[RBASE-L] - Re: (CVAL('ComputerName'))

2020-08-19 Thread Michael Byerley
copy to a file ending with .VBS like:

CompName.VBS

these lines:

Dim WshNetwork
Set WshNetwork = CreateObject("WScript.Network")
ComputerName = WshNetwork.ComputerName
msgbox(computername)

just double click the filename to run it. VBScript is STILL runable on any
windows box

I do #2 as a matter of routine, so a choice can be made based on the
current desire.

[RBASE-L] - Re: scaling dialog box

2020-07-17 Thread Michael Byerley

As Razzak said, customized form works nicely. You can pass values to the
form in the EDIT or ENTER USING command by using the CAPTION element. You
can put a string there to be parsed in the ON BEFORE portion of the opening
sequence with whatever separator you wish to use.

For Example, you might do: EDIT USING frmSomeForm Where SomeWhereClause
CAPTION 'CAPTION=This is my Custom Dialog Form#ReturnVarName=vRetSomeText'

using the # as the first separator and the '=' sign as to what to do to the
other elements.

Re: [RBASE-L] - Re: Running C++ code withe R:Base

2020-07-15 Thread Michael Byerley

That is exactly hard to say, but if the application structure
collects/queries the Access DB, then passes that to an internal function to
be returned to the real world (screen/printer, ect), then I would say, IF
the internal functions were EXPORTED, then maybe you could collect the data
from RBase directly and pass it to the EXPORTED function for action. It's
just hard to hypothesize, not knowing exactly what is going on.

2020-07-15 Thread Michael Byerley

javier, C, C++, or for that matter, any language capable of creating a
Win32 DLL, Most EXPORTED functions are callable within RBase, excluding
ones that require integers that are full 32 bit or 64 bit.

That was the purpose of DLCall. When the foreign DLL is introduced into
the address space of the RBase session, the EXPORTED functions are just a
functional as the native RBase functions.

[RBASE-L] - Re: Forms

2020-07-06 Thread Michael Byerley
OK, so long as myMainMenu has a component ID, just for the example
"frmMainMenu", then in the onAfter eep of myReportsMenu you can execute
Property frmMainMenu VISIBLE 'FALSE'

The myMainMenu and the myReportsMenu both have to be opened MDI and you can
muck around with the Property frmBlahBlah SET_FOCUS to move between as
needed, but anyway, in the OnClose event (EEP) of the myReportsMenu, set
the VISIBLE property back to "TRUE" if you want to return to that form.

I had a running example of this interaction with a timer form, but it is
more complex than this example, but you can execute code on a second form,
push buttons, whatever by using this method.

I'm sure you can get it going.

Re: [RBASE-L] - Need help with an Enhanced DB Grid

2020-06-25 Thread Michael Byerley

When I use a View for this, it is a TEMPORARY SINGLE TABLE VIEW.

The sequence is after the initial data is constructed and the Form is
opened:

1 If the data is changed then

  PROPERTY TABLE tvwSomeTempView 'CLOSE'
DROP VIEW tvwSomeTempView
CREATE TEMP VIEWtvwSomeTempView AS SELECT WhatEverColumns FROM
SomeBaseTableForTheVIEW +
WHERE SomeWhereClauseIfAny
PROPERTY TABLE tvwSomeTempView 'OPEN'

This is All I do. You could add REFRESH I guess, but I do not.

The reason escapes me, but several years back, the single table view
became the pathway I used without fail.

[RBASE-L] - Re: Line Feed/Carriage Returns in Report BLOB Fields

2020-06-05 Thread Michael Byerley

  Well from the Helpfile:

Special Character

Syntax: SET LINEEND = value

DOS Default: þ [Alt]+[0254]

Windows Default: ^

For all text that I want to display on multiple lines I use 0D0A.

At the beginning of each session I: SET VAR vCRLF = ((char(013)) +
(Char(010)))

That is used everywhere in my data.

