[RCSE] Hitec Supreme 8 channels

2005-05-06 Thread Len Revelle
No instructions to be found. Can someone give me a listing of the
channel numbers (as labeled) vs their function on the Hitec Supreme 8?
I'm gonna use this in the 100" wing and need rt/left aileron and rt/left
flap channels.

[RCSE] 4-servo flying wing / 8103 help

2005-05-04 Thread Len Revelle
I'm assembling a 100" EPP wing that uses a 50" center section and 25"
tip sections. Each tip section has a servo/control surface and the
center section has a pair of servos/control surfaces. The wing (Queen
Bee) was designed to use y-servo connectors when assembled as a simple
elevon wing , a la Zagi on steroids. I would like to try something more
exotic like using the inboard surfaces as flaps or spoilers for landing.
I will likely use the y-connectors initially to tweak CG and get used to
the thing. I'll be using the 8103 and Berg 6 with HiTec 300 servos.

Question: Since the bird has to be set up with elevons, what is the best
way to set up a 4-servo flying wing so that it has spoilers or flaps
when using the 8103? Has any RCSE folk used such a wing?

I threw my "50MHz". duckie on an antenna analyzer and found it actually
resonant at 62MHz. I used it for thermal flying for several years,

Anyway, that suggests that the 72 MHz JRPA155 whip antenna from JR might also
work on 50 MHz. Still, we won't know for sure until someone does some tests

Co-channel problems are another issue, though very real. In either
case the result may be the same.

The current frequency control systems at most clubs work but still
depend upon the user to follow the procedures. Giving everyone the
ability to readily change frequency adds another variable the we only
occasionally have to deal with now. I've seen this happen already and
very few at our power club have Spectra modules.

Re: [RCSE] Park Flyer

2000-06-18 Thread Len Revelle

Actually the onus lies on all. Under AMA safety rules, and I'd suspect
the concept holds true with other underwriters, we are responsible to,
"not knowingly operate a radio controlled aircraft within three miles
of an operating flying site without a frequency use agreement," or
something close in wording.

Of course the concern is with the guy/gal who buys a park flier
without being told by the seller of frequency use concerns, etc.. and
this will happen if park flieres become staples of Wal-Mart and the
chain stores. I would hope our neighborhood hobby shop will tell them.

Some park districts here in the Chicago 'burbs have little mentioned
bans against model aircraft operation.

Unfortunately in these cases liability will be a moot point because
proving who done it will be dificuilt.

Re: [RCSE] 8103 Rudd/Elev programming from Sherman Knight

2000-06-14 Thread Len Revelle

One BIG advantage to me when mixing rudder to the aileron stick is the
fact that the rudder stick remains active.

As a right hander ( and an amateur) the first second or so of launch
finds my strong hand transitioning from the throw to the right stick.
A loose toss can be immediately hairy (or most Hobie launches I've
seen) so I prefer having the ability of having the rudder available to
the left thumb initially.

Well said, Greg.

Though I've not attained the $900 airplane category another factor
comes into play beyond time management, though this very much part of
why I am willing to pay for the ARF type.

I have a 9 x 9 room with closet that houses all my RC, ham radio, and
computer hobbies. Though I really enjoy building, I'm limited to a
2'x5' counter top inside a closet for building and usually find a
layer of dust on all the electronics. My building skills currently
would never allow me to produce the quality I can buy in the ARF's.

Those that can afford to buy the Millennium's and Stork's keep buying
them. I'm perfectly happy providing a home for that well cared for
Mystic or Sapphire.

Not sure what Futaba makes on 50Mhz but know they offer some of their

Hitec only offers the Supreme and has told me they will not make them

I have several JR's on 50Mhz, including the R600. Haven't seen
indication that the 610M will be on six though.

I am flying a Berg6 in the HLG and, thus far, am very happy with it.
.8oz in case (.4 out), six channels, about $75.00 with crystal. Ham
crystal is a few bucks higher than 72Mhz. Got mine from DJ Aerotech.

Hope this helps.

configuration, but that information fails me at the moment. I assume
the is an increase in effiency due to the end plate effect. I seem to
remember there is a reduction in adverse roll coupling. Is there
anything else that makes this configuration desireable? And yes, it
does look cool too...

If I recall correctly, Ray Hayes was promoting something similar to
the LSF at his Skybench page. Maybe that is the other route, so to
speak.

Re: [RCSE] Launching with ailerons reversed

1999-10-20 Thread Len Revelle

Can't imagine reversed ailerons! Had a guy talk me into launching his
electric with rudder on left and elevator on right. Was amazed how
uncomfortable I was . I fly power as well and am accustomed to
co-ordinated turns but not having the "turner" where it should be was
weird. Ended up coming around and landing, beautifully I might add,
but was still puckered.

Re: [RCSE] Old age sucks..

1999-10-02 Thread Len Revelle

Ahhh, but Grasshopper recall the advantages old age bears as
well. The error in dates is excusable with old age, one can flirt with the
younger gals and call it senility, heck one can even not recall it at all! Many
advantages to getting oldre if one thinks about it.

Due to many years of brake dust and exhaust I goofed on the

the conflict, but the kids here are all grown and I'm too old to trick or
treatmaybe not, I do look a lot like Yoda!
