2019-03-16 Thread It's me Ryan

Hey everyone, I have been replying but nothing has been going through so I
figure I'll try this one more time before emailing the moderators. First
off thank you all. The emails for trades etc have been pretty cool and
interesting too, but unfortunately the only trade/partial trade I'd be
willing to do is for a Sinewave Beacon or Romanceur. I went to the bike
shop and talked to them about shipping. It will cost $65 to pack and $100
for shipping (bikeflights) or $65 to pack and you send me a shipping label.

FYI the saddle is crap, its only on there really in case a local wants to
test ride it.

@George Yup thats mine! A few things swapped since he shot it but yes I
know I will regret it at least some.
@Mark - Joe is correct - quill Bullmoose, nitto cable hanger, top nut,
spacers, threaded top race.
@joe - Hey Joe, Im getting 520mm center to top

Thank you all

I'm still in. I talked to Johnny (aka Ultra Romance) and Troy from Crust about
it at French Fender Day. It sounds like some of the off road sections might
require larger tires but a lot of the route will be on quiet paved roads.
They're going to post three routes of varying distances later in the week.
Johnny and Troy thought the shorter ride could be made junior friendly so I'll
probably be there with my 8 and 10 year old CCAPers. My boys will be on their
CX bikes; I'll probably be riding my Legolas or Homer. We may start later in
the day so that we can be in the area for the swap meet, party and bike demo at
4PM.

Yup. Two years ago, I did the Green River Tour with one kid on a trailer

great event (and admittedly, that could have happened anywhere). I've also

Very helpful. So, comparing:

1) the 56.5 top tube length with 73 seat tube angle of the Legolas;

2) the Homer's 58.5 top tube length, 72 seat tube angle, and current 90mm
stem; and

3) my second-hand Custom's 57.5 top tube length,72 seat tube angle, and
current 90mm stem...

I think I need another 90mm stem. Let me know if I'm missing anything or
my math is off. As always, thanks for the help. This forum continues to

[RBW] Re: Becoming an "Unracer"

Great story that, like others, follows a path similar to my own (add a bunch of
injuries to my story). That said, my nine year old started racing cyclocross
this year. While I know my competitive days are behind me, it has been a blast
to go around the race course with my kids and has fueled a lust for a Legolas.

[RBW] Re: SOMA xpress tires

2016-09-09 Thread Call Me Jay
I've been using them on my 650b Homer for about a 1000 miles. Two flats so
far (one was a roofing nail). Great commuter and all-rounder tire. While
I appreciate the super supple Challenges on my go-fast Custom Road, the
Somas ain't bad either---they've handled the glassy streets of Hartford,
dirt of D2R2 and everything in between with confidence and reliability. I
usually run them 55/60 with a commuter load and bit softer when not loaded
up. How low do others go?

[RBW] Re: How was your (Bike) Labor Day?

2016-09-06 Thread Call Me Jay
I did 21 of the 116 miles of the Detour de Connecticut on my Custom with my
nine year old on Saturday. On Sunday, I drove to New Hampshire to pick-up my
new project "beater bike"---a 1970s Peugeot PX50. I took the PX for a 1.5 hour
spin and quickly missed the more generous gearing of my Homer. People were
tougher back then I guess. Afterwards, I got in another 1.5 on my Custom with
my boys. Solid weekend. I'm grateful for sure.

[RBW] The New England Elements, a Homer and an Outdoor Bike Rack

2016-08-15 Thread Call Me Jay
I'm starting a new job tomorrow at an employer with an outdoor bike rack.
I'm neurotic and spoiled---my last employer had a bike rack in the parking
garage. The 20 mile roundtrip ride will be much more enjoyable on my Homer
but I'm concerned leaving it out in the elements. Getting an old Peugeot
or Bridgestone as a bad weather bike is an option but I've done the beater
commuter bike thing before and would rather be on my Homer. Any
suggestions?

I wanted to post an update to a question that I asked the group a while back:
Despite not having a low-trail fork, can you successfully put a rando bag on a

Homer still handles great with a light load in the bag and is now even more
"helleously versatile". And...it almost matches my other Sackville stuff.
Kudos to Grant and the folks at VO.

