[RBW] FS: 58cm SimpleOne F/F/H/BB $700

2016-04-19 Thread David Podboy
I’m posting my SimpleOne 58cm frame/fork/headset/BB again after someone
backed out of purchasing. The bike is in great shape with some blemishes
and scratches from use. The previous owner used touch up paint that is
close but not an exact match to the original paint. There are no dents or
rust. I’ve tried to show the marks in the photos.

$700 OBO includes professional boxing. Buyer pays actual shipping cost.

Pics: https://goo.gl/photos/gxPSVnVooDbTThhy8. I only had pictures of the
complete build before I boxed the frame and the original sale fell through.

Ships from Vancouver, WA. If you are in the Portland or Seattle areas, I’m
happy to meet for pickup.

Thank you!
David

Re: [RBW] Re: Annoying unwanted commentary/advice while riding a Rivendell.

2016-04-19 Thread kielsun
I don't think my Sam would generally beat a carbon frame rb in a flat out
race, but it's going to last for a really long time, and I love riding it.
Lots of people have never seen anything like it, and I enjoy explaining the
reasons why it's the right bike for me. If dude likes his bike and seems to
be having a good ol' time on the ride, good for him. To each his own. I
hope his bike makes him as happy as mine does me.

The real issue seems to be his smug attitude, and unfortunately, offering
unsolicited advice in return won't solve much of anything. I love the idea
of offering to swap for a while. I'm definitely giving this a shot if ever
in the situation!

I've owned many Brooks saddles snd never had any color bleed. i don't tend to

I didn't sign up for the email list, because I did not have a sincere

Probably some people are pissed that you can pass them on a steel bike if

I'd take that over the comments that I get. My bikes are Riv-like in
set-up. My daily ride is a single-speed and I live in a valley, so hills in
every direction. I'm 48, most of my hair is grey and I live in
oil-country (pick-up trucks and guts) and people just can't believe a man
of my age could be riding a bicycle in normal clothes. People surprisingly
often ask straight-out "hold old ARE you?". I'm going to have to move
soon. I'm fed-up with defending mankind's right to be healthy in their
prime. I wish people would stick to denigrating my ride and leave me out
of it!

There are none so knowledgeable as those with narrow experience.

this was measured c to c, at 58cm and it has a standover (with those
skinny tires) of 85cm. i think its safe to assume that it is actually a
61cm. other pics look good. a few nicks here and there, but overall really

[RBW] Annoying unwanted commentary/advice while riding a Rivendell.

2016-04-19 Thread William deRosset
Dear Julian,

A tone deaf rider for sure. A response like, "Well, the proof of the bike is in
the riding," and a pointed change of topic would be my strategy. Or a change of
position in the double paceline might be in order. A gentle roll off the front
sounds like your response. I am just not that fast/competitive these days.

I get a very few comments on the club runs like yours, but if they continue
with the distance events, then they will figure it out. I ordinarily will point
positive, and answer questions straight. Sometimes the interlocutor is just
expressing ignorance and curiosity.

Cheers,

Will

[RBW] Re: FS: V.O, Pletscher, Grandsfors Bruks, E-Werk, Pitlocks, Shimano, Park Tools

2016-04-19 Thread Mike in WA
Almost forgot, also for sale are three Schwalbe Super Moto tires. Two of
these tires still have the rubber needles from the injectors on the center
of the tread, so I would guess they have ≈95% of the tread left. One tire
doesn't have these in the center of the tire, but does have them on the
edges; I would guess ≈90% tread left on that. I ran these tires tubeless
and they may have a little latex residue on them when shipped
(insignificant amount of weight). They do work well tubeless (with Orange
Seal) but it takes a few days to get a full seal, FWIW.

$65 shipped for all three tires. Pictures of them are in the album.

That's already the best response possible ... as long as you could stay

isn't he keeping up with you on it?

Alternatively, you could always tell him how much you admire his plastic

[RBW] Re: Annoying unwanted commentary/advice while riding a Rivendell.

2016-04-19 Thread ChrisB
Hi Julian
On the occasions that I took my AHH into a bike shop here in the UK the
staff were always really impressed and told me what a lovely bike they
thought it was. Often the owners (who, admittedly, were older) made a point
of coming out to talk to me about it. To me these are the knowledgeable
folks who know bikes and their genuine admiration made me feel good about
my choice and their shop. In a similar vein to others, the AHH was, by a
long shot, the bike that got the most admiration from people (family,
friends and total strangers). My wife even had me bring it into the studio
once when we had a family portrait done! Viva la difference!

[RBW] Ride report: Bethany Beach, DE

Looks like such a fun ride, despite the headwinds. I spent summers as a kid in
the Bethany Beach area. I'd love to get back there with my Sam for something
like this. Thanks for sharing!

2016-04-19 Thread sameness
I've always wanted an Atlantis, but I pretty much have all the parts I'd
want to hang on it, and I kinda hate parting out perfectly good bikes.

So I'll probably keep holding out on a frame unless you go ride it, pass on
it, and/but tell me it's awesome.

I just used the CL email link last night. S/he emailed me back this AM.

Definitely looks like a 61 based on the head tube, could be that the lister's

avoidance skills, braking and close proximity riding. Never a single

[RBW] Annoying unwanted commentary/advice while riding a Rivendell.

