[RBW] Re: Mystery bike in April Blahg

2019-04-25 Thread Garth

Of course you can wish and let it be known !

I really LOVE bikes that have distinctive color. When the 64 Clem-L came
out (it's hard to even say that silly name, it's like naming your daughter
Pete-L !) when I saw it was colored Grilver my heart sank to the
floor. It was like offering the Coookie Monster a box of plain ol'
crackers . Not num num ! The heart wants what the heart wants and and
all "reasoning" is powerless in It's Presence .

Of course it coulda been repainted Orange or whatever and renamed
Clementine but at a considerable extra expense with shipping. Nah !

The general idea is that this is referring to a male and female version of
the Hilly Bike, like the Betty/Gomez and Clem/Clementine-His/Ladies. Yes,
the other frame likely the Anniversary one.

My own comment about the male/female names It's a darn shame Riv caved
in for whatever reason and changed Clementine to Clem-L. Clementine was and
is the best name ever for that bike. Oh m' darlin' Clementine where
art thou m' darlin' Clementine ? !There's no polite way to say
it.Clem-L just plain sucks ! Ahahahahaaha !

[RBW] Re: Dealing with verbal harrassment on the road

2019-04-22 Thread Garth

People gonna say what they're gonna say.. it's not like there's
anything to do about it ... just let 'em ramble on and move on. Yes but
what if ... ? You could ask that all day long about everything
and the answer is the same. What if has nothing to with what is, the living
present.

The most hilarious guy was a passenger in a car with the windows rolled up.
He was yelling something as the car went around me . the window was
closed of course, so the only one who heard it was the driver ! Just too
funny ! As for all the honkers and grumblers on the road they come
and they go. By far most people are very friendly, the other day a gruff
looking guy in a ol' pickup slowed down as I had stopped along the side of
the road as I was listening to the frogs in the wetlands he simply
asked my if everything was alright . I gave a big thumbs up and a smile
there's lots of good people around ... far more than not.

I find most people quite friendly really I'm rather communicative on
the road and rather enjoy it. I don't live in a high traffic area, the cars
a often few and minutes can pass between cars. There's an older man and his
wife who I stop and chat with sometimes at a farm i like ride around. He
used to work in the steel mills, like many in the are did. Hands of iron
and a heart of gold really lots of damm nice people around. I love
riding around local small farms/farmers I wave to all of them without
regard... and yes ... I waive to the cows and horses and wild turkeys and
goats and birds and pretty much anyone and anything. Riding and walking
slow and without an agenda to me is way to get around and meet people like
I never could otherwise. I don't need names . just being here is
priceless.

[RBW] Re: New bike woes - Albatross bars and Brooks B17 Special saddle

2019-04-22 Thread Garth

Speaking for myself, Saddle fore/aft on a given bike is a rather fixed
position, meaning there is a sweet spot of "centered-ness" within the
frame. As far as I'm concerned you don't change this just top get more
reach.

Whether or not you're there , It's really an intuitive sense. You should be
able to pedal no handed and feel smack dab centered in the bike, not
falling forward or back.

As for getting the saddle back further if needed the best choice bar none
is the Nitto S84. It has over 40mm of setback. Don't cheap out and get the
lesser quality VO with only 30mm.

As for the reach and height of bars, sheesh that is again is really
intuitive. An Albatross bar *may* allow you to ride more upright if you
wish, but the amount is also a function of frame design/reach, bar and stem
and rider, all together combined. No single part exists and functions in a
vacuum everything works with everything.

All that said enjoy the ride :)

Cinza, I didn't think of this earlier, but I can easily touchdown my toes
of one foot solidly while stopped on my 60cm. Bombadil, solidly as solid
can be. I never do this though while as my locale and roads ridden don't
require any extended stops. Off road if I need to put my toes down I just
do it without thinking. I'm some 75 inches tall with average limb length.

2019-04-20 Thread Garth

FWIW, if you can pedal mid-foot instead of on your toes you can lower the
saddle considerably, allowing at least one foot to tip toe on the ground
when stopped.

If not, many european and Dutch designed city bikes are designed for a one
foot touchdown. Here's a couple links that may spark your curiosity.

Sorry Steve, no standard. A standard to be a standard must be universal,
independent of brands of parts, frame or builder. British BB threading,
that's a standard.

[RBW] Re: What're the best cantilever brakes out there?

