charging
they're also very robust if your charger is designed and built well.

The engineers say that the package includes a
micro-controller and sensors to detect heat and charge rate, and make
 adjustments to optimize battery life.

That's not what it said in the other post. And it would be a very bad
design to include a micro-controller in the battery pack as opposed to
the charger (in the radio). What was said is that the packs contain a
thermistor and a fuse. The thermistor, reporting back the temperature of
the cells, is one way to tell when the charge cycle has completed. It's
not the only way to tell and there are some nice charging ICs out there
that can do fine without one.

BTW, the packs contain 10 cells.

The big danger with an open bay accepting standard AA cells is that
someone might put an incompatible chemistry cell into the compartment.
Such as dumping in 1 or more alkalines. There exist ICs that can
detect alkalines and prevent a charge current - though I'm not sure if
there are any available that can deal with 10 cells at one time.

Its not just eight random AA rechargeable battery units.

No, it's 10 regular NiMH AA cells wired in series with surface mounted
thermistor and a few other bits of wire, then wrapped in black plastic,
perhaps even heat shrink tubing.

Logitech have used standard AA cells in the past for things like mice,
while including a warning not to insert regular (or any other)
batteries.

Anyway, I'm not a fan of proprietary packs where they can be avoided,
especially if they're just going to use regular sized cells (ie. the
dimensions don't warrant something custom or less common). But as
mentioned, what gets me the most is the extra cost and the fact it's
bundled with a remote. These are streamlining/logistical measures and
I'm sure Logitech will do fine with them. It doesn't mean I have to
like it or a agree with it.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] 2 questions about album art

2009-11-12 Thread erland

Could you list some directories where you have files that have incorrect
album art ?
Could you list the image files available in each of these directories
?

Does the problem only affect songs which don't have an ALBUM tag ?
