If you ever get caps or bandanas made for the gauchos to raise funds, let
me know and I'll buy some. Funny story - my brother in law's company is a
team sponsor!

I put one on the rear on my Atlantis, I have a Schwalbe G-One on the front.

[RBW] Re: Riv is again advertising the Rodeo on the frames page

2019-02-24 Thread Mark Schneider
Good to see it again although I can't see a need for myself. I've wonder if
the change from MUSA based Atlantis and Homers and general lack of MUSA
frames was related to True Temper not making tubing for bikes anymore. I
heard it caused issues with a lot of builders, including Waterford.
Maybe this change is indicative of progress in finding an alternative.

[RBW] FS: Swift Ozette, Patagonia Fleece, Shimano Shoes, Redwings, Schott MUSA

2019-02-24 Thread 'jinxed' via RBW Owners Bunch
Having to purge to keep the ship afloat. Some good MUSA Rivy stuff.

*Swift Industries Ozette - $165*
Size small, xpac material. Great condition, some coffee and dust staining
on the inside. Had a couple buttons on the front flap so you can see the
pin holes.

*Patagonia Fleece - $45*
Old school made in USA "sweater". Size small, but these had a boxy cut. I'm
a medium in most things, but this fits. Snug on me at the waist, opens at
the chest. Im 5'9" 155lb
Fleece is super thick and cozy. Excellent condition, clean, from a non
smoking/pet household
Pit to pit - 21"
Sleeve from shoulder seam - 23"
Length from bottom of collar to hem - 21"

*Shimano SH-MT32B Spd Shoes - $35*
Size 9 mens. Fit true. Worn exactly once. I have foot issues and was trying
to find an spd shoe to help...these didnt work.

*Also have some RedWing 8109 moc-toe oxford - $65*
Size 9, but run about a half size big IMO. Made in USA. Welt construction.
Same as the workboot, but low top.
Great shape, broken in, not broken. I used these to do carpet install
inspections because of the white non marking soles. Havent done that for 3
years thankfully.

*How about a vintage Schott Perfecto biker jacket? - $85*
Size 50! It's huge. Made in USA , complete with pile lining
Excellent condition, hardly any wear. I bought this in maybe 89 or 90? Used
to wear stuff WAY too big. To wit, I'm a 38reg suit jacket.
Clean, conditioned, WILD ONE!
Pit to pit - 25"
Waist - 24"
Sleeve from shoulder seam - 24"
Shoulder to shoulder across back - 23"
Collar seam to bottom down the back - 25 1/2"
And yes, the pile lining vest zips out.
All Talon zippers in perfect shape

This is incredible Kai - you're playing with fire here, you're gonna have
requests pouring in! Sorry for the brazen pun. oh geez.
Seriously you put the 'can' in 'cantilever', I can't wait to come check it
out IRL and make the swap!

For those who may have forgotten, I had an extra fork for my Cheviot which
had been 'accidentally re-raked' in an accident, and Kai, who turns out to
practically be my neighbor, offered to try brazing on Canti posts! Gotta

I should also point out Kai, an artist, makes some really cool sculptures

[RBW] Re: FS: Rambouillet - 54cm - $1,300 + shipping CONUS

2019-02-24 Thread George Schick
Heh. My legs are disproportionately short compared to my arms and my
torso. Many years ago back in high school I had a part time job that
required us to change into uniforms. One day in the locker room a fellow
worker looked at the length of my pants and then at me. He said, "Schick,
you a funny built m__ f__." And he was right. If the legs were the right
length I'd be 6 ft., too. Way it is, I have to ride a smaller frame, hence
the 54cm and use a longer length stem (assuming road bars). This is one of
the reasons frame sizing is a very individual thing.

[RBW] Re: FS: Rambouillet - 54cm - $1,300 + shipping CONUS

2019-02-24 Thread George Schick
Curious. Maybe we're talking past each other. I'M 5'9" and my inseam
measures 31.25" standing on bare feet with a tape measure attached to a
stick that's pulled up snugly against the public bone. That converts to
79.375cm. If the 54cm frame (measured center of the BB to top of the top
tube) fits me without discomfort it would seem like you would be on a 56cm,
as you say. Seems like someone with an 89cm PBH would want maybe a 57cm or
58cm at the least.

[RBW] Re: FS: Rambouillet - 54cm - $1,300 + shipping CONUS

2019-02-24 Thread Mike K.
Yeah. Most road bikes I ride are 55 or 56. (I’m 6’ with 32” inseam). I guess I
could be measuring PBH wrong? But my sizing is pretty consistent with friends
the same height.

