[RBASE-L] - QODBC connector

2024-12-03 Thread jan johansen
All,

I am looking for someone that has experience using the QODBC connector to
connect to QuickBooks from R:Base.

A little background.

I have successfully connected to QuickBooks and attached a table.

However I do not appear to be able to list out the table issuing a browse
command or just clicking on the attached table.

I know I'm overlooking something.

The fact it happens after 30 seconds would appear to indicate there might be

not been saved it might reset it to the original, unchanged value.
In the old days we used to place a dummy field behind the last variable to

If the form is doing an auto save, there is a system variable you can check

Version 10.5. Client says this happens in a couple forms, but was sporadic.
Finally there's a form where the issue is easy to replicate so I have
something to work on.

Issue: if you type something in a variable edit field and are just sitting
in that field, if you wait about 30 seconds the text will disappear. The
value of the variable is truly null when you exit the form.

Specifics:

1. Form is based on a table brought up with "edit using" on just one row of
data. No processing is done before the form is brought up. Literally one
line of code in the main menu option.

2. In addition to table fields I have a variable edit and a variable memo.
Both variables are initialized to null on the form's before-start EEP, one
is text type and one is note type.

3. The disappearing happens on both of the variable fields. Whether you
are on the text edit or the memo edit, they will disappear. Only the one
you are on will disappear; i

Using 10.5 latest

I have a variable gauge that the max value will need to be set dynamically.

I think I found the correct rdocs reference:

PROPERTY  'SCALES[n]->OPTIONSVIEW->MAXVALUE' 'n.nn'

So I have my command

PROPERTY cvgshipped 'SCALES[1]->OPTIONSVIEW->MAXVALUE' .veshipnum

Which does not work. I have tried to set SCALES[0] in case it is zero
based.

Anyone have blues clues?

TIA

Hi Jan,

I finally have this operating correctly. In case it is of interest to anyone
else, I have the current drive (vdrive), and default DB directory
(vdefdrive) saved when the DB starts, the default directory, including the
drive name, set in the File List Box control and the ON AFTER START EEP in
the DB directory. The On After Start EEP runs an EEP in a file in the DB
directory, which is different from the one the files I am looking for are in
so I had to include the path name to that in the EEP run command, otherwise
it was looking for it in the drive the files were in:-

GETPROPERTY rbfilebox1 DEFAULTDIRECTORY vdefault_can_dir
SET VAR vdefdrive=(SGET(.vdefault_can_dir,2,1))
IF vdefdrive <> .vdrive THEN
  SET VAR vdefault_can_dir=(SRPL(.vdefault_can_dir,.vdefdrive, vdrive,0))
ENDIF
PROPERTY RBFileBox1 DEFAULTDIRECTORY &vdefault_can_dir
PROPERTY RBFileBox1 MASK '*.pdf'
PROPERTY RBFileBox1 REFRESHLIST 'TRUE'

Once I sorted out the need to use the &variable in the PROPERTY command, but
not in the GETPROPERTY command things went a lot better.

Thank you.

Jan,

Here's a checklist for you!
Create a C:\Temp folder with full access
Setup Windows System Properties > Environment Variables (TEMP and TMP) to
C:\Temp
Adjust User Account Setting Control (All the way down to Never Notify)
Windows Virus & threat protection settings > Exclusions > Add an Exclusion
The entire \RBTI\ folder
The entire database/application folder
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\RBENGINEX5E.DLL
I hope that provides you with some blue's clues ...

Subject: [RBASE-L] - Scaling a form that is large to fit on a laptop display

We have a form that:

Is connected to 10 tables.
Uses six Enhanced Group Boxes as containers for the data.

The Goal: to be able to scale the form to fit on a laptop. The form is 1863
wide and 1066 high. The Border Style is set to sizable. The setup works fine
on 24 or 27 inch displays.

So, one of the people on our team, Jim, did the following:

I found if the screen resolution on my laptop is set to 1920x1080
(recommended setting), the form displays correctly. However, I use a lower
resolution of 1440x900 to make it easier to see.

One option is to manually set the Windows screen resolution to 1920x1080
when displaying the form.

Another is to hardcode the resolution to 1920 in the After Start EEP:

PROPERTY RBASE_FORM SCALEBY '1920'

Finally, it could be programmed in the After Start EEP with something like
the following

SET VAR vRes TEXT = (CVAL('SCREENSIZE')) -- Get screen size (e.g.
1440,900)

SET VAR vSize TEXT = (SSUB(vRes,1)) -- Get first number (e.g.
1440) SET VAR vNewSize TEXT = NULL -- New screen size

-- Resolution must be at least 1920 x 1080 for Property Search form to fit
on the screen. If less, then set to 1920, else leave as is.

