Re: [RCSE] DAW 1-26 HLG with ailerons ?
Graeme, The DAW s 1-26 would make a great aileron trainer to learn aerobatics with use Hitec HS 81 metal gear servos for the wing servos. If you have a computer radio run to 12" servo extension leads for the ailerons so you can have flaps for landing.Mark the leads left and right with tape so you don't get them mixed up. Hi All, To all those have built the 1-26 HLG with ailerons, I am curious as to its flying characteristics ? I have a 'poly' 1-26 which I am very happy with, but was wondering if the aileron version would be very aerobatic ...rolls etc ...and add a bit of excitement to light wind sloping ? Is it as stable as the poly version ? I have never had an aileron equipped plane, would it be a good trainer for this ? Any comments would be appreciated before I decide to buy ...again !! [RCSE] for MARK WOLFE
Mark, tried this as a reply direct to you, but it got bounced... so here it is on the exchange: Well, if you're coming from California... then no, there are no slope sites in Seattle. But there are slope-like options for flying. In a south blow, Gasworks park has a little speed-bump of a hill that is kinda fun for tiny little planes like red herrings, but it's a very urban setting with lots of other park users and you have to be pretty careful. If you fly at actual slopes, you will go there and ask where's the slope?? If it's blowing south to southwest on Puget Sound and not raining like crazy (which does happen some in the winter), then Discovery Park has a bluff that produces pretty darn good lift, but you will NOT want to be losing your plane over the edge... all trees and thicket... often very difficult to FIND a downed plane, much less get it back. Pretty serious lift, though. There are apparently a few semi-coastal sites up as far north as Bellingham, but at an hour and a half out of town in sketchy and changing winter weather, I don't really consider those 'slope sites around seattle' And out east of Seattle there are mountain sites, but they get less viable in winter, and are a pretty serious drive, from one to five hours, depending, often requiring 4wheel drive, etc, and getting high enough that the conditions may be FAR less than pleasant at midwinter. Whidbey Island has a couple beautiful West facing slopes and is not too far from Seattle, but catching a good day in winter with the right wind direction is a trick and a half. Sorry not to have more to offer, but we have a pretty distinct building season here in the rain city. Feel free to get in touch when you're in town. I am set up with pretty good links to weather conditions for the various sites and would be happy to help with scoping lift once you're on site. Besides, I'd love to see a Shrike/Elf do its thing! 633-1206. Lift, Scobie in Seattle RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] TG-3 Controls Question
I'm building a DAW TG-3, my first model airplane. I'm working on the fuselage now and have cut the battery, receiver, and servo compartments. I'm about to cut notches in the fuse for the control rods but I have a question about which servo arms(?) that I should use on the servos. I have a Hitec Focus 4 radio and am using HS-300 servos. The servos come with a circular servo arm. But, it also comes with 3 other servo arms, one with 2 longer arms 180 deg. from each other, one with 4 arms, and one with a single arm that has a slot for an adjustable radius. I'm not sure which one of these servo arms to use on the servos. The instructions state that there should be a throw from center of 1.5 to 2 inches for the rudder and a throw from horizontal of 0.75 inches for the elevator. The instructions state that the throw can be adjusted by moving the clevis closer or farther on the rudder and elevator control horns. I'm wondering if I need to worry about the throw at the servo end of things, and if so, if I need to take the servo arm distance into account when cutting the notches in the fuse for the control pushrods. You can either use the single arm or cut the 4-arm one single arm. Use the arm that when the servo is at neutral it aligns to a right angle with your control rod. That usually works the best. Length of arm will vary depending on type and torque of servo. You can adjust either ends of your linkage to get the throw necessary. Start with the arm the same length as the control horn, then move the clevis or Z-bend on the servo in closer to reduce throw or move the clevis in closer on the control service horn to increase throw. Wing loading = 10.2 ozs/sq ft We now own the rights to this kit, but it will be awhile before we reintroduce this kit. My only recommendation is, to try and find a second hand kit. There should be a bunch of them floating around, about 75 have been offers to us. We do have replacement fuselages in stock, about 400 pcs., if there is enough interest, we may offer this glider as a short kit. Re: [RCSE] Which Futaba 8 Channel ?
Don's address as far as I know is [EMAIL PROTECTED],. Definately get the book. I've not yet flown TD with mine but am told that the three position switch is easier to use on the Helo version as it is above hte left corner of the radio. The regular Glider version tranny has it above the right corner of the radio. Primary control is on the right stick so they say the switch is an advantage being on the left side, and a little less dumb thumb proof as opposed to flying with the right stick, and trying to control launches, normal mode, amd landing switch and primary control all with the same hand. [RCSE] RCSE Woes
I haven't gotten an RCSE since Thursday, so I know something's wrong. I unsubscribed and re-subscribed, sucessfully, I think because the server sent me messages acknowledging the un- and re-subscribe. I did do it for the Digest, so maybe that's the problem and the RCSE is operating OK. Would someone getting the digest e-mail me, please. And, if anyone has the e-mail address of the guy at Model Airplane News who runs the RCSE, please e-mail me. I must be hooked, I really miss the RCSE. Plus I wanted to read the posts about Joe Wurtz' seminar and see if any of the 40 attendees thought it was as terrific as I did. Richard Shilling RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