The Rams TT only slopes 2°. Essentially level. I make up for it with a tall
stem and bars with a fair bit of reach.

Not missing anything. My pbh is 90, my rides are 61 and 62, even a 63 is good.
61 Roadeo a bit on small side, 61 Atlantis nice fit could use a 62. Formerly
61 Ram.

[RBW] Re: FS: Rambouillet - 54cm - $1,300 + shipping CONUS

2019-02-24 Thread George Schick
I have to admit that you guys have me a bit confused. I have a PBH of a
little over 79cm and I'm riding a 54cm Ram and it fits me perfectly - and
that's with it's sloping TT. Seems like a frame that size would be too
small for someone with a PBH of 86cm and even a 56cm would be too small for
someone with a PBH of 89cm without the saddle and the bars having to be
jacked way up. Sure, I realize that set up is different for every
individual and is as much a matter of personal taste and comfort as
anything else, but...
Tell me what I'm missing here.

[RBW] Race Report from Norcal High School Mountain Bike Racing League

2019-02-24 Thread Bill Lindsay
This is not as off-topic as you may think. Grant is deeply interested in
how my team is doing.

As many of you know, I'm an assistant coach, ride leader and team mechanic
for El Cerrito High School Mountain Bike Racing. Many of you have donated
to our team one way or another. We race in Norcal, Southern Division. You
may remember that our league has been dominated for years by Salinas High
School. They've won every D1 team competition at every league race for 6+
years. Last season, ECHS has something go wrong in every race and in every
race we came in 2nd place to Salinas. We knew we could beat them, and in
California State Championships we had a perfect day and destroyed Salinas,
placing 2nd in the State of California behind Sir Francis Drake High School
in Marin County.

For 2019 we had everyone back and we expect to take League this year. We
are certain we can beat Salinas; our only fear is that Berkeley might rise
up as well. We've got 25 racers to Salinas ~35, and Berkeley's ~90
racers. Yesterday was the first League Race and we did it. We took the D1
team competition by a fair margin over Berkeley, with Salinas placing
third. The day goes down as one of my proudest cycling accomplishments,
even though I didn't ride. Interestingly, the team was pretty subdued
about it. Everyone could have done better and everyone is pretty focused
to keep improving. We didn't actually win any of the individual races, so
every rider has room to move up.

Other Riv content: our Gaucho mascot logo is wearing a green bandanna, so I
cleaned out Rivendell of their green bandannas and handed them out to the
racers to wear on the podium.

Also, three sold, 18 still available (although the C'Dale Coda has

[RBW] FS: 56cm Toyo Atlantis

2019-02-24 Thread DarinM

Time to sell my beloved, but undersized, Atlantis. It's certainly seen some
use and has the beausage to show for it, but no dents/rust. It's amazing as
a touring/singletrack/dirt oriented all-rounder. It was my first Riv and I
really have been amazed by it since I bought it as a frameset last summer,
sadly it's just too small. On that note, I will sell it with a $50 discount
to any first time Riv owner. These are special rides and I hope it can

Price for everything above: $2250 plus freight, I already have a box and
packaging supplies for a complete bike. Located in Pullman, WA or back in
Seattle in a few weeks.

Swap the Nitto 32F/Mini front rack for a 34F/Big front rack for $50.

The Nitto 32F threaded attachment stud was trimmed too short to stick out
of the crown for a nut, so I drilled the back of the fork crown hole here
to accept a recessed brake nut. Looks clean and works well with the Sheldon
nut and front fender. Drilling was done with a good setup on a drill press.
No harm done, but important to share.

Lots of nice tires in the package as I'm reluctantly divesting in 26" gear,
seeing as I don't think I'll find a frame in my size any time soon. Sorry
I'm a dummy and at least mounted all of the Thunder Burts, they are all
relatively low mileage though. Some probably only have 20-30 miles on em,
one may have only been unpacked and carried as spare on tour...

I also have an 8/9/10 speed, non-dyno wheelset I could sub in for less $$
for anyone not down with 7 speed. Velo Orange Touring hubs and Escapade
rims. It will change a few of the components (dyno light at the least) and
take a few weeks to round up, so if you're interested in that one, let's
chat about price.

Feel free to ask any questions about the frame or build kit. I've tried to
be as detailed as possible, but I'm sure I missed something.

Thanks for looking,

Darin
