If the tag is changed according the manufacturers instructions,
then yes you can change the FCC type acceptance number. We used
to do it all the time and according to the printed instructions
 from the manufacturer.

If you don't believe, sorry but I believe I still have some of the
paperwork to back up my statements.

You are welcome to visit and read for yourself.

Question. Are business band radio's not FCC type accepted in the GRMS band?
I was pondering setting up a repeater on GRMS. I had assumed that the
Business Band FCC type radios would be accepted on GRMS? Is that not true?
Or just that the radio's were configured for Business band but were not
stock for GRMS.

Actually there aren't any specs that say that. What you have to make sure
is that the tolerance specs from the transceivers used meet or exceed the
specifications required under repeater service. Real repeaters usually have
much tighter freq. drift error specs..

While you are on the subject.
Make sure it is FCC type accepted for part 95 this also covers GMRS. Part 90
is business. We has some very nice people at one of our tower sites using a
nice repeater that was not type accepted for part 95 that was on GMRS. We
require that a copy of the FCC license be on every box. The FCC was at the
site on a totally unrelated problem and noted the GMRS ticket on the box. A
quick call back to his office to confirm. Well the bottom line is the system
is off the air and we lost the guys cutting the grass in trade for some
tower space.
Good luck on your GMRS repeater.
