A long time ago, when storage space was expensive, it might have
been reasonable to compress backups.  But now that storage space
is cheap, why have a backup that you need to unpack to read or
  copy?

For profiles and mail I use XCOPY new files - no, I do not run
with profiles and mail in the same tree, so they are also backed
up to their own trees.  I clone entire partitions and HDDs to
other HDDs so they are usable without any processing - yes, that
includes boot partitions from multiple OSs.  And none of this
cares what version of anything is used.

  Ray

 -
WOW! XCOPY.!  Used it quite a it back in DOS days an early
widows.

I was using MozBackup away back. until it became unsupported.
Was told that it still worked by an acquaintance and thought I
would ask the group to see if anyone else was using it.  Perhaps
someone had updated it.  Looks like the answer to both questions
is "No";.

Then I started using a batch file to back up my daily work -
including my profiles of SM and others,

For the last few years I've been using "Pure Sync", a free
program as my back up software.  It has many user programmable
features .

If you're referring to http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/ , that one
has been abandoned since 2012.  That's before Mozilla went to
Rapid Release for Firefox, and it's my understanding that the
developer stopped because even then, there were too many changes
to Firefox to keep up with maintenance.

I would not trust it for backups of Seamonkey 2.48 or 2.53.

Ultimately, making backups is merely a matter of getting the
contents of %APPDATA\Mozilla\Seamonkey copied to another location.

  Smith

True, but it was working up to 2.48.  I used it to copy when
installing SM on a laptop.
A friend asked because he wanted to do the same and I wasn't
sure if it worked after that since I've been doing a backup
doing the same as you suggested each night using a batch file to
get all my daily work backed up.

High Memory Usage 2.53.3 64 bit

2020-09-09 Thread 🐴 Mr . Ed 🐴 via support-seamonkey
I noticed today while running FaceBook and trying to turn off  Messenger
Active Status the screen went slightly blurry, the "X" in upper right corner
turned RED and the pointer became a spinning  circle. Everything froze.  I was
able to open Task Manager via the "Control-Alt-Delete" and checked
SeanMonkey.  Memory was just running up the scale.  Was a little over1GB when
opened Task Manager and was increase like crazy.  In about 30 seconds it was
almost to 3GB.  I then 'stopped' SeaMonkey.

I tried this again - same results.  Then I disabled Java Script.  Tried again
- same results.

Anyone else experience this with FaceBook?  Sending SM into a loop?  SeaMonkey
or FaceBook or (heaven forbid) my problem?

Go to 'Print Preview"

Check your setting for "Scale"

What is displayed in sent messages   this is.ÀÀ
What is received    this is.??

system/set-up:

I am using a desktop computer.

I am using Windows 10 Home

1 have 400 GB of Ram

My ISP is AOL.

My browser is SeaMonkey version 2.49.3

I also employ an application names MailWasher Pro, version
7.11.0

My computer virus scan software is WebRoot Secure Anywhere
version 9,0,20,31

Yesterday, I had my daughter send me a message with an
attachment---I never saw her message (either in my SeaMonkey
mail or in MailWasher).

I next saw a message (with an attachment)in MailWasher from a
source that was identified by me as a Friend.  I next washed the
rest of my mail and downloaded the good items to my computer.
The message with the attachment did not appear in my SeaMonkey
Inbox.  I could not find a trace of this message in the
MailWasher Recycle Folder or in an AOL located files.

I then observed another message in MailWasher that had an
attachment.  I decided to not take any action in MailWasher
relative to this message...I simply went to SeaMonkey and
downloaded my messages (wanted and unwanted) from my SeaMonkey
application.  The message that had an attachment was not in my
download.

This loss of messages, ones having attachments, has been going
on for some time.  I have gone through MailWasher from one end
to the other searching for a reason for these deletions.  I sent
a message to AOL and they have not responded.

This problem started about the same time that I installed
SeaMonkey version 2.49.3...about the time that I upgraded
MailWasher from Free to Pro...and about the time that my Windows
10 software was updated with a major upgrade.

I'm looking for help with finding a solution for this problem.

Thanks in advance for any help sent my way.

Frog

  Additional Information

I continued my search today for the reason why wanted messages
with attachments were not arriving in my SeaMonkey mail.
Interestingly, I found some of these messages were sent to my
never used AOL browser as trash.  This information indicates to me
that my virus scan software is not deleting these messages...that
software at AOL is not deleting these messages...and now I believe
my lost message problem is located either in SeaMonkey or
  MailWasher.

I continue to need help with this problem.

I guess years of using the Mozilla Browser, and then SeaMonkey

Just wanted to let the group know that I found myself totally
unable to complete a customs form on the USPS website on
Monday.  I wound up having to physically fill one out at the
local post office to get my package sent.

This is impacting more that SeaMonkey, I was unable to do so
with the CURRENT FireFox and Google Chrome either here on my
linux mint 18.3 x64 system!  I can only assume that their
snooping is not happy with linux browsers.

I assume that at some point I could spoof a user agent string
that will make USPS happy, but this is getting ridiculous when
current releases of major browsers are not being supported
simply because they are linux releases.

Dave

For what it's worth, my UA string for USPS is spoofed as

  Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:59.0) Gecko/20100101
  Firefox/59.0

and when the same (red) message appears I click on "Read more" and
it tells me I am virtuous and everything is ducky. No functional
problems, but I haven't tried to do much on USPS lately.

Logged into my account using the string:

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 SeaMonkey/2.49.4

On the line that says they are not going to support out of
date browsers, I clicked on the "read more" line and got:

Good news — your browser is
up to date.

You can continue to access all USPS.com
features with your current browser version.

Thank you for using USPS.com!

So it looks like
  they DO support SeaMonkey.

To add to what Paul indicated.

Some of us have, "mailnews.headers.showUserAgent" set to "true"
so we

see your user agent in the message header.

which makes me wonder ... as the latest SM available from
http://www.seamonkey-project.org/ is V 2.46, is Mr Ed really using
  a V 2.48 or is he using a V 2.48b1 or similar??

Whatever 'UserAgent' says.  I haven't
changed it except to 'not advertise FF' option.

2017-02-03 Thread Mr. Ed
Just wondering why the majority of the posts do not mention, in the Subject, The
OS and SM version together.
While it's true that some (many?) bugs will have an effect on more than one OS
or SM version we would not have to look at message headers to determine what
could be a simple entry in the Subject field.

Just wondering...

That also happens in SM 2.47 (64 bit). Build identifier: 20161201025712

I still see it here on 2.38b Build identifier: 20150904215228. The cache2

Removal of cache2 directory (and sub-directories)is easy, but they are

Well, of all the add-ons I've installed there is only one that I would really
like to see added to SM and that is the 'Reply to ALL as CC".

The others are probably used by a small percentage of SM users and as such do
not need to be included in the software package. I go with KISS and if I need
something once in a while, I'll either work around, find an addon or extension,
or maybe even do some coding for myself.
