Check your spam folder. Probably more than half of them get it there.

And of course there are the various websites that offer something for
nothing, deals that are too good to be true (free high-def movies,
Nigerian scams, obscene photos of celebs who don't even take their
clothes off in the shower, that kind of stuff).

Easiest way for an upstanding citizen to find malware is to do an
ordinary Google search and then look through the hit list for "This site
may harm your computer."

As for working without a net, I'm all too aware, especially as I age,
that I'm fallible and often inattentive, so an AV program is cheap
protection. I wear a seat belt in the car, too -- I'm a safe driver, but
lots of others aren't. An AV program could miss something, but not by
being sleepy or distracted. And the day I discover I'm perfect, I'll
notify my clients I'm raising my rates. ;-)

Oh, I see. Not an add on then.
Something in basic SM settings instead.

I should add that in Safe Mode everything was good. So what's the
difference between Safe Mode and manually disabling all extensions and
plugins and running in regular mode? What else is Safe Mode doing?

On this page http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_Mode It is explained what
options you have to choose when starting in safe mode,
So if you had started SM in safe mode, this windows was visible to you
and you set some options .. no ?

The options window allows making Safe Mode settings permanent. I did
not set any.

The final solution was to create a new profile and migrate my settings
to it.

Spell checker has a mind of its own

2016-01-01 Thread Paul B. Gallagher
As I've noted before, SeaMonkey's spell checker periodically switches
language without prompting or authorization. For example, I was minding
my own business today, browsing English-language sites, and it silently
switched to the Russian dictionary.

Edit | Preferences | Appearance | Spelling
Language: English (United States) => Russian (Russian Federation)

I didn't notice until I began composing this message, when the entire
subject line, as well as the body text, was flagged with wavy underlines.

So I went into the pref and switched it back to English. No effect. Wavy
lines still there. Confirmed the pref -- still set to English (United
States), but ignored by the spell-checker.

So I launched the spell-checker (CTRL-SHIFT-P), and despite the
preference I had set, it checked the page against the Russian
dictionary. I switched it to English, and it still flagged "As" at the
beginning of this message. Not until I told it to "Recheck page" did it
get a clue and start using the English dictionary.

Apparently my preference can be overruled if SM decides that the current
page content isn't in that language. What I don't understand is why it
would do that for this message, and persist in the error even after I've
told it the correct language.

The language detection routine also appears to need work. Although roman
characters can appear in Russian text, it is highly unlikely than an
all-roman text, especially a long one, is Russian.

P.S. I do compose messages in Russian, which is why I have the Russian
dictionary installed. But this ain't that.

I upgraded to WIN 10 in September. Configured it to show GUI as in the past.
Program icons that looked like they did on 7 and XP with no problems. I run
only programs that were designed for the 'home COMPUTER' not I-xxx's and
Androids. For 'APPS' I use my i-Phone and/or i-Pad. Not my COMPUTER.

So what do you need, a COMPUTER or an APP machine? You make the decision.

What is "browse computers in Brazil" ?
A browser browse web pages located on a web server.
I cannot browe a computer

Actually, a browser can browse HTML/Web pages stored locally an a PC.
No Internet involved. No server involved. In Windows try opening
Windows Explorer and locating an HTML file. Double-click it. Your
default browser should open and display the file.

If you save an entire Web site locally and the pages are all HTML, you
can browse that "site" locally with no Internet connection. I used to
do it all the time with my sites when I named everything *.html. I
have since changed to *.php files. To browse those locally-stored
sites requires a local server. Still, no need for Internet.

However, I'm still not clear on the OP's dilemma. The language (or
other) gap is in the way.

He might resend it again in Portuguese so we can parse it through
Google translate. Hmm. Maybe he already did that.

Ok you are true ... I missed this point, but I cannot understand "browse
computers in Brazil" ... perhaps the ".br" extension is killed by his
SM, his firewall, his anti-virus, his provider , etc ... ?

Does being exposed to those security vulnerabilities mean that your are

Would a "RSA Signature Forgery in NSS" fixed in SeaMonkey 2.29.1 show up

Would any exploits of the over 100 security vulnerabilities fixed since
