The podcasts of the Swiss radio stop perhaps for years already after about 10' 30'' and I always hoped for an update that solved the problem. Attached the script and conf file. All based on bashpodder :-). Not the best written scipts, but it seems to work. Requires wget, curl besides the normal bash commands available. You need to restore the original filename. - 28442 - 28443 Functional changes to bashpodder: - updated extraction of episode URL to fit my podcast - updated conf file to allow URL and Title specification. Title to be used as target directory and playlist name - added function to keep only the last x files. - added function to initiate playlist rescan on LMS - adapted playlist creation to support a second basepath due to LMS running in docker and script running on server - added function to copy most recent episode to "latest.mp3" file in the podcast target directory +---+ |Filename: bp.conf.log | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=28443| +---+ -- LMS auf einem QNAP TS-653B in einem Debian Docker-Container Versionsnummer: Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.2 - 1571226194 @ Wed Oct 16 14:20:53 CEST 2019 Player: 1x SB Touch, 5x SB Radio, 1x SB Duet. bigcookie's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=63397 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110756 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Podcasts were originally handled the same in mysqueezebox.com and LMS which meant no storage. 2. It seems podcast servers are now been tuned to download rather than stream. Thismay be because of increasenbumber of users, increased size of podcast because longer & higher bitrate. This mean the only proper solution would be a plugin which it is a LMS only solution. * handles podcast RSS/XML feeds. * downloads the podcast at the same time as it being played. Once played the download is played or stopped, the file is deleted. * handle bookmarks and chapters (both MP4 and MP3). As user could initiate multiple podcast playback simultaneously and some podcasts are 100's Mbytes in size - not sure what might happen on Picore LMS systems with no disk. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110756 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

When ads are inserted - they seem to be "regional" - it implies use of a CDN network ( (sample size of 1 is not a good test) . Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] podcasts just stop at random
I dont know all the internals. I was thinking of running a cronjob which downloads the latest episode, makes sure only the last # episodes are kept and then forces a db rescan. I was also thinking of using the sane filename with overwriting (will lead to wrong information being displayed, but). So this would be outside LMS as my Perl and LMS skills are not good enough to do anything else. -- LMS auf einem QNAP TS-653B in einem Debian Docker-Container Versionsnummer: Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.0 - 1488878280 @ Wed Mar 8 14:36:54 UTC 2017 Player: 1x SB Touch, 2x SB Radio, 1x SB Duet. bigcookie's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=63397 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110756 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

I don't there is an easy solution. Within LMS there is no way to tell the difference between an remote MP3 stream and a podcast (extension, mime & URL designations - same for both) - so any special processing would have to happen at the Podcast plugin level and would have to create a new type to label podcast URL as a podcast and not just a remote MP3 stream (e.g. change saved URL from http:// to podcast://). MPEG-4 podcast can be distinguished but handling all podcast the same may be easier as there are very few http/MPEG-4 streams (i.e. no duration) as MPEG-4 is normally streamed with HLS or DASH. Once identified, then the simplest way to stream and provide intermediate caching would be to tell LMS to use a "transcoder" - which does nothing to data but buffers data and also facilitates "jump to time". Unfortunately to get metadata from the stream and to enable seeking a time point through a "transcoder" - means some more work in terms of a new Protocol handler - much of which will probably be passed to current LMS processing but still needs intercepting etc. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110756 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

I mentioned it just to confirm the underlying issue with a non LMS system. I also mentioned when I increase the cache (i.e use the mplayer -cache command line option) podcast plays OK. I think (would need to be confirmed) LMS player cache slowly gets depleted and so it stops. Mplayer with no cache stops after 1 min. Mplayer with a small cache which is not depleted plays OK. Usually sites which configure the servers in this way do it consciously to reduce network load/costs (i.e avoid users streaming, keeping number of network connection to a minimum which would otherwise block access to the site). bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110756 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] podcasts just stop at random
mplayer only fetches data as it is required for playing - no prefetching whole files. The podcast reliably breaks down after 1 minute when I use mplayer on a Ubuntu system with no cache. The podcast plays OK using mplayer with a 32kb cache. Haven't tested very often but cache level only occasionally goes down to 0% - so I think amount of cached data is not the issue. Thinking some more, when using https URL - LMS is handling all the https stuff and so is behaving as if "proxied streaming" is enabled. So to be thorough and exclude the possibility of a https issues - test playing the http url bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110756 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

I'm not sure how much of the 7.9.2 https stuff has been back ported into 7.7.7 bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110756 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] podcasts just stop at random
I changed the setting today and will be able to tell tomorrow and provide feedback... Thanks for the quick proposal and feedback. Explanation to my previous thought: I was thinking more of the behavior of the Podcast applications - instead of proactively downloading the content, one could start doing this on playback request. As the podcast history is normally not that long, you could delete the cached file when it disappeared from the RSS feed... Nevertheless I dont know if this is suitable or somebody is wlling to spend some time on it. -- LMS auf einem QNAP TS-653B in einem Debian Docker-Container Versionsnummer: Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.0 - 1488878280 @ Wed Mar 8 14:36:54 UTC 2017 Player: 1x SB Touch, 2x SB Radio, 1x SB Duet. bigcookie's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=63397 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110756 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Have you investigated the possibility of linux based podcast manager ? If an acceptable package exists, and it could be trained to download podcasts into a suitable folder on your music disk, then maybe that could effectively solve the problem for you. Just a thought. I have not investigated. mrw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38299 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110756 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] podcasts just stop at random
I have a similar issue with a podcast stopping each 5:00-5:30minutes... https://dasmorningbriefing.podigee.io/feed/mp3 It is 100% reproducible. Is there a chance to introduce caching in the 3rd party podcast application? So it caches and the server doesnt need to keep the stream open? It is really annoying to fast forward every 5minutes from 0:00 to the latest stop if the cast is 30minutes long... If ther eis anything I can do or help with, please contact me... :-) (I am unfortunately no developer). regards, André -- LMS auf einem QNAP TS-653B in einem Debian Docker-Container Versionsnummer: Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.0 - 1488878280 @ Wed Mar 8 14:36:54 UTC 2017 Player: 1x SB Touch, 2x SB Radio, 1x SB Duet. bigcookie's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=63397 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110756 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

I regularly listen to BBC Podcasts here in the UK, but cannot recall encountering this problem. I have had it on some other podcasts, occasionally, and put it down to an annoying remote server hanging up on me, part way through. mrw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38299 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110756 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] podcasts just stop at random
This behaviour as been noticed many times before but there can be a variety of reason - podcast server not "liking" a connection kept open for ling duration - podcast were intended to be downloaded and some server don't like streaming them as a TCP connection is kept open for a long time with no traffic. - local ISP / CDN issue - hardware - duration mismatch between podcast feed and actual podcast Most time no single / good solution was found as problem is often not reproducible but provide more details such as specific program being played, how is it "found", LMS version, player type, uk/nonuk, etc. As a workaround if using LMS and only for BBC - use BBCiplayer to play BBC "listen-Again" programs. https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?109809-Troubleshooting-Podcast-Halting-Error https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?109150-Podcast-download-instead-of-streaming https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?109017-Podcasts-stop-before-they-re-supposed-to-end https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?101277-Podcast-reading-stops-after-a-few-minutes bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110756 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Some extra info might help - for example: What version of LMS are you running (and on which OS)? Which player are you using (e.g. SB3, Touch) What do the LMS logs show? How are you accessing the podcast (menu route)?
