These stations have moved to a Flash/Audio stream which requires a
Flash player to play them. If they are using the encrypted Flash/Audio
protocol then there is nothing legal that Logitech (or any 3rd party
plugin developer) can do. These stations do not want you to listen on
any device except through their Flash based (usually PC) player - you
should complain to the stations as loss of listeners is where it hurts
them.

The possible solution is if the station can be played on
iTunes/iPhone/iTouch. Since these devices do not support Flash there
is a hidden URL used to play the station on the iPhone/iTouch - get
iTunes to show that URL and then use it to get SB player to play the
station.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio Station not available?

Yeah, Clear Channel it is. I am having the same problem with local
stations here in Houston (The Buzz, The Arrow, AM stations, etc). Yours
and mine are all owned by Clear Channel.

Started about two nights ago. Everything with them stopped working.
They are probably the biggest station operator in Houston. The only
stations I listened to were these stations...Awesome.

Come on Logitech...Big time stations are making a move and you need to
keep up with them. Figure it out and fix it.

Here's why they should fix the problem:

There are prospective customers (such as me) who have been researching
the Squeezebox radio, and who think it sounds fantastic except for two
things: lack of battery (apparently in the process of being rectified)
and the firmware situation.

I have been checking both the Amazon reviews and this forum every few
days, waiting to see that both of these problems have been resolved,
and when that happens, I plan to place an order for two of them, one
for me and one for my wife.

I would really love to have one of these things, because 95% of my
music listening these days is to internet streams (radio or Pandora
mostly) and I don't like having to sit in front of my computer all the
time. I'd love to be able to carry the music around the house with me.
But I'm not pulling the trigger until I know I won't get a buggy
product (and I want a battery pack too, for the above-mentioned
portability).

I seriously doubt that I'm the only one in this position. Logitech
should absolutely fix this issue ASAP.

(And yes, I did actually go to the trouble of creating a forum account
so I could post this. I hope someone from Logitech reads it.)

No, the Radio does support AAC natively.
But as bpa points out the station you are trying to play comes from
RadioTime and MySB does not currently support AAC playback from
RadioTime feeds.
How & why this is I don't know.
My guess is that the RadioTime AAC feeds are in a format that MySB
cannot currently deal with (like the url form that bpa suggests).

So I guess to play AAC via MySB requires some sort of special
formatting or handling that MySB can't deal with. :(

Yeah, true. That's why I wonder if this could not be made to support

This is not quite correct.

MySB supports AAC streaming if the URL is provided as a Favorite or
other means such as SomaFM App (last entry in menu enables users to
pick the AAC version of SomaFM streams) or iPlayer App plays BBC AAC
streams.

At present the MySB does not support AAC using RadioTime.

Yes - I think I just had completely the wrong password for the original

Dunno, but I'd guess not very likely to be fixed.
MySB (and all prior versions of MySB) has never supported AAC
streaming.
But it sure seems like more and more stations are going the AAC route
so maybe this should be addressed by Logitech, assuming it can do
anything about it.

Until last fall no SB player supported AAC natively so it was kinda
pointless to offer AAC streams via MySB.
But now the new players do support AAC and more stations are going AAC.

May 14th Update

This is my reply from Logitech with regard to my Request for a schedule

exactly as long as it takes to solve the issue."

My response Follows:

Dear Customer Support,

I have just received a Logitech Customer Care Survey Ref# 100508-000743
with regard to your answer to my question stating that my experience
with Logitech Support MATTERS GREATLY to them. I have not answered the
response at this time because I did not find your answer satisfactory
and I would much rather say something POSITIVE about my experience and
hope that you can further investigate the schedule for me.

I recently requested a schedule for issuing new software and repairing
the current problem that many of your loyal customers have been
infected with. Let me remind you that Logitech has a legal
responsibility to repair this problem, much like Toyota has with their
sticking gasoline pedal in their cars her in America.