[RBW] Challenge Tire Woes and 700x30 options

2016-06-22 Thread Call Me Jay
I want to love Challenge tires but we're having a difficult relationship. I
have a set a of Challenge Almanzos. While they live up to their billing as
supple, comfy tires, the tires and matching latex tubes aren't confidence
inspiring. Last Summer, I had a tire with less than 50 miles delaminate on me
(it was replaced under warranty). This Summer, I'm on my third or fourth not
so cheap latex tube---all have failed right around the valve stem without any
apparent reason. Help! What am I doing wrong?

Alternatively, can anyone recommend another mixed terrain and/or road tire that
measures around 700x30. I'm assuming most 32s won't fit--I have a Custom with
old school Campy short reach brakes to maximize clearance. Thanks.

not a Jack Brown tire (700x33) will fit without fenders? I'm using an Open

any insight?

[RBW] Quick Swapping of Wald Basket on Front Rack

2014-09-08 Thread Call Me Jay
I'm thinking of getting a front rack and Wald basket for my newish Homer
for commuting use. I already have a Sackville Shop Sack so it seems like a
no brainer. That said, I'd like to able easily take off the basket for
weekend rides with a rando bag without having to cut zip ties. Kind of a
hassle and a bit wasteful. Any suggestions?

[RBW] Re: How the Heck Do I Attach Photos?

2014-09-01 Thread Call Me Jay
Jim,

To the extent that it helps others, I think that I discovered the source of
my newbie posting woes. My Safari browser was somehow loading the mobile
iOS version of the site on my Mac. Not sure how this happened (maybe it
was syncing to my phone) but after I searched for the site and then added a
new bookmark for the Bunch, all of the functionality that you described is
now visible and usable. Thanks again.

On Friday, August 29, 2014 1:34:30 PM UTC-4, Cyclofiend Jim wrote:

Recently, there have been a number of new group members (and some
silverbacks...) who have been flummoxed by the non-intuitive way you add
images (photos) to a post. In addition to the posts I've passed through,
there have been several each week for the past few months.

In the past, we had a socially agreed upon tenet of _NOT_ posting images
directly to the group, as many members accessed the group through email and
dial-up connections. It impacted connection times for many members
needlessly, as some folks simply didn't view the images on certain threads,
yet had to wait while they downloaded. While email-only access is still a
widely-used choice, the latter has become less and less of an issue. Of
course, mobile devices do keep this relevant.

I still don't think it's particularly courteous to other group members to
inflict a slow-churn of downloading 8 or 10 high resolution images by
attaching them to threads they may or may not be following. In my mind,
new bike images, epic ride chronicling and things like that should be
posted separately to Flickr (TERAbytes for free!) Picasa, Google drive,
cloud storage, etc. There are so many posting options now, it's kind of
 mind boggling.

But one or two teaser images, with a link to the rest, seems alright to
 me.

I strongly feel that FOR SALE images should be shared in that manner (i.e.
NOT attached, but with a link to the images) as well. Again, not a
stamp-my-foot-and-delete-a-thread opinion, just that most group members
aren't interested in what you have for sale. A link to images seems much
 more appropriate there.

However, as we are having more technical discussions, often members are
supplying specific phone-snapped images which provide an excellent answer
to the question. And it's these which deserve to be in threads, enhancing
 the discussions.

With that in mind, here's how you do it. Illustrated with images

Step One - when you post or reply to a post, you should see a little
skuemorphic paper clip doohickey. To the right of that will be the magic
 words Attach a File

 Click on that.

Step Two - you should get an upload window, and you can drag and drop
(with certain...well, most... browsers) and an option to select from your
 computer.

Now, some of that functionality won't necessarily work from iOS or Android
OS's. So, there's that. Maybe someone can share an image to this thread
from their iPhone, iPad or Android device.

 Hope that helps!

Alford,

I'm new to the forum and thought I inserted photos correctly but apparently
not. If you're a member of V-Salon you can see the photos across the hall
here:

How do you post photos on here anyways?

[RBW] Re: Was Redemption, now fly fishing

2014-08-26 Thread Call Me Jay
I took up fly fishing about a year ago and it now rivals cycling as my favorite
outlet. I've being try to combine the two when possible. Last weekend at
D2R2, I stuffed one pocket full of fly fishing gear, strapped my tenkara rod to
my rear rack and fished the Deerfield River on the way back to the finish.
After the post ride dinner and beers, I put on my waders and fished the river
again until dark. Epic day for a guy like me.

That Homer with the fly rod belongs to me.

Think these are the three Rivs that you saw along Green River Road.

It was great to see so many Rivs in one place. Anyone else headed up to the
Kearsarge Klassic in a few weeks?