IF vSize < '1920' THEN

   SET VAR vNewSize = '1920'

ELSE

   SET VAR vNewSize = vSize

ENDIF

PROPERTY RBASE_FORM SCALEBY .vNewSize

Note: I found the following in the Properties document for RBase Forms, but
could not get it to work.

PROPERTY RBASE_FORM SCALEBY 'FILL_SCREEN'

Possibly there is another way to approach this. It's not something I've
worked with before.

Jim

Another option would be to INSERT INTO tablename (TEXT_columnname) VALUES
(‘obscure_reference_code’) to establish the primary key (PK) first.

Then SELECT pk_columnname INTO variable_name FROM tablename WHERE
TEXT_columnname = ‘obscure_reference_code’

Then you can “EDIT USING formname WHERE pk_columnname = . variable_name

Dan - two other options might be:

1) If you're trying to get the next autonumber value, the NEXT function:

Subtract 1 to get the last assigned number.
See: https://www.rbase.com/support/rsyntax/rbgx5/next_functions_3.html

2) MAX function: SELECT MAX(ColumnName) FROM TableName

You might need to consider how many users are adding rows to the table to
make sure you get the right number.

Jan:

I have one application with this ability. The structure was started by
another programmer, so I don't take full credit. It isn't perfect, as we
added features over the years and would've done it differently if I had
designed it today.

Here's the structure of the table (not all the columns), along with a
description of what some of the columns are for. We have a scheduled task
that runs every 20 minutes, scans the table for "xDateTimeSent is null".
Cursors thru the rows, sends out using RMail, updates the xDateTimeSent.
The program that deciphers all the elements is quite complicated.

It was originally set up to send emails to "groups" (ReptGroup). There's a
maintenance table that has a group name and a list of email addresses. So
different programs will send emails to different "groups" of people (a group
could have just one person). Later on, we needed the ability for users to
send emails to specific people, not a group, so we created an AlertDetail
table that has the to / from / cc information.

It works really well for us.

  Table: Alert

CmdFileType : TEXT 50
This is the name of the RBase program that created the email
ReptGroup Type : TEXT 8
The group the email is sent to; lookup to another table for email
addresses
xDateTime Type : DATETIME NOT NULL
   When the email was inserted
xDateTimeSent Type : DATETIME
When the email was sent by RMail
AlertSubject Type : NOTE
AlertFailedType : DATETIME
If RMail failed, date put here
EmailTypeIDType : INTEGERDefault: 1
1 = look at ReptGroup, 2 = look at AlertDetail table for email address
AlertEmailType Type : TEXT 4 Default: TEXT
This was added when we started using HTML as the body on some emails.
Would have the word "HTML"
AlertFileAttachType : TEXT 120
Name of a file to attach

AlertNote Type : NOTE
If the email body is just a string text, it goes in here
AlertTxtFile Type : TEXT 120
Or the email body can be contained in an external file, either ascii or
html. So this would be the filename, like F:\EmailFiles\Orders.txt

Hope this gives you some ideas!!

[RBASE-L] - R:Mail and Office365

2022-05-03 Thread jan johansen
Group,

After several days of much weeping and gnashing of teeth, finally got a
resolution on R:Mail and Office365.

With John's help at RBTI interpreting the error messages we finally landed
on a setting that allowed

a decipherable error message in the 365Admin panel.

Dan,

I'm interested in this idea as well.

One option I've been wondering about is including ALL the forms, reports and
labels inside the compiled app.

That way the only stuff that should be flying through the ether is the
actual data.

Maybe someone else has an idea.

Jan,

Here's how ...

Use the RBTI_PRNDEFFILE system variable to define the default file
name for the "Print to File" print dialog, before the dialog is launched.

SET VAR RBTI_PRNDEFFILE TEXT = 'InventoryReport.pdf'

The below report-based RBTI system variables are also available:

RBTI_PRNDEFDIR - defines the default directory for the "Print to
File" print dialog, before the dialog is launched

SET VAR RBTI_PRNDEFDIR TEXT = 'C:\Temp\'

RBTI_PRNDEFFILET - defines the default output type for the "Print to
File" print dialog, before the dialog is launched

SET VAR RBTI_PRNDEFFILET TEXT = 'Adobe PDF File'

Have fun!

Subject: [RBASE-L] - Refresh an External Form

R:Base Version X5 – current build.

External Form – shown below

This form is run off of a server and is at two locations in the building.

When someone comes into or leaves the building the data is updated.

However, the change does not show on the second system without closing and
reopening the form.

Goal: to have the external form refresh itself (say every 5 minutes) without
closing and opening the form.

Help shows that a ‘regular’ form can use the: ‘SET REFRESH value’ to
refresh a form, no mention of an external form.

I’ve tried to use the ‘SET REFRESH’ in the external form and could not
get it to work.

