CS>X-Ray (mammograms)

2004-08-27 Thread DByron
Since its Friday, maybe some humor is in order?
DByron

***

Many women are afraid of their first mammogram, and even if they
have had them before, there is fear. But there is no need to worry.

By taking a few minutes each day for a week preceding the exam
and doing the following practice exercises, you will be totally prepared
for the test and, best of all, you can do these simple practice
exercises right in your home.

EXERCISE 1: Open your refrigerator door, and insert one breast
between the door and the main box. Have one of your strongest friends
slam the door shut as hard as possible and lean on the door for good
measure. Hold that position for five seconds.
Repeat in case the first time wasn't effective.

EXERCISE 2: Visit your garage at 3 a.m. when the temperature of
the cement floor is just perfect. Take off all your clothes and lie
comfortably on the floor sideways with one breast wedged under the
rear tire of the car. Ask a friend to slowly back the car up until your
breast is sufficiently flattened and chilled. Switch sides, and repeat
for the other breast.

EXERCISE 3: Freeze two metal bookends overnight. Strip to the
waist. Invite a stranger into the room. Have the stranger press
the bookends against either side of one of your breasts and smash the
bookends together as hard as he/she can. Set an appointment with
the stranger to meet next year to do it again. You are now properly
prepared!

+++

The Boob Poem

For years and years they told me,
Be careful of your breasts.
Don't ever squeeze or bruise them.
And give them monthly tests.

So I heeded all their warnings,
And protected them by law.
Guarded them very carefully,
And I always wore my bra.

After 30 years of astute care,
My gyno, Dr. Pruitt,
Said I should get a Mammogram.
"O.K," I said, "let's do it."

"Stand up here real close" she said,
(She got my boob in line),
"And tell me when it hurts," she said,
"Ah yes! Right there, that's fine."

She stepped upon a pedal,
I could not believe my eyes!
A plastic plate came slamming down,
My hooter's in a vise!

My skin was stretched and mangled,
>From underneath my chin.
My poor boob was being squashed,
To Swedish Pancake thin.

Excruciating pain I felt,
Within it's vise-like grip.
A prisoner in this vicious thing,
My poor defenseless tit!

"Take a deep breath" she said to me,
Who does she think she's kidding?!?
My chest is mashed in her machine,
And woozy I am getting.

"There, that's good," I heard her say,
(The room was slowly swaying.)
"Now, let's have a go at the other one."
Have mercy, I was praying.

It squeezed me from both up and down,
It squeezed me from both sides.
I'll bet SHE'S never had this done,
To HER tender little hide.

Next time that they make me do this,
I will request a blindfold.
I have no wish to see again,
My knockers getting steamrolled.

If I had no problem when I came in,
I surely have one now.
If there had been a cyst in there,
It would have gone "ker-pow!"

This machine was created by a man,
Of this, I have no doubt.
I'd like to stick his balls in there,
And see how THEY come out.

Re: CS>CS/amoebas and histamine reactions

2004-08-17 Thread DByron
You know, I have to admit I didn't look. Too much of a wuss I guess--it
was bad enough just thinking I had uninvited companions. But my
understanding is that the enzymes should have broken down anything
beyond recognition.

I'd like to complete a story others here might find helpful.

A few months ago I experienced a very severe histamine reaction, which
is what spurred me into this course of treatment. Some on this list may
recall that I originally assumed it was poison ivy and sought help here,
only to waste 2 days due to my own misdiagnosis while the hives
continued to spread uncontrollably. By day 3 the hives were onto my
face and into nose, mouth, ears, eyes. I had never experienced anything
like this in my 52 years--am not an allergic type, so this hit me out of
the blue. Interestingly, once the hives had progressed to that point,
the itching almost completely stopped. It was like some damned science
fiction special effect.

Having no idea what else to do at that point, I went to an MD and got a
single steroid shot--which horrified me since steroids are known to shut
down the immune system. Three hours after the shot there was a violent
reaction--a sudden intense full body hot flash along with an eruption of
vivid red blotches all over. It was as if everything that had been
suppressed by taking generic benedryl for 3 days suddenly expressed
itself with a vengeance. Called the MD's office and was told to take a
prescription antihistamine and call tomorrow if not better. Not
better? I thought I might not make it. And not a word of warning from
the MD about a possible reaction like that nor any advice as to what I
might need to do in case of a future histamine reaction. Just gimme the
$125--thank you very much.