2019-04-15 Thread Garth

I too find that price in no guarantees anything more than the expenditure
itself. For me the best canti per given frame is the one that works. Oh I
know how that sounds, but from the all the bikes I have/had with canti
brakes, no 2 are ever alike. For one there is no standard spacing
vertically or horizontally due to limitless frame designs and constructor
sensibilities. It's part of the canti "mystique" I suppose.
For every "this *whatever* is best" ... I ask for just whom would that be
best for, and it seems best for none other than the claim itself, which is
nobody !

What's the canti best brake ?.
*Whaddaya got, let's try it ! *

Shimano BR-MC70's, M73x series , Suntour XC Pro and Tektro CR710 all have
worked well for me. The CR720 ...not so far... maybe on some other bike
they'll work. Kool Stop Salmon or black pads both work fine. I only use the
basic straddle carriers, the rest are good for taking up storage space it
seems. I prefer posted pads too , especially in the front to clear the
fork. KS pads can easily be shortened with a pair of snips and a file. The
pads internal frame only goes back to the last notch in the rubber,
allowing the easy mod. Pads used to be centered in the 80's so clearance
was never an issue. I find not one thing beneficial about offset or even
longer pads than road sized.

Thanks for the heads up about the Altus canti James, I may get a set. It's
funny how "low end" parts can be overlooked, when they're often quite fine.

[RBW] Re: Threadless Headset Questions

DP, this video may assist you. The fellow named WheeliePete from YT has a
way of explaining the whole threadless system in an easy to understand
fashion, complete with hand drawn blueprint of "how it works". This is
what I do appreciate about YT, the guys who post how-to videos in easily
understandable manners. Reminds me of my brother, a former military and
airline flight mechanic who can simplify literally anything, as really
everything is basically doohickeys we play around with. Adults give them
important names and such and make them "big deals" for gain, kids call know
them as toys and just play with them for the fun of fun !

I've never had a threadless HS, and after watching this it's like, "oh,
that was simple". Threaded HS are also simple in their own way. Using
lock nuts wasn't the only way . American Classic once made their Trilock HS
that used a threaded collet and a 2.5mm wrench to adjust it. It was
wonderfully simple but aluminum was not a good choice for the collet as it
would crack over time.

[RBW] Re: Time trial 'bike' - is it a thing?!

2019-04-04 Thread Garth

Such design was in vogue in the 80's/90's. That's a track bike,
obviously, and here is road TT bike ridden by 5 time TDF Champ Miguel
Indurain, A Pinarello ridden in 1992. He's 6'2 .
http://www.vintageluxurybicycles.com/indurain-tt

And some of various designs from the 80's on up. Before that riders used
their regular road bike for time trials, though they may have done some
extreme weight savings measures like drilling holes in various parts.
https://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/racing/time-trialling-through-the-ages-25190
http://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/extras/drillium-extras.html

The only difference nowadayze is that everything for racing is carbon, but
the premise remains the same , speed speed speed ! . minimize weight
and aero drag. While these designs may appear odd in comparing to a Riv
kinda bike, a bike is still a bike regardless. We all have our "reasons" ,
none of which are any better/more/worse/less than any other. As if any
bike/ride/rider is more/less "special" than any other ! HaH ! Oh yes
listen to the cries yes-but . yes-but oh the yes-buts
. yes-but So What !Ahahaahaaha ! . and keep a rollin' on
our merry way ... over hill and over 'dale . yonder and hither
round and and round we go . and ever ever still here are are .

How many riders of bikes "like ours" can ride 188km on the backroads of
Colombia and Africa on a time trial bike ? Imagine the screams and cries
where's my big tires where's my long chainstays where's my
upright position where oh where is my darling Clementine !
Ahahahahahahaa ! Mad good riding for sure !

[RBW] Re: Midweight Hoody Recommendation

2019-03-19 Thread Garth

I like their clothing too Dave, so much so I bought 2 of the Squamish
Hoodies a few years ago in different colors, on sale of course ! They
easily make the best fitting hoods and with functional adjustments if
called for. I get the price consideration, but do it all jackets like
those tend to be high priced to start with. Not that they need to , but
because they can. I'm not recommending the Squamish by any means, I like
it because it's high breathability and un-totally-windproofness lends
itself to a great range of temps and activities walking or riding or
whatever, so I can customize what I wear underneath, which is basically
anything. That's why I never bought a all-in-one kinda jacket as it has a
fixed amount of insulation whereas just the shell offers unlimited choices
underneath or over top. Sometimes I'll even wear it with a Mountain
Hardwear super thin wind resistant vest that has a mesh back, for extra
wind buffer on the chest then take one or the other off as my body temp
raises. The Squamish hood is just darn perfect too, it fits like it was
custom made. It too has a high retail price, much moreso than even a
Patagucci Houdini that for me sucked in every way and wouldn't wear if was
free. The "just works for me" factor trumps whatever the Squamish may
cost, I would pay retail for it if needed .