Any suggestions are welcome. As always – thanks in advance.

Most of the time printing a report to SCREEN is the preferred option.

However, when I want to "Print to a file" from the SCREEN, the file name

I have a form which displays columns from a single row of a table. The
user is given the option either to enter a new row or to edit an
existing row. If a new row, then a blank form is displayed. If an
existing row, then the user selects a row from a drop down list based on
a date. My question is how to get the form to display the row that was
selected?

I've tried the EDIT USING command with a WHERE clause from within an EEP
to select the desired row and display the information on the form. This
works, but opens a new instance of the form. I'm wondering if there is
a better approach.

Thanks,

What I have done is to print the report using OPTION PDF and then launch it
(most files using PDF are already associated with Adobe reader). Then you
copy your text.

From:

Subject: RE: [RBASE-L] - Copy from Rbase Report to Clipboard

You can click on the Printer icon on the upper left corner and then check
print to file, select a format such as PDF and assign a name:

When you click OK you will be prompted to select options:

Click open to generate and OK and the report will be opened as PDF and you
can select and save to the Windows clipboard as needed.

Of course you can send the report directly to a PDF file with a command:

PRINT YourReportName WHERE….. Order BY ….OPTION PDF |FILENAME xxx.PDF
|OPEN ON

And the file xxx.PDF will open with the report.

What would be the best way to identify a variable as undefinied in an
application and exit the routine? I have a reference to vMAXID which may not
be defined under some circumstances (not just null), and I need to terminate
processing. I have a SET VAR vMAXID = (IFEQ(.VMAXID,NULL,0,.VMAXID) which
throws an error message "variable not defined" with an error code of 2515,
but this seems a rather clumsy way to find the error. Thanks in advance . .

Thank you Razzak.
The Watch variables option is checked and the Watch Variables panel is
displayed but no variables appear.

I went into the registry. These were the initial values:
  FloatHeight x266, FloatLeft x000, FloatTop x000, FloatWidth x000
I modified them as suggested and still no variables are displayed in the
Watch Variable panel.
There are no other floating windows or panels displayed.
Below is screen shot of a trace-in-progress with the Registry overlaid.
F6, Added Variables, expected to be Watched include #DATE, #PI, vEndKey,
vErrVar and others.
Are any other registry values incorrect? I wanted to check before I run
Default_Settings.
TIA,
Doug

If you had recently secured your personal settings for the R:BASE
environment, those setting may be loaded. The R:BASE development environment
that has been customized with your display preferences, custom colors,
startup options, R> Prompt command history, Database Explorer color
appearance, and R:BASE Editor schema can be preserved to load later, for
reinstalls of R:BASE. To unload your personal settings, choose "Settings" >
"Registry Settings" > "Save to File..." from the main menu bar. A .bin file
is to be specified for the registry data. Save the .bin file to a non-local
media, similar to the database files.

You may also run the RBGX5E_Default_Settings.exe utility within the
C:\RBTI\RBGX5E folder, which will reset all of environment registry settings
for the R:BASE installation. R:BASE must be closed for the utility to run
correctly.

If you had not secured your personal settings, and you want keep the current
work environment, you may edit the Registry, and modify the following node:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\R:BASE Technologies\RBGX5E\Trace
Window\Toolbars\Watch Variables

The FloatHeight, FloatLeft, FloatTop, and FloatWidth binary values can be
modified to around 300 to place the floating toolbar at coordinates you can
then see. Please note, modifying the Registry can damage your Windows
environment, if done improperly.

Very Best R:egards,

Razzak

Subject: [RBASE-L] - R:Mail question

We've been using R:Mail with R:Base X for 3 years or so. Same email
provider (comcast) and code for sending email without issues all this time.
Today our emails quit sending. A look at the R:Mail log shows that the
email provider says that authentication and TLS are now required. We have
always had authentication enabled along with SSL.
I see different options for TLS in the R:Mail configuration app, but I don't
really know what any of the options mean. I made several changes to those
check boxes and tried many different combinations. I also changed the port
to the one now listed as the correct port to use with the provider. No
matter what I tried, I end up with a failure notice. Looking at the log
again with different TLS settings returns no error, but there is also no log
of communication with the smtp server.
I also tried using a gmail smtp that we had set up previously as a backup in
case of issues with the comcast server. Those attempts gave the same issues
and failure to send.
Even tried with a Yahoo account with the same results.
I would appreciate any help or advice anyone may have that could get me
headed in the right direction for a solution.
Thanks,
David Fowler

I imagine that the control looks like ... a bar with a pull down, much like

Have you created a "bar with a pull down" CHOOSE object?

Off-the-wall, perhaps:

Has anyone simulated, in any fashion, the integration of the drop-down

Box features of a Variable Lookup [ List Box | List View ]?