So SETTINGS>CONFIGURATION SETTINGS>LINEEND and see which character is
there. Maybe you have a DOS holdover, which if so, a simple change to a
carat might give you some relief.

[RBASE-L] - Re: Varchar

2020-05-27 Thread Michael Byerley

Also, From the R> or from the Explorer menu, open the LANCQUEST table and
double click on the OBSDET column. This will open the data in the RBase
BLOB Editor(which is slightly different from the one displayed when you
double click varchar data in a form).

If you would please Toggle between the TEXT tab and the RICH TEXT tab at
the top, you will see the data, both with and without the formatting codes.

All those strange characters you were seeing was as the result of my error
causing some of the formatting codes to display in the form, which with the
correction I sent you should be OK now.

All that is required to make Rich Text is to be certain that a FILE has a
minimum number of components to make it a file. This would be the HEADER,
DOCUMENT and that these are described correctly, with the appropriate
balanced curly braces, which is what I accomplished in the example I sent,
which was based on the data you provided. If you create RTF from another
source other than RBase, then I cannot guarantee the same results, but so
long as you are working within RBase, everything should be OK.

Sorry. Copy and Paste error on my part. The math would've been wrong on
the amount of data extracted from the OBSTECH table.

Also, the example that I sent did use a CURSOR but as you likely have
deduced that if it is ONLY a single update, you can use parts of the code
to simply employ SELECT to populate your variables.

[RBASE-L] - Re: Varchar

2020-05-25 Thread Michael Byerley

Well RTF is NOT TEXT. The problem you are having is combining (or trying
to) TWO complete RTF files together, which you cannot do. Every RTF file
has its' own HEADER, BODY, etc, so when you try to combine the TEXTUAL
DESCRIPTION of the two files, you get an embedded HEADER from the second
file, which will not show up correctly.

I have written something here which is working based on the data you
provided, and which I also deduced was data that has been created within
the RBase environment as there are a couple things in the HEADER that I
don't see in something you might create in WORD or some other
wordprocesser. That is no concern as long as you continue to do it the way
you currently do.

If you change to combining something from an extraneous source, then you
will have to modify the program to fit the new or different parameters.

Also in the zip file is a link to a web page that shows you the file
structure of RTF 1.0 to RTF 1.5.

Hope this helps.
Mike

Re: [RBASE-L] - Re: Varchar

2020-05-22 Thread Michael Byerley
I cannot see all that you have done, but the following works for me.

*( Begin TEST CODE)

SET VAR vIdx INTEGER
SET VAR vc1 VARCHAR
SET VAR vc2 VARCHAR
SET VAR vc3 VARCHAR
SET VAR votherdata VARCHAR
-- I always use a variable to hold CARRIABE RETURN + NEW LINE instead of
Literal character when combining text.
SET VAR vCrLf TEXT = ((CHAR(031)) + (CHAR(010)))

DROP CUR c1

DECLARE c1 CURSOR FOR SELECT idx, colvc1 colvc2 FROM testvarchar +
WHERE idx = 2

OPEN c1
FETCH c1 INTO vIdx IND vIn0, vc1 IND vIn0, vc2 IND vIn0
SELECT cmddata INTO votherdata IND vIn0 FROM testcontvc WHERE cmdname =
'Startup'

WHILE SQLCODE = 0 THEN

  SET VAR vc3 = (.vc1 + .vcrlf + .vc2 + .vcrlf + .votherdata )
UPDATE testvarchar SET colvc1 = .vc3 WHERE CURRENT OF c1
--UPDATE testvarchar SET colvc1 = NULL WHERE CURRENT OF c1
  FETCH c1 INTO vIdx IND vIn0, vc1 IND vIn0, vc2 IND vIn0

ENDWHILE
DROP CUR c1

RETURN
*(End Test Code)

*( Explanation )
*( Table TestContVC contains VarChar Column containing value:
Startup
startup
SELECT

 Table TestVarChar has 4 columns:
IDX Integer, ColVC1 VarChar, ColVC2 VarChar, ColVC3 VarChar

 Cursor row IDX = 2
  ColVC1 = Jean-Marc Massé
  ColVC2 = 85510 ROCHETREJOUX
  ColVC3 = null

*It is IMPORTANT to declare ALL variables used BEFORE use in code. DO NOT
rely on RBASE to do type conversion for you for greatest reliability.