2016-04-19 Thread jeffrey kane
Mark, that's funny-- I used to ride with the ABC guys, too (but not in about 8
or more years now). I remember the president being a really tall guy named
Doug. He rode one of those wacky Ti Colnago's with the double down tube and
there was a mix of what I'd consider Bobish types and common Freds. I, at the
time was an absolute Fred in the heyday of my racing days so I was always
amused by the "old" dudes on the old bikes ...

As for the unsolicited comments: it wasn't until I bought my first 650b bike
and read some of the cyclotouring/rando history articles in BQ that I came to
realize just how little I really knew about cycling.

Last time I did a club ride (three summers ago) I was on my "old" Giant TCR and
23's. I had already drank the 650b x 42 cool aid at that point but was at the
shore and bored and figured what the hell well, the group leader (a bike
shop manager) gave me grief over not having my tires inflated enough. I took a
deep breath and thought "wow, really?" and proceeded to discuss the pro trend
towards bigger tires (like, even 25's) -- he thought I was crazy but I insisted
bigger tires were in his future as a shop guy. The blank stare back was
priceless …

[RBW] Re: PSA: 58cm Atlantis on Los Angeles Craigslist

2016-04-19 Thread Dave C
The size is fine if you are going with road tires, but if you want the
biggest tires it can fit I believe it would be tight. Standover was usually
calculated with 35 mm tires. IMO, road riding will be fine, bumpy dirt
roads with fat tires not so much.

Re: [RBW] Leather saddle bleed

2016-04-19 Thread 'Mark in Beacon' via RBW Owners Bunch
Unlike Avery, I have had honey stains. Like with the black dye, it comes
off in moist conditions--rain or sweat. As others have pointed out, the
Select does not have any dye. I got one, like it a lot. I'm guessing the
quality/thickness of the leather is probably what the original B17 were
back in the day. As also mentioned, it turns very close to the honey color
in a relatively short time, especially after treating it with Proofide or
Obenaufs. I think I posted a comparison photo, but that might have been on
another list. Regarding saddle covers, fine for out in a downpour, but if
you must use one all the time, that is worse than a clear plastic couch
cover--at least you can see through that.

I have a honey B17 regular. Bought it new and I've had it on 3 bikes and 6-7k

khaki cargo shorts, so I'd notice on my shorts if it were a problem. Never had

Re: [RBW] Leather saddle bleed

2016-04-19 Thread A CT Cyclist
Nope, not my first leather saddle, remember I'm the OP with the black
leather saddle staining light colored clothing. I have a b68 on my more
upright bike and the saddle in question is b17 Imperial which I
inadvertently got furniture polish on. I believe that was the catalyst for
the bleed, although I realize there is always the potential for the dye to
come off of any leather saddle. From what I've read and seen it seems like
the black saddles are the worse offenders. Does anyone have any experience
with the honey color staining light colored clothing?

[RBW] Re: Annoying unwanted commentary/advice while riding a Rivendell.

2016-04-19 Thread 'Mark in Beacon' via RBW Owners Bunch
When I visit my mother on the Jersey Shore, where I've been riding with
the Atlantic Bicycle Club since Lemond won the tour, I am generally the
only rider on steel. One day I showed up with my Ron Kitching, which
admittedly has a decent amount of beausage. The club president greeted me
with "Where did you get that P-O-S?" More or less in a joking spirit.

As for your encounter, it does sound annoying. But I would not judge quite
so harshly. This person is probably a bit socially inept. I would try one
of two strategies. First, a bit of humor. "I wanted a Trek Madone, but they
don't come in orange, so the sales person recommended this bike." "Yes, I
would love a Calfee. Sadly, I am highly allergic to carbon fibers and break
out in awful hives. Oops, you're getting a little too close there!" If this
does not quell his desire to dispense free commentary, try deflecting the
attention back to him: "Enough about me. How much does your bike weigh?
Wow! How much with you on it?" "Hey, cool jersey. I just love the way it
follows every contour of your bod. Sex-ay!" As a last resort, If he still
won't leave you alone, try the Mafia Guy on Trial Insanity move:"I have to
ride steel. The reception when the space lizards contact me is so much
better." If that doesn't get rid of him, you've found a riding partner for
life!

Fair question. I am a big boy, 6'3", 210 lbs. (not too much blimper than

[RBW] Annoying unwanted commentary/advice while riding a Rivendell.

2016-04-19 Thread Garth
I can lie to anyone about anything, and that lying includes why this is better
or worse than that, I am right and you are wrong, and continue to lie by giving
evidence to support my claim and deny yours. Huh. That feels pretty crappy,
but there I go teĺling another lie of excuses ! Huh. I can fool the world and
even myself , for awhile.. but I can never ever fool my heart. The heart
knows nothing of this polarizing of right and wrong, good and bad, superioŕ and
inferior..it is all meaningless because it all speaks of everything the
heart is not and never could possibly be, limited in any way. Pure.

Anyone that disagrè with this would be like an echo of self lying, the futility
of claiming the impossible is possible.

So I ride my bicycle this day and live my life from my heart. just like
being in love. Not the kind of love hat is afraid of it going away, but the
love that is irrevocably with me and all there is of "me". It's the darndest
thing... smiling

Here is as good any other here , so here is actually as wonderful and as
possible here. Huh. How bout that..

It is true that most comments I get are positive.

We'll have to see if he continues to show up on rides, and if he's had his