Now, if you don't know the answer, then you are surely NOT able to
expose anything! What I am asking you to do is to check with your
superiors and give me some sort of an idea about how much time this
damage to my Squeezebox Radio will take to repair. The damaging
Logitech Software v. 7,5.0 was distributed on April 6 and disabled a
lot of my enjoyment with my Squeezebox radio. For 5 weeks, I have not
complained about my problems while expecting repairs to the April 6st
damage would be coming any day from Logitech.

Please check with your superiors and let me me know when I MIGHT be
able to expect a repair and I will follow up with a positive Customer

[SlimDevices: Radio] Radio Station not available?

2010-05-14 Thread Texas97

I bought my SBR a couple of weeks ago, got it this week and have been
playing around with it. I am very happy with it. It is pretty cool.
I was amazed how well it synced to my iTunes on my laptop.

Ok so here is my question. Before I bought it, I really wanted to
listen to some of the local stations (I live in Austin). My favorite
radio station in town is KVET 98.1. Before buying this product, I
looked on the squeezebox website and checked to see if 98.1 was
available. It was according to the website search page (gave me the
green check mark). I got it and it worked great. Even got my radio
station.

Last night, however I could not pick it up via internet radio. It
isn't showing on the list of locals when I go to "internet radio". I
went to the squeezebox website and now it is saying that station is not
available? I know for a fact it was available before I bought it via
their website. Could it have dropped off in 2 weeks? That seems
strange. Plus it worked 2 days ago.

Here is where it gets even more strange. I noticed that when I had my
laptop on and I was connected to it, if I went to "internet radio" it
is showing up on my local list. But if I turn off my laptop and hop
back on mysb.com it drops off.

Any thoughts?

I have this same issue. I have a laptop so it is not running all the

out. I wish I saw this 2 days ago...

But to switch from mysb.com to my computer, I just click on MyMusic and
then it asks if I want to connect to my laptop.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Auto-dimmer

2010-05-14 Thread frb63

I have now successfully rolled back to FW 7.4.1 after installing
squeezebox server (thanks for the help, Toby!).

The internet streams are MUCH more stable, though there is still an
occasional drop-out within the first 30 seconds of play.

The alarm is still buggy - comes on then stops almost immediately, but
thankfully it no longer goes to that busy disco loop.

Here's an issue I haven't seen mentioned: under 7.4, the auto-dimmer
works perfectly in a dark room, but the display also lights back up
slightly when you use the controls (i.e. change the station, set the
sleep function, etc). Then about 30 seconds after your last adjustment
it dims again.

This was an EXTREMELY useful feature. Under 7.5, once the screen dims
it stays dim and you really can't see what you're doing. I have
literally had to turn a lamp back on in the room just to operate the
radio.

Has anyone else noticed this loss of functionality?

[SlimDevices: Radio] "Wrong" MySB.com on Radio

2010-05-14 Thread agbagb

Just added an SB Radio to one of my systems, and it's working fine (I'm
very impressed!).

But, for some reason during initial set-up I couldn't connect to my
existing MySB.com account (which is working fine on other parts of the
system). In order to complete set-up, I created a new MySB.com
account, and can connect to that fine.

But what I now want to do is back up, delete that new account, and get
to my existing account (on which I have stored a whole bunch of
favorites). I've fiddled with the Radio menus, and just can't see
where I can switch the MySB.com accounts. (I suspect that, on forst
try, I was having "password issues"!)

Pointers gratefully received.

With links in posts use Right click on mouse and "copy link address".
Copy & past will copy what appears on the screen which is a short
version of the link and has "..." in it.

My link is a playlist which has 3 URLs including the port 80 one as the
first link. This means port 80 can sometime be congested. You should
try to copy the playlist URL I posted as that has 3 different links to
cope with congestion.

Well as the OP, I just want to thank you all.

I really don't know how this stuff works but I first tried to
copy/paste the url that bpa mentioned, but that was no good. I then
double clicked the link itself, it downloaded a pls file and then
iTunes started up and WTMA started to play an mp3 stream. I then
grabbed the url from iTunes (http://208.80.52.118:80/WTMAAMAACCMP3)
entered it into my favorites and WTMA is playing through my SB Radio.