Hey Dave . don't let the buts butt you from wearing what suits you.
Backcountry even has some colors for 30% off , so no excuses !

You can buy it now, or get another jacket you didn't want and pay even more
later for what you originally had in mind. It's not a consumable like a

[RBW] Re: T780 Front derailleur: which chainstay angle 63, 66, 69? Sam Hillborne and/or Cheviot FD-T780

2019-03-09 Thread Garth

The 63-66 angle is for 29ers and road bikes with more drop than say a
26" wheel mtb which would use the 66-69. If you look at all the Shimano
road FD specs they specify 61-66 CS angle. You must remember too that the
XT, even the trekking group are designed for the 50mm chainline of an
outboard crank. Riv mentions that with a XD crank you'd need a 113mm BB for
the XT FD to clear.

Shimano Trekking cranks come stock with 26/36/48, close enough. It's not
that it can't take a 24, it's that the Trekking group comes with a 26 low,
48 high, 22t limit. *To Shimano that is Shimano's limit, that limit of
their manufacture. *For everyone else, it's whatever works for whom
whatever works.

[RBW] Re: Ride in the wind -- or not?

2019-02-16 Thread Garth

I really don't mind about what the wind speed is for riding as far
exertion, it's that with my narrow roads and not being able to have full
control over the steering in the swirls and gusts it's not worth it. My
Frankin bike with lower trail handles fairly well in any wind, the Bombadil
can be downright scary at times as in a high cross wind I'm a mere
passenger, wherever the winds blows . so blows the bike and I and it's
non-negotiable. I've been "driven" many a times. This would be fun off
road and in open land but I have no such place around here to ride. On
such days I go for walk in the hills that I walk in the winter. On top of
the highest hill in summer is rather fun as the wind is highest up there.
In the winter I don't ride and when we get lake effect micro snow squalls I
go up there and with layer upon layer of hills watching it all unfold is
priceless and indescribable. I laugh like a little kid the whole time.
It's like a living portrait, completely alive ! There is dog that lives on
that hill in home that was originally built by my uncle in the 70's. Since
I can recall every time she is outside and sees me she gallops like a horse
with big grin on her face in eager anticipation of walking with me around
the neighborhood. That's Shelby girl !

[RBW] Re: Mark's Rack on skinny tired bike

2019-01-20 Thread Garth

Of course you can mount it up front, whether or not you like how it
handles you'll just have to experience for yourself. I have a Franklin
custom bike that takes 25-35mm tires and I tried a Nitto double strut
front/rear rack(a full size Mark's rack essentially) up front and thought
it would be great, but I didn't like the feeling of any weight up front
with it so I took it off. It had nothing to do with tire size, it was the
geometry and all that jazz.

2019-01-19 Thread Garth

Riv advised so for a very good reason do heed it as they don't want
unhappy customers anymore than you want to be one !

For the most part bikes for tall people not only need to to be taller but
longer in overall reach from center, without the need for very tall/long
reach stems and/or long(>25mm) setback seatposts. Save your cash for a
custom as you can pay for it now, or buy some frames that don't fit and end
up selling... amounting to more time/effort/angst/$$ than if you had just
bought the custom one first of all.

[RBW] Re: Lack of Betty Foys for sale.

2019-01-18 Thread Garth

It's not a mystery, a Betty is a Betty and there's only one Betty... as
a Cheviot is Cheviot etc. etc. They are each perfect just as they
are. The web , however one views it, isn't all-inclusive, not ALL or even
remotely so. For example, it's like looking in a printed newspaper at the
classified and assuming that's all that is for sale, when it's not ALL at
all ! Assuming another medium could list more for sale will show more, but
it's still not ALL. Only ALL is ALL and ALL is Infinity ;-) .

