SD Anyone know of any other 85 t-tops out there still?
Hi all, a while ago, I posted a few questions about my 85 t-top, and how rare it is/was, (391 out of 8023 turbo-zs made for 85), etcetc..etc. Thanks to Mike Pascali and his standard catalog of Chrysler 1924-1990 So you all tell me, are the numbered cars that rare? (no mine was not signed by Carroll Shelby OR Lee Iacocca) but my question now is: Anyone else out here have an 85-t-top turbo-z? (not a laser XT, as it was considered a 85-1/2), Mine is still around and with 80,000 miles on the original motor/trans, and it has a long way to go! :-) Thanks, Mike ---REMOVE-FOOTER-WHEN-REPLYING Questions? Only on the ES ans Shelby models. Base Daytonas and C/S daytonas still had the same nose as all the 87-88 cars. That nose was used on the base cars untill 92 when the body got restyled. SD Re: Dead relays?
Well, figured out half the trouble. The fuel pump wasnt coming on because the engine hadnt been cranked, therefore no distributor crank reference signal from the HEP. DU!!! I figured it out when I checked for power to the coil. There wasnt any, so I plugged in a spare distributor that had a HEP in it. Plugged it in, turned it, the LM got a reference signal and the pump came to life. Now with the one onthe engin plugged in, when I turn the car to run it powers the pump for its initial charge like it is supposed to. I think I figured out the starter problem as well. There is a short in the brown wire between the relay and the solenoid. I think I know why... There is coolant leaking from the back of the head!!! Seems to be getting the starter wires wet, causing the short. Do any of the intake/exahust bolt holes break into a water jacket in the head? That would explain the coolant leak... In an 86 T-I G body, what would keep the fuel pump from coming on when you turn the key on? Its been sitting for years, and Im getting it going again, but when you turn the key, nothing happens. The starter dont turn over either. I can hear a relay click, but thats all. I just put the starter in, and its known good. What should I look for? RE: SD power loss light
First, look up the codes here: http://minimopar.net Repair whatever is broken sensor wise. Second, pull the valve cover and remove two bolts holding the baffle in place inside the valve cover. Remove all of the old oil and sealant and reseal the baffle to the valve cover. Make sure to put sealant on all of the ribs where they contact the inside of the valve cover. You want the air to move through this, but to do so slowly enough to allow the oil to drop out. Next, return your PCV system back to stock. If you want to run your cold intake system, then dump the end of the hose that went into the air box to a plastic catch tank that is vented at the top. Finally, make sure the PCV hose is not leaking at the valve cover. If you know how to solder copper pipe, then you can build a replacement that will last as long as your car and will only have a few pieces of short, straight rubber to replace. Instead of a molded rubber hose. For early T1 cars (they have the 90 degree fitting on the back of the valve cover) you'll need a T and three pieces of hose about 2-3 long along with 6 hose clamps. Place the T piece with the straight section at the bottom. Use the rubber hose to connect the T to the outlet/inlet port on the valve cover. The other end of the T goes to the catch tank/airbox. The upright portion should be big enough to allow the PCV valve to drop in place and be secured with a the final piece of hose. For late T1 and T2 cars (straight fitting on the back of the valve cover) you'll need a T, a 45 degree bend, 3 inches of straight pipe and about 10-12 of rubber hose and 6 hose clamps. The perpendicular portion of the T is connected to the valve cover. Twist the T to a 45 degree angle. Cut and solder the straight pipe to the lower portion of the T to have enough room to connect the hose that runs to the airbox/catch tank. The upper half needs to have the 45 installed in it to create a port for the PCV valve that is perpendicular to the top of valve cover. Use a short section of hose to hold the PCV in place. In both instances you need to make sure the seals and joints are tight and leak free using vacuum or pressure. You also need to ensure that the PCV valve is working (not just rattling, but able to hold pressure/vacuum) Finally you need to ensure that any one-way valves or vacuum lines in the system are functioning properly for the entire system to work properly. If you still get blowby after the above items have been checked and/or fixed, then you might simply have an issue related to the sealing of the rings or something else has failed in the reciprocating assembly that is causing it to act as an oil pump (blown turbo seals will also do this BTW) Good luck, Stefan Mullikin Portland, OR Co-Founder PNW-SDAC http://www.pnw-sdac.org 1980 Fiat X-1/9 1984 Dodge Rampage 2.2 1987 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z 1987 Shelby CSX #106 1988 Shelby CSX-T #3 -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of jim bauer Sent: Wednesday, June 01, 2005 11:50 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: SD power loss light the 87 t2 2.2 still runing sickly bad, ran on board codes with the ignition switch and got a 1,33,35,2,55 this dont look right. car running real rich and dies when I let off gas pedal. runs like i got a HUGE cam in it. black smoke out the pipe. .I have the 3way rubber conector that comes off of the valve cover pluged on one end. the PCV side is not pluged up. I had an 1988 LeBaron Turbo Coupe. It had the odd Turbo Coupe package, $4800 for the package, and $12,300 for the car. T1, auto, Premium interior, but not digital dash and no cornering lights. Pinstripe deleted, no turbo EFI emblems, Turbo on the side mouldings, like the GTCs. Upholstered trunk It had an Airbag. It should have had the leather wrapped stering wheel, but since it was an airbag car, they didn't have those available yet. Brings up a trivia question, what non-intercooled turbo cars did NOT have the TURBO Electronic Fuel Injection chrome fender emblems? I have had 2, Shelby Charger, and the 1988 Turbo Coupe LeBaron. RE SD Does this look right?
You're a little off in your VIN info. The model year of any vehicle manufactured from 1980 on is the 10th digit of the 17 digit VIN, counting from the start of the VIN Some examples are: A=1980,B=81,C=82,D=83,E=84,F=85, G=86, H=87, J=88, K=89, L=90,M= 91. Note there is no i, o ,q or y in this system. This was done to prevent confusion between similar looking letters and also so model year 2001 could begin to reuse the numeric system again. eg. 1 = 2001 Thanks Randy Hicks 86 GLH S60 86 GLHS 373 89 Turbo Minivan 83 Turbo Rampage 79 CBX slightly modified Edmonton,Alberta,Canada [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: . the third way to tell is by looking at the VIN specifically the 11th digit as counted from the left to right.