[RBASE-L] - Re: Varchar

2020-05-21 Thread Michael Byerley

OK, Excepting that your statement would work, but not consistent with
current structure:

SET VAR VDETREP VARCHAR = DETREP IN LANCQUEST WHERE NUMQUEST = .VNUMQUEST

Would be best restated as a SELECT clause like;

Set var vDetRep VarChar = null

Select DetRep into vDetRep ind Vin0 from LancQuest where NumQuest =
.vNumQuest

Using Select gives the opportunity throughout your system, of additional
checks for null when required, by checking the INDICATOR variable value.

[RBASE-L] - Re: Varchar

2020-05-20 Thread Michael Byerley

You can't grammatically add to a varchar data, but you can select the the
value from the primary table into a variable, then select the value to be
added into another variable, combine the two variables, then update the
primary table with the combined data.

So, if you had more than one instance of this to perform, you would have to
do it using a CURSOR, as an UPDATE using a SELECT combining two sources
will not work.

[RBASE-L] - Re: Bill Eyring

2020-05-10 Thread Michael Byerley

I only knew Bill from the RBase Conferences, but from the many kind words
expressed by others here, I am certain his family would be pleased to know
that Bill's mortality did not end with his passing, but lives on in the
memories of his R:Base friends and acquaintances that were occasioned by
him over these many years.

You can indeed combine select output with literal text on the same line.

Re: [RBASE-L] - capture just the decimal

2020-03-17 Thread Michael Byerley
Actually Buddy's way WILL do everything you want.

just add CTXT because even if it is already textual, it won't matter and
If the number is greater than zero, it has a decimal.

SET VAR vText TEXT = '3.14159'
SET VAR vrestxt = NULL

SET VAR vloc INTEGER = NULL

SET VAR vloc = (SLOC((CTXT(.vText)), '.'))

SET VAR vrestxt = ('decimal is at pos' & (CTXT(.vloc)))
PAUSE 2 USING .vrestxt

RETURN

--And if it is a number already it will test the same:
set var vNum Numeric (10,5) = 3.14159

SET VAR vrestxt = NULL

SET VAR vloc INTEGER = NULL

SET VAR vloc = (SLOC((CTXT(.vText)), '.'))

SET VAR vrestxt = ('decimal is at pos' & (CTXT(.vloc)))
PAUSE 2 USING .vrestxt

RETURN

I think Karen's idea will work OK as long as you do not have other
container components on it like Panels. I have used the Alpha Blend for
this purpose, but just for S & G, I tried it on a form with Panels, Tabs
and those remain visible, so...

You might first try changing the Quote setting just to check if it's QB
inflexibility between double and single quotes, which would be a very easy
fix.

Well you can probably ignore my info. A shallow dive into the QB forum on
IIF header formats shows that those samples are more than a decade old and
one frustrated user says he cannot even import an IIF file that was
Exported from QB. The culprit in his example is that the column
description character length is inaccurate so the import fails, further on
that example site, QB states they won't provide any support help for the
import or export of said IIF files.

I can see since the first row of the IIF contains the description of the
data, it couldn't be directly imported or at least the first row would
not. But just a quick scan of the information on the page and all of the
samples, seems like you should be able to get to a conclusion.

Again, you can use a single table temp editable view for the dbgrid.
while the form displayed, whatever mechanism you use to change your order

  Example code from one of my forms;

Re: Re[2]: [RBASE-L] - Aggressive String Manipulation Language

2019-05-16 Thread Michael Byerley
Wel IF you are already familiar with JavaScript/JScript, which has
a plethora of its functions carrying nomenclature from C, it would not be a
huge leap to become familiar with the language behing the GUI of RBase,
Delphi (pascal), which supports, i think, nearly all of C's functions.