Even tandems can be coupled and cased. As for fitting in a case for

a case for an *atypical *long wheelbase bike such a the ones Riv sells. I

Re: [RBW] Re: Of Fishnet Long Johns and Boiled Wool

2019-01-06 Thread Garth
Try no baselayer tops at all PM, just regular polyester fleece. My
favorites are basic fleece like Polartec's 100, 200 and WindPro of varying
weights. I tried this on a whim one cold 20 degree winters day, wearing
both a 100 1/4 zip and 200 full zip jacket with a LL Bean supplex nylon 1/2
zip Anorak over them while hiking up and down my local hills. All very
loose fitting. The Anorak is a way oversized vintage XXL tall , while I
usually wear large in most clothing. It has drawcords around the hood and
waist and bottom hem, and it's a good 32 inches long to cover the rear and
hips so opening it up for a chimney cooling effect is great. Since there
is no base fabric to absorb any perspiration, it evaporates very quickly
off the skin. Any moisture that contacts the fleece dries very quickly from
body heat and there is no "rebound" effect of a chill as I never get too
wet and hot. Staying "just right" feeling is very easy. It's all pretty
cool !

[RBW] Re: Another Riv Financial Situation Thread

2019-01-02 Thread Garth

I'm perfectly happy riding with what some may call "old" stuff. Old
just how "old" is the present -at-hand anyways ? No joke. I like that
at least smeone else likes "old" stuff at-hand also. The present-at-hand
has never worn out and never will. Just because there is other stuff
called "new" doesn't and cannot alter working stuff from working. So in
regards to businesses selling "old technology" , all I can say is why not
? I also like "old designs" of clothing, stuff that fits loose and relaxed
and supple fabrics that feel pleasant next to the skin. I love high rise
pleated pants with tapered cuffs. The current trend of
minimalizing/slimming/tapering I have no taste for. The same with bike
stuff, I have no taste for the latest stuff. Is there a market for "old"
stuff ? Of course there is. Take a look at places that sell "used" stuff,
or redesigned/reissued/recreated stuff at-hand. What difference does it
make to me when or where or how the stuff I prefer "came to be", it's
his-story ? None of course. There's no time like present, literally and
absolutely !

As for so called "experts on success", hah hah neither .

Yes ! I do this with smooth post canti pads. I never ever ever found
any benefit to the long pads when they became a thing in the 90's. The
Suntour XC Pro original pads were Superbe Pro road sized and shaped and are
the best brakes I've used. The Kool Stops have an internal frame in the pad
but it's not the full length of the pad, it only goes to the last notch in
the pad, which lend itself perfectly to a chop with some good shears or
anything else you want to use. Depending on the frame, the frame end may
require a touch of filing.

[RBW] Re: Putting My Foot Down

2018-12-12 Thread Garth

Lower your saddle and/or take no thought about it. Take a look at your
"average" European cyclist you see in the streets... the people for whom
cycling is simple a part of everyday living. The men and women who ride in
everything business suits and loafers to full dresses and high heels. What
I see is no one adhering to any such subjective "rule" about saddle height
and leg bend angle and all the techno mumbo jumbo that really has no basis
in truth because if it did, everyone who didn't adhere to it would "suffer
the dire consequences" that "saddle position theories" claims will happen
if you don't worship it. Tell that to grandma in Amsterdam who's been
riding here whole life her saddle is too low, that she can ride
better/faster/stronger ... that what she's doing is "wrong" and can be
"improved", and see how that goes !

Re: [RBW] Re: What do Rivendell Riders wear for wind-stopping hats for helmet-less winter riding?

2018-11-12 Thread Garth
Yes ! Balaclavas are my favorite winter headwear. I have thin ones,
thick vintage Patagonia Powerstretch ones and this wondrous super thick
Wind Pro X-Treme Hood from Serius that I wear out walking when it's near
zero outside or I want some instant heat indoors on a cold day. Encircling
the whole head sans face rather than just a hat does wonders. Even the a
thin balaclava worn under any cap works .

2018-11-12 Thread Garth

Any hat made from Polartec Wind Pro specifically. It's a denser weave than
regular fleece, sticking to me a "just right" balance . The marketing claim
says 4x the wind resistance compared to regular Polartec (100, 200 etc.).
Forget Windstopper or anything with a barrier/laminate as it's sweaty and
inhibits hearing.

Even layering a thin hat over a thin balaclava works really well , 2 thin
layers rather than one thicker layer.

[RBW] Re: Winter wool baselayer rec needed

I can only speak for my own experience, and that is while it sounds great
in theory "wool doesn't stink so I don't have to wash it as often"
while it may not smell like a synthetic gone afoul , it does not mean that
it feels "clean" or very good the next day after sweating in it. I've
found no matter what the material is after sweating in it I prefer not to
wear it again until washed. I wash synthetics daily in a bucket and drip
dry in the bathroom in winter or outside in summer. It takes about 5-10
minutes . I have synthetics decades old that have no odd odors.