This would speed aggregation of list variable values, while conserving Form

The closest I've come is a CHOOSE routine embedded in an EEP, or a Variable
Lookup List Box within a nested form.

Just wondering, Bruce

So we have a customer support ticket system in Rbase.

Currently I have it setup where they link files to the ticket.

1. save the attached files from outlook to desktop

2. In Rbase When they click on “link the files” they select the file(s)
with the plugin and it copies it into an attachment folder with a unique
name.

They would like to be able to just drag the files from outlook to the rbase
ticket and it will automatically do the same. I can do a “on drop” on a
form button but I do not know how to have it grab the file info to
copy/rename the dropped file.

Anyone done this?

   SET VAR p_Net_NetGroup TEXT = (CVAL('NETGROUP'))

and probably use an &variable to build your string.

Hope this helps.

I've never tried this before. I want to use the Loadfilenameplus plugin and
have it come up with the topmost level, which would be "My PC" when I just
bring up windows explorer on its own. That way the user can start with his

I don't see a way of specifying that top level with the "initial_dir". Is
there a way to do that?

Here's the most basic syntax of what I'll be doing, with the root of C

PLUGINS loadfilenameplus.rbl "vFilename|fullpath on +

windows explorer and select the JPG it loads immediately with the preferred
viewer. I can launch PDFs and TXTs, just can't launch JPGs. We're
testing out a new routine, and every user who has tried it gets the same
error. All users are able to go into explorer and view the file.

Can anyone think of something else to try. Unfortunately the user is on
Version X (not X.5, which they have purchased but waiting on a new server to
install)

Paul,

I have implemented more or less the same procedure as Karen describes with a
few differences.

The differences are:

On beforehand I perform some calculations like counting the number of
columns in all tables and the total number of rows in the database

It looks like this:

  SET VAR V_SYS_NUM_COLUMNS_ATL BIGINT = 0
  SET VAR V_SYS_NUM_ROWS_ATL BIGINT = 0
  SET VAR V_TOTAAL BIGINT = 0
  --
  SELECT SUM(SYS_NUM_COLUMNS) INTO V_SYS_NUM_COLUMNS_ATL INDICATOR V_IND01S
FROM SYS_TABLES WHERE SYS_TABLE_TYPE = 'Table'
  SELECT SUM(SYS_NUM_ROWS) INTO V_SYS_NUM_ROWS_ATL INDICATOR V_IND02S FROM
SYS_TABLES WHERE SYS_TABLE_TYPE = 'Table'
  --
  SET VAR V_TOTAAL = (.V_SYS_NUM_COLUMNS_ATL + .V_SYS_NUM_ROWS_ATL)

Then I perform a reload with setting error messages on.

After the reload I perform the same calculations and compare the outcome
with the apriori calculations

If there is a difference I rollback the database.

Tony

Lots of ways to do this depending on your preference.

The following function return the first weekend date for whatever DATE you
enter:

SET VAR vToday DATE = (DWE(.#DATE))

Now you have the next Saturday’s date, so you just need to subtract 5 days
for the previous Monday and 1 for the previous Friday.

set var vStart DATE = (ADDDAY(.vToday, -5))

set var vEnd DATE = (ADDDAY(.vToday, -1))

And you will have the beginning and end dates for the week and you can
easily format them. You can probably combine the commands into one long
command, but it would be more difficult to read in the future.

You can also use the function IDWk which will tell which day of the week for
any date. Then you can use a simple CASE construct to add or subtract days
accordingly. I can think of other ways but the ones I mentioned are simple
and easy to understand.

Hopefully, this is what you were looking for.

Jan,

Historically I have found building a table full of business days works best,
so that you can take into account holidays and special days off/snow days
Along with a business day flag y/n
Put one row in for each business day for the year using a simple loop and
Idwk function and a Y flag and then go flip the flag on the holidays and any
other special days when you don’t operate.

Then you can just count the number of rows between any two dates where the
flag = 'Y'.

I actually had an app with 2 flags because the company was a car auction so
actual business days for sellers and buyers were not always the same so
there was a flag for each because sometimes it might not be a business day
for the sellers if you cant go pickup cars because of a snowstorm, but are
open for buyers who can make in to the location to pay their bills. This
data was used for calculating buyer storage and seller pickup SLA reports.

Just depends on your application and what you need to accomplish with it.

Subject: [RBASE-L] - Choose command with headers

I played around with being able to put HEADERS above the columns in a CHOOSE
command. I think every programmer has wanted that since the "beginning of
time"!

I started out with RBTI's example code that runs against ConComp and it
works great to display 2 columns of data. What I tried to do was add a
third column to their example (the sys_table_type in the command below). It
took quite a while, but my conclusions are:

1. You must have Vertical Lines ON. I am unable to get it to work without
having vertical lines on.

2. I then fiddled with the Vertical Line Breaks line until the headers
lined up perfect with the vertical lines. No rhyme or reason, I just
plugged in random numbers til it worked.

