If $149 is the new retail price they are going to sell a lot of units.

Not really: I still think at $200, the radio is a steal: don't tell
whoever sets prices that, though. At $149 it's a great deal.. if I had
a decent excuse for buying another SB (I'm running out of rooms!), I'd
pick up another radio.

[SlimDevices: Radio] How to Switch from SBS to MySB?

If I've just listened to my local server and now have switched to

you are using XP?

you see the wrong cover art on icons of folders in windows explorer?

you have hidden, system files available to view?

if so, somewhere either in the folder or its parent, there is a

wow, never was addressed as 'sir' :)

Um - you should just put in your town and country like 'Berlin,
Germany', 'London, England'.
In the original thread of the plugin you will also find a small
discussion about possible values for US cities (but most likely 'city,
state' will be sufficient).

If you put it in the search box at www.wunderground.com and it finds
something that looks like your weather, it will be fine :)

I still have my problems understanding what you are doing.
I read that when you go to the applet-installer then you the the
Weahter-Applet there. When you click it you see "current (0.4)" or
"install (0.4)" which sounds as if you successfully installed the applet
already.
Good !

As this is a screensafer now the last step is to activate it as a
screensafer.
Go to Settings->Display->Screensafer (um - I'm not at home, but I think
that was the path) and most likely choose the Not-Playing-Screensafer.
There you will find the Weather-Screensafer and can activate it.

Not just wait a moment and you should see some Weather.
As you most likely don't want to see the weather from Berlin, you can
also configure your locations. This is also possible under
Settings->Display-Screensafer.

Your server doesn't need to be on to use this applet. After installing
it just works fine on the radio alone.

I certainly voted.

This works great on the Boom -- which is why I brought it up.

After I set my first alarm on the Radio, with the power off, I pressed
the dedicated alarm button, assuming that when off it would show the
next alarm.

Seems like a natural thing to me: using the alarm button to display the
next alarm.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio on Sale

2009-11-16 Thread ajkidle

I picked one up for $149 last night at the "Members Only Event" at my
local Best Buy, which is the obvious marketing ploy you think it is. No
abnormal sales or promotions that I could discern. But what really
irked me was that Best Buy has buried the Squeezebox line. After
searching the audio department, I finally broke down and asked an audio
sales clerk where the Squeezebox stuff was. "It's in computers" was the
response. Odd. Also wrong. The Slingbox line was in computers.
Squeezebox was actually hidden in the far back corner of audio, with a
shabby falling-apart display (only took my 20 minutes to find.)
Meanwhile the ugly Sony "whole house music system" was promoted front
and center.

Very discouraging to see a superior product line like Squeezebox given
such poor placement. Makes me wonder if the Logitech - Best Buy
relationship is strained. Or maybe Sony is putting up big $ to be
prominently featured. Either way it's sad.

Incidentally, the Radio rocks. Was surprised by how small it is.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Does Radio Support WOL to Server?

2009-11-16 Thread Apesbrain

Answered my own question: Yes, the Radio will send a WOL to server. It
just can't do it the first time it connects to your local server because
(duh-slaps forehead) it doesn't know enough to do so. Your server has
to be powered up for the Radio to find it and confirm it is the place
you want to be attached.

Next question: If I've just listened to my local server and now have
switched to Rhapsody, does the Radio know the server is no longer needed
and let it shut down? Or, how do I manually switch Radio source from
server to network? I'd prefer my server to go back to standby if its
not needed.

Thank you, it's a pretty good new for me !
I will try when I receive my Squeezebox and let you know if everything
is OK for me.

Thanks again !

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] internet radio format support

2009-11-16 Thread bpa

Both those station (e.g. nostalgie 92.9 ) play OK on an SB3 connected to
mysqueezebox.com (i.e. they have http streams).

If you are using the SBS Internet Radio (i.e. Radiotime) option to find
the station URL - then WMA will nearly ALWAYS be shown as mms and so it
is not a definitive way to check whether a station is actually using
mms.

The SB Radio is one great little box, isn't it?

The general consensus (no actual inside information) is that your
product suggestion for a Boom replacement is likely coming. Color LCD
screen, almost certainly. Improved acoustics, would be great but I'm
not sure they could make it any better than it is without enlarging the
Boom's enclosure. HDMI, not likely as it would add little benefit to a
portable music player.

Big question is when we might see a Boom II (assuming one is coming at
all)? My money is on summer to fall 2010. :)

That's a great deal regardless of the source!
$149 for the SB Radio + $49 battery (when available) gives you a great
portable player for $200.
Grab them!! :)

Thank you to answer so quickly !

If you have some free time, you can try the French Internet radios by
searching in : Internet radios / World / Countries : France / Towns :
Lyon (which is my town currently) and then trying "Europe 1" or
"Nostalgie" (or other radio stations, as most of thems have "mms"
streams...).

Let me know your test results.

First, http and mms are not mutually exclusive - often station give a
mms URL and in fact they support both mms and http. It would best to
post the URLs of the stations so that they can be checked they are
exclusively mms.

I would find it very strange that a station change would from http to
mms given that mms is not supported in newer version of Windows (and new
versions of Windows Media Player) - it would imply the stations have
reverted to either an old version of Windows or some other 3rd party
platform.

Hello to all,
I just ordered a Squeezebox "classic" (not yet received...), and I am
afraid now as I understand that mms radios are not supported by this
equipment ! In fact, I am French, and most of French popular radios
(that I want to listen in another European country) are streamed using
mms protocol... Some of them have recently switched from http to mms,
and I suppose they are not going to change again in the coming period !
Is there a solution for me, or shall I return my Squeezebox back to the
supplier and consider buying a competitor product supporting mms radios
?

Thank you for your help and advices.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] 2 questions about album art

2009-11-16 Thread jamesg1979

Thanks Sinatra.

My weekend has been immensely frustrating and satisfying in equal
measures!
I have now sorted my folder structure out, have art work for the
majority of albums (still a work in progress) and no rogue artwork
appearing on random songs (like the Wedding Singer).

Whilst this was a tough and long job, it was well worth it and MP3Tag
absolutely made this task loads easier - anyone else reading this and
considering sorting your music out, think the whole process through
first otherwise you'll end up giving yourself a headache like I have!

The only strange thing is that when you look at the My Music folder in
thumbnail view when you're in My Documents, the wedding singer is still
the main image! I don't mind as now all my songs are in their respective
artist folders, but it's still strange and doesn't seem to be a way to
change it.
I can live with it though.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Display next alarm

2009-11-16 Thread bluegaspode

I like this idea !
My wife turns the alarm off every weekend, because she just sees the
'alarm on' icon, and doesn't want to look into every alarm if it is
disabled for the weekend.
Showing day+time of the next alarm would solve this.
