[RCSE] Wanted - Kraft Series Seventy X-mitter

2006-07-12 Thread ownee77
For nostalgia reasons I am looking for a Kraft, Series Seventy six channel
transmitter. I'm not interested in any other year transmitter. It doesn't
have to be working but I would like it to be in decent shape. I simply want
to put it on the shelf in my workshop. It was the first quality radio I
ever owned, paid for with paper route money in 1977 - $449.95 !!

Thanks,
S Gibson

Re: [RCSE] Servo Reversing

2006-07-12 Thread Bill & Bunny Kuhlman
Depending on the size of the servo (and making sure you're not
operating on a digital servo) you may have enough room to perform the
modification outlined in our RC Soaring Digest article. The article
appeared in the August 2003 issue. You can download the entire issue
from the RC Soaring Digest 2003 archives
, or the article
alone from Andy MacDonald's web site, where the On the 'Wing...
Volume 4 archives are stored.

It's a matter of exchanging the motor leads and two outermost wires
coming from the potentiometer, but following the photos and text
description will no doubt make things easier for you.

Is there a way to modify a JR servo to reverse direction. My flying buddy
wants to combine his current 2-flap servo arrangement into a "Y" harness on
one channel and found that they go opposite directions. Reorienting the
servo will require severe modification to the servo well, linkage and the
wing itself. So, can the servo be modified internally to change direction?

Best 2 meter I have ever flown...no lie.

David.
I wouldn't have thought that the SD-7084 airfoil is slope oriented.
It is used on a bunch of HLG and DLG gliders, as well as a number of TD
models. When you look at your criteria, there isn't a lot available to you,
and the Starling Pro would certainly be amongst the top of the list. It
goes very well on the winch in TD contests and also shines on the slope.

There is information for improved strength in the spar and adding a spoiler

One of the finest built up nostalgia glider ever designed...IMHO

My last one came in at 31.5 ounces

I flew it last weekend in gusty wind up to 19mph with 20 oz of ballast and
it flew superbly.

[RCSE] Re: Soaring V1 #7928

2006-07-12 Thread Ed Anderson
I have seen the Marauder fly at an ESL event two years ago. Flew very well.
There is a build thread here:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=158826
The top and bottom spoilers are very effective.

I would probably lean toward the EZBD as I loved the plane when I saw Mark
Drela fly it. This one is probably 8 ounces heavier, but still probably
flies great!

The Skybench Bird has a great reputation. If this qualifies for Nostalgia,
and you want to fly that class, that might be the deciding factor.

Best Regards,
Ed Anderson

Re: [RCSE] Servo Reversing

2006-07-12 Thread Jerry Leach
You can internally revese the servo or buy a reversing y harness to accomplish
the same task. To reverse the servo you must reverse the motor leads and
reverse the 2 outside wires on the feedback pot- not the wiper. Some
adjustment to the pot position might be in order to get neutral where you want
it. Unless you are
comfortable with a soldering iron, it might be the better part of valor to go
the reversing y harness route.

Aw shucks, Tony, you make a man blush ;)

I managed to place 2nd in the MidSouth RES contest with the prototype
plane, too!

Having built an Allegro-Lite from "scratch", and then building the EZBD,
I gotta say the compromises Denny took to make it "EZ" are well worth
the time saved. It's a snap to build and so far I haven't even come
close to breaking the wing.

I'd build another one in a heartbeat.

RE: [RCSE] (Aussie 2M)...

2006-07-12 Thread Douglas, Brent
I thought you might be "surprised" by its overall look, but I swear,
half the reason it gets made fun of so much is because it just flies so
well. It came on the scene and beat a lot of much more expensive, much
prettier ships. A lot of people out there got beat by some ugly*,
inexpensive planes.

Most of the Mantises (Mantii?) had an MH32 airfoil (some 7037s), bagged
foam with a carbon tube spar. 3 piece wing, held on with a single bolt,
room in the wing mount for ballast. Phil Barnes put them out for a long
time, not sure if he still does tho. There are still a lot out there,
and except for the week before Nats, they're usually moderately easy to
find.

I flew against one of the 2 meter versions this weekend - it is strong
and light, and it really handles (turns and lands) extremely well.
Again, the biggest knock has always been how they look.

Good luck, hope you find something good -

Brent

*I always mean the fuse pod / wing mount - the wings always looked like
they longed to be on another ship.
