[RBW] A Typical Ride
After all the discussion of long-distance rides, I was inspired to post on our blog about a typical ride. Like Grant's S24O camping trips, most of our rides don't go far from home, yet there is a lot of fun to be had. To me, the long adventures are like eight-course meals: special and memorable, but not what I'd want to do every week. Our weekly rides are more like daily fare: less elaborate and more easily digested, but very enjoyable nonetheless. http://janheine.wordpress.com/2012/12/15/a-typical-ride/ Jan Heine Editor Bicycle Quarterly -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Not yet. I have been thinking about getting them for long rides. Maybe that will convince me. I know I will enjoy the speed of them. Re: [RBW] Re: Little Ben
There is no such thing as a punctureless tire, why ride around on some belted, heavy tires unless you have to though? I think alot of that market is people who think they have to ride those tires or else. If you are in goathead counrty is one thing but for most of a flat every now and then isnt the end of the world. It really shouldnt take you more than 5 minutes to change one out anyway. I rode 23s for a long time and the Hetres are almost as fast as them, to be honest and are way way more comfortable. Jan has written extensively on this topic, good reading if you have time over xmas. On Sun, Dec 16, 2012 at 10:09 PM, Michael john11.2...@gmail.com wrote: Not yet. I have been thinking about getting them for long rides. Maybe that will convince me. I know I will enjoy the speed of them. I am not saying I don't believe what everyone is saying about them being an almost punctureless tire. I just have to expand my comfort level I guess. Since it is just plain rubber, what's to stop glass from getting through? I guess that is my concern. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Photos from Today's Ride
A handful of photos from a chilly and damp day's ride. Before viewing, please note that I rode with cleated shoes/pedals (although I was fully clothed in wool and sat on a Brooks saddle). Re: [RBW] Re: What's your raffle entry consist of, and what are your plans for the prize?
Haven't purchased yet, but I'm thinking of buying the following: Wheelset V brakes - but I notice that Rivendell seems to not be selling these right now Brake pad inserts for Silvers Some Big Ben 700 x 35 tires Aluminum Bosco Bar if they get them in 12-36 cassette A front derailleur Maybe stem-mount shifters And if I were to win a frame, then I'd be in a bind again trying to raise funds to build it up. I think I would go with a custom made like a Roadeo and try to build it up light and racy (SRAM 50-34 front with 12-36 rear), since I have the beefy touring, country bike, and offroad areas covered pretty well. [RBW] Re: A Typical Ride
Now those are the rides I like. Three/Four hour ride through the local hills, along the trails...take off in the morning and have the afternoon free for something else. I try to get out one or two weeks during the summer and go somewhere camping or visiting but those little rides are a nice break from commuting, shopping, jury duty..all the I have to transport myself somewhere type rides. Regards, Ray On Dec 16, 6:46 am, Jan Heine hein...@earthlink.net wrote: After all the discussion of long-distance rides, I was inspired to post on our blog about a typical ride.
