[RCSE] Fw: Wood Crafters Soar In Reunion up date, 3-29-02. Sold Out!

The event has single entry per frequency to allow flying at will (when the lift is on the field) and all the frequencies except Ham Band are taken. I have 51 entries (one on Ham) and all of us are eagerly looking forward to the weekend of flying only woody sailplanes plus Speed 400 planes. This will be laid back flying at it's best, but I intend to win the Longest Single Flight Special Events Category and I know Don Harris and others are aimed in the same direction. So it maybe laid back, but there will be some real competitive flying and all about thermal flying. Don and I have been dueling with R/C Sailplanes since the early seventies. Mike Garton's Soaring article in the latest issue of Model Aviation proved to me he knows what I am trying to accomplish with the Wood Crafters format and I appreciate the early press on the May 25-26 event. Thanks Mike and I have more kit designs to put up on your great list of RES and Nostalgia designs. Ray Hayes RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] IWA Glider
I too saw that add and noticed the snake-oil-saleman-like claims of super-genius performance. Overall I thought the thing in the picture was better known as a tri-plane (please add Doctor Evil fingers quoting in the air yourself to get the full effect). Of course what do I know, I was too chicken to get an aero degree and wound up with a boring old mech-e one instead. -Skye - Original Message - From: Tom H. Re: [RCSE] vacuum pump - air conditioner compressor
Erik Lotoszynski wrote: Will a compressor from an air conditoner draw enough vacuum for bagging? Possibly. People have used old refrigerator compressors http://members.ozemail.com.au/~flyingwing/vacbag/ I think modern refridgerants require higher vacuum than Freon did, so it might work really well. It wouldn't have to be continuous duty if a vacuum switch is used with a narrow deadband. More imporant is the sealing of the bag, and of the pump (I've got a checkvalve on my pump as it leaks) If there are no leaks, deadband doesn't matter. If you have leaks, narrrow deadband is preferable, but can mean more cycling of the pump, which causes reduced motor life. If the run time is too high, you have leaks. If you can't seal the leaks, adding a resevoir helps to decrease the run time. Also, what is the purpose of the reservoir? As Einstein said, Everything's relative. Even when it comes to vacuum and leaks! :) A small leak takes longer to drop the vaccum on a larger volume. A vacuum resevoir increases the volume of the bagging system, so the vacuum pump runs a whole lot initially, but less once the target level of vacuum is reached. Aim for 15 seconds of pump run time every 10 minutes or more if your workshop is within earshot. -- Andrew E. Mileski Ottawa, Canada RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] Receivers
Hi, Is anybody using the new JR R700 7 channel receiver in a molded plane (eraser) and if so how has the performance been? I need to buy a new receiver and consider buying either the R700 or an 8 ch Hitec superslim. Have used the R600 for a few years, and have not had any problems. Please inform if you can. Re: [RCSE] 2 meter favorites?
Hi James, I like the Lil Dork from NES and the ruby. the Lil Dork flys at 35 oz. and is good for balmy days. The Ruby, also from NES flys at 43, 44 oz. and will launch to the moon and really penetrate. It flys like it was lighter and lands very well. Thermals, Art James V. I really like contesting my Organic 2m, mh32, stiff and strong, launches great, 28oz., pretty open bay wings with transparent covering, probably one of the best contest 2m's available right now. Probably not easy to get one right now though... Re: [RCSE] Eclipse V
Hi Kent, I have an Eclips for sale because I don't have time to fly all the gliders that I have. If you are interested I will get the literature out of the box and give you all the details. They do fly very well and are good looking. My time limit is due to my wife's illness. I spend most of my time taking care of her. No problem, it's just the reason I have some gliders for sale. [RCSE] Hybrid Initial Opinions
I just got a chance to pull the Hybrid http://www.nesail.com/hybrid.htm out of the box and I thought I'd give the list my first impressions. First of all, it's light, VERY light. I weighed each component on a Weight Watcher scale which has a resolution of 2g. To my total amazement, each stab half was exactly the same weight, each wing tip panel was also the exact same weight! I've personally never built any plane, either from a kit or scratch built that came out exactly the same. Simply Amazing. Now for the weights: Stabs, 34g-1.125oz Wing tips, 218g-7.5 oz Center Panel, 416g-14.25 oz Fuse, 291g-10.125 oz Pushrods, 17g-.0625 oz Bag of hardware, 44g-1.5 oz With the plane assembled but no radio gear or pushrods in the fuse, the Hybrid balances about 2 forward of the trailing edge of the wing. This of course means that very little if any nose weight will be needed to get the balance point located where it needs to be. With 6 servos, battery and rx I think we should/could make the minimum weight listed on the website! The overall craftsmanship it very nice. I left it out in the sun today to see what the covering would do and for the most part it stayed tight. Only on one wing tip and one stab tip will I need to touch it up with the heat gun. Now for the less than perfect things. First, no instructions. I got my kit second hand but the person I got it from said he didn't get any instructions either. For an experienced modeler that's no problem. At least a CG would be nice though. Next, the provided mounting bolts look perfect to put a winch frame together with, but not a high performance sailplane. The stabs appear to be a little small. But you need to remember I'm coming from a background of Super V's which have typically larger stabs than most V-tails. .Finally, the flaps only go down about 45' instead of the normal 90'. This may prove to be plenty though with the light overall weight. I also would have liked to see a towhook in provided in the accessory bag. Please remember this isn't a kit review and I'm not ragging on anyone. These are just my first impressions, not the final say so. gv RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] Aveox Service
I had to send my Infinity 2 charger to Aveox for repair. Some of the buttons wouldn't work all the time and the fan ran constantly (it program controlled and didn't used to always stay on). I talked to Lisa in their service department called me today and informed me that she received the charger, and the charges actually go to Germany for repair. Aveox replaces the chargers for the customer with either a referbished unit or a new on. Lisa informed me that they had just sold their last new charger yesterday and a new shipment wasn't due in from Germany until next week. Fortunately, the order came in today with a shipment of brand new chargers. So I'm getting a new charger to replace the defective one. I appreciate Aveox calling me back and keeping me abreast of what the story was with my charger. Even though she didn't have a remedy until late today, she did let me know what was going on and approximately how long to expect my charger in return. Thanks for the great customer service Aveox! gv RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Send subscribe and unsubscribe requests to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
