I have a 2005 Toyota Sienna and love it for bike transport (not too happy 
with Toyota recall service though). I often drive sag on local events and 
once was able to fit 2 road bikes and a recumbent along with the three 
riders in the van. No need to take off any wheels. Get decent mileage 
18-24mph and have almost 140,000 miles without any major repairs.

The driver has committed at least several violations if not felonies.

Hi all,

I have a gently used Brooks Cambium C17 in Rust. There are a few marks and

I estimate I have about 2000 miles on it. It was on my A. Homer Hilsen. I 
loved the way it felt but have switched to the carved version and love that 
even more.

Asking $90 which includes shipping to the lower forty-eight. PayPal friends 
and family preferred.

The pictures show it a little darker than in real life. You'll notice the 
lighter smudges on the left side of the saddle and around a couple rivets 
where I tried to clean it and also a little freying of the edges on the 
rear end.

I have both the green and orange mugs and love them - the only caution I 
would make is that the diameter of the opening is too tight for a 
Aeropress. Tried it and the press got stuck in the cup. Got it out and 
still enjoyed my coffee outside but it was a challange.

+1 on Keven - he is very chill. I last interacted with him on a visit to 
BB a couple weekends ago. He helped me conceptualize a new cockpit for my 
Homer based on a test ride on a Hunquapillar that Roman had set up for me. 
And he gave me a BB pin when I said that I got the last free Rivelo patch 
from John for being the 10th visitor to the new store in Portland.

I first met Keven when I picked up my first and only riv - a AHH - in Oct 
of 2010. It was a 65cm and apparenty he was the only one long enought to 
ride and configure it for me.

I was in a similar place many years ago with two young kids and needing a 
different work context - it was a tough choice but one that worked out. 
Hope it does for Keven as well.

I followed a similar path and got a pair of "army" (not sure which army) 
wool pants at good 'ol Andy & Bax in Portland. Heavy duty wool and buttons 
- took them to a local seamstress and had them converted to knickers - all 
in they were about $55 - they are very good for the winter but a bit of 
overkill for the rest of the seasons.

Check out the rides at the Portland Wheelman site (PWTC.com). They offer 
rides every day of the week that go all over PDX at various paces.
You'll get a good sense of the area and they almost always include a coffee 
stop.

[RBW] Knobbies for 26 Atlantis

Anne - I put RockRoads on my AHH and loved them for road (they had a pleasing 
whooshing sound) and dirt and sand ( though in limited amts). Gave up on them 
because of not being able to solve fender issues. I live in Portland!!
Then I got the Continental Cyclecross speed tire- it has a file tread in the 
middle and knobbies on the sides. ( Riv sells them sometimes) They were great 
for mixed terrain - I was able to keep up with several riders on full-on Mtn 
bikes on a ride with mostly dirt trails.
I only swapped them out to try the Compass Barlow Pass tires which are now my 
most favorite ( I know I am fickle).

I tried a cheap version on my touring bike -  don't know if it was VO but was 
disappointed. The clamping ring on the downtube would slip letting the wheel 
flop - tried padding and no padding under the band but just could not keep it 
tight finally took it off as the paint was being damaged. The pcs are somewhere 
on my workbench

I use all different bottles but esp in the winter I use stainless steel 
with cap covers - I ride lots of country roads where they manure the fields 
so the dust is a bit funky. I like to have a clean spout to drink from. The 
rattle of the bottles in the cages and the scraping sound when putting them 
in or taking out bothered me so I wrapped the the cages in a couple of 
wraps of handlebar tape on the front and sides and presto: tight fit and no 
noise!!

I also have this light and love it (I still have a dyno powered tail light 
as well). I would offer the caution that I have had it fall off its 
mounting, be it a leather or fabric loop, several times. Even if I have 
cinched it down as tight as possible with the mount. I have taken to using 
a zip tie to secure it. It is not cheap and I would hate to lose such an 
investment.

Hi Jim

I contacted Mark at Riv regarding upgrading the crankset on my Homer to a 
Sugino triple and he recommended a Shimano Claris FD-2403-B front derailer. 
They stock them for builds at Riv World Headquarters but don't have them in 
the catalog. It is not totally silver - the clamp is gray (lighter to my 
eye than in the attached pic). I believe it was only $27.00 and Mark spoke 
highly of them.

It was easy to install especially after a call to Mark who refreshed my 
memory as to the correct procedure - something to do with not running the

Hey Patrick - I met to respond regarding your click but got distracted (not a 
surprise). I had a similar experience while riding the STP (Seattle to 
Portland) last year and the guy I happened to be riding alongside, he was on a 
Riv, said that it often is a seat issue. Sure enough when I got home the next 
morning, I tightened the seat clamp and the noise went away.
This has happened once since then and the same cure worked.