3. Then I played with the Text Breaks line until the data all lined up
perfectly.

Has anyone used this? Am I correct in that you must have Vertical Lines ON?
And I'm guessing there's no shortcut to guessing on the 2 list of numbers
since pixels would depend on your font size, etc.

I'll attach a picture of my choose command with the 3rd column added. Code
below.

CHOOSE vTableViewName FROM #VALUES FOR +
((LJS(SYS_TABLE_NAME,35))&LJS(SYS_COMMENT,75) &
ljs(sys_table_type,10)),SYS_TABLE_NAME FROM SYS_TABLES +
WHERE SYS_TABLE_TYPE <> 'SYSTEM TABLE' ORDER BY SYS_TABLE_NAME ASC +
CHKBOX 1 TITLE 'Select Table/View' +
CAPTION 'Tables' LINES 26 FORMATTED +

Patti,

He has it working. I just need to clear my slate a little.

Just last week, our system admin installed X5E on all the computers. (By
now, I forgot how to convert the databases.)

I'm not sure we are going to buy Rmail because I am turning in my notice
next year and we have to get them a new database, probably something other

I'm starting a different thread with a new question, printing to a URL on

Claudine reports in 2016 that the print/email on does not work with email
from Office365. Per Razzak, it won’t work because you cannot specify the
port within the print, only by setting up Rmail. One of the Office365 email
requirements for integration with third-party applications, in this case
R:BASE, is Transport Layer Security (TLS) and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
support, specifically with port 587. The option to specify TLS/SSL email
security protocol is not available in the R:BASE PRINT command at this time,
and is only available within R:Mail.

You're welcome. And to answer your other question, yes RMail is an RBase
product that you would purchase and install separately. I use both -- RMail
and the simple Print...Email ON. If you're lucky, you can install RMail
yourself as long as you know the username/password/port to use. If it
doesn't work there's a couple other options that your IT guy might have to
help you with.

No. Using the actual table.

My ultimate goal is to either do a drag and drop from another control that
is on the same tab.

Or I may use a varlistview for the other table and do a click to bring rows
over to the DBGrid table.

I am trying to associate each tab (I will end up with 10 or so tabs) to a
diff. number.

Then using the drag and drop or click, bring rows over from another table
side by side.

Are you using a temp table to display the data in the db-grid?

If so, why not just drop the table, and reload it with only the rows you
need.

Thanks, Jan. I was able to capture the TAB caption just fine. Now for the
next step.

The tab has an enhanced DBGrid control. I want to filter the information of
the DBgrid based upon the caption. On tab change here is the code.

(this is successful)

GETPROPERTY comp_tab501 CAPTION 'vtabcap'

The code below does not change the DBgrid to show JUST the 501 info.

PROPERTY comp_501 'FILTERS->COLUMN_NAME->empid' .vtabcap

PROPERTY TABLE scheduling 'REFRESH'

RETURN

I have tried the code using an & in front of the var, without the single
quotes on the FILTER section, etc. Nothing changes what the user will see. I
want just the 501 info to show.

I even tried closing the table then opening it. No change.

PROPERTY TABLE scheduling 'CLOSE'

PROPERTY TABLE scheduling 'OPEN'

This might be a little hard to explain.

You need to assign a componentid to the overall control, which is the
EnhancedTab control.

Then you need to assign componentid's to the individual tabs in the
EnhancedTab control.

I think should point you in the right direction.

I am using the enhanced tab control for the first time.

I want to use the var links editor to capture the tabs caption value. It is
also the first time for me to use the links editor.

The value of vtabcap is not changing and I get an error saying the var has
not been defined.

So my questions are:

Am I using the links editor properly?
Is there a way to capture the caption of the tab using the GETPROPERTY
commands? I do not see anything in RDOCS.

The tab has an enhanced DBGrid control. I want to filter the information of
the DBgrid based upon the caption. On tab change here is the code.

(this is successful)

GETPROPERTY comp_tab501 CAPTION 'vtabcap'

The code below does not change the DBgrid to show JUST the 501 info.

PROPERTY comp_501 'FILTERS->COLUMN_NAME->empid' .vtabcap

PROPERTY TABLE scheduling 'REFRESH'

RETURN

I have tried the code using an & in front of the var, without the single
quotes on the FILTER section, etc. Nothing changes what the user will see. I
want just the 501 info to show.

I even tried closing the table then opening it. No change.

PROPERTY TABLE scheduling 'CLOSE'

PROPERTY TABLE scheduling 'OPEN'

Jim,

I am sure I am missing something simple but here is the problem.