The result of all this was a decision that the only thing to do to
prevent a future reaction was to start a cleansing regimen. I was
fortunate enough to find the fellow I'm working with who thinks, as
chiropractors do, that if the spine is in good shape your system will be
able to handle most anything. My intention however is to proceed with a
liver cleanse of some kind when this parasite treatment is complete.

My best guess is that the trigger for the histamine reaction was a
pesticide, perhaps malathion, that had been covertly applied to a ditch
I had mowed the day the reaction began. Other than that, I have no idea
what caused it, which is scary.

If anyone has any additional advice on prevention, I'd love to hear it.

Re: CS>CS/amoebas

2004-08-16 Thread DByron
Garnet,

The olive leaf tincture I'm taking (olea europaea) is by Energique
Herbal, the dose being 30 drops.
The Grapefruit seed extract is in capsule form by Imhotep (called
Seed-a-Sept)--the dose being 3 caps (125 mg. each cap).

These 2 are the parasite killers and should initially be taken at rate
that allows the body to adjust to a maximum dose over a 3 day period
(day one: one dose 3X/day; day 2: two doses 3X/day; day 3: three doses
3X/day--then continue at this level for 10 days; take a 7 day break,
followed by another 10 days, same protocol).

Apparently the enzyme formula capsules (Inflammase by Progressive Labs)
is an important part of helping to digest and eliminate the bad guys.
The formula includes bromelain, catalase, superoxide dismutase,
pancreatin, amylase, lipase, trypsin, and alpha chymotrypsin--same
protocol as above.

And then another vitamin/mineral formula in tablet form called
Disc-Guard by Dee Cee Labs contains as well 250 mg. of MSM per tab.--2
tabs 3X/day.

One final product that I think was just something I needed personally
and not necessarily part of the cleanse is called Chemo-companion by
Doctor's Natural Therapy and is antioxidant/vitamin formula. Immune
system support, although I'm not a cancer patient.

I must also say that I didn't feel particularly well during the first
cycle of pill-taking but have felt progressively better and better over
the break period--the most interesting improvement being what I can only
describe as a notably improved sense of clarity. The chiropractic
adjustments have also worked very well on some old neck and mid-back
pain and are probably just as important as the meds, if not more so.
Actually I've been quite surprised at the immediate relief from the
adjustments.

CS>CS/amoebas

2004-08-15 Thread DByron
I'm currently doing a parasite cleanse for what my
naturopath/chiropractor diagnosed as the microscopic kind. If amoeba
falls into this category, and its true as I've heard on this list that
CS doesn't get far enough into the gut to do any damage to beneficial
flora (and therefore maybe not not to amoeba in all cases), then you may
need to take other botanicals. My protocol includes olive leaf extract,
grapefruit seed extract, enzymes and a couple of other combo products
one of which contains MSM--taken for 10 days, followed by a 7 day break,
and then 10 more days to take care of the egg/cyst reproduction cycle.

I'm just about to start the second phase of the remedies and must say I
do feel better. If anyone would like more detailed information on the
specifics of this protocol, I'd be glad to post a more comprehensive
list of the ingredients.

If you like almonds, try raw almond milk as a substitute for dairy. So
simple--just blend up some raw almonds with good water and strain out

through the blender 3 times, using lesser amounts of fresh water each
time, before getting all the good out of it. Bottle and
refrigerate--absolutely wonderful in coffee, sauces, etc.

CS>Antibiotics linked to rising rates of allergies

2004-05-29 Thread DByron
Antibiotics linked to huge rise in allergies
http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns5047

NewScientist.com news service

The increasing use of antibiotics to treat disease may be responsible
for
the rising rates of asthma and allergies. By upsetting the body's normal
balance of gut microbes, antibiotics may prevent our immune system from
distinguishing between harmless chemicals and real attacks.

"The microbial gut flora is an arm of the immune system," says Gary
Huffnagle at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbour. His research
group
has provided the first experimental evidence in mice that upsetting the
gut
flora can provoke an allergic response.

Asthma has increased by around 160 per cent globally in the last 20
years.
Currently about a quarter of schoolchildren in the US and a third of
those
in the UK have the condition, but pinning down the causes of the rise
has
proved difficult. Some researchers have blamed modern dust-free homes,
while
others have pointed to diet.