Hi All,

I just switched out my last favorite rubber: Continental Cyclecross Speed 
700-42C's that I bot from Riv last year --- great ride and good for both 
smooth and gravel as well as mud and freezing surfaces (actually measured 
38mm on Mavic A319 rims at approx 60 lbs pressure).

I now am running the Compass Barlow Pass 700-38 extralight tan sidewalls. 
They measure 37.7mm at 45 lbs on the front and 37.8 at 55 lbs on the rear - 
on Mavic A319 wheels ( awesomely built by Jude at Sugar Wheelworks in PDX).

Have only run errands around town but they feel great - cushy, track 
beautifully (easy no hands riding) and seem to grip well in the usual PDX 
wet.

Have just got out of the hosp after a bout with pneumonia so I haven't been 
able to do any long rides but will report back when I put on some miles.

They fit my Oct 2013 AHH fine without fenders but with the SKSLonglows did not 
have enough clearance for the knobs. I found the SKS Velo Cross 55 fenders 
would work though they certainly don't look as nice

[RBW] Waitin' on my Riv--debating on Drops versus Albatross

Hi Tom...I am somewhat of a lurker too but have a few posts. I just changed the 
handlebars on my 2 yr old AHH from the Grand Bois Randonneur
Bars from Compass/Bicycle Quarterly to the One-on-One Midge bar. I know this is 
a rather unusual choice for the Rivers but so far so good( approx. 300km on 
them) 
For me they have as many diff hand positions as the GB's and are wider in the 
drops with still good access to the brakes and bar-end shifters.
No matter what the choice. I expect you'll love the ride

Hi Tom-

I have been running the Continental 42's for several months. I bot them 
from Riv and they were said to actually measure 38 mm which I found to be 
true. I have liked them - mainly riding on roads but with a few wild rides 
on gravel, dirt, frozen dirt etc. My only problem was finding fenders to 
mount and ended up with SKS Velo 65 Cross fenders. I could not find them in 
the states but had them shipped from Europe They are a bit ugly but very 
functional for the Portland weather and are quick release for the sunny 
days. I originally tried some Bruce Gordon Rock N' Roads which I loved but 
could not solve the fender problem so they found a home with another list 
member.

Great pics Smitty  Tommy - that is a beautiful area - I do the Gorge Ride 
every year: Dalles to Mosher Tunnels and back via Rowena Crest and last 
year the day before I rode out 8 mile road as a warm up. It is a beautiful 
route.

BTW the Gorge Ride is sponsored by the Friends of the Historic Columbia 
River Highway. It is on June 15th of this year. The Friends have done a 
great job of restoring and preserving the old highway with the goal of 
providing a route that will be completely off Rt 84 from Troutdale to the 
Dalles.

[RBW] Foss tubes

I had the same problem with a Foss tube - tried several times to find the hole 
with a water bath and no luck but when it was mounted and fully inflated I 
noticed that the leak was at the base of the stem- could hear it when the stem 
was deflected but it did not show up in the water bath under moderate inflation 
- very frustrating.

 hurt from smiling. It's nothing like the bikes I have ridden before. The 
 frame is responsive, accelerates well and comfortable. Not to mention, it's

 on.

 There are some benches and a little hang-out area right by the river... 
 that's the place. 

 Roll out at 11am... show up before that. 

 Even though the ride officially ends in St Johns, I'll be riding home 
 towards the Woodstock neighborhood if anyone wants to head that way too... 
 after eating tacos of course.  

 This is NOT a loop, but if any out-of-towners drive to the start and 
 aren't sure exactly how to get back to their car, I'll ride back to the 
 start with you... after eating tacos of course. 

 Also, In any of you NoPo folks are familiar with the Santa Cruz 
 Taqueria/Panaderia on Lombard St and can swing by and confirm if they'll be 
 open on Jan 1, that would be cool. I'm going on the assumption that they'll 
 be open, but am not sure. 

 Lastly, I'm inviting a couple non-Riv friends. You should do the same.

Hey Smitty - I like the idea as long as it is not too early or too wet. I 
usually do the BTA or Wheelman ride which starts at 10am down on Naito 
Parkway by the battleship memorial. It could be a starting point for a Riv 
ride to more interesting spots.

[RBW] Anybody have great (or lousy) experience with waterproof iPhone5 mounts on your Riv? I need ones to investigate (and ones to avoid)

Hi Derek - I had the Biologic case (which is a battery that can be charged off 
a dyno hub with their equipment) The set up was for a iPhone 4 but I expect 
they will have one for the 5 soon if not already. It was a robust case 
waterproof etc added about 3hrs run time when using the iPhone as a cyclometer

Here is my own photo-take on the ride - what Andy didn't mention was that 
when I picked him up he said another rider was going to follow us. It was 
Tommy who I met when he and Manny were doing the coast tour last August. I 
was in California and stopped in Tomales Bay at Hog Island Oysters on my 
way back to OR and there were Tommy  Manny. Small world !!!
