You don't have to install Perl - it's (still) pre-installed with the
system. In particular if the control panel was already working.

This worked for me on Catalina 10:15:5 - definitelyI required a restart
in order for the permissions to perl and bash to kick in.

So the sequence was:
You there

1) INSTALL LMS

2) IN LMS CONTROL PANEL SELECT FOLDER(S) CONTAINING YOUR MUSIC

3) SETUP PERL, using the sequence her[/B]e:
https://learn.perl.org/installing/osx.html
macOS Editors and Terminals
Install "Command Line Tools for Xcode", either directly or through
Xcode, both available from Apple Developer downloads (free registration
required). Xcode can also be installed through the App Store
application.
Open the Terminal.app (found in Applications -> Utilities) and copy &
paste the command below into it (then press the 'return' key):
curl -L http://xrl.us/installperlosx | bash
Once this is finished (it takes several minutes), quit the Terminal app.

4) GIVE PERMISSIONS TO PERL AND BASH
Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Full Disk Access, and
unlock the settings.
Click the + button.
Now type Cmd+Shift+G. This will open a dialog where you can type a
path.
Enter /usr/bin and then select perl to add the permissions.
Enter Yeah/bin and then select bash to add to the permissions.

5) RESTART THE MAC

6) GO BACK TO LMS AND RESCAN
- go to tab "Advanced"
- select RESCAN

And yes it is! Yipee!

I had attempted this but it didn't work when inputting artist "Adam
Holmes, The Embers" (as seen in Spotify) or just "Adam Holmes" so I
tried inputting the album and also tried another artist and they worked.
Now know what I have to do.

Thanks again and I've just made donation, cheers.

Until I get my IR receiver from Ebay and try a remote I do not
understand. Two things mainly:
(You won't be able to access all areas of the controller functionality
from the remote without the menu key.)

(key symbols that you need to map)
I have a remote in mind from a Dreambox sat receiver.
It has a menu key but also vol+ and vol-.
Sorry to be dense.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS 8 with large media collection

2020-04-22 Thread Michael Herger

* Is LMS able/designed to manage this amount of media files at all?

Designed? I doubt it. Will it work? I'd say yes. I haven't seen an
installation big as yours, but we know there are installations of 600k+
tracks out there. Make sure you have plenty of RAM and a fast disk
system for the database available.

* Is it feasable to have LMS operaing on a read-only NFS mount (across
Gigabit Ethernet) instead of local files?

Yes

* LMS appears to scan the media file tags only. Is there a possibility
of instructing the scanner to derive performer, album & track names from
file names and paths instead?

LMS would prefer tags, but can fall back to path schemas like

/ARTIST/ALBUM/TRACKNUM - TITLE

to guess the information. But I'd strongly recommend you try to get the
tags done. If the files are well named and organized it should easy to
translate this into tags.

* LMS displays paginated lists in the Web UI. For long lists (~15000
entries), this is a royal pain in the behind. Are there any UI updates
that improve/fix this?

There are 3rd party solutions which might be more suitable.

* Playlist management: Do I see it correctly that playlists can be
externally written to some playlist folder that is configurable in LMS,
but each change requires a subsequent rescan of this playlist folder? Is
there no easy way/interface for writing the changes directly to the
corresponding SQLite DB (library.db, if I see it correctly)?

You can talk to LMS over a simple socket connection or JSON/RPC. This
gives you a lot of control over LMS' behaviour (see
http://htmlpreview.github.io/?https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Logitech/slimserver/public/7.9/HTML/EN/html/docs/cli-api.html).
One of those commands would allow you to add/remove/move items in a
playlist
(http://htmlpreview.github.io/?https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Logitech/slimserver/public/7.9/HTML/EN/html/docs/cli-api.html#playlists%20edit).

* Is LMS able/designed to manage this amount of media files at all? - I
don't see why not
* Is it feasable to have LMS operaing on a read-only NFS mount (across
Gigabit Ethernet) instead of local files? - YES
* LMS appears to scan the media file tags only. Is there a possibility
of instructing the scanner to derive performer, album & track names from
file names and paths instead? - NO
* LMS displays paginated lists in the Web UI. For long lists (~15000

but each change requires a subsequent rescan of this playlist folder? Is
there no easy way/interface for writing the changes directly to the
corresponding SQLite DB (library.db, if I see it correctly)? - You can
create and manage playlists from within LMS or externally. If you do it
within then changes are immediate as far as usage is concerned but
playlists will still be rescanned in the same way that music files are

You won't be able to access all areas of the controller functionality
from the remote without the menu key.

You could map KEY_VOLUMEDOWN and KEY_VOLUMEUP instead of the pause and
menu funtions. If those don't work then use KEY_MINUS (Volume Down) and
KEY_EQUAL (Volume Up)

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Genres, random playlist and extended characters - issue?

2020-04-22 Thread Franck@

Hello,

I think I found a little issue.

When I browse my library by genre, then click on the "M" (more) icon
next to the genre, I get two options:
- Random Mix Genre Songs
- Random mix Genre Albums
(At my home, the LMS interface is displayed in French. I am not sure of
the English translations that I mentioned here.)

In general, the playlists generated by selecting one of these two
options correctly use the selected genre. However, if the genre name
contains an extended character, the generated playlist does not use the
selected genre. (That's the issue.)

For example, with the genres "chanson française" or "flûte" this does
not work.

Obviously, when using Material Skin, I have the same behavior. But, with
Material Skin, when I click on a genre (without going through the "more"
menu) I have an additional option "random albums". This option, unlike
the previous two, gives the expected result, even when the genre
contains an extended character.

FYI, I'm using the latest version of LMS 7.9.3.