I am adding a DB grid to a form based upon a temp table.

When the grid is visible with a property command all that shows are the
first two rows.

When I look at the temp table, all rows are there.

Tony,

So after you create the table but before adding rows you use the code you
mentioned instead of the alter table command?

I saw the syntax you mentioned but was not sure if I used the alter command.

The the way I look at is you have drag and drop EEPs. When you grab (drag)
write your rep for that for example delete row from a specific table the
when you drop code to add to a table.

Re: [RBASE-L] - navigation in variable lookup list view

2020-10-13 Thread jan johansen
Dan,

I'm not sure I'm following.

I've used bit buttons to move rows up or down in variable list views as well
as used drag and drop to move rows around.

But you're talking in the listview itself?

I want to put buttons to navigate up and down rows in a variable lookup list
view. I checked the properties and so not seen one.

Has anybody done this?

TIA

Javier,

I really like Variable list views.

You can also due a "Multi-drag and drop" using the shift or ctrl shift keys.

Javier:

Have you looked at the "drag and drop"? It's on the right-click properties
of list views. You enable it first, then do the EEPs. I've done it once or
twice, I'd have to look in my notes where I might've kept examples of how I
did mine. So I can't give you examples without looking.

Subject: [RBASE-L] - Using Variable Lookup List to move data between tables

I have an application in which I have to display records from one table
(driving_table) and when I click on a record it is moved to a Temporary
second table (selected_records) and virtually removed from the driving table
(driving_table does not display records already present in the
selected_records table) so it cannot be selected again. Likewise, when I
click on a record on the selected _records table, it is removed from the
selected_records table and the driving_table display that record again since
it is no longer in the selected_records table and thus it is available for
re-selection if needed. Hopefully this makes sense.
In the past I have used two Variable Lookup List boxes, the first with the
driving_table data and the second with the selected_records data and use "on
click" to move record back and forth. Once the desired records are selected
I merge them into one combined record and store it in a separate table.
Is this still the preferred way to do this or is there a better approach? I
actually would prefer using two grids but I have not tried this approach.
Any suggestions or simpler/easier approach that you might have will be
appreciated.

That's a neat idea, never saw anyone design a form like that. That's a
great idea for a Generic date form.

In this instance, they are always selecting just one date, which is why a
calendar is so handy. And of course they do not have to select a second
date. It's not a date range, the two dates are used independently for two
types of calculations, but the 2nd calculation is not required.

I could hide the 2nd calendar and put a button or checkbox for "select 2nd
date for receipt date calculation" and then display the calendar. Which I
might do if they get confused by the display

Karen,
Would something like this work for you?

The form is very easy to use and users can pick any date span very quickly
with a few mouse clicks.
The form is pre-set with the current year pre-selected but you can
pre-select any date range.
The more used time spans can be easily selected by clicking on the
appropriate range. When you select a range, the corresponding start and end
dates are updated on the red colored fields at the bottom.
You can select a specific date span by clicking on the arrows next to the
“From” and “To” dates (highlighted in yellow) and the calendar will
pop with the current date highlighted where you can select a custom date.
9 out of 10 times the required time span needed is one of the pre-programmed
time spans, at least in my application, but you have the freedom to select
a custom time span.
You can modify the form to include date spans that fit you applications.
The form returns the To and From date values a 2 variables, vFrom Date and
vTo Date.

I have found out that if you set the variable to NULL TODAY is highlighted
as if Today is selected, which is not the case. As soon as you select

It seems to me that you can report this to the dream team, maybe they can

The work around is to set a date to the variable instead of a null value

What version are you using? Do you have any other settings checked on other
calendar tabs?

And unfortunately my previous "solution" doesn't work. I cannot have
"white" as the Date Selected Background color. You click a day, you can see
the highlight, but as soon as you move to another control (like my 2nd
calendar), your first selection totally disappears and is no longer
highlighted. So far I've changed the background to a very light grey so at
least it isn't as noticeable as the default blue, but it still looks like a
date has been selected in both calendars.

Also, put your SET VAR vwatch1 TEXT = NULL in the form ON BEFORE START eep.

Then change your DB-edit ON ENTER to SET VAR vwatch1 = NULL

You declare a vWatch1 variable but then you evaluate cilockbox.

Thanks, Jan, no.

Per R:SYNTAX ("... where #c is the column number shown in the output of the
LIST TABLES command..."), I've failed to define and insert a column alias
into a SELECT statement, so as to specify the position of a column, as in:

SELECT 1 FROM HUMPTY ...

... retrieving the value from column 1 .

The value of vColumn_Alias increments within a WHILE loop, walking columns
of a single table: (1,2,3, ..., n ) to produce concatenated output:

(Value_1 (Value_2 (Value_3 (Value_n

I receive a literal string, instead:

"(1 (2 (3 ... (n"

Thoughts? and thanks.