The main difference to the casual observer is that Delphi/pascal has its'
code blocks demarked by "begin" / "end' keywords at the loctions you would
find curly braces in C or JavaScript/JScript.

It is not rocket science to create your library of string manipulation
routines in a Delphi DLL which is directly callable from within RBase using
the DLCall function. When using an external DLL in this fashion, it is
introduced into the same address space as RBase and behaves the same as an
internal RBase function.

I don't think the underlying language in which Windows itself is written
(C++, C) is going to go the way of the dinosaurs anytime soon. If you are
going to need string manipulation in a web environment, then this approach
is probably less favorable, but in Windows, it is a good fit.

When you are printing from the window dialog, there isn't an RBase event

Re: [RBASE-L] - LISTOF question 10.0.4.10913

2018-10-30 Thread Michael Byerley

One limitation though is from testing, the CAPTION string in RBase forms
is limited to 1023 characters. Windows forms can hold more than a 100K.
1023 Chars is still a fair amount, but If one were to desire to pass
more, it would likely have to be via a write to disk and subsequent
retrieval and execution. I guess I am kind of writing and thinking in
terms of passing "actual" object names, Propertes and values at runtime,
which if lengthy could consume a fair patch of 1K.

Re: [RBASE-L] - LISTOF question 10.0.4.10913

2018-10-29 Thread Michael Byerley

Go ahead and download the RBase Calendar from Here:

http://byerley.net/(S(syqysn45jp2uc3quom5gtl2t))/Download_A/RbCalendar.zip

1. Load the calendar into a non production database. You may find it
useful :)
2. Read the comments in the CalDemo.rmd file to see the valuelist that is
passed in the Caption String.
3. Look at the OnAfterStart EEP to see how the string is parsed, utilizing
the values passed.

Now taking a cue from that process, you could take a step further and make
each element of the string and instead of passing just a value to be used,
you could put Name / Value pairs in the following fashion:

EDIT USING rbcalendar CAPTION
'FormWidth=180,FormHeight=500,FormColor=red,ReturnVarName=,vRetDate,'

Then modify slightly the parsing method I used to a Switch/Endsw that could
track to the NAME half of the name value pairs passed, with the VALUE half
being consumed appropriately by PROPERTY, GETPROPERTY, or direct usage as a
var.

Re: [RBASE-L] - LISTOF question 10.0.4.10913

2018-10-28 Thread Michael Byerley

One further comment on this. You can blackbox the form solution in a
couple of ways, one being to put the form inside of a stored procedure so
you can call it from there,
then using property commands to change the table name and colum spec for
the listbox, or simply utilize the CAPTION string that is the argument of
Edit Using or Enter Using to contain an argument of the elements you want
to change in the onAfter start of the form.

If you have ever used my RBase form based Calendar, you will see its'
procedure there.

So by doing that, you could change the properties of the pseudo Choose
box on the fly, and reuse it anytime the need arises in lieu of having a
separate form for each problem.

Over the course of time since the humble 7.0, RBase has provided many
pathways to problem solution and when there is none apparent, there is
always a reasonably willing RDCC.. :)

  OK.

Here's a workaround then. In this Zipfile is an Rbase Form with a
UserDefinedListBox that behaves like a Choose. You will have to change the
table, Expression values, and Where clause to suit your needs. There's a
brief remark in the onAfter start EEP.

  guaranteed to work.. :)

RBase has many features, absent to one degree or another (at least in the
perspective of relative ease of access), from many other databases.

This example is just one of many such features.

Oh, and the same would go for the main exe of the program. Both can be
stored in the database and written to the db folder and executed from
there. Windows will search the folder from which an EXE is 'runned'..

[RBASE-L] - Re: Convert PDF to JPG

2018-09-14 Thread Michael Byerley

Karen,
You can store the DLL as a varbit in RBase and unfurl it to the database
directory or the directory in which your program operates, which will put
it in the normal windows search path. Doesn't have to be installed to each
local machine.

