[RCSE] Kudo's to Craig Greening of Servoframes

2005-06-15 Thread Stan Myers
Recently George Voss did some installation of Craigs servo mounts for
me. There was a mix up as to how I was going to be billed between
Craig,George and myself. Anyway to make a short story even shorter. I
contacted Craig to make payment and he was gracious enough to tell me to
forget about the bill due to the mix up.

I'd like to pass on my thanks to Craig to board members. Good vendors
need to be recognized . www.Servoframes.com

fliers and this is one of the nicest fields you will ever fly on. Pilots brief
will be ~9:15 AM both days and remember that the field is open Friday for a
short HL contest and then fun flying, I promise that this year the tornado

[RCSE] Re: max wind speed for f3b contest ?

2005-06-15 Thread Jo Grini

12m/s (26,8mph)

Last year and 5 years ago (i think) we had Nationals (Norway) in 11-12m/s.
Many pilots was way down the list because they had not practiced in these
conditions.. I normally use 1,35 or 1,45 line and only use the pedal for the
first 1sec and the zoom (so I dont get the line tangelled into the elevator)
Cant beat those mono launches with a strong F3B model full of lead ;-) 320m
is my personal best (1050ft) that I have managed to meassure.

From the Ciam rules (sc4-abr.05.pdf)

B.13. INTERRUPTION OF THE CONTEST

B.13.1. The contest may be interrupted or the start delayed by the Jury if:

a) The wind is continuously stronger than 12 m/s (9 m/s for Free Flight,
Scale and Space Models)

measured at two metres above the ground at the starting line (flight line)
for at least one minute (20

seconds for Free Flight), unless specified otherwise in category rules.

b) The visibility prohibits proper observation of the models (especially in
case of F/F or R/C contest) or

due to atmospheric conditions it would be dangerous to continue the
competition.

c) It is necessary to reposition the starting line. This may only take place
between rounds, or groups in

F3B and F3J.

d) The prevailing conditions are such that they may lead to unacceptable
sporting results.

e) For F3A, F5A, F3C and F4C contests the sun is in the manoeuvring area.

In the event of an interruption during a round, the remainder of the round
may be completed as soon as

conditions allow, with adequate notice given to all competitors and Team
Managers.

hi,
anyone know what this is ?

thought i would practice some speed runs in the wind.

had 42oz of ballast in the X-21, wind blowing 22-30 mph with good
thermal activity, launching on mono, UNBELIEVABLE launches!!!

Had my heart pumping good, until i go to land in my rotor riddled
field, brought the heart to a fast stop trying to land this thing. :-)
doesn't help having 30 mph winds cycling there way thru a bunch
of airplane hangers. :-)

[RCSE] Polecat Silent Auction

2005-06-15 Thread Dave Register
Guys, fair warning for the weekend - I'm setting out from Oklahoma for
Polecat Challenge tomorrow and one or two of you may wind up being
'Geezered' ('Geezered' = out pointed at a contest by perhaps the oldest
coot on the field).

I'm 60 years old, bad back, bad shoulder, bad heart and pretty
arthritic. Heck, on the days when I can remember where I put my plane, I
can barely launch it over my head. If, by some strange confluence of
fortune and meteorology, it stumbles into lift, it stumbles back out as
soon as the pilot tries to do something with it.

Ah - fresh meat for the east coast guys! Yes but .

For the few of you who may be 'geezered' in the flight points, the ONLY
way to avoid total ignominy in Carlisle is to beat my bid in the Silent
Auction and I'm not going down without a fight (unless it's nap time).

Do YOU want to be among the few, the shamed and the beaten who have
succumbed to a guy maybe twice your age (and on a fixed income)? Keep
your pride intact by getting your Silent Auction bid in to Denny ASAP.

See you there.

Hmmm, better add that to the list - must remember to pack the bifocals.

Now where did I put the cane?

