RE: [RCSE] Re: Soaring V1 #6696: LMR motor for Pike Superior
While I don't think anyone has a definitive answer to the question to BEC or not to BEC, the argument against a BEC is that the system drawing 100+ amps is much more likely to fail than the one drawing 1+ amps. Remember, we trust our unpowered gliders to those Rx packs all the time. RE: [RCSE] Foam F3F
I have owned both a 60 JW and an M60. If you are primarily flying frontside, as opposed to dynamic soaring, I would choose the M60. I can't comment from personal experience on any of the others. I have also seen a LEG One D (I believe with the MH-32 wing) fly, and it appears to be a very capable plane as well. I don't know about it's ultimateness, but my wife's Audi Allroad would fit your criteria perfectly. RE: [RCSE] No Mitts or Muffs, at least on the hill, This is the way to go
I don't know if this is universal, but I got a Multiplex transmitter tray for my Profi 4000. I figured that since I was accustomed to using a harness for my transmitter, the tray wouldn't be much different - only more stable. I was wrong. I'm accustomed to flying with my thumbs and the tray pretty much forced me to use my fingertips. All of the muscle memory that was trained into my thumbs went out the window. I was lucky to get my plane back in one piece the first time I tried it. For the moment, my tray is in retirement. I'm planning to acclimate myself to it on the simulator this winter. I don't want to argue with Gordy, but I've used my transmitter mitt on the slope a bit and it seems to be OK. I have used it with a DLG, and with an electric- both were also OK. I don't pull out the mitt until it gets really cold, though. I use gloves with the fingertips cut open much more often. RE: [RCSE] What is the current highest capacity for AA size batteries on the market today?
Hi Edgar, There is a Sanyo NiMH HR-3U that's 2300 mah. There is also an AP brand NiMH cell AP-2300AAH that's 2300 mah. Both have button tops. I have not tried either. http://www.batteriesamerica.com has them both. I'm pretty sure the Sanyos are widely availabe. RE: [RCSE] Visalia 100th Radio Goal, that was ME!
Before everyone piles on Terry Mickle, we should all note that the extent of his complaining (on RCSE, at least) was this statement: There was a posting before Visalia that there would be a JR 9303 given to the pilot finishing in 100th place. What ever happened with that? Since I finished in 100th place I'm just curios. To me, that doesn't quite qualify as taking a sponsor/donor to task. -Original Message- From: Bill Malvey [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, October 11, 2004 5:52 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [RCSE] Visalia 100th Radio Goal, that was ME! So I get this, Terry Mickle is unhappy because of a statement made on this list that the DONATED JR 9303 radio was to go to 100th place. I just looked at the original post. Is does indeed say 100th place, but NOT necessarily in open. Here's the message: http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg87492.html 100th place overall was: 100 James Ludwigson 2386 Odd he isn't writing posts about this. Further, it amazes me that anyone would take a SPONSOR/DONOR to task for how his donation was given away. I thought John Diniz explained it fairly well. But even if you wanted to hold them to the fire on the 100th place thing, I think it is just as easy to say it was 100th overall, not in open alone. CVRC made the decision, and I can hardly see how anyone can be upset. This was a last minute addition to their prize pool and the club decided how to best use it. Most have no idea how tenuous the relationship is with sponsors and getting donations. If they did, we would see fewer posts along the lines that got this thread started. Makes me wonder how quick JR will be to step up to the plate for more donations the next time they are asked. Oh well, let's get back to bashing Gordy. That's a far better sport!! ~~~ Bill Malvey RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. RE: [RCSE] what bird could it be?
Almost certainly a frigate bird. Here's a link to some pictures: http://www.oceanlight.com/lightbox.php?cs=-148. I've put in a lot of hours on the water in Cozumel and other tropical fishing hotspots, and they're pretty common. Fisherman love them because they're much better than we are at finding fish. Frigate birds are amazing. They are very good thermallers. I can only assume that thermals are generated offshore by sea surface temperature variations, because I've spent many hours watching them speck out 20 miles offshore. In Central America, it's called a tijereta. Hi, I guess it is not off topic because it is a about a wonderfull marine soaring bird, I have the oportunity to watch this bird in Cozumel (mexican caribe) for many hours and days, It was ammazing how eficcient would it be flying against the wind about 200 meters from the beach (in the ocean) I guess this bird was not thermaling because was not flying in circles, but there were absolutly nothing to create a slope wind current and almost never you can see this bord moving their wings I have tried unsuccesfully to identify this bird on many birds site, maybe somebody here can suggest what bord could it be the size is quite bigger than a seagull and I can bet it is not a seagull or alabtroos, of course it is not a pelikan, please take a look at the fiollowing frontal and top view thanks and brgrds frontal view /\ /\ / \ __ / \ /\ / \/\ __/ \__|body |__/ \_ \___/ Top view note that the tail is not the same length for both sides | / \ / \ / \ /\ / \ /\ / \| |/ \ /\ | | /\ __/ \__|body |__/ \_ | | | | | | | | | | \ / \ / \ / \ / / \ // \\ // \\ // \\ //\ // / / / / / RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] Apology to the list
I'm sorry I picked a public fight with Gordy. Nobody needs that. I'll not do it again. I can't say I completely regret it, because it did draw out Joe. I found his contribution quite enlightening. RE: [RCSE] Little Big Winch
I've had a Little Big Winch for two years. I think it's great for a one-man show. I've launched planes up to a Zenith with it. The Zenith will stall it if there's any wind (and maybe even if not), but you can still get a perfectly fine launch. Don't expect a big zoom. It's light and compact and easy to carry. Maybe not high-start convenient, but it launches better and is much more versatile than a high start. -Original Message-From: Steve Gibson [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]Sent: Monday, October 27, 2003 7:58 PMTo: rc Soaring ExchangeSubject: [RCSE] Little Big Winch I would like some feedback from flyers who are currently usinga relatively newLittle Big Winch. I would like to know your likes and dislikes concerning this specific winch. I have a small car ( Audi TT ) andonly have room fora small winch. RE: [RCSE] throwing peg repair - Acacia DLG
For those who asked about the Acacia, here are my (relatively uninformed) comments Dislikes: - it's heavy. Mine came in at 11.5 ounces with 5 servos - the vertical stab seems fragile to me. The bottom broke where the rudder is cut out. I would have preferred to see the rudder extend all the way to the bottom - the wing mounting holes were wrong I had to route with a Dremel to make the wing fit - it came with no instructions - the fuse is a very tight fit. I couldn't fit a Y-cable to put battery flap on channel 5, so I had to splice them directly. I'm a pretty inept builder, though, so it may not be a problem for most people Likes: - it's really pretty - the wing fuse seem to be well made - it launches high - it flies smoothly and very easily - it's really slippery, with great penetration and a low sinkrate Thanks for all the responses.