If you remember, Opportunistic record locking was an issue back in the days

disable it or to tune it to a particular need:

[RBASE-L] - Re: Date Chooser Dialog?

2018-04-17 Thread Michael Byerley

or you could use this that is an RBase Form that I wrote many years ago
and is still working reliably today. It allows for the Seeding of
Caption, Return Variable Name, and the Date for the initial display. This
is the Calling EEP:

*( Display calendar with:
  [Manditory]Caption = "Pick A Date"
  [Manditory]vRetDate = "NameOfReturnVariable"
  [Optional] 01/06/2002 = "TheSeedDateForInitialDisplay"
When Seed Date is ommitted, the Current Date is Defaulted
Note: 1. The return value is of type text, but you can edit the onExit EEP
of the form to change the return type as Date if you wish
 )
EDIT USING rbcalendar CAPTION 'Pick A Date,vRetDate,06/15/2005'
SET VAR vmsg = ('You Picked' & .vretdate)
PAUSE 2 USING .vmsg
CLEAR VAR vmsg
RETURN

[RBASE-L] - Re: Any way to have DIALOG pre-select the default text.

2018-01-12 Thread Michael Byerley

OR just use AUTOSELECT TRUE:)

The aforementioned solution I laid out works on a variety of edit boxes
other than DIALOG but when I originally used that solution the form timer
hadn't been implemented, so everything I mentioned applicable to the hidden
form, would work in a form timer EEP since it runs in its own thread.

2018-01-12 Thread Michael Byerley

The class of every edit box is not the same across all versions of RBASE so
you will need a utility (usually one is within the installation of advanced
language IDE) to obtain the classname of any edit box. There is still a
good one up on my site that was written years ago by Mike Sutton, a then
frequent contributor to the VB newsgroups.

Direct LInk to the Zipper:

Or the Page:

[RBASE-L] - Re: Any way to have DIALOG pre-select the default text.

2018-01-12 Thread Michael Byerley
The only way to do this is pretty messy.

I have done similar for a different purpose, but here goes:

In whatever procedure (separate, not IN-Line, like a custom action, etc)
that launches the dialog, you launch just before the dialog an MDI form
that is hidden (Alpha Blend 0, AND OR Top Left somewhere off screen. I
used Alpha Blend)

In that form, in the onAfter EEP start a while loop that keeps testing for
the presence of 'TFormDialog.UnicodeClass' which is the class name of the
current version of RBase Dialog Edit using the FindWindow and FindWindowEx
functions to Retrieve its' HANDLE. Here is an Example using Delphi but I
have had some success using these functions via the RBase DLCall command:

{Begin Delphi Code}
function GetMyWindow(): HWND;
var
GetWnd: HWND;
begin
  GetWnd := FindWindow('TApplication', 'R:BASE X Enterprise');
  if (GetWnd <> 0) then
begin
  GetWnd := FindWindowEx(GetWnd, 0, 'TFormDialog.UnicodeClass', 'Type
Caption Here ...');
  if (GetWnd <> 0) then
begin
  GetWnd := FindWindowEx(GetWnd, 0, 'TTntEdit.UnicodeClass', nil);
  if (GetWnd <> 0) then GetMyWindow := GetWnd;
end
end
end;

{End Delphi Code}

If it is a single line Edit box, then you have to use Windows API
'PostMessage' function to the window passing the EM_SETSEL constant along
with a couple other pertinent parameters (start and end position of the
selection) unique to the condidtion (you can find out using the MSDN
library on line for the function parameters)

'SendMessage' must be used if it is a multi-line edit box.

At this juncture, the edit box text will be highlighted.

In the hidden form, once the edit box is found and the Message is sent to
it, you can exit that loop and close the hidden form or send a CloseWindow
command to it.

That's it.

Alternately, ask nicely of RBTI for an enhancement that you can pass a
parameter to the DIALOG command to do this.