[RCSE] DARTS Sanctioned Nostalgia and RES contests this weekend (June 18th-19th)

2005-06-15 Thread Douglas, Brent

This weekend the DARTS
will be hosting their annual Nostalgia and RES contests. These are
seperate, one day contests with Nostalgia on Saturday and RES on
Sunday. Entry fees are 15 per contest or 25 for the
weekend. Trophies for top 3 places (at least).

Both contests will be
flown seeded man on man, and there will be a generous spacing on launches for
the Nostalgia contest (to avoid any problems with launching the woodies).
Pilots meeting will be at 930, with flying to start immediately after.

Map to the field on
our home page, www.daytonsoaring.org.

Weather looks to be great
in Dayton this weekend, hope to see you there.

Re: [RCSE] Zenith X

2005-06-15 Thread Barry Andersen
I've flown an Xtail a bit, and the v-tail quite a lot.  The book on the Zenith is that they are a great floater, lots of wing with a highly cambered airfoil, this is certainly true.  Other part of the book is that they don't have the "legs" to travel, I have not found this to be a problem with a bit of reflex dialed in, the Zenith will move nicely.I got an Icon and X tail within a couple of weeks of each other, flew both a bit to get a sense of which to make my primary plane.  Frankly, it was a hard decision, these are both excellent sailplanes.  I opted for the Icon, but again, a hard decision.FWIW, Rudy Seigel won OVSS #1 with a Zenith X.  My X tail is for sale, as is a V-tail as I have too many toys at this point.  If you or others are interested contact me offline for details.  This hasn't colored my mini-review above.Hope this helps you someBarryOn Jun 15, 2005, at 8:21 AM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Greetings,   Is there anyone flying a Zenith that would tell me what they think of the ship?  You know, "the good, the bad, the ugly".   TIA     RD Fayetteville, GA

[RCSE] IHLGF 2005 Final Scores

2005-06-15 Thread Ron Scharck

We have cleaned up
our act and made the final score sheets easier to read and, for those picky
ones out there that actually want to see all of the rounds posted, we have
included all the pilots and all the rounds, even the Throw-out rounds.

Thanks to all the
pilots who attended, especially those who had to travel long distances to get
here. Thanks is a little short of expressing our appreciation to
those International pilots, all nine of you, who among other things, had to
show a passport or visa to get here. What a great opportunity it is to be able
to mix and mingle, talk and commiserate, listed and learn from such a broad
range of talent from the width and breadth of the US to the four corners of the
world. All this and fly HLGs for three days. It's hard to believe and yet it
happens every year at the IHLGF.

Next years dates:
June 3-4, 2006. Hope to see you here!

Re: [RCSE] Fazer receiver

2005-06-15 Thread Steve Meyer
I have been using a simple old Hitec Supreme receiver in my Extreme. Used
in many contest situations and far away, no glitches. I do run the
antenna outside the fuselage. Exiting 3 from rear of tow hook and then
taped to belly of fuselage leading aft.

The Xtreme has a lot of room for a large receiver. However my Escapes have
much less room, and I have been using Hitec Super Slims.

fuselages. That's what I put in all my new models unless I need more
 channels or it's a park flyer (R610UL).

Yup...I switched to the R770S for all my models. A great
 performer and
 a really small size.

Starting to sound like a JR commercial around here. I would be a bit
skeptical if I didn't own 4 of these R770's myself. :)

I flew with an R700 for a year or so recently. I was not as happy with that
one. I would see one flap drop full down every once in a while.

Re: [RCSE] Fazer reciever

2005-06-15 Thread Simon Van Leeuwen
Did you try removing the case? I do this frequently with Airtronic
OEM's, then use non-adhesive heatshrink to offer a some mechanical support.

The electrical characteristics change slightly, but not enough to
significantly degrade performance...

I just traded for an almost new Fazer. I have been using Airt 92778
recievers in my Eracer and Pike because they have been glitch free in the
carbon/kevlar fuses. Problem is I can't get this in the plane without major
problems. Was wondering what anyone else is using. Must be compatable with
Stuylus.
