Nice looking bike. With the bag installed, the cloth tape choices for
lift-a-tube and handlebar makes a lot more sense!

Re: [RBW] Re: thunder burt snakeskin vs raceguard

I believe EVO just refers to the Evolution Line which is a group of
Schwalbe's higher-end tires. I believe the Thunder Burt is only offered as
Evolution, where other tires are offered as Evolution or Performance line,
with different versions within each category.

This belt was developed specially with racing in mind. A synthesis of
special india rubber and several layers of nylon fabric offers very
effective protection against penetration punctures. There is only a
 minimal
increase in weight and rolling resistance of these tires.

It appears the raceguard version relies on a fabric belt with the
lightskin sidewalls for puncture resistance whereas the snakeskin is "A
light and flexible carcass makes the tire highly resistant to scrubbing" .

So that infers a completely different carcass .

So Drew I'd assume a snakeskin version would be a good choice for you.

[RBW] Re: New Clem L's available now?

2017-07-26 Thread David Banzer
I was waiting for the 64cm Clem Ls, which I think are in the next batch,
but am really tempted by the grey 59cm.
I have a 59cm Clem H frame in the same grey - my riding needs have changed
a bit and a step-through frame would be ideal for kid-hauling.
The 59cm fits me just fine, probably no need to go for a size larger for me.
Anyone want to buy a grey 59cm Clem H frame so I can go for the Clem L?

[RBW] Re: Roast your own coffee?

2017-07-31 Thread David Banzer
I've been roasting coffee for a few years now. Practical? Absolutely.
Benefits? That's up to you to decide. You get to try specific coffees and
roast them how you like, or differently and compare.
It can be a routine part of daily life, or it can be a full-blown hobby
taking up lots of your time, in a good way.
You can roast delicious coffee with low-tech and high-tech devices.
I've tried a few, have yet to buy an actual coffee roaster because I've
been content with my low-tech results. I have used hot air poppers,
stovetop, oven, grill, and a even a Trangia stove.
My preferred method is actually an old wok that's continuously stirred with
a wooden spoon. It takes practice - and each type of coffee roasts
differently.
I get green beans from Burman (http://www.burmancoffee.com/) local-ish
enough to me that they have cheap flat rate shipping.
Another benefit I suppose is that my wife can't drink regular coffee and
drinks decaf - good luck finding freshly roasted decaf options, so for us
roasting is the only option.
And to bring it to bikes - I have roasted up a small batch of coffee on a
bike ride - a Trangia alcohol stove fits just enough fuel to roast a small
batch of coffee.

Re: [RBW] WTB / WTT Tektro R559 with hex nut

2017-08-22 Thread David Banzer
Hi Jack,
The bolt is not a standard bolt that you can buy in a hardware store.
However, Tektro uses the same mounting bolts on different brake models.
I've successfully swapped bolts out of the 800a model, which is
inexpensive: https://www.modernbike.com/tektro-800a-sidepull-brake-set
You could do that then sell the set of 800a's as recessed mounts. You only
need to swap the rear recessed with the bolt-on front.

[RBW] WTB: Nitto Rack Nuts - Pair.

2017-09-01 Thread David Banzer
Need a pair of Nitto rack nuts.
Like this:
https://www.rivbike.com/collections/racks/products/nitto-rack-hardware-rack-nut-bolt-each-20184
Riv is out of stock at the moment.
I have a rear rack coming that works with a rear child seat. I'm confident
that the included mounting hardware that comes with it will not work with
my Clem.
I'm gonna use Nitto struts, probably overkill but planning on doing 4 total
struts - 2 to the typical upper rack eyelets, and 2 to the mid seat stay
eyelets.
Have the struts and a couple rack nuts, just need 2 more of the nuts.
Thanks,
David

[RBW] FS: Nitto B132 Drop Bar Cockpit - Nitto Albastache Bars w/ levers/tape

2017-09-06 Thread David Banzer
Re-imagining a couple bikes and have a few things for sale...
Prices do not include shipping.
Respond off list if you're interested or have questions.
Will take photos shortly.

1. Nitto B132 Drop Bar Cockpit - 44cm bar, Nitto Tallux 10cm stem, dark
blue Newbaum's tape (clear shellacked), Shimano Tiagra aero brake levers,
these were used for a bit, I put a fresh coat of shellac on the tape
recently, bar sleeve/crest area is scratched on one side when I tried to
fit the bar into an mtb stem, just a cosmetic issue, includes silver
braided brake housing and brake cables, these fit on a large (64cm) bike
with cantilever brakes so housing stops at headset/seat cluster cable stops
- full housing for rear - $100

2. Nitto Albastache Bar - tried these on my Black Mountain monstercross,
but that frame really is made for drop bars - includes albastache bar in
nice used condition - wrapped with gray Newbaums tape and clear shellacked
- Shimano Tiagra aero brake levers - includes gray brake housing and brake
cables - rear housing is split (will include the piece for the seat cluster
area) - was on a large (64cm) frame with cantilever brakes, so housing
stops at headset/seat cluster cable stops - note this was on a stem (not
included) with removable faceplate, so would need same open faceplate stem
to mount and not require re-wrapping one side of bars - $100

[RBW] WTB: Nitto Technomic Standard or Tallux Stem. 25.4mm clamp - 12cm or 13cm

2017-09-07 Thread David Banzer
Looking for a Nitto stem.
Specifically the 225mm quill height versions.
Either the Technomic Standard or Tallux (what Riv sells) will work.
Need 25.4mm clamp.
Either 12cm or 13cm reach.

I can pay outright, or have a few stems to trade, all are 225 tall:
Nitto Technomic Standard - 10cm, 26.0mm (have 2)
Nitto Technomic Standard - 11cm, 25.4mm
Also can trade for more than your share in Willow chainrings

Thanks,
David

[RBW] Clem Rear Rack Attachments - Weight limits?

2017-09-26 Thread David Banzer
I've recently added a Yepp rear child seat to the back of my Clem - ordered
a super sturdy rear rack that allows the seat to attach directly into the
rails of the rack.
For those interested it's a Steco Power Safety carrier, and appears to only
be available from European distributors.
Anyway, the included hardware worked, but I need to mount the rack on the
M6 eyelets in front of the dropouts.
I'd like to eventually move the rack back to the rear dropouts, but will
need to get some custom struts made - the Nitto ones won't work, which was
my original plan.

So there's a couple questions in there...
Do you think the eyelets in front of the dropouts are safe for larger
weight - son's around 30 lbs right now?
Would the dropout eyelets be a better option once he get's bigger?
I need some custom struts made - simple steel tubing with holes for M5
bolts at both ends - any recommendations for someone to do this small
project?

Thanks,
David