[RBASE-L] - Re: Trying to figure out IFF command

2017-09-25 Thread Michael Byerley
If nulls are to be evaluated in your expressions, you need to set ZERO ON:

Syntax: SET ZERO ON/OFF

Default: OFF

SET ZERO allows a null to be treated as a zero in a mathematical expression
involving INTEGER, NUMERIC, REAL, DOUBLE, CURRENCY, DATE, DATETIME, or TIME
data types. With ZERO set on, R:BASE returns a negative number when you
subtract an integer from a null. With ZERO set off, the same computation
results in a null. R:BASE stores the setting with the database.

Otherwise your expression will fail unless you are evaluating for a NULL
condition as in using IFNULL.

Sorry. Explain: Enclose each comparison in its own parentheses so it
evaluates properly. Order precedence. Then the two expressions evaluate
within their own parentheses within the quotations.

[RBASE-L] - Re: send keystroke

2017-08-25 Thread Michael Byerley

There is a hook procedure running in the other program. I expect you are
going to have to use windows SendMessage function to produce the Ctrl[F12]
sequence. Since it's a hook procedure, I suppose it's not going to be fussy
about the target since it's evaluating all keystrokes looking for the
Ctrl[F12].

I would begin by getting the handle of the window in which the text is
highlighted and use that as the target of the sendmessage function.

This would of course require the use of DLCall to enable such action.

INSERT does not use a Where clause UNLESS there is a qualifying SELECT
[which would base criteria on an entirely different table or condition to
limit whether the insert is to be done or not]

INSERT does just one thing by itself. it adds a row of data.

So it appears you could automate conversion. Irfanview has been in the

2017-06-15 Thread Michael Byerley
ahh... I have been using Irfanview for my Image viewer for so long, I just
assumed the graphic (which is what a basic PDF is, along with control codes
for the embedded fonts, etc) displayed the same in any viewer. Apparently
Irfanview figures out the graphic portion and displays it. I renamed a
dozen different pdf that are on my desktop with the same results, the ALL
open as a graphic in Irfanview.

[RBASE-L] - Re: From The Edge: Converting R:BASE for DOS to R:BASE X/XE for Windows

2017-05-05 Thread Michael Byerley

As an aid in converting legacy code that is still in *.APP form, I have a
stand alone EXE that I wrote many years ago that will open the *.APP file
and allow you to save One or All the command blocks to individual disk
files.

I wrote an RBL version that worked from within RBase, but it no longer
works with the current versions and I am insufficiently motivated to fix
it.. :)

I know John has used this app for many years and it is a time saver during
the conversion process.

Here's the Zipper with the app and the helpfile:

The RBase form calendar that I put the link was the evolution of many

enhancement to be provided a SEED date by the user, which makes it
palatable to call it twice in succession to get a date range and also to
call it anywhere else where a date picker would be handy.

Clearly there are many different avenues available for RBase users to
pursue thanks to the continued enhancement to the base product.

Dick,

You can download this RBase form based date picker, complete with example
RMD, which will allow you to open it with a Seed date and a couple other
features explained in the RMD file.

[RBASE-L] - Re: Compiler: How to read command line arguments.

2017-03-12 Thread Michael Byerley

The significant difference is that you MUST know the position of the string
you are relating to in the startup string.

Getting the whole string and parsing it yourself affords you the luxury of
adding to or deleting from the string with only having to deal with a
conditional statement to accommodate the change.

If the conditional statement would be encapsulated within a stored
procedure, there would likely only be one place that would require
maintenance other than the particular place the conditional statement was
directed.

RBase certainly gives you the ability to choose what suits you best though.

[RBASE-L] - Compiler: How to read command line arguments.

2017-03-12 Thread Michael Byerley
This was started by Larry Lustig in the previous thread.

This code segment could be placed anywhere relative to its purpose.
Function declarations ONLY need to be done ONCE in an RBase session.
Once declared, the DLCall rbase function can be used anywhere, anytime in
an RBase session.

