So the missing features (above) are not a surprise. Please correct me if any of this is wrong. I don't want to be the bad guy spreading misinformation! Ok - I never changed snooze and alarm timeout (If you don't need to change them all the time, one can hack into the Touch and also change the values for the internal server once). Having iPad and Android phone I also never use the web-interface. That on MySB.com playlists can be used (and not on the Touches server) is new to me. So - given your requirements - yeah - the internal server lacks some feature for you, so right now the only two options are to go back to MySB.com and hope that Logitech fixes the alarm routines there - or upgrade to a full blown Squeezebox-Server (easiest route being the use of a featured NAS I guess) -- bluegaspode Did you know: *'SqueezePlayer' (www.squeezeplayer.com)* will stream all your music to your Android device. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] alarm defaults to DISCO all the time
Here is my experience with this problem. I hope that this info is useful. I bought a Squeezebox Radio in February of this year. I liked it so much that I bought a Squeezebox Touch later. Everything was working fine, until a few months ago. I experienced the problem documented in this thread. The frequency of this problem increased over a period of months. Presently, I experience the Disco problem every day. There was a suggestion in this thread to toggle alarms off and on every evening. This never worked for me. I found that power-cycling every evening did resolve the issue most of the time. What I mean is that I removed the power cord from my Squeeebox Radio and then reconnected it a few seconds later. I don't really care for this solution. For the last week, I have been using the Server that is embedded in my Squeezebox Touch. Logitech refers to this as the Touch Server. This piece of software takes the place of mysqueezebox.com. My Squeezebox Radio communicates with my Squeezebox Touch instead of the big server at mysqueezebox.com. The Touch Server has some significant missing features compared to the big server at mysqueezebox.com. But at least my Touch Server is working. How is it going with you guys? Did this problem go away by itself? If Logitech ever fixes this up, I would like to go back to using the big server at mysqueezebox.com. One step that I won't be taking is to file a bugzilla report. I see that several relevant reports have already been filed. They are resolutely ignored. -- arnstein arnstein's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=49953 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89650 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Either the fix that logitech have made at their server (perhaps preventing dropouts or off-time), or my constant de-enabling and re-enabling each night, are making the radio turn on, correct time, correct stream, including today. This period of correct behavior must now be 10 days or so. I have not yet had the courage to let it go without the de-enable/re-enable, and I might run this test next week sometime. One strange thing 2 mornings ago: the alarm came ON fine, but did not turn OFF after the predetermined 1 hour setting. Wondered if their server is still suffering 'brown-outs' or full off periods, as a potential explanation. -- chris.wri...@vanderbilt.edu chris.wri...@vanderbilt.edu's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=49071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89650 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] alarm defaults to DISCO all the time
Fine that it is working. The bugfix is for servers that don't keep their time by themselves (running to slow). Users typically don't realize, because their server corrects the time each hour against a timing service on the net. The SBS server just counts down the seconds until the next alarm is due and without the patch it does not realize that the servers clock is changed all the time by small amounts. This is why the server will typically triggers the alarm too late (and the Radio keeping its own time decided to sound the fallback earlier). You need to register on bugzilla (the page of the bug report), then you can post a comment. There is also a checkbox to vote for it. You will then also be notified if someone else comments on the bug or when Logitech decides to fix it. -- bluegaspode Did you know: *'SqueezePlayer' (www.squeezeplayer.com)* will stream all your music to your Android device. Hi ricou, your server is triggering the alarm correctly. The one day where the alarm did not work the radio stream just wasn't fast enough to start playing. So the first thing I'd suggest is trying another radio stream if it gets more robust. Some more odd things I notice in the logs: - you are still running 7.5.1 firmware. You should be trying 7.6.1 - it contains some fixes against radio streams that need a bit longer to start. - the date in the log is from January. You should check your server to have the correct date set -- bluegaspode Did you know: *'SqueezePlayer' (www.squeezeplayer.com)* will stream all your music to your Android device. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] alarm defaults to DISCO all the time
mentioned that it was a problem with MySB not sending a signal to enable the stream to play, and that was causing the fallback alarm to trigger. agreed that the workaround that was suggested by bluegaspode (I think I remember correctly) would be the standby. Before retiring each night, either just 'hit the big button' or deliberately un-enable and then re-enable the alarm, and that this should cause it to work for the next morning. Do this every night, and this could get me through to the 'soon' arriving new engineered update that is being done to address several 'big bugs', including this well-known alarm-signal one. the other workaround would be to have it operate through a local computer with the server software (I believe I remember that as correct) in my home. I have not got it set up that way, only using connection through a router to MySB.com, so it seems I will do that annoying button-push workaround, and hope that 'soon' is not quoted with reference to the geologic timeframe. -- chris.wri...@vanderbilt.edu chris.wri...@vanderbilt.edu's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=49071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89650 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

