OK boys and girls! This is a reminder that Sacramento Valley Soaring
Society's 15th annual Spring Fling is just two weeks away!! Start
packin' A couple of updates follow.
A list of nearby motels has been added to the SVSS web site. Click on
Spring Fling, then on Lodging. It's a good idea to make your
reservations now even if you're not absolutely sure that you're going.
At least you'll have a foot in the door, so to speak.
Be sure to check for open frequencies and get your sign up forms mailed
in. It's first come, first served on channel selection.
We're not doing T-shirts this year. Just too many irons in the fire!!
If you've already ordered and paid, you'll get a refund..
Lastly, no entries will be accepted after May 17th. We need time to set
up the flight order. Right now, there's plenty of time to get you entry
form mailed in. Please don't wait till the last minute. We don't want
to turn anyone down.
We're looking forward to seeing ya in 2 weeks for one of the best 2-day
contest in the free world.

Hey D,

Last 3 out of 4 times I've been to the Spring Fling were windy as hell.
The usual ritual for the windy sink conditions was to launch and head
straight for the row of trees to the west and do some wave surfing.
Also, The last Spring Fling I went to Bobby McGowan thermaled his image
about 5 feet off the ground for the last 4 minutes of his sink cycle
flight. The guy is just amazing to watch. I knew Bobby would flying with
a vengeance after his last round mishap at the Fresno Classic(that's the
one nobody wanted to let DP know about.:-))

See you guys at F3J TS or Visalia.

If you scored well in AZ, better get your butt up to

David, sorry the club web site is down. We're in the process of changing hosts and we
got cut off by the former. Our field is
pretty easy to find. It's located in the People's Republic of Davis, CA. We're 3.8
miles south of interstate 80 on Mace Blvd.
Tremont Road intersects Mace Blvd. at the entrance to the field. Just look for our
sign. Easiest way to get there is to take
Interstate 80 through Davis and look for the Mace Blvd. exit then head south. Dudley

[RCSE] Spring Fling Thoughts

2002-03-27 Thread Aeromk00

Hey guys . . .

I've been flying the Spring Fling since the first year, and have ALWAYS had a
great time . . . the conditions do really suck sometimes, but that just
brings out the best in the pilots. If you're looking for dead calm
conditions and endless thermals as a challenge for your 2-day contests . . .
well, not much of a challenge there. Visalia offers perrenial downwinds . .
. the Mid-south will give you forests and thunderstorms . . . and the Nats
are, well, the Nats.

When it comes down to it, these weekends are about having fun and hanging out
with the guys (and, this year, the new wife!!).

Quit grumbling and do what we do best . . . fly.

Mike,
Not all of the comments were about the wind. If a business has bad service
and attitude, it will go under. Wonder why there are less clubs in what used
to be the NCSL? Your CD hardnosed? You are hosting an event for your guest,
not people attending OWE you for putting on the event. There are the few
that will make or break an event such as this. I'm sure most members are
great and hard working, but it is those few, good or bad, that those
attending will remember.

He may seem a bit hardnosed at times but he gets the job done. You can
kill a contest with this kind of crap and you can kill a club Northern

2002-03-25 Thread Bill Gillis

Mr. Clancy -

You're opinion is well respected - hence the reason I asked if I was in left
field!

My point was simply that many are discouraged by the unfortunate turn of
events at summer -er- Spring Fling. Once a great contest (and likely still)
if it ever gets off the ground.

I'd like to see a "Flung what ya Brung regardless of what the weather does"
contest this year at the SVSS event. 'member, I'm a member of said club
(unless I forgot to pay dues, in which case the check is in the mail, right
after the IRS one) and like those fellows a great deal. My goal is to stir
shit, right 'nuff, but as well to generate interest in what has otherwise
become somewhat of a, well, blow out as I said.

OK, so I'll be there, but only because I want a place for my 7 mo. old kid
to go when ge grows up (which I plan to never do).

Sincerely,

One who wishes the March S3 contest had not been cancelled twice (by
himself) due to weather conditions.

The Spring Fling web pages got dumped from our server about a week ago.
I was at THE cross country event in Montague and just found out about it
today. The pages are relinked. Montague was fantastic!! If you've
signed up for Spring Fling, you'll find you name, class and frequency
posted on the SVSS web site (www.svss.org). FAQ's. Yes there is
camping permitted at the field. Water is available. Sorry, no
hookups. Club winches will be available for your use Thursday afternoon
and all day Friday. Lot's of time for fun flying. Yes, we are still
accepting entries and will continue to do so until Wednesday June 20.
Only nine days left. Sold out frequencies are posted on the pilots
page. Don't waste your time submitting an entry on a sold out
frequency. Motel 6 (3 miles from the field) still has a few rooms
available. Additional accommodations are not too far distant. Dudley

[RCSE] Spring Fling HLG

2000-06-22 Thread Pscrollsander

This is a request to anybody who will be attending the Spring Fling in sacramento
this weekend.

If you have a laser rangefinder, or can borrow one for the weekend, Can you
bring it down?

This would be an excellent opportunity to get launch comparisons in as many
ways as possible.

Thanks.

See guys, I am will to entertain the comparisons.

See you at Spring Fling.

Thermals,

Chris Adams