Antibiotics have been implicated by some epidemiological studies. For
example, the rise in allergies and asthma has tracked widespread
antibiotic
use. Furthermore, research in Berlin, Germany, has found that both
antibiotic treatment and asthma were low in the east compared to the
west
when the wall came down.

As antibiotic use has increased in the east though, so has asthma. This
study is particularly valuable because the politically divided
populations
were genetically very similar and enjoyed much the same menu.

Now Huffnagle has presented experimental evidence to back up the case.
His
team gave mice a course of antibiotics before feeding some of them with
a
yeast which is commonly found on human skin.

With the natural gut bacteria suppressed by the drugs, the yeast became
established in the mouse, with no side effects. Over the course of the
following two weeks, the researchers treated all the mice with spores
from a
common fungus. Again, this does not cause disease, but fungal spores can
trigger allergies in people.

The mice whose gut flora had been manipulated, experienced a much higher
immune response to the spores, suggesting that changes to the collection
of
microbes in people's guts following antibiotic treatment might also make
us
more susceptible to allergies. "Suddenly, your ability to ignore a mould
spore has gone," Huffnagle told New Scientist.

The team has repeated the experiments with a second strain of mice to
show
that the effect is not dependent on a particular set of mouse genes.
They
have also used a different molecule to produce the allergic response -
an
egg protein from chickens called ovalbumin that is commonly used in
allergy
research.

In this case, when the team looked at the animals' lung linings under a
microscope the effect of the over-active immune response was striking.
"Their lungs are shredded, absolutely shredded. I'm sure they can't
breath,"
says Huffnagle.

He speculates that our gut bacteria are somehow involved in training the
immune system to ignore harmless molecules that wind up in our stomach.
Precisely how they do this is a mystery though.

"He's on to a very special track," says Juneann Murphy an expert in
stomach
bacteria at the University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City. "No one else
has
been able to make the connections before."

She says the findings reinforce the message that antibiotics should be
used
only when absolutely necessary. She also suggests that patients who have
just finished antibiotic treatment should also receive "probiotic"
tablets
containing "good" gut bacteria.

Eating foods such as raw fruit and vegetables also helps to restore the
natural balance in our guts. "Once you are done with the antibiotics you
are
not finished," adds Huffnagle. "You need to recover from the treatment
itself."

The research was presented at the American Society for Microbiology
general
meeting in New Orleans on Wednesday.

CS>spider bite treatment success

2004-05-16 Thread DByron
The spider bite located on my neck has gradually faded away. I don't
know what kind of spider it was but will list the remedies I used, FYI:

Day 1: a quarter-sized inflammation developed with slight itchiness;
coincidentally, our local newspaper ran a full-page article that day on
a child who nearly died from a recluse bite (was on dialysis in
intensive care for weeks due to kidney failure). Ran in and swabbed my
bite with a mixture of 50/50 CS/DMSO plus a little gentian violet.

Day 2: husband noticed the inflammation was a bit larger, otherwise no
change; swabbed again with above mentioned mixture which caused itching
to worsen. Remembered DMSO might be contraindicated for venom as it
might carry the venom further into the tissue (people report differing
experiences on this point). Worried I might have really goofed up, esp.
after viewing Wayne's pictures, I applied a raw onion poultice for
several hours.

Day 3: Bite no better, but certainly no worse. Applied clay/CS poultice
(that was changed once) during entire day.

Day 4: Inflammation about the same, but no larger than on Day 2. No
pain, no color changes, faint occasional itching. Decided to stop
treatments and see what happened.

Since then (this is Day 6) inflammation has faded gradually, is still
visible but obviously on its way out.

My sincere thanks to everyone who offered suggestions. It helped, more
than I can say, to know that I probably had time to try the less
invasive treatments first while assured that other methods were
available if needed. If the situation had gradually worsened, I
probably would have consulted Christine next for the essential oils,
with electrical treatment as the last resort.

cells I have left, I am distinctly not crazy about the idea of zapping
myself with 25,000 volts. Has anyone seen any information about the
MINIMUM voltage necessary to destroy venom?

CS>spider bite

2004-05-12 Thread DByron
After reading the archives on Wayne Fuggit's treatment of a presumed
recluse spider bite, I have a few questions:

Wayne initially used a heating pad. My understanding up til now has
been that you'd want to apply ice to a fresh bite in order to inhibit
the spread of the poison. Wouldn't applying heat have the effect of
spreading the venom?