{Begin Code}

{ Original Win32 Function Declaration: LPTSTR WINAPI GetCommandLine(void);}

-- How to declare function in RBase:

IF (CHKFUNC('GetCommandLine')) = 0 THEN
STDCALL FUNCTION 'GetCommandLineA' alias 'GetCommandLine' () : TEXT

SET VAR vText TEXT = NULL

SET VAR vText = (DLCALL('Kernel32', 'GetCommandLine'))

PAUSE 2 USING .vText

RETURN

ENDIF

SET VAR vText TEXT = NULL

SET VAR vText = (DLCALL('Kernel32', 'GetCommandLine'))

[RBASE-L] - Re: From The Edge: Optimizing R:BASE Cloud Applications

2016-12-22 Thread Michael Byerley

I would argue strongly against storing a comma separated list directly in a
text (or any textual based) column.

it wreaks havoc on import/exports.

You should employ a conversion to something handy, like the # symbol or
such before storing as it's not much of a trick to wind and unwind it in
runtime

[RBASE-L] - Re: Override field EEPs

2016-12-14 Thread Michael Byerley
Well I saw from Jim's post that he had maybe a litany of possible
directions to go within the scope of the eep, but custom form actions I
usually reserve for activities that would be used multiples of times
elsewhere, but that's maybe just me, but

to address the idea of a managers override, I would have "such a button" on
the form that would launch a non modal form for the manager to enter their
"override password" within the context of that form, then the manager would
reenter the field to be overridden, wherein the IF condition would test for
the "override password" which would a: change whatever the criteria for the
field would allow direct entry therein and b: skip over all the manditory
choices, then having completed that, manager would close the non modal form
with the OnClose eep of the non modal form clearing the "override
password", but that is just how I would do it.

[RBASE-L] - Re: OT - new laptop

2016-09-30 Thread Michael Byerley
Hey, I think anything that boots in under 30 seconds is pretty darn fast...

My Texas instruments desktop professional, windows 2.1, 640k Ram, 4.77
mhz processor with math co-processor, 20mb harddrive (it's 10mb predecessor
was all I would ever need, so the salesman said), with Autocad 1.0 loaded,
a screen regen of a huge 450k file took a couple of minutes.
I bought that machine new in Nov '83 and I keep copy of invoice in my desk
just for perspective (almost $8000.00), so everything is pretty zippy
today, by any stretch of the imagination.

I am sure most folks would be satisfied with just about any middling
equipped laptop that falls toward the top end as far as reliability is
concerned.

Windows 10, I can't fault at all since "most" apps I use are launched from
the taskbar of the desktop. The more I use it, the more the niggling
little things that were objectionable disappear in the rearview mirror.

Glad you got it handled. When there is a lengthy argument list and I am in
control of the creation of the Win32 DLL, I usually pass ALL the arguments
as text, then parse the string and massage the argument to its correct
datatype inside the Win32 DLL.

[RBASE-L] - Re: DLCALL

2016-08-11 Thread Michael Byerley
The question cannot be answered without knowing the original function
declaration in the DLL, your STDCALL declaration and the datatypes of the
variables you are passing. STDCALL is simply a roadmap between the
original function in the DLL and the endpoint DLCALL function and won't
create an error unless you totally fritz the syntax.

[RBASE-L] - New GATEWAY EXPORT setting

2016-06-21 Thread Michael Byerley
Born within the braintrust of the current SAT in Monroeville PA, Gateway
EXPORT has added the following Option:

GATEWAY EXPORT OPTION ONLY_TABLE TableName

This will restrict the ability for a user to select data for export that
they shouldn't have access to.

It still allows the selection of the target format of the export.

This will be in the next update of RBX.

[RBASE-L] - Re: Did I lose a report setting in RBase X?

2016-04-04 Thread Michael Byerley

In Report Designer>Report, the icons next to the report section are
"depressed or selected" to make the band appear in the report designer and
reversed to do the opposite.

[RBASE-L] - Re: Document table

2016-04-04 Thread Michael Byerley
Use VarChar for RTF or any Textual content that contains formatting.
 VarBit is for binary data.
