[RBW] FS: Bags and Racks

Selling a stash of bags and racks. These have not been used much. 
Approximate usage in the description. Price does not include shipping. 

- Marks Rack - $120. Struts are 7” and 9” long. Approximately 500 miles of 
use. Great shape. 
- RBW51 rack and trunk bag. I’d like to sell these together. Struts are 
13.5” and 4.5” long. Approximately 200 miles of use. Both bag and rack are 
in excellent shape. $200
- Banana sack - $90. Approximately 100 miles of use. Some smudges but no 
tears. Excellent shape. 
- Sackville medium (?) bag. Approximately 400 miles of use. Little dirty, 
as I had it on a rack on my Hunqapillar. But no tears. Great shape. $170.

[RBW] FS: bags, bar, tires

Hi, all, 

Selling an Ortlieb carry-off pannier, a Bags X Bird "teardrop" -- similar 
to the current Piccolo -- a set of 700X43 Gravel Kings; and a PNW "Coast" 
handlebar, 44cm. The Ortlieb and the teardrop both well-used but still in 
pretty good shape. I no longer have the plastic insert that came with the 
BXB, but the bag is still totally functional. I had the bar mounted on a 
Crust Bombora for about a month -- some tape/clamp residue/marks but in 
good shape. The tires were mounted on my Homer for two months, but in the 
winter so prob 300 miles.

with maglock, size medium (at the time). Fits great on at least a 47.5 AHH, 
51 Appaloosa, and a 52H clem. Comes with free dirt from Mt Tam and some

[RBW] FS - Bags: Sackville TrunkSack & Makeshifter Outback Saddlebag

Both of these bags are technically used but remain in like new condition:

1. Rivendell Sackville TrunkSack - Small, olive.  I bought this bag from a 
fellow list-member with the intention to change a Wald/bag setup for the 
smaller TrunkSack, but I've decided to stick with the basket bag.  $80 
(shipping included to lower 48).

2. Makeshifter Outback Saddlebag.  It's hard to let this go, but this bag 
has simply not been used enough.  It's beautiful.  Includes Voile straps 
and carrying strap.  I think the Outbacks have been retired.  Tan canvas 
with olive webbing and pink interior.  You won't lose anything in this 
bag.  $255 (shipping included to lower 48).

Trimming down my collection of bags:

1) Swift Industries Zeitgeist Black X-pac V1 with Expedition Upgrade - $110 
shipped
--This is one of the originals that doesn't have the internal stiffeners 
and still uses leather straps and a dowel to attach to saddle loops. 
Aesthetically/functionally in great shape and very clean. This one has the 
expedition upgrade with added d-rings for lashing things on the outside and 
D-rings for attaching a shoulder strap. This is technically a second, but I 
couldn't tell you why, nothing seems "off". I'm only getting rid of it 
because I emptied the bike fund to buy a Fab's Chest and can't afford to 
have two saddlebags.

2) Swift Industries Sitka Hip Pack - $30 shipped
--This was my daily hip pack for about 3 years, but I've switched to the 
Swift Ardea pack which has slightly more capacity. This definitely shows 
signs of use, but everything is functional. One of the zipper pull tabs 
came off, but I brought it in to Swift and they added a new rubber zipper 
pull. They don't make this one anymore unfortunately.

3) Jandd Mountain HandlePack - $20 shipped
--This seems to be an older version of the one that's currently being sold. 
Pretty much in perfect shape, I just didn't ever have a use for it.

4) Surly Porteur House Bag - $80 shipped
--I picked this up locally thinking I would use it with my Clydesdale Fork, 
but a basket has ended up sufficing just fine and this has just been 
sitting. Looks brand new and has all the liner bags with no staining on

Large Sackville saddlesack in olive in very good used condition.  The only 
noticable wear is some road grime where it sat on the rack sans fenders.  $175

Road Runner Bags Jammer in rust in very good used condition.  Minor fading and 
small stains you'd have to look for but commensurate with use which was slot 
but this has worn VERY well.  $100

