Re: [RCSE] RCSE down for weekends?
It is either the ACLU or the thermal cops that take RCSE down now and then.Hunting thermals is dangerous..HL. folks are hurting arms and shoulders..TD flyers are spending "WAY" too much time in the sun and are getting sun burned and when they break a tow line all kinds of "REAL BAD" things can happen...We are being investigated!!! more on the weekends than any other timeMy 2 centsBrian Smith Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] First Emerald!
Hi All, I just received my first moulded sailplane, thanks to Ed Sleger and Skip Miller! Of course it is gorgeous and I want to do things right so my question is about mounting servos in that moulded wing. Yes I have read the direction and I know how Skip suggested to mount them but I know that this question has also been posted to the list a year or so ago and that there are other elegant ways to solve this task. Please send to me privately or via the list how you like to mount your servos in a moulded wing. Thanks. [RCSE] Cutting Elliptical Cores
I was wondering if anyone out there has developed a technique for cutting foam cores for elliptical wings (ala Spitfire ). For example, instead of cutting a 3 panel wing, 1 core is cut with a curved leading edge. Kristopher RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] Muncie Reposted
Yes, the air is "challenging." Hence, my post. But whatever you do, don't think that Cali is a launch and a speck every through. We can all romanticize the great conditions, but when the air is hot, the cycles get really spread apart and the wind is both strong and shifty (as in tublunet, not necessarily indicating up/down air) you'll indeed remember that the grass is not necessarily greener. You guys back there enjoy one end of the spectrum and we enjoy the other. Both will have equally hard times on eachothers' turf. I won't show up in Muncie without an ultrafloater, and when y'all come to Poway, you'd better have something that has legs in the wind. Yes, we may seem to take things for granted sometimes, like flying against the top half dozen HLG pilots in the world whenever we want, being able to work "light" lift with a 9.5oz bird and having a half dozen flight centers within an hour's drive. But we do appreciate these things as blessings, and soak up the knowledge and experience while we can. - Original Message - From: "Gregory Morris" [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: "RCSE" [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, July 28, 2000 4:35 PM Subject: [RCSE] Muncie Reposted You guys from California don't know how good you have it. Re: [RCSE] Tail sections vs. handling
Thanks John. I stumbled across the CRCC website yesterday and found Drela's new HLG. I'm always looking for cool HLG airfoils and will give them a look. Never did think about a turbulator as you suggested. That might even be easier than sanding kevlar, carbon, glass and foam :-) So where's that lift dist for poly's Derek RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] Vac Bag HLG wing layup
All glass is a "good thing" for hlg wings. My Uplink uses a single layer of 1.4oz glass overall with a second layer extending out about 5 inches from center on the top and 4 inches on the bottom. I put a shear web in out to the poly break at about the high point in the wing and cap it with a 1 inch strip of 1.4 oz glass. I use 0.013 inch pre cured glass for the shear web but a strip of 1/64th inch birch ply will do as well. If you use any carbon in the wing, you need to put enough in to carry all of the load as the glass will flex beyond the breaking point of the carbon. Glass is also a lot cheaper. I put a 1 inch strip of 2.5 oz glass on the LE to solve the midair problems. -- Dick Barker Seattle, WA - The Old Fart Glider Flyer - http://www.eskimo.com/~dickb/UpLink.html Whats the reccomended layup for a HLG wing. The span is 60", aspect ratio is about 12 to 1. I would prefeer to use just glas... RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. In a message dated 07/29/2000 5:11:58 PM Central Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Come on, someone has to have the 2 meter results. I couldn't go this year and am living vicariously through the experiences of the others. Someone cough the information. hmmm...having just returned from Muncie (again) I can say the 2M results were posted, and I do recall glancing at them, but you'd probably have to hypnotize me to salvage any memory I may have of them. Besides, I've heard for years that friends don't let friends fly 2 meter, so I figure all the 2 meter contestants must just be some very unfriendly people that have alienated all their friends and we probably shouldn't encourage them. I can say that Daryl "my middle name keeps changing and is usually in quotation marks" Perkins was number 1 in open class "just TD," followed by Jim Thomas and Karl Miller (fellow SOAR club member, way to go Karl)! So Daryl takes 3 big events, F3Beep, F3J and unlimited. I think he's starting to get the hang of it. Today saw Marc Gellart take the Nostalgia contest, abbreviated as it was by storms that we just managed to avoid, thanks to the weather reporting courtesy of AMA. Lenny Keer wrested the coveted RES title in a similarly shortened 2 round RES contest. The organizers of the NATS have really gotten the running of this affair down to a science. Arriving at the winches felt very much like parking your car at Disneyland in California. All very well choreographed. Just follow the simple directions and before you know it you're being told "Launch 9!" Marna Jeffries runs a very efficient impound booth. Do not even try to get your transmitter before it has crossed the rubber yellow line. Severe tire damage will result! Thanks to all for a great NATS!