Several people said that the necrosing damage done by a recluse bite is
caused by the neurotoxic venom. Why then are antibiotics the
conventional treatment? Although I certainly would want to use an
alternative, they do seem to effectively stop the necrosing, for the
people who go that route.

DMSO is helpful in general because it carries CS used with it deeply
into the tissue and also reduces swelling. However, it apparently has
the effect of releasing histamines when applied to bee stings and is
thus contraindicated there. Wouldn't DMSO possibly carry spider bite
venom more deeply into surrounding tissues? Might it not be
appropriately used later during the bacterial phase of the problem?

The experiences of 2 people in my community with bad spider bites
indicated that MDs tend to take a wait-and-see approach before using
antibiotics. They sometimes draw a circle with a pen around the wound
and advise waiting to see if there is a spread or other worsening. In
both of these 2 cases the bites healed without treatment, but neither
person knew with certainly what kind of spider had bitten them. So it
could be that some people are not as allergic to recluse venom as
others, as with bee stings. It could also be that most of the
self-healing bites aren't those of truly venomous spiders.
The dilemma is, of course, that if its a truly bad bite, the longer you
wait the harder treatment will be. On the other hand, if you try every
alternative willy-nilly, you'll never know what it was that worked and
you risk developing some false ideas about what did the curing.

I suppose its better overall to try several things, be less clear about
what exactly worked, but be rid of the problem without a huge medical
bill. Wayne was incredibly courageous, imo, and we now can all benefit
from that.

Thanks to everyone who has responded,
Deborah

CS>spider bite

2004-05-11 Thread DByron
I'd appreciate some advice about spider bite treatment, which may be
that of a brown recluse. Before remembering that DMSO releases
histamines and thus probably shouldn't be used on insect bites, I dabbed
it with a mixture of 50/50 CS:DMSO plus a little gentian violet. After
24 hours it looked about the same (quarter sized red area surrounding
the darker colored little bite lesion. Actually the red area might now
be a bit larger, not much, so decided I had nothing to lose by dabbing
it again with the same mixture. Now it really itches.

As a person who would use antibiotics only as a last resort and
certainly doesn't want the super drug given for something like this, I
need to know what regimen to follow in case this is a recluse bite.
Drink lots of CS? I have a small silverpuppy and make my own.

Thanks,
DByron

CS>water quality

2004-04-01 Thread DByron
Hoping this isn't too off-topic--a question about household water
filters (after checking the archives).

I'd like to find a source of independent testing information on the
performance of household water filters. So far, all I've gotten comes
through the sellers of filters which is not really the best situation.
Testing for chlorine of course can be done with kits available from
swimming pool suppliers--my concern is with heavy metals, pesticides
etc. I was sold a rather expensive copper/zinc cartridge a couple of
years ago and now am questioning whether it actually adds metals.

Fyi, one seller just told me he doesn't even sell shower filters because
in his opinion they don't work--says water is forced through them too
quickly to remove much chlorine.

Thanks in advance,
Deborah

Re: CS>Silver For Infected Tooth

2004-03-26 Thread DByron
Garnet, consulting an acupuncturist might help you find a way to avoid a
root canal, as you continue using CS. Apparently acupuncturists
strongly discourage the destruction of any nerve tissue, as happens in
this procedure. You also might be able to get a referral to a dentist
willing to use minimal intervention approaches when possible who will
try to help you save the tooth.

Best of luck with this,
Deborah

Re: CS>Detecting Silver In The Blood

2004-03-18 Thread DByron
I strongly disagree. Human beings create the need for testing--let all
medical/drug testing be done on willing human subjects and stop the
rampant abuse of lab animals. The results obtained will have greater
correspondance to reality.

I should have added that I combine dry ingreds. to have on hand and then
mix with the wet only when ready to brush. Otherwise the peroxide would
fizzle out.

Being new to the list I'm not sure whether this particular homemade
toothpaste has been shared, but I've found it helpful with gum
problems. Now I use CS in the formula, as well as the peroxide/CS
mouthwash learned about here.

water (or CS)-- 1 tsp.
3% hydrogen peroxide -- 1 tsp.
salt -- 1/8 tsp.
baking soda -- 8 tsps.
