I’m posting here for others also.

Keep an eye out for their B stock and sale saddles. Years ago I’ve bought
saddles there for under $100 and they were nearly new. You need to visit a
few times a day and if you see something you want, don’t hesitate to
purchase right away. https://selleanatomica.com

No, not going with Malocchio, that one's a little too long and low for me.
I went back to vintage. Joe Bunik has a frameset I couldn't resist. I'll
show build pics when it's all done.

2023-01-11 Thread Kim Hetzel
Hi Roberta,

I thank-you very much for the information. I appreciate it. I am very much
familiar with Selle Anatomica's website regarding their used saddles and
their "B" stock saddles. For now there reads " No products found in this
collection" between the two. I have been visiting the site frequently and
other sites, such as eBay and Craigslist.

I went on a long 14 mile bike ride yesterday; my first with my Clem, since
I have owned it last September. I had comfort arguments with my Brooks B67S
saddle, of which I have had for years between a couple of bikes that I have
owned. I have decided to find another saddle.

Comfort is everything riding a bicycle.

[RBW] Which Paul brakes for a Quickbeam or Simple One?

2023-01-11 Thread JohnS
The "are Paul's brakes worth it thread" got me thinking that I should give
them a try on my Quickbeam. What do people have experience with? I like the
idea of using touring canti's on the rear and minimotos on the front as
seen on this Rock Lobster build over on The Radivist.

https://theradavist.com/cyclofunk-single-speed-rock-lobster-cyclocross-kyle-kelley/

The only problem with that is, I'll have to get two pairs of brake levels,
one short pull and one long pull. I'm planning on using Mark/noodle drop
bars, so the Tektro R340 and RL520 brake levers are at reasonably priced at
$30/pair.

Any suggestions are appreciated,
JohnS

Re: [RBW] Which Paul brakes for a Quickbeam or Simple One?

2023-01-11 Thread esoterica etc
John,

The Paul Minomotos are actually short-pull calipers, so you can use the same
short-pull levers that you would use with the touring/neo-retro cantilevers.
The Paul Motolites are the ones that use long-pull levers.

Also depends on if you want to run fenders. I don't think the minimotos
have all that much clearance depending on tire size.

Re: [RBW] Which Paul brakes for a Quickbeam or Simple One?

2023-01-11 Thread iamkeith
Since the Quickbeam has a nice, built-in cable hanger at the rear (whereas
the Simple One relies on an ad-on hanger installed at the seatpost clamp
bolt), I think it's nice to use canti brakes. Just my opinion. I had wide
profile brakes, like the neo-retro, both front and rear on my Quickbeam
(and will again when I finish rebuilding it) and never had heel clearance
problems. I do have another bike where I needed to use the touring on the
rear with the neo retro on the front.

 John,

The Paul Minomotos are actually short-pull calipers, so you can use the
same short-pull levers that you would use with the touring/neo-retro
cantilevers. The Paul Motolites are the ones that use long-pull levers.

Re: [RBW] Which Paul brakes for a Quickbeam or Simple One?

2023-01-11 Thread Benjamin L. Kelley
When I was starting my design process for Paul braking my Quickbeam
everyone said to put touring on the rear.
I measured my heel clearance and decided for my bike and fit, that touring
would be unnecessary and neo-retro's would clear fine.
However, a set of used touring in my preferred color came up either here or
i-bob first, so I ended up going with them anyways.
Definitely measure before you buy tho if you are only considering the
touring for clearance problems, it might not be an issue for you.

Re: [RBW] Which Paul brakes for a Quickbeam or Simple One?

2023-01-11 Thread Patch T
I use Paul's Touring on the rear and Minimotos on the front on my QB.
The Minimotos clear a VO Smooth 45mm fender just fine.
I agree that not using the canti stop bridge on the rear is a little sad,
but one could get creative and mount a light there if you preferred to run
a Minimoto on the rear as well.

[RBW] Very short reach drop bar, not too wide, gives a relatively normal hood position, and has anormal (not anatomic) bend?

2023-01-11 Thread Patrick Moore
Is there any bar that is not more than about 44 cm at hoods, has a regular
hook, gives more or less a regular hoods position, and that has a very
short reach? And a very shallow drop? I think of replacing the cut-down
Aherne MAP bar with something that gives me the ever comfortable hood
position but doesn't stretch me out much more than the Aherne bar. I
realize that I can buy a shorter stem too, but I want to know what the
shortest reach, etc., option/s is/are.

Thanks.