All:

This:

SET VAR vColumn_Alias TEXT = NULL
SET VAR vColumn_Alias = (CTXT(.vColumnCNT_Stp))

... correctly resolves to this: " 1 " , being the " #c " column number, in
text datatype, accepted by the SELECT command.

But, when used in a SELECT statement to retrieve the value contained within
Field 1:

SELECT &vColumn_Alias +
  INTO vColumn_Text INDIC vInd +
  FROM Parsed_Filenames +
 WHERE WalkListID = .vWalkList_Stp

... the value retrieved is the literal value of the text variable: " 1 ",
instead of the field value.

What needs to be changed in the definition of the variable, or in its use
within the SELECT statement, to retrieve the value of column number " 1 "?

Sooo close. Stumped.

Subject: [RBASE-L] - Using #c within an UPDATE ... SELECT

All:

Courier New font

BACKGROUND

For a file naming and re-naming project, several thousands of
custom-delimited document filenames are to be parsed into fields within
table ParsedFileNames. The field count for each record varies by class and
filetype, so that the filename extension scatters over a range of fields.

The goal is to copy the filename extension from whichever field it falls
within, to common column DocExt, ideally as the table is being populated.

To this end, during parsing, SLOCI generates a field count to be stored in a
FieldCount column for each record. Since the filename extension is the last
field in a parsed filename, the extension is found within Column# =
FieldCount.

ISSUE

By itself ...

SELECT ('#'+(CTXT(FieldCount))) FROM ParsedFilenames

... produces:

#13
#11
.
#10

... as intended. So, I'd thought this would do the trick:

UPDATE ParsedFileNames +
   SET DocExt = +
SELECT ('#'+(CTXT(FieldCount))) +
  FROM ParsedFileNames +
 WHERE DocExt IS NULL

... which produces the error:

"Illegal table name - ('#'+(CTXT(FieldCount))) (2037)"

Several attempts to turn the offending string into a variable, for use as an
ampersand variable, have also failed. Still working at it, but clearly not
getting it.

How might the column number be specified within the SELECT statement, to
avoid resort to a WHERE loop or CURSOR?

Many thanks, Bruce

Re: [RBASE-L] - Using #c within SELECT - Revisited

Bruce,

Do you actually have a column named "C#"?

Jan

Subject: Re: [RBASE-L] - Using #c within SELECT - Revisited

All:

This:

SET VAR vColumn_Alias TEXT = NULL
SET VAR vColumn_Alias = (CTXT(.vColumnCNT_Stp))

... correctly resolves to this: " 1 " , being the " #c " column number, in
text datatype, accepted by the SELECT command.

But, when used in a SELECT statement to retrieve the value contained within
Field 1:

SELECT &vColumn_Alias +
  INTO vColumn_Text INDIC vInd +
  FROM Parsed_Filenames +
 WHERE WalkListID = .vWalkList_Stp

... the value retrieved is the literal value of the text variable: " 1 ",
instead of the field value.

What needs to be changed in the definition of the variable, or in its use
within the SELECT statement, to retrieve the value of column number " 1 "?

Sooo close. Stumped.

Thanks much, Bruce

Subject: [RBASE-L] - Using #c within an UPDATE ... SELECT

All:

Courier New font

BACKGROUND

For a file naming and re-naming project, several thousands of
custom-delimited document filenames are to be parsed into fields within
table ParsedFileNames. The field count for each record varies by class and
filetype, so that the filename extension scatters over a range of fields.

The goal is to copy the filename extension from whichever field it falls
within, to common column DocExt, ideally as the table is being populated.

To this end, during parsing, SLOCI generates a field count to be stored in a
FieldCount column for each record. Since the filename extension is the last
field in a parsed filename, the extension is found within Column# =
FieldCount.

ISSUE

By itself ...

SELECT ('#'+(CTXT(FieldCount))) FROM ParsedFilenames

... produces:

#13
#11
.
#10

... as intended. So, I'd thought this would do the trick:

UPDATE ParsedFileNames +
   SET DocExt = +
SELECT ('#'+(CTXT(FieldCount))) +
  FROM ParsedFileNames +
 WHERE DocExt IS NULL

... which produces the error:

"Illegal table name - ('#'+(CTXT(FieldCount))) (2037)"

Several attempts to turn the offending string into a variable, for use as an
ampersand variable, have also failed. Still working at it, but clearly not
getting it.

How might the column number be specified within the SELECT statement, to
avoid resort to a WHERE loop or CURSOR?

Many thanks, Bruce

I have a 3-user RBX.5E system, all running Win10, that has a push button
to capture an image of the current form:

PROPERTY RBASE_FORM CAPTURE_FROM_WINDOW 'CLIPBOARD'

I can paste the image on two of the machines but no image gets pasted on
the third.
I've tried pasting into an email (Outlook, where it works on the other
two machines) and Paint.