Small Sackville saddlesack in tan that has been ridden hard and put away wet.  
There is a thumbsize hole wear the brakes wore through the bag and small 
threadbare spot where the bag made contact with the rear tire.  I will include 
waxed canvas I got from swift industries if you want to patch it. $85

Treetop Designs saddlebag in grey waxed canvas.  This bag has also seen heavy 
use so it has stains and discoloration commensurate with use.  It is

FS: Bags


Berthoud 372 Panniers (Gray), $300


This is largest of the Berthoud panniers. It has a 49 liter capacity. 
 There is a large compartment and a smaller pocket on the outside. These 
expand with the side-lacing so they store pretty flat when empty but expand 
and can hold quite a bit--especially with the top loading.  Note that these 
panniers are designed to be used as lowrider fronts. Berthoud specifically 
states that they are for front lowrider mounting. If you try to use them as 
a rear, you may have heel clearance issues.  Despite the warning from 
Berthoud i use these on a RBW Hillborne + Nitto Big Back Rack with no heel 
clearance issues (size 11 feet). The Nitto BBR has a really long top 
platform so i’m able to push the bag pretty far back, YMMV on whether you 
can do the same.   If you’re comparing this to the current version of this 
bag, pay attention to the pictures of the retaining system (i believe these 
are the RK style), i think Berthoud has updated them recently. If you’re 
comparing to the ones at Compass--don’t, they have Berthoud make their 
version of this bag with leather straps instead of the camlocks for the 
retaining system, though the rest of the bag looks to be the same.

As far as condition, there is some light wear on the leather trim and some 
rubbing on the back of the bags.   Some of the straps are starting to curl, 
there are a couple spots where the piping is starting to wear slightly, the 
only condition issue is that the previous owner wore through part of the 
reflective material on one of the bag sides (perhaps from the 
aforementioned heel clearance issue).  My plan was to repair it with 
reflective tape but it never bothered me enough to address it. I love the 
look of these bags (they look great on my french postal inspired bike) but

switching over to Swift Industries Short Stack bags and have no need for 
these. They're in excellent shape. The only thing I did to them was cut 
both of the Irish straps a bit shorter which you can see in the pictures. I 
didn't like the extra strap dangling about.

Suntour Accushift Barcons 7s - $40 shipped
--Good shape, they work in both index and friction mode. I got these from a 
used bike shop but never ended up using them myself. Everything works on 
them as far as I can tell.

Shimano 600 8-speed Downtube Shifters - $35 shipped
--Good shape, I'm including both the flat and curved washers so that you 
can use them as either downtube or thumb shifters.

I started making basic small bags and have a couple for sale here:

Short story and Riv content...
I tried to set my new Riv Redwood up as a front rack loaded rando style bike. 
Affected handling too much for my taste. This coincided with finding some small 
pieces of cotton duck and the great bag experiment started to outfit my Redwood 
with bags that didn't rely on rack supports. Basically I wanted to split loads 
between a saddle wedge and a front bag. The experiment continues and basic bag 
making has become a fun hobby. I'll continue to make bags, some for myself to 
test, some to sell to raise money for more bag-related tools. 

Just a note as well. Custom bags probably aren't in my plans in the near future.

Input is welcome though! I'm going to design a rackless front bag shortly. Any 
thoughts on front bags that attach to handlebars/stem-or-headtube?

On the lights you can see an example of the light pattern at Peter White’s 
site (about 1/4 of the way down). http://peterwhitecycles.com/headlights.aspi 
used these with a hub dynamo and the bottle dynamo for sale.  The light 
pattern is very good, and i found it adequate for city riding, i ended up 
replacing them with something much more expensive (partly for the 
additional brightness in unlit areas, but mostly for looks).  I think they 
are adequate for city riding/commuting and a great value.  Some would say 
they are ugly, but i would call them not flashy :).  Same deal with the 
bottle dynamo, it worked fine but i replaced it with a Son, mainly for the 
aesthetics, this bottle dynamo powered my supernova just as well.

