I have "mixed feelings" about this feature and I'm wondering if I should not remove it. So erase your config and start from scratch, see if it plays. And yes, UPnP is a pain... and Roon does not support it so people use my bridge even in Roon :) I usually recommend starting with a simple set of mp3 or flac tracks first and see if that works. But I understand you might not have patience for that in which case, use AirPlay if possible on that model and if you don't like AirPlay then probably bin the whole idea before you get too upset and angry at LMS LMS 8.2 on Odroid-C4 - *SqueezeAMP!*, 5xRadio, 5xBoom, 2xDuet, 1xTouch, 1xSB3. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] UPnP/DLNA Media Interface vs UPnP Media Bridge plugins (Newbie...be gentle!)
Ok...now I'm starting to understand why people just do Roon, Sonos or Airplay. This gets aggravating quickly. I've got the UPnP Bridge installed, am trying to read and understand the User Guide to get things configured, but I'm getting stuck. 1. I'd like the volume to be controlled by the Onkyo, not LMS. Ideally, I'd like a fixed volume out of LMS, controllable at the Onkyo. If not possible, I'd at least like the two to accurately reflect the same volume. As it stands, the synch between the two is off. For example, LMS Volume says "30", Onkyo says "18". They're constantly fighting with each other. Which setting and where can accomplish this? 2. I hit play on a song in LMS, song appears to start playing, not audible in the Onkyo. If I move the playhead to the middle of the song, 3-4 seconds later it becomes audible in the Onkyo. The at the end of the song, the next track doesn't play. It appears "stuck" at the end of the current track. Any setting or solution to that? 3. What is the function of the Power Button in LMS where the tracks play? I accidentally hit that button in the middle of a track and my Onkyo's volume immediately pinned to 100. Guessing that should always be "On"? Screenshots of my settings are below. Any suggestions as to changes are welcome. 367303673136732 +---+ |Filename: SS 3.png | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=36732| +---+ RoyalScam's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=72440 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=115709 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

I actually use Material on an iOS device to control a playing instance of iPeng on the same device. Its largely because of the Music & Artist Info plugin integration via Material. I use the iOS device - iPhone or iPad - with an Audioquest Dragonfly DAC which will get me 24/96 and a decent pair of B headphones. Returning to the Onkyo. Try Phillipes UpnpBridge but note all the defaults before you start tweaking things. It can be made to work properly but I suspect you may need to do some tweaking. Also dont run the interface plugin at the same time. Upnp calls to it from rogue devices can flood your network. Upnp/dlna is not a very standardised protocol and rogue devices ie ones that dont have a very good implementation are quite common. Early smart TVs for example. Yeah, my Onkyo is the TX-8160, so no Chromecast unfortunately, just DLNA or Airplay. It would've been a no-brainer for anything above 16/44.1, and I suppose I could get a used/leftover Chromecast Audio to connect to it, but I'd rather stay with just the Onkyo. I know Airplay would be the smoothest option. I could even simply convert all of my FLAC to ALAC, use iTunes/Apple Music for my library and control with the iOS Remote app, no LMS necessary. I only want to use iPeng as a remote controller to play FLACs from my Mac to my Onkyo, so not sure the player mode is necessary. I keep reading about the Raspberry Pi options, but I'd still prefer to not add anything extra to my setup. So you say Material/Safari vs iPeng for control, huh? Interesting... Thanks so much, Phillipe! This should at least give me a better understanding and a good start. The reason I might switch to LMS permanently is that Universal Media Server doesn't have a great web app, and no native iOS control app (other than mconnect, which is gliitchy). Otherwise, UMS served my purpose. Plex, didn't. RoyalScam wrote: > See I know nothing about Squeezebox. Is there an advantage or > disadvantage to using my Onkyo as a Squeezebox? What does that even > mean? LMS is a music center system. It helps you manage your music library and search/play tracks, create playlists, access streaming services and so on. It has clients to control it from a web browser but also from your smartphone. Normally, players should be specialized devices named "squeezeboxes". They are not produced anymore by Logitech, but some clones can be created using a raspberry Pi and some weirdos like me have made "bridges" that allow airplay/chromecast/upnp players to fake a real squeezebox and integrate them into the LMS "ecosystem". One important feature of LMS is to be able to play synchronized music on multiple players, but that does *not* work with upnp or chromecast. Now, if you have only one UPnP device, don't know about LMS and just want to organize your library, there are other solutions that are UPnP aware and which might be easier to use (I don't want to say better because I don't want to start a useless heated debate and I don't have a strong opinion anyway). Using my bridge is fine, but UPnP players can be temperamental and can be frustrating to tweak to work well under LMS. Now, here you have a really good community of people that will help you. [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] UPnP/DLNA Media Interface vs UPnP Media Bridge plugins (Newbie...be gentle!)
Hello, all. I'll cut to the point. I've got a Mac filled with FLAC files. I've got an Onkyo TX-8160 stereo network receiver. I'd like to get the two wirelessly speaking to each other via DLNA (since my wireless choice on that receiver is either DLNA or Airplay). I've fiddled around with Universal Media Server and Plex, so this isn't -totally- foreign to me. Ideally, I'd like to access my Mac/FLAC library remotely via iPeng (or similar) on my iPad and feed the music to the Onkyo. Where I'm confused is to which plugin I'd need to enable to accomplish this: Andy's UPnP/DLNA Media _Interface_ or Phillipe's UPnP/DLNA Media _Bridge_. Yes, I've searched and read a bunch of explanations...still confused as to which and why, or if either, advantages/disadvantages. As they say on Reddit: explain like I'm five. :o RoyalScam's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=72440 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=115709 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
