[RBW] Re: Hilsen vs. rambouillet
If these bikes are drop bar setups with exact same saddle and bars and hoods, measure these measurements of the bike you want to duplicate in cm: Saddle setup: 1.Seat height 2.Seat tilt 3.Seat nose fore/aft to center of stem bolt measurement Last, 4.Saddle height from floor to saddle top Bar/stem setup: 5.Drop bar tops from floor to bar tops measured at close to the stem clamp. 6.Seat nose fore/aft to deepest part of brake hoods (along the inside curve where your hand rests on the hood.). Note tilt of bars on reference bike before measuring and recreate. If profile shows bar ramps in line with stem extension, etc. #6 is the last thing you do once you get the bar height and tilt done. Get the left lever in place where you want it, remove bars and level them by getting the right lever adjusted with a table as reference like in the RBW handlebar setup video. Then reinstall at the correct bar to saddle height. Combining the results of 4 and 5 gets you your bar height to saddle measurement to see how many cm below or above saddle your bars are. Measurements of saddle and bar height from floor must be taken with bike in same upright position for accuracy. Adjusting hoods, individually moving them up or down along ramps to duplicate 6 can be tough. Recreating these saddle and stem/bar measurements can be frustrating and a balancing act. Set up the saddle measurements first. The do bar tilt, height, and hoods last. Make sure the stem bolt is tight or your #3 measurement will be off. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Re: VO Constructeur Front Rack on a Ram - HELP
I have had a similar experience, though the VO Rando rack worked on my Bleriot after bending the tang over the sp brake. I adjusted for tilt by bending the tang weld point iirc. Racks made for sp brakes are few and involve bending tangs or using sliding tangs and adjustable struts like the Marks. Potential failure points if you don't stay on top of them and check for tightness periodically. This is why any future bike I purchase I would like to be a canti brake bike so nothing but air is between tire and fork crown for easy and direct fender and rack-ability. Plus I could then use a rack with all welded joints and attach directly to fork crown and braze ons. The sp brake racks all have either a tang to bend or adjustable pivot points which makes me a little uncomfortable about bolts loosening with time and failing. They are not optimal front racks for this reason in my mind. Though I do love the VO and M18 on my bikes. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Re: Christmas Clementine
Best looking Clementine shots I have seen so far. Normally, to my eyes, the shots on the RBW website make the Clementine model look pedestrian, like every curved tube framed hybrid/comfort bike you see in any corner shop. But these pics really show the high dollar Rivendell quality of the frame model and the parts hung on it, which I knew they had to be, but just was wondering why I never could see it in RBW pics. Re: [RBW] Eleven speeds on a ten-speed hub
If you're thinking of going 11-speed...then you aren't thinking... Just kidding. I have been intrigued by the new 1x11 idea that is going on now. But I like friction shifting. And I don't like the fact that anything over 32T makes the cogset look like a discus from the non-drive side. I don't like the aesthetic. But I could probably get over it easily. Switching to staches or Albas is easy. Doing drops is harder because you have to be careful to get the hoods lined up right on if you want them equal for hoods hand positioning. A second top tube provides an added canine safety feature if: You have dismounted and are using the bike to block a charging dog. The extra TT makes it that much harder for the dog to leap through your frame and latch onto your leg , especially if you have two waterbottle cages and a frame pump on the bike! [RBW] Re: Third flat on Marathons
I cannot answer for MetinUtz, but I know that BQ did roll tests of various tires. The slowest tire was 20% slower than the fastest tire tested. Marathons were not tested. So if you rode the fastest tested tire on a 600k, you could, in theory, finish 20% faster than if you were on the slowest of the tested tires. That would save you, in theory, hours. You would, in theory, finish 20% faster. Now, my average speeds don't seem to be much faster on GB or Compass tires than I was on my Marathons, that I can tell, I think. Perhaps only the ultra fit can benefit from these types of performance tires. I will say that the Compass and GB tires seem to feel like they keep their momentum longer, and especially when starting uphill than the Marathons did. But again, I don't see really any significant differences in average speeds between the GB/Marathon/Compass tires. The GB/Compass tires do seem to corner much better, and seems like I cruise 1 cog higher on the cassette with the GB/Compass tires. But again, average speeds on the cyclometer don't seem to be significantly different. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Suggestions for tail light wiring path on my Bleriot needed, please. I have a hanging Edeluxe II on my front rack and figured that if I'm gonna use a fender light it might as well be powered from the headlight. [RBW] How to clean a Brooks saddle?
Rode my Brooks, shower-capped, in the rain for many ours this weekend. [RBW] Re: Big in Hong Kong...
