Oh yes, disabling add-ons does not solve the problem. I have been struggling with this issue for nearly a month. 1. It is only a problem on my XP SP3 machines which also have less memory and slower cpu. I have no problem on newer, faster machines running Win 7. 2. This goes on forever on the XP machines but stops almost immediately on Win 7. On the XP machine, Task Manager shows SM using 90-95 % of the CPU so everything grinds to a very slow pace. 3. I have limited success using IE Tab which lets your browser emulate the IE browser. This is an improvement but still not anywhere near as good as using IE or Google Chrome directly. 4. I have tried using a brand new Test profile using the SM defaults, disabled all add-ons, starting in Safe mode. Nothing helps on my XP computers. I think Personas use the default theme's buttons...they used to do that...but I don't know what theme the buttons belong to today. I haven't used a theme since Personas were first introduced for Fx and Sm. I have several Personas for each browser and I change them frequently. I think any problems are due to the buttons used not any Persona. Plus, I know persona was dropped but calling Personas themes now and calling what used to be themes complete themes now is confusing and convoluted. So, I think what you want to know is what, if any, complete theme is being used by SeaMonkey users not what persona or theme (as they are now called) is being used. LOL... I am really confused now, so all I can say is I'm using what is known to me as a Persona, and it's one of the reasons I am lagging on SM updates. I don't want to lose it. :) Haven't had a problem with the spell window if that matters. bj Well, I'm really sad today, I decided to add Walnut 2 to my choices of themes, and it worked fine except it doesn't allow me to see the address/subject lines in the compose e-mail window. I still like the no white backgrounds style of Walnut though. I see the address/subject lines in the compose window using the Walnut 2 theme. Anyway, I clicked to enable my Hearts persona and answer my mail, and it is not the persona that I had. It now has just a black border. Is the old style gone, where can I determine if it is still available, or is there just something wrong with my version of SM? Newsgroups are more similar to email, but work differently in that the messages there are for everybody, not just one entity. That means that the messages there cannot be deleted by one person (but email messages, of course, can be). You should at least be on that version if you're not already. - Thee Chicago Wolf [MVP] There are a few serious bugs regarding e-mail that prevent me from using that. Until the IMAP stuff is fixed I can't update. I had to do this somewhere around 2.16 too when there was a string of issues that was not fixed for a few versions. Jumping a few versions at a time has been less painful then getting the bugs along the way. Honestly I'm very close to switching to FF/TB the number of bugs, lack of enough SM team folks and lack of features and support for SM is making me rethink this decision. I already switched to TB for personal e-mail and thinking for work it may be time. I could use the fast search in TB that SM seems they will never bring over for one. I just don't like the TB UI. Yes, I agree it's a better move. While SM is nice to basically have Firefox/Thunderbird under the hood as one app, it's getting to the point that even I think it needs to be killed off and just have separate apps for the functions. Email clients are becoming a dying breed but for many old-school people like me who want to port or backup all our email dating from well over a decade ago, it's nice. I think it makes sense to kill SM to focus all resources on Firefox and Thunderbird as separate things even though I use SM as my *primary* browser and have done so for eons. I must disagree about killing SeaMonkey. I consider SeaMonkey's user interface to be far superior to Firefox's. Furthermore, SeaMonkey retains much of the user tailoring that has been removed from Firefox. For example, I maintain four different profiles on SeaMonkey; for Firefox, the Profile Manager is about to be removed or already was removed. That the profile manager is about to be removed or already has been is wrong. Development on the stand alone profile manager has stopped and bug 214675 is no longer being worked on. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=214675#c98 Since the discussion lately is to terminate xulrunner, which the stand alone profile manager is based on, I would say the project is dead. I use it for all my Firefox and Thunderbird profiles, but could probably get used to the built-in PM if necessary. Does it require a restart? After setting the pref you need to restart, yes. If after that nothing has changed, we've at least ruled out the XUL cache as a potential reason for why the userChrome.css changes have no effect for you (at least in certain areas). Well, as I said elsewhere in this thread, I've restarted any number of times since the userchrome.css fix and only the mail/news listing is fixed. Data Manager, about:config, etc. are still spaced out. Now I cannot tell what's causing your particular issue, but I am sure that the proposed CSS fix works. It's even been checked in on trunk, so (very) recent nightly builds already have the fix applied. You could either try those (with a test profile, for confirmation purposes), or create a new profile with your current SM version, apply the proposed fix (from the release notes) there manually (create userChrome.css etc. - include only that CSS, nothing else) and check whether that works for you. If it does, maybe one of your add-ons, preferences or other customizations affect what you see. My userchrome.css contains only the fix since it was created for that purpose. Can I assume the filename is not case-sensitive? Will try disabling/restoring add-ons and see where that takes me. The filename is case sensitive and should be userChrome.css. What is g contacts ? This thing ? - http://sourceforge.net/projects/gocontactsync/ My Signature Ray, no this thing http://www.pirules.org/addons/gcontactsync/index.php On http://www.pirules.org/addons/index.php we can read: Below is a list of the extensions I have written. See the Blog link above for news and the Forum Wiki links for support gContactSync - Synchronizes contacts from Google with address books in Thunderbird. So he must be able to tell you how to delete an account from g contacts sink. AND on the page http://www.pirules.org/index.php we can read: If you have a question, bug report, or request for one of my add-ons please use this forum. Therefore the best thing you can do, is asking your question here: http://www.pirules.org/forum/ And inside this page we read: HELP: If you need help using gContactSync or have any questions ask here So the final place and best place to get help is at: http://pirules.org/forum/index.php?board=3.0 Don't forget to login first. Exactly where I directed him yesterday morning after doing some research, with no response back from the OP. You will probably have better luck there as your problem seems to be with the extension and not SeaMonkey. I don't think it is an extension. Many people in here are IT people or technically minded. Not all of us are. I think that can result in those who aren't techies trying to use geek speak and confusing the heck out of the techies, or just not fully understanding the terminology. It's the same with explanations: some here are better than others. From reading this group/list, a lot (?most) of those using SeaMonkey here use extensions, um, extensively. I don't use them, at least not knowingly. Most things I want to do, I can achieve without deliberately using an extension. Well the OP is asking about g contacts and their sink, so I was thinking it was this extension, which has its own support forum. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/gcontactsync/ Supported applications: Thunderbird 2 and up (including 3.x through 24.0) Seamonkey 2 and up Icedove (Debian-branded Thunderbird) Postbox 1.0 - 2.1 Maybe they didn't read the AMO page, and just blindly went where no other user has gone before. [quote] When first setting up gContactSync 0.3 you should use a new address book. If you try to sync an address book with gContactSync that you already synchronized with a different add-on then you could get duplicates. 0.4 will merge contacts first. Maybe, if rather than writing cryptic messages such as is their any way to delete an account from g contacts sink, users could be encouraged/educated/whatever to write along the lines of : Hi. I downloaded the 'g contacts' program from URL, and I am trying to use it to synchronise my Gmail contacts with my Seamonkey address book, but there is one particular contact that I don't want to synchronise and I can find no way of deleting this one entry. Are there any 'g contacts' users who might be able to help me ? then we might all benefit. The person with the problem will almost certainly receive useful advice, and the rest of us will be saved from having to try to guess to what utility he/she is referring, and also be saved from having to guess what he/she is really trying to accomplish. Philip Taylor Agreed, and responders like me should pay better attention to the posters UA. Just noticed Bryan is posting with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; rv:24.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/24.1.0 in a SeaMonkey support group. I suspect Windows NT 6.3 is Win 8.1.