Andrew: Thanks; good heads-up on the Roadini, then. As for my blue Ram, I

Re: [RBW] Re: FS: New 57cm Roadini Frameset (Orange) + headset, 559 brakes, Nitto seatpost

2023-01-11 Thread Patrick Moore
Nay, the qualities increase in direct proportion to the procrastination.
But don't be a doubter. (Well, give it more time, anyway.) You expressed
skepticism about the 2020 Matthews and lo and behold, it eventually
eventuated. And, I was sidetracked with plans for the Monocog replacement,
about which I'm now wondering if it would be worth the cost and effort.
Actually, Chauncey had agreed to repair some minor damage and have it
powdercoated Molteni Orange back in 2020 when he built the Matthews #2, but
he got fed up with brazing frames, got out of the business, and gave it
back to me unrepaired.

Patrick Moore, with a long list of bike projects that *eventually* get done.

2023-01-11 Thread Andrew Turner
Good catch! I bought these on eBay a little while ago and haven't used them
on a build. They do fall within the recall time period so there's some risk
involved. Honestly if someone wants them for $25 which should easily cover
shipping, that works for me.

I too would be curious about a bar like this, specifically with a 26.0 or
25.4 clamp size. If 31.8 isn't a buzzkill for you, I have nothing but good
things to say about Ritchey's Evocurve handlebar. Quite comfy.

As long as you don't mind a 31.8mm clamp area and a black finish, both
Specialized's Shallow Bend handlebar and Zipp's 70 Ergo bars have a darn
short reach and are super comfortable. (Specialized has a round top; Zipp
has a slightly flatter top...) The Zipps have a 70mm reach; Specialized's
is either the same, or 75mm...

I'm linking to the base-price versions...

If you're looking for a silver finish and a 26.0 clamp area, the only thing
I've found to be nice is the Soma Hwy One... Would love to hear of others!

2023-01-11 Thread Patrick Moore
Thank you, Elizabeth; both those look very possible -- and yes, I should
have mentioned that I do want a 31.8mm clamp area.

The Specialized website also showed these with a 15 mm rise: perhaps even
better:
https://www.specialized.com/us/en/hover-alloy-handlebars--15mm-rise-plus-flare/p/155205?color=231077-155205&searchText=21018-3044

I suppose all of these have 128 mm -- 130 mm drop; then the Hover with the
15 mm rise is even better with a net 115 mm drop. Excellent.

Nick: Thanks for referring the Fairweather, but the 2 Specialized bars suit
better.

Re: [RBW] Re: Nitto quill-clamp front brake housing stop

2023-01-11 Thread Patrick Moore
Thanks all again. After looking more closely at the Nitto clamp-on stop I
put in to Rene Herse for an alert when their headset-mount stop is back in
stock. The RH will give another cm or so of drop, which is good given the
crowded housing with the lowish stem (high head and steerer).

Re: [RBW] Re: Very short reach drop bar, not too wide, gives a relatively normal hood position, and has anormal (not anatomic) bend?

2023-01-11 Thread Jeremy Till
The Salsa Cowbell is the shortest drop bar I've found (and used) at 68mm
reach. Contemporary "short and shallow" type hooks. If you're used to any
kind of real estate behind the brake lever, however, you might find these
lacking. Fully on the brake lever hoods is about the only hand position
they offer in that region. I recently used some for about a year before
swapping for the VO "Nouveau Randonneur," which has significantly more room
behind the hoods but is also longer reach. I liked the angle and position
of the drops on the Cowbells better, though.

2023-01-11 Thread amillhench
Soma hwy 1 is another good (cheap) option in 26 and 31.8. I use them and like
them but agree there is no place between the tops and hoods.

Drop: 130mm
Reach: 75mm

Re: [RBW] Re: Very short reach drop bar, not too wide, gives a relatively normal hood position, and has anormal (not anatomic) bend?

Thanks Jeremy and Aaron; both bars are in the running. I still favor the
Specialized Hover bar for its 15 mm rise, but any of these with 31.8 mm
clamp would work.

Re: [RBW] Which Paul brakes for a Quickbeam or Simple One?

2023-01-11 Thread JohnS
Thank you everyone for the tips/advice. I'm not planning to have a rear
rack on this bike, so the brake arm extension isn't an issue. Also I may or
may not mount the fenders that I have, my Crust LB-canti has them so not a
priority to have them on the QB.

Patch, so how do you like the touring/minimoto combination? Would say it
was better or as good as other brake set ups?

Thanks,

 John,

The Paul Minomotos are actually short-pull calipers, so you can use
the same short-pull levers that you would use with the
 touring/neo-retro
cantilevers. The Paul Motolites are the ones that use long-pull
 levers.

Hey all! I just swapped out my beefy Maxxis tires for some 2.25”
Schwalbe Allround tires. Would I be able to get by with the SimWorks x
Honjo Flat 65? Or would I need the Flat 80? And how’s the fit? Any input
 much appreciated.