Regardless, their are endless distinctions as exactly where/how
thumbshifters can be mounted/used. The "best way" is whatever way is
perfectly obvious for whom it is perfectly obvious, always totally unique,
never the same twice !

[RBW] Re: Silver 2 thumb shifters on the Blahg

2018-10-26 Thread Garth

A long lever fits and index finger rather nicely, great for reaching down
to the dt. Bar top shifting as I have used my Sun Tours since '84 is more
of a rotating motion like turning a key in a lock. Having a short thick
lever, more volume in hand, makes it bit easier for those tiny movements
than a long thin lever can.

Adapting dt levers top bar use seemed to me more out the lack of anyone
wanting to manufacture a Sun Tour-like shape. So everyone started copying
each other to build more adapters for levers and calling them
"thumbshiters" . It's like buying a generic version of something and
saying "it works/tastes *like* the original, but it is most assuredly *unlike
it *".

DT cable stops are not suitable for tapping. You're better off buying a
set of clamp-on DT shifters from ebay. Campy, Sun Tour, Simplex, Shimano
and more all made them as frames formerly had no bosses for shifters at
all. I know the Campy ones at least the shitfters themselves are removable
and can be replaced with any other dt shifter.

2018-10-03 Thread Garth

Around here in this little corner of O-Hi-O there are few cyclists. I once
saw another cyclist about a month I go, thought I do see banana peels on
the side of the road more often, maybe once every 2-3 weeks. I guess
tossing the peel into the grass must just be too laborious for the poor
soul hah ! The "bike store" in town is Wally World(that's Wal-Mart
for the unimaginable). Always stocked with fresh bikes ready to roll off
the shiny "showroom floor" kinda literally !

I did meet one cyclists a few years back, a lawyerly fella who knew what
a Rivendell Bombadill sorta was at least, but apparently it was unworthy
compared to the plas-tique space ship he was riding Va va varm
and away he went into the statosphere faster than light . onto the
wings of angels I suppose ..or so the promise goes . ahahahahahaa !

Someone did compliment the ol' warhorse once though "Hey ... you
ride that old thing everywhere " . Yes I do ... I certainly do !

[RBW] Re: Recommend bag sized bike pump, please.

2018-09-30 Thread Garth

Is there a reason why it must fit into a bag ?

Topeak does make another mount for the Mini/Road Morph, part # Tpd-2C .
This mount, unlike the one included, mounts under the bottle cage and the
pump sits on the side.

https://www.todson.com/products/wb-bracket-for-rd-morph-peak-dx-mt-rock-harp-mini-tpd

A 7" or under to fill your tires as wished for , I doubt that's gonna
happen. You'd be better off using a CO2/pump combo if you need it that
small.

Myself I'd rather have a pump I like using and mount it on the side, rather
than buying a compromised pump based on limited length that will be an
exercise in futility when I really need it to work.

Or, just don't get flats :) No flats, no worries.

If I were get something new today, it may be either another pickup or full

intended for commercial use as in not a passenger version that comes with

In regards to such rims , I suspect any bike shop that has a supplier
catalog either in paper or web could look up such a re-quest for specific
width 27.5 rims, but it would help if you had certain specific models in

Or, contact mfr. distributors listed on their website(if listed) , as
that's who the mfr. would direct you if you contacted them directly.

[RBW] Re: ISO: sweepy silver 31.8 handlebar

2018-09-16 Thread Garth

Jeremy, According to Merry Sales the Albatross bar comes in 3 widths, the
31.8 being 56cm wide, what the original Cr-mo version was. When I bought a
HT Al Alba the first thing I noticed compared to my 56cm steel bars was the
curve was a smaller radius and I didn't like it one bit. It also wasn't
55cm as promoted. The Merry Sales page explains it. The curve of the 56
steel to me is perfect and it appears the 31.8 version uses that shape.
I've not seen a 55 steel to know if it has the same curve and the 56
versions. No website that sells the B352 mentions all these subtle yet not
insignificant variations of width and curve. I can see why some people do
not like the HT Al versions, they ruined the perfect curve !

https://merrysaleswholesale.mysapanywhere.com/products/212352357531680-nitto-hbar-b352-albatross

The Jones bars are 31.8 for Drw . More room for the hands and wider, 45
degree sweep.