OK, my native Cantonese wife who is native to HK and Canton, China listened. She said some of the words are hard to translate into English. The audio speaker states things a little differently from the text. I typed while my wife talked, and instead of changing retranslating her English to sound like Native English, I just mostly typed straight out how she said it. But the gist of it is: *Audio from the video says:* "He works 6 months and then goes out to play 6 months. He has fun on 78$HK a day ($10US) because he has nothing to do and no car and no money. He's comes from Connecticut, USA. He's 35. His name is Benedict. But he owns more than you and me. He goes to play and travel - it is the real him. He hasn't lived in one place for more than 1/2 a year since he graduated. He works half a year and then goes to travel as a tour guide and fishing for the next half year. He rides bike everywhere. Only eats simple food and yogurt or goes out to take those wild food and berries. If he's at the ocean he will eat some crabs and seaweed. Every day only spends equivalent of 78$ Hong Kong money. ($10 US dollars). All his wealth can be put in a small bag and then buries under the ground so no one steals it. He never counts what he has. He has a bank account for selling bike parts online. He has 15-20 bikes. Simple life. He's on the magazine cover and a lot of people envy him. He says that people in modern society think that having lots of money means you are successful. But he doesn't agree. He says that working is against nature and is stressful and he doesn't like to work. He doesn't want to use the peak of his life to work. He doesn't want to use his time doing something meaningless. Now he is working part time as is making work, work for him(?).". *The print under the video says:* "Working people every day work for two meals. Even you don't like work you still have to do it. Some Americans like to give up the working life and spend half year working and the rest of the time traveling. Simple but fun life. 35 years old man Benedict is from Connecticut, River Valley, USA. He says he doesn't like work and it is not natural. So he decided to create his own life that belongs to himself. He said that he only likes to ride bike and camping. He said that he would like to do something meaningful but doesn't want to waste the peak of his life doing something meaningless. Recently he was on the cover of a magazine. His Instagram account "Ultra Romance" has become popular. He said he graduated at 20 years old and hasn't stayed in the same place more than half a year, since. 1/2 year working as a travel guide or fisherman, the rest of the time travels whole country. Sometimes traveling alone, sometimes with company. Last year he went adventuring and had only 14 days sleeping inside the room. The rest of the time he stays outside. He even with friend goes to New Zealand. While he travels he only spends $78$HK/day. (10$ US Dollars). He never worries about how much he has. He never counts how much he has. WETH (Erl?), Thanks. It is a fun ride and quite picturesque in Annapolis. A Riv meetup on the B&A trail and a lunch trip to Annapolis would be cool. They have a neat market place there, though I didn't get too detailed a look. Looks like a lot to choose from. It is a very nice century. Other MD centuries: The Seagull Century(October), and Six Pillars Century (May) are two other nice Maryland Centuries. Dead flat. Lots of fun with a party-ish atmosphere at the start of the Seagull. The Indian Head 100, in Southern, MD, is also nice and in the 3,000-ish foot range, so that's another easy-ish century, similar to the Lifeline, but more country roads. Lifeline is more a mix of downtown Annapolis and suburban and country riding, and the 30 miles of beautiful paved MUP, with an Emu sighting near the airport if you look carefully and it comes out to the fence line to watch you ride by. I haven't done the Civil War Century yet. I hear the climbing is brutal. But the Metric route stays in the valleys and you just look at the mountains. The Metric sounds like fun. Though the frame on the website pics is definitely not the same frame in the RAAM movie (it definitely a green Qbeam in the movie), the rear red bag set up is almost identical (red bag, bungees, to dropouts). The website pics also show two-tone bars similar to the one in the movie, and there looks like a piece of paper on the back of the rear bag. Maybe it's the Route 66 sign. So unless someone is mimicking Lons rear bag and two tone bar setup, it looks like the Quickbeam in the movie could likely be his. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] FS: Pair of Hetres
Pair of Hetres for sale. Bought from Compass Cycles. Mounted on my Bleriot and ridden for a very short time before being taken off and replaced by Compass 38mm tires for better fender clearance. Treads are great. Sidewalls look good and clean. No rain smutz. Both have very thin, almost undetectable (except for neurotic close up looking), superficial split around circumference where a molding line is. My Rivish LBS (College Park Bikes) said it is cosmetic and irrelevant. I forgot the exact explanation. I think they said something about an overlaying layer of rubber where that happens and it means nothing. Every Panaracer tire I have had developed these. Yours probably has them too if you look close enough. 100$ shipped CONUS. Pics if you like. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Re: [RBW] Re: Seagull Canceled
I'd definitely be interested, Steve. But checking my schedule, my weekends in October are booked. RUSA perm pop hopefully this Sunday, Lifeline 100 on the 18th, work and worship team at church the other weekends. You doing the Lifeline 100? Lynn, that's true! But organized rides really get me going. I do the shorter perm/pops alone, though. Done a few 100-120 k RUSA rides. I'm looking forward to the RUSA 200k Flatbread this November. I'm trying to arrange the day off work so I can make it! There seem to be centuries around but I have to keep surfing the clubs/web to see what's around on the weekends I don't work. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Re: What do Rivendell riders use for cycling in the rain in the cold?
This info I need is mainly for long events. I do pretty good in the rain on commutes and sub-30 mile rides. Easy to stay warm on summer rides. So, sounds like for longer events there is no such thing as staying dry, so warm is the thing. I'm already wool clad head to toe when I ride. So just need to try to keep a rain jacket or something to keep my trunk from getting utterly soaked at least. Normally I use a poncho but it is cumbersome with drops. I have Gore shoe covers. So that covers the feet. Also gloves. Anyone tried the J&G waterproof/breathable/heavily vented jacket? [RBW] Re: What do Rivendell riders use for cycling in the rain in the cold?
That's the issue - the cold. What to wear to keep warm and dry. Although on long events maybe one cannot keep dry. Riding in summer heat on a long event in the rain is one thing.