Dura-Ace non-aero levers.  These are great levers, feel really solid. 
 Unfortunately i could not find replacement dura-ace hoods so i used 
dia-compe ones, which work, but not 100% correct aesthetically.  These 
would work really well on moustache bars, the hoods underneath are cut 
because these are used.  There are also quite a few scratches along the 
edges of the levers.  These are not lookers.  $10

Dia-Compe non-aero levers.  These are similiar to the 204 with the 
quick-release in the lever blade, but the blades themselves are textured. 
 The original gum hoods finally let go, so i’ve replaced them with new 
dia-compe hoods.  These have not been used/mounted since i’ve replaced the 
hoods.  The black bit sticking out of the top are adjusters, i’ve taken one 
off in one of the pictures.   $20

Bags

I recently cleaned out some closets and i’m embarrassed at the number of 
excessive bags that i’ve accumulated (both bike and other types), so need 
to clear some space.

Berthoud GB704 Bag and Rack: $225

This is the smaller of the two Berthoud Saddlebags the GB704, it’s about; 
7L and measures

220mm W x 170mm H X 250mm D.   Berthoud numbers their bags funny so the 
GB704 is actually the smaller bag (whereas the GB604 is the bigger one).  I 
originally bought both sizes thinking i’d swap between the two bags and two 
bikes but i’ve used the larger one only and the second bike i’ve dedicated 
to a different bag.  I’ve used this smaller one a handful of times (sunny, 
no rain).  It’s in the grey berthoud material with leather piping, it’s a 
very handsome bag i get compliments on mine all the time (even more so then 
my NS tweed bags :) )

The rack has never been mounted as both bags came with a mount and i only 
used the one.  The rack is quite beefy and makes carrying heavier items a 
little more manageable as it provides a platform from below to support the 
load.  The rack comes with a shim to fit a 27.2 seat-post, if you have a 
different size you’ll need to come up with your own shim.   This combo 
normally runs about $400.

XS but it's tan canvas.  $45 shipped (Sackville is $65)

3. Nigel Smythe Seat Pouch -- Tan canvas, not tweed. $70 shipped (Tweed is $160)

4. Nigel Smythe Hobo Bag -- Tan canvas. The leather straps to fasten
to handlebars are missing. I was using the Irish straps but those have
been transferred to another use. $65 shipped

[RBW] FS: Bags, TA Crank Set with RIngs, TA Bottom Bracket

Cleaning out the garage.  Before I eBay these, I thought I'd put them
up here.   Anyone getting ready for spring and  long bike rides?   PM
for pics.

1)  Baggins Banana Seat Bag  $65

If you're here, you know about these bags.  Lots of beausage on this
one.

2)  Acorn Med Seat Bag in tan.  Great condition $75

Great condition.  Near new.  This one is actually between a medium and
large.  It holds a lot.

3)  Acorn Small Handle Bar Bag in Black.  $70

I don’t see this one offered on their website anymore.  I never did
use this one.  This could also work as a saddle bag if you have the
proper loops on your saddle.

4)  TA Cyclotouriste Crank set with 46/30 chainrings & TA pedal
washers. 175 mm crank arm length.  $175.
 Fits standard threaded pedals.  Beautiful, classic design.  VO is
kinda making new versions of these.
These are no longer made and difficult to find.   This was purchased
about a year ago from old, new stock.  They have been used for about
100 miles and show some chain shift scratches on the inside of the
larger chain ring.  Otherwise, they still shine.  No wear on the teeth
can be seen.  I swapped this out for a triple, so I no longer need
this set.

5)  TA Axix steel BB, Italian thread, 116 mm width.  Only 100 miles
use.  It was used for the above mentioned crank set. $50

Shipping to lower 48 US states is included.  Open to offers, if I'm
asking too much for some of this.

Sackville SaddleSack Large, black - $100
Purchased January, 2009, from RBW. In good used shape, with one actual flaw: 
shortly after I bought it, I abused it by carrying it with a shoulder strap 
clipped to the D-rings on the front of the bag; I pulled out one rivet. I 
replaced that rivet with a Chicago screw and never had a problem with the new 
arrangement. Fob and shoulder strap and blue straps in pictures included.

Arkel Big Bar Bag, black - $90
Very good condition. Includes rain cover, as well as handlebar clamp hardware