I can't tell exactly the reach/height of your stem as shown, but a stem with
more rise, like a Dirt Drop will certainly offer more height so you could keep
the bar.

The VO Porteur offers 40mm more rise, if that is indeed enough, I assume you
are aware that they come in 22.2 or 23.8 ? With a 23.8 the bar end levers you
have will fit perfectly.

finger. I find it more easily accessed too , I can't put it into words
it'll just be apparent as you use them.

Kai, I hear that often by those that have never used them. I've gone
through some brush and frankly I can't see it happening even if I tried. If
you are running THAT close into really knarly stuff, you could be brought
down regardless of the lever, not necessarily the lever. If we wanna play
the "anythings possible angle", gotta play it all the way for every "part"
including the rider !

[RBW] Re: Would it be fun to have an all SILVER group?

2018-08-30 Thread Garth

Oh heck, I don't mean to diminish the idea of such a group Lum . It would be
great if every part, no matter what it was, was offered in the colors you
wanted without having to compromise at all in any way. I find myself saying
that as if it's not possible, but says who and who made them any sort of
authority on "everything" ? The so called local-authorities, only speak to
"save their own ass", to keep up the facade of knowing anything more than what
they see and hear locally. Like a computer can only tell you what it was
programmed to put out, whether it's universally true or not it could never know
for again, it's "knowing" is limited to what it's told to "know".

So just what is possible, what already exists beyond one's own belittling
beliefs of limitation ? No man knows or will know, that's for sure. Infinity is
Infinite, afterall and that is undeniable 😀

Life Rocks !

[RBW] Re: Would it be fun to have an all SILVER group?

2018-08-30 Thread Garth

Fwiw , As noted by Rich @riv the hubs are no longer offered. The only thing
I see a possibility of is maybe a rim for the upcoming mtn. bikey. The
parts they do offer seem more out of necessity , even the crank as it is
offered in lengths unavailable from Sugino, and XD isn't that great of a
crank at all frankly.

As for the rest I don't see it happening for 2 reasons: 1.
Cost(manufacturing, R&D, lots of parts to $tock, etc.) and 2. Already
existing alternatives.

I'm at the place in my life where I really don't care if all parts are all
this or that just parts that work/fit well. I spend about 0 hours
contemplating "the looks" of bikes ... no knock on anyone that does.

Max, Apparently my reply may have been misread as I pointed to the *CR710* *for
narrow spacing(they are designed for cross bikes with 33mm+/- tires)*, not
the 720. The 710 costs about $20-25 each.

[RBW] Re: Weight weenie report. Dia Compe 980 brakes

2018-08-29 Thread Garth
Max, Any cantilever intended for a cyclocross frame is by nature for
narrow spacing.

You might try a Tektro CR 710 for example. These are easy on the pocketbook
AND work well. I replace all Tektro pads with Kool Stop blacks or salmons
even before installing. I have this brake on my Bomba front and it's
fantastic. Very firm, immediate response and strong braking, no squishies.
It would also work on my canti road bike with narrow spacing, which I
currently use SunTour XC Pro and those are outstanding !

The CR710 seems to get overlooked for whatever reason compared to the 720,
which on the Bomba was decidedly "just okay".

[RBW] Re: Bar end shifters on Boscos?

2018-08-24 Thread Garth
I'd have to see your bars to know what you're talking about as to your
current setup and what's "in the way". If it is the setup that riv seems
to promote, with the shifters literally "at hand", then yea . not my
cup 'o tea but whatever floats the boat. What about putting the shifters
more forward of the brake levers ? Or, if the bars are steel, bar end
brake levers and putting some top mounted "regular" thumb shifters on the
top of the bar where you like ?

As for the bar end shifters, only you'd know if that'd work well as only
you are you the rider, and thus no one can tell you what that's like, since
only you are you ;-) !!!

I do clear also but for colors try a (if you have one) hobby/model/craft
shop that sells Testors Enamel paint in the little 1/4 oz. jars . My frame
builder suggested them if I needed a color and even suggested which ones to
mix. I used Testors as a kid too, for the diy model kits and rockets we
had fun with .

45 colors !

[RBW] Re: QB Seatpost Diameter

2018-08-16 Thread Garth

All the QB I have seen online with specs list 27.2, which goes along with
the many S84 lugged seatposts on many. I'm pretty sure that is only 27.2.

Are you using a very accurate caliper ?
