[RCSE] Need some help winding up my hi start.
I am currently using a Orange colored reel that can be found at Home Depot that was designed to be used to as a reel for outdoor electrical extensions. I wind the rubber up first to get a larger dia. hub to wind the nylon string up faster, but alas, its way too slow for this aging flyer. Any out there with a better idea including some type of power rig. I thought about some type of spool that I could put on a cordless drill motor. Any Help out there? RE: [RCSE] Need some help winding up my hi start.
Well, Stan, a friend of mine suffered a similar fate when he found he needed some heart work. Walking back and forth to chase the 'chute, set up and tear down were too much for him to handle alone. He went to electric sailplanes. There are several planes you can get that weigh less than 80 ounces ready to fly. They have quite spirited launches with their brushless motors, and land slow and controlled with their flaps and ailerons in the 'crow' position. I know that doesn't directly solve the rewind problem, but I thought I'd throw this out to you. gv -Original Message- From: Stan Myers [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, August 30, 2004 7:22 PM To: Soaring Digest Subject: [RCSE] Need some help winding up my hi start. Simple deal for a power wind up. Cordless drill yes. Sanding pad arbor from the hardware store The reel is the trick. The old white plastic ones had a wooden dowel held in with a wood screw on one side, the Sanding disc arbor fit right in the screw hole.. Gordy

Any Help out there? another not quite the answer but if you mark the middle and wind from the middle you have 1/2 the winding to do. also you can get spools and cordless drills that will work, if you cant find the spool you want then you can always make one. [RCSE] Pine Island Scale Aero-Tow
You are cordially invited to attend the Third Annual Pine Island Scale Aero-Tow which will be held on Sunday, September 26. Located in the heart of New York's historic Black Dirk Region, Pine Island is one of the country's premier soaring venues. Our site is located on a spectacular sod farm with unending acres of meticulously mown grass in every direction plus outstanding thermal activity. This is a one day event and well worth the effort to attend given the caliber of the site and the flyers who partipate. Rain date will be the following Sunday, October 3. There is a $10 entry fee which will cover the cost of unlimited launches, lunch, gas for the tugs and a very fine laser engraved commmemorative gift for all attending. (No entry fee for tug pilots.) We highly recommend pre-registration or contacting us if you are considering attending. Please email Richard Behrends ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) or myself. We will respond with additional details and driving directions. AMA licenses required. We look forward to a great event. My suggestion probably won't be immediately helpful to you, but I modified my high start reel at the advice of a club member to increase the effective reel diameter by drilling several (six?) holes around and epoxying in 1/4 wooden dowels. I reel in the string first and then the rubber, and I managed to guess the placement of the horizontal spokes well enough that my rubber still fits. The advantage is that I get about one revolution per pace on my home depot extension cord reel. Buddy Roos made the suggestion. [RCSE] 50 Reasons Why I Can't Fly England
Its not a hit song for me, butthat's what it amounts to My Sportube is ready, so am I...but apparently England isn't... :-( I'll put it this way, I tried to get into a contest, but the one available is an 'inter club' thing where the top 5 pilots from each club face off, second leg of a two part seriesand 72 mhz is illegal...and oh well. Mostly just bad timing, there's some of that F3F stuff contests going on this weekend, and a big one the following Sunday when I have to leave. The British F3J guys all got stuff going on, or we'd be out having our own thing going. Bumming, me and my Pike really wanted to test their skills. :-( Can you imagine the guilt those guys will have to bear, realizing that they have helped make my wife happy on this trip! Gordy

Stan, Who has the club wench? That would take care of turning of the spool.. When Joe Therlkeld and I used to fly all the time at the farm I used to bring my kids out to the field and pay them 25 cents each time they retrieved the cute after launch. That worked great until they were a little older and got wise to what we were doing. lol Thermals Mark Soaring Is Life!!
