Hi, I'm Lynn, and I'm de-lurking to raise my hand and say that if a back-up 
charity is needed, I've put out a feeler to a suitable blind and visually 
impaired stoker group here in Austin, Texas. If they are interested (and I 
can't imagine they wouldn't be!) I can make the introduction. The expertise 
and ability to round up necessary components is definitely here; I work for 
BikeTexas and I have more than enough connections to take on the project.

I like your idea and the independence it affordshowever I don't want to 
burden Riv with something they didn't ask for.

Let's see what Denise finds out

Denise the timing would be August or September for the frame to arrive and 
maybe another month for assembly/delivery.  

Denise why don't you see if there's interest from David and we'll go from 
there...

If everyone is OK with putting their trust in me, it looks like I can make 
the "new" fundraiser as a "business/entrepreneurial" project and therefore 
have better control of the funds.

Wow, never woulda expected this!  My off the cuff vote would be to have Denise 
reach out to Dave White from Blind Stokers.  That seems in keeping with the 
original intent and also targets a benefactor that might be more 
interested/committed. 

Riv was also to be a benefactor here; but, they luckily reached their min unit 
goal for moving forward with their HHH order, so not really a big factor other 
than whatever profit they’d get from this 1 frame. They had talked about 
supplying some components, so, the frame profit goes away in that case...

But, maybe the appropriate thing would be to first have gofundme send an email 
to all doners and give them a  refund. Then ask Riv if there’s a way to set up 
a special purchase code on their web site where donors could contribute towards 
a frame to go to a charity who would use it. Blind Stokers or whoever; let that 
be worked out as to who later so we don’t get in this situation again?

Alex,

Not sure what's possible, but here's a couple ideas:

Thinking a president is not always involved in inventory/asset management
for their charity...

If she were willing, Christine could accept ownership of the new HHH on
behalf of BTCC, but just assign it for use by a captain to be shipped
directly to them.  That would reduce her need for involvement while
maintaining control for possible future use if/when her circumstances
change.

Could she recommend another chapter/branch/club/captain that is in need of
the HHH?  There may be individuals who would want to be captains, but do
not have the tandem with which to do it.  A tricky bit there is BTCC has
the 501 (c) (3) status and another may not.

the donation sighting a heavy commitment at school.  I don't want to 
over-analyze and dwell on the past too much so I think we should carry on.

If you were skeptical from the beginning, please refrain from the 
I-told-you-so's, if even to prevent my fragile ego from going to pieces ;-)

Question is, where shall we go from here?  Should we have Denise reach out 
to Dave White from Blind Stokers SD? 

I've been in contact with GoFundMe and the only course forward is to refund 
the donationshowever they would happily coordinate an email to all the 
refunded participants saying that the NEW fundraiser is now hereetc.

sorry in advance if this is an emotional drain on any of you (it is for me 
a little bit).  I never in a million years would think someone would turn 
down delivery of a fully functional tandem perfect for their charge (wide

Sorry I've been bogged down with family/holiday goings-on.  I sent her an 
email tonight to see how things were progressing.  I know that PayPal 
Giving has several verification steps that can take a bit to complete and

in finals etc etc.

We talked on the phone for about 40 mins, she's great.  Long story short, 
she's navigating the withdrawal requirements/protocol for Paypal/Go Fund Me 
and will be in contact with Will at HQ to pay for the frame deposit.  She's 
all in, and excited to swap out one of their donated tandems for a more 
beginner friendly/wide size-range design.  She'll make room by donating one 
of her more "race-y" tandems to Blind Stokers in San Diego.  

Patience is a virtue indeed ;-)

blind stokers all over.  They may be an option if the BTCC falls through.

some local clubs who would be interested in a HHH specifically dedicated to 
riding with blind stokers.  This would also save shipping costs and allow

Agreed, and I also see the following advantages for a club like the BTCC:

-People who want to experiment with tandem riding without jumping in the deep 
end

-People who can't otherwise store/maintain their own tandem

-Having a wide-size-range tandem on hand for a myriad of riders

-Having a "comfortable" upright versatile tandem on hand (read beginner 
friendly)

There's probably more butthose are just a few that came to mind.  If they 
aren't interested, that's OK we'll figure it out. 

I'm ok with letting it ride a few more days to see if Christine is on vacation 
or something like thatpatience is a virtue :-)

IF.this doesn't pan out and Riv is one frame away from making their order 
our shop will happily tack one on to the order.  We have one from the first 
round and absolutely love it.  I had always envisioned having one for the shop 
as a rental etc and the original plan was to let ours out on loan.  I've since 
built it up in a pretty fancy spec and grown attachednot sure I'd loan it 
out but to close friends.  Since there has been interest from several people 
this season, I think having a more basic build available for rental would be a 
cool thing. 

It will all work out, I promise.

This has been my impression.  I have toyed with idea of joining the San Diego 
Blind Stokers Club for several years as my wife is not really too keen on 
riding our tandem, which I would like to ride much more.  The main reason I 
haven’t joined is fear of backlash from my wife but the idea is still there.  
Maybe one day.  At any rate, I tried to donate a rooftop tandem carrier (no 
inexpensive item) to them a couple years ago and there was no interest.  I 
think they need sighted captains more than gear.  A captain without their own 
tandem might be problematic in that possibly they don’t have the experience?

The logistics of this might be a challenge. As has been pointed out, this 
organization is basically a broker, putting together Captains with stokers. I 
don't think they actually have bicycles that belong to the club itself at a 
physical location. I think the people who sign up have their own tandems. I 
could be wrong.

Maybe it could be a rally fundraising tandem. It would start out on the west 
coast at Rivendell headquarters. It would make its way across the country, with 
sited captains and visually impaired stokers, changing riders like in a relay 
race. That could be a fundraiser in itself for the organization.

Just want to ensure the $ will go to Riv for a HHH deposit, given that was

1. This weekend my wife and I are taking the inaugural spin on our 
newly-built HHH. Whatever's left in the build budget, plus a few extra 
bucks will go into this fundraiser. Beyond the raw awesomeness of the 
BTCC's mission, I am so excited to find a way to assuage the guilt of 
removing my name from the HHH 2.5 list after snagging the second small sage 
set-aside in Will's email a few weeks back. Whew. What a bonus.

2. For sizing, remember the sizes were originally M-L-XL, but that got 
confusing and shifted down a notch to the standard S-M-L (per Grant). We're 
riding a small and have PBHs 85 and 79 respectively.

3. Reading up on BTCC, it sounds like they are a forum for connecting 
willing captains and interested stokers. Do they own bikes directly? Maybe 
there's a way to get into the hands of a willing, but non-yet registered 
captain to make a white pin someplace where a blue pin is waiting for a 
match . Good luck with the logistics,

of his car -- and he lives in the Bay Area and drives down to LA at least

to increase the chances that there will even BE another run of Hubbuh’s.

Also, I’m guessing, to accommodate more riders, they would probably prefer

The response has been overwhelming!  You all are a wonderful bunch.  Having 
made the mistake of starting the Go Fund Me, I take responsibility in 
seeing this to the end.  I just might need to fly out to Riv HQ and 
personally deliver/ride this bike to Topanga (Laughing maniacally)