So, I don't know why or how, but thanks.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Lost WTMA a Citadel station

2010-05-14 Thread bpa

The issue
SBS asks RadioTime for an URL something like this

Code:

http://opml.radiotime.com/Tune.ashx?id=s23196&formats=aac,ogg,mp3,wmpro,wma,wmvoice,real&partnerId=16

Whereas I think MYSB probably asks RadioTime with an URL like this -
ensuring no transcoding for SB3 class of players.

Code:

http://opml.radiotime.com/Tune.ashx?id=s23196&formats=mp3,wma,wmvoice&partnerId=16

The other formats that might require transcoding have been dropped in
the "formats" option.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] 2 SB and one PC playing in sync

2010-05-14 Thread zimmer62

I was able to get it in sync with two different PC's, a radio a duet,
and the control for the duet.

Now... that was just once.

The next time I tried it, one of those PC's would not sync right, it
was always about 500ms ahead or behind no matter what I tried... The
other PC seemed to only sync well when it was using the headless
version of the software player. There are settings on the squeeze
server that let you adjust the timing of each client. I had to fiddle
with those a bit to get it right, and I wouldn't expect it to always
work with the same settings.

Figuring out where the latency issues are occurring might help, are
they the sound card buffer, driver, os mixing etc... So many factors
might be at play which is why the hardware versions sync better.

I've thought about trying a USB sound card passed through to a linux
guest os running on vmware server to see if that could create a more
stable timing issues on different PC's but I'm not worried enough about
it yet.

I wouldn't say never, but you would have to be very very lucky to be
one of the that gets perfect sync with a software player. That said, if
the pc is far enough away from the other players that you can't hear
them both at the same time, you could probably live with it. But if two
out-of-sync players are within earshot of one another it will surely
drive you insane.

A bit more info. I suggest looking at SqueezePlay. You can download the
latest version from here:
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.5. This can be
configured to look just like the radio interface so you will be
familiar with the interface. Try installing it and then let us know if
you have any questions or are ready to try and synchronise.

Why should they help us out?

1. They have your money already.
2. Their update works fine in their other devices.

Based on the responses I've received from the "support" team they don't
think they have a problem. Whether that's just the public line or
reality, I don't know.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] 2 SB and one PC playing in sync

2010-05-14 Thread Mnyb

The sync between hardware and software players would never be perfect
anyway...

But basically your squeezeboxserver does not put out sound the player
does, so on a PC you need one of the software players running.
These software player then conects to your server just like any other
player on your network. Yes you can have software players on all your
PC's not only the one that runs the server.

SqueezePlay.
SoftSqueeze.
SqueezeSlave.

These will behave almost like real players via the web-UI or
controllers and simulate a player interface on the desktop.

Except for SqueezeSlave that runs in the background, not seen on the
desktop only via the web-UI or controller.

I think the issue is within MySB.com rather than RadioTime as mysb.com

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] 2 SB and one PC playing in sync

2010-05-14 Thread Chunkywizard

A couple of questions. Are you running SqueezePlay on the PC? What
version? Are you running SqueezeBoxServer on the PC or do you want to
sync MySqueezebox? If it's the latter I believe you are out of luck,
but with SBS and Squeezeplay (an up to date build) I think this is
quite easy. Are both of your SB's Radio's? In which case start playing
SqueezePlay then go to the Synchronise menu on the SBR and chose to
syncronise with SqueezePlay. If that confuses you I can break it down
even further for you.

With the advent of the newer SB players capable of AAC native playback,
I wonder if RadioTime could update how they handle SB players.
The way it stands now, if you tell RadioTime you are using a SB device
then RadioTime assumes AAC playback is not possible.

Maybe they could further segregate SB players? Older and newer?

Maybe a check box to tell RadioTime to allow passing AAC streams?
"If you have one of the newer SB players (Touch or Radio) check this
box to play AAC streams when connected to MySB.com"
Note: Older SB players will NOT be able to play these AAC streams.

All I currently want is that they let us know that they acknowledge the