I get an outline of the image with the handles but no content.

I can't even ask for blues clues 'cuz there's no color. :(

Any ideas why it would work on 2 machines and not the third?
TIA,

Cfg dashboard indicates a good connection to server.
Tried a trace in our application, but it shows no errors.

Set up logging on my machine and on problem one. Works fine on my computer.
The log file is getting nothing. Dont' know when it starts logging, but
it seems like it never gets that far.

Tried moving my cfg file to problem machine. Assume mail server does
not actually know which computer is sending. No change.

Hard to figure out when all other machines are working from same

Subject: Re: [RBASE-L] - SCONNECT and SATTACH

Jan,

The best approach to understand and view the external (other)
database structure, is to use the Database Explorer's Utilities option.

01. Start RBGXE or RBGX5E and CONNect to R:BASE database.

02. Database Explorer > Main Menu > Utilities > Connect SQL Data Source ...

 Once connected successfully ...

03. Database Explorer > Main Menu > Utilities > Attach SQL Database Tables

This is where you will see the list of all tables and views

While SATTACHing, you will have the option to attach that table as:

 . Attach As Alias
 . Attach As Temporary
 . Attach USING ALL

Once SATTACHed successfully, you can review everything and then write
a command file to accomplish the exact same task automatically.

That's all there is to it!

To further understand and automate the entire process, take a close
look at the R:BASE Super Advanced Training Sample Applications (Part 5):

Application: R:BASE for Everyone (Integrating R:BASE X.5 Enterprise
(Version 10.5) with ODBC Compliant Databases)

Have fun!

Jan,

Adding to what Razzak has already said, I have had a lot of experience
connecting external databases. The beauty is, once the ODBC connection is
created and you SATTACH the database when you look at “Attach SQL Database
Tables” (ignore the SQL) it lists all the tables in the database. One
thing you will find is that other databases will allow table names that are
reserved names in R:BASE so you will have to create an alias column name.

If you have any questions feel free to reach out to me offline. I will be at
our Nashville, TN facility next week (central time zone) and have some time
in the evenings.

BTW, what version of R:BASE will you be using?

Good luck,

Paul Buckley

Group,

I haven't really had the need to utilize these commands until now.

I need to connect to an Access DB (mdb).

I can SCONNECT to it no problem.

However how to SATTACH to the internal tables if you have no idea what

the Access structure is or what the table names are?

Jan,

Here's how ...

01. EDIT ALL FROM SYS_FORMS3 ORDER BY SYS_FORM_NAME

02. Highlight the one you don't need based on SYS_FORM_MOD_TS and
SYS_FORM_VERSION

03. Press [F9] key to delete the row

Have fun!

Re: [RBASE-L] - Is there a limit to PDF printing?

2019-04-30 Thread jan johansen
Karen,

My recommendation is the individual statements. We print statements to PDF's
and they are stored on the server so we can always go back for them.

Also the statement program runs on the server at about 2AM on the last day
of the month. So much faster

than the user pressing a "print statement" button.

Subject: [RBASE-L] - Is there a limit to PDF printing?

I have an app that prints thousands of statements a month, and the program
hasn't changed much since 6.5 days. Each statement is calculated one at a
time and printed one at a time.

Most of the time the computer will lock up during the printing, which I
assume is because RBase is printing so fast to the spooler, and the
network/spooler/printer simply cannot keep up with the number of files
waiting to print, and at some point RBase can no longer send jobs to the
print queue. Luckily I've programmed it so that the user can come back in
and easily continue where it left off, but it's a pain to have to do that.
We've tried building in "waits" after so many statements print, but the
program ended up taking like 6 hrs to run!

And yes, believe it or not, they are mailing the statements to their
customers and have no wish to email them.

So I'm thinking of utilizing PDFs instead, and I have the choice of
generating 1000s of individual PDFs (where the user can then highlight
multiple PDFs, right-click, "print" at their own schedule), or generating
one huge multi-1000s page PDF.

I have never created that big of a PDF. Is there a reasonable limit to the
#pages RBase can print to a PDF file? Can someone tell me the largest PDF
file they've ever generated?

Thanks!Or if you have other suggestions.

Karen

I think I remember that you are running compiled.

Did you include Steel Blue as an additional resource in your compiler?

As an aside, it may be beneficial to move from themes in database.

They are overhead and slow it down.

I bring up the pause with gauge box quite often when running reports. In my

In my application it is all plain and not fancy like it should be. I still
see only the outline and hardly see the lettering.

What setting in my CFG or startup file do I need to change in order to have
the gauge look like it should?

This is the code I bring into the code from a command file table within