thanks for that last message bluegaspode...and for the time to read and interpret that file. on the days that the signal is missing to play the desired stream, is there still a signal sent to play 'a default alarm' or is that controlled from within the Radio unit itself? A signal for an alarm could not be absent completely on the 26th, if the default disco loop activated at 6.43, could it? thanks - Chris. -- chris.wri...@vanderbilt.edu chris.wri...@vanderbilt.edu's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=49071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89650 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

chris.wri...@vanderbilt.edu;653353 Wrote: A signal for an alarm could not be absent completely on the 26th, if the default disco loop activated at 6.43, could it? Yes, it could. The Radio simply keeps track of when the next alarm is supposed to occur. Its internal clock and some bits of software let it know the server should have already contacted it to ring the bell, and since it hasn't, the Radio will launch the fallback alarm. -- sebp 'Last.fm' (http://www.last.fm/user/sebp) sebp's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11768 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89650 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] alarm defaults to DISCO all the time
But be aware, the Radio itself only remembers the next alarm to be able to sound the fallback. If it sounded the fallback alarm and then for some reason cannot communicate with the server / MySb.com the next day it will keep silent when the server still fails to trigger the alarm because it does not know the next alarm time. So when one hears the fallback it's a good idea to enter the alarm time settings as well to make sure the Radio talks to its server properly at least once. -- bluegaspode Did you know: *'SqueezePlayer' (www.squeezeplayer.com)* will stream all your music to your Android device. Thanks - I will re-contact Logitech Tier 1 support and discuss these findings with them. will also try bluegaspode's suggestion of seeing if a '1-off command each day' will work at all. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] alarm defaults to DISCO all the time
with respect to bluegaspode's last comment, why is it that sometimes the radio can go for 3-5 days with the fallback alarm always activating on time, [and then spontaneously start working 'as instructed' with a stream]. -- chris.wri...@vanderbilt.edu chris.wri...@vanderbilt.edu's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=49071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89650 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] alarm defaults to DISCO all the time
There was one 'if' in my last statement ;-) Typically the Radio is able to connect to its server to synchronize the next alarm time at least once a day. Just wanted to note that after hearing the fallback it's good to be a bit more suspicious than under normal circumstances if one wants to make sure to be woken up the next day. -- bluegaspode Did you know: *'SqueezePlayer' (www.squeezeplayer.com)* will stream all your music to your Android device. I am going to try this: 1. Enable SSH on the Radio: Home Settings Advanced Remote Login Enable SSH 2. Identify Radio's IP address: Home Settings Advanced Diagnostic Wireless Network Info IP Address 3. Launch a terminal and type this command: Code: scp root@sb.radio.ip.address:/var/log/messages . [SlimDevices: Radio] alarm defaults to DISCO all the time
Squeezebox radio, connected wireless to Comcast router, no computer involved at my end. SELDOM turns on the selected radio station (Nashville NPR), but defaults to a terrible disco sound. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] alarm defaults to DISCO all the time
You are connected to MySB.com only? - did schedule the alarm directly on the Radio (and not MySB.com) ? - did you try a different radio station, maybe this one is not reliable ? - did you try a different time (some minutes before your actual time, 6:57 instead of 7:00) ? if these three things don't help you might want to download the log files from your Radio. In the advanced settings there is on option to enable remote access. With the program WinSCP you can then download the file /var/log/messages to your computer and attach it here. There will give us a more directed idea about what is the exact cause of the failure. -- bluegaspode Did you know: *'SqueezePlayer' (www.squeezeplayer.com)* will stream all your music to your Android device. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] alarm defaults to DISCO all the time
if i understand correct - you ask if I am only connected to MySqueezebox.com, and I believe I should say yes, as at home we have no computer connected and running all the time, just a wireless connection to MSB via my router (I try to keep simple at home, and complicated at work - sorry!) I do remember scheduling the alarm only on the Radio (and not MySB.com). I did not try a different radio station, most of the other ones are useless for me to wake to (and try to catch up with local and international news while still drowsy!). I have the alarm set for 6.45 am (weekdays) or 8.30 am (weekend). Should I try an even more 'off'-time? I would not even know how to start downloading the log files from my Radio. I am a Mac user anyway, so some of the advice (if you are patient enough with me) will not be able to be implemented by me. [Such as the WinSCP you mentioned.] With my gratitude - it has been bugging me for over a year now, over and over. -- chris.wri...@vanderbilt.edu chris.wri...@vanderbilt.edu's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=49071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89650 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
