It is difficult to read email when the present email being read losses
it highlighting when the lower email window pane is clicked. It makes
hard to know which email is the next to be read.

The issue appears to be a focus issue. When the upper email window

Is there a solution to keep the highlighting from being lost when

Oh yes, disabling add-ons does not solve the problem.

I have been struggling with this issue for nearly a month.

1. It is only a problem on my XP SP3 machines which also have less
memory and slower cpu. I have no problem on newer, faster machines
running Win 7.

2. On Facebook, the problem does not exist if I am on my Timeline. I
only see it on the Newsfeed when the bottom of the screen shows
continually loading data from somewhere like akamailhd.net (sp?). This
goes on forever on the XP machines but stops almost immediately on Win
7. On the XP machine, Task Manager shows SM using 90-95 % of the CPU so
everything grinds to a very slow pace.

3. I have limited success using IE Tab which lets your browser emulate
the IE browser. This is an improvement but still not anywhere near as
good as using IE or Google Chrome directly.

4. I have tried using a brand new Test profile using the SM defaults,
disabled all add-ons, starting in Safe mode. Nothing helps on my XP
computers. As I said earlier, there is no problem on my Win 7 machines.

I just tried using IE for FaceBook as well as a few other things like
Live Journal and Huffington News and they all start right up in IE. This
suggests a problem with SeaMonkey, doesn't it?

Build identifier: 20130919003001

This build works very well, but it has also been static since September 19. I
also notice that Aurora builds for all platforms ceased updates after October
28. Are there build issues, lack of resources, or what? I am not a Seamonkey
developer but I've been testing Mozilla builds of Seamonkey and Firefox for
quite some time now. The Firefox Nightly Builds continue to be available for
my hardware, just not the Seamonkey builds.

Any particular reason for this? While I use both browsers, I do still tend to
favor Seamonkey; for my specific interests and needs it works particularly
well, so I'm concerned about its current and future support. I'd appreciate an
update, thanks!

Brian Masinick

Well, we were able to get nightly builds for the Linux platforms for a while,
but they stopped building after 02/14/2014 for both the i686 and x86_64
architectures. There does not seem to be this problem with the Firefox Nightly
Builds.

Is there an issue with building that might be resolved by collaborating with
the Linux Firefox Nightly Build team (or is there very little in common between
the two groups)?

I use both Firefox Nightly and Seamonkey Nightly, but it's Seamonkey that I'm
most interested in getting the nightly builds, yet it's Seamonkey that seems
most limited in the resources to keep consistent builds.

I wish I could help with the builds; I can't, but I can certainly help with the
testing and reporting.

Does anyone know what's preventing the Linux Seamonkey Nightly Builds from
taking place? (Windows seems to get built nearly on a daily basis; the Mac
platform has occasional issues, but both Linux platforms seem to have fairly
consistent build issues). Is a resolution forthcoming?

IF it is not a known issue, then I apologize for not raising it much sooner; I
don't want to constantly complain, but I really would like to have regular
Seamonkey Nightly builds for Linux.

What is the cause for the lack of builds, and what are the plans to resolve it?

Thanks!

This bug is 9 years old, it has not been fixed up to now and
lets face it, it won't ever gets fixed because
nobody wants to work on it or
maybe the Thunderbird developers are happy with the fact that
Thunderbird is an inferior news client.
So why don't we just close this bug. Pretty much all people seriously
using Usenet have most likely
stopped using TB years ago (just like I did) because it's pointless.
I suggest setting status to resolved = won't fix.

Well, since Thunderbird is being developed by the community now and that
is a bug for MailNews Core used by both Thunderbird and SeaMonkey, maybe
someone knows a developer that would like to join the community and work
on it.

OK, so let's be realistic: 1% of users read the release notes
for every application they install or update; 99% of users do not
read the release notes for every application they install or update
(and even those statistics are highly optimistic -- maybe closer to
0.001% and 99.999% respectively).

So how come the 99(.999%) who do not bother to read the release notes

So, it would be interesting to get some sense as to what percentage of

Is it time for your medication or mine?

I use a Persona. I think Personas use the default theme's
buttons...they used to do that...but I don't know what theme the
buttons belong to today. I haven't used a theme since Personas were
first introduced for Fx and Sm. I have several Personas for each
browser and I change them frequently.

I think any problems are due to the buttons used not any Persona.
Plus, I know persona was dropped but calling Personas themes now
and calling what used to be themes complete themes now is confusing
and convoluted.

So, I think what you want to know is what, if any, complete theme is
being used by SeaMonkey users not what persona or theme (as they are
now called) is being used.

LOL... I am really confused now, so all I can say is I'm using what is
known to me as a Persona, and it's one of the reasons I am lagging
on SM updates. I don't want to lose it. :) Haven't had a problem
with the spell window if that matters.

Anyway, I clicked to enable my Hearts persona and answer my mail, and it
is not the persona that I had. It now has just a black border. Is the
old style gone, where can I determine if it is still available, or is
there just something wrong with my version of SM? [I am using 2.17.l

However, when I boot up using Internet Explorer, the pop up does not load.

A search of the net, shows many people want to stop this pop up from

So, my question to you is:If the latest version of Internet Explorer can

Who is your internet provider? They may provide
newsgroups. Check with them and see. Most of
them do not provide binary newsgroups (the ones
that contain pictures, music, etc.) but some
still provide regular text newsgroups. If your
provider DOES have newsgroups their site should
have instructions on how to set up to use them.

If your provider does not have newsgroups, then
you need to subscribe to a website that does. I
use giganews.com It costs 4.99 per month to
subscribe and they have given good service. Some
are free. Do a search for newsgroups (without
the quotation marks). Once you get signed up to
one, they should provide instructions on how to
use them, or some of us may be able to help.

Thanks so much guys ! I will follow thru.

BTW - what IS a Newsgroup that it can function via the MAIL part of a
browser - some special or different thing that a web site ?

DB

Newsgroups, websites, and email are all different things. Newsgroups
are more similar to email, but work differently in that the messages
there are for everybody, not just one entity. That means that the
messages there cannot be deleted by one person (but email messages, of
course, can be).

As far as getting access to more newsgroups goes, you can add more
newsgroup server addresses as accounts. For instance, if you wanted
access to Microsoft newsgroups, add news.microsoft.com as a new
newsgroup account.

First you have to subscribe to a Usenet server. Then you should be able

One free news server I have seen mentioned here is Eternal September.
There are others free and fee.

Walt, did you notice DocBill typed other Newsgroups HERE, which, to
me, suggests he want groups Here on the news.mozilla.org server, in
which case I would suggest he select the server name containing this
group and then select Manage newsgroup subscriptions, wait for the

If he's after groups on a UseNet server, the process is the same, just
select the UseNet account server.

I did see other Newsgroups HERE and interpreted it to mean in
SeaMonkey. I don't think he will find a replacement for Windows XP
Annoyances which is now defunct on the Mozilla server.

He may even have Newsgroups confused with forums. A search of Usenet

Non-geeks, by definition, don't need to sort version numbers, and the
age-old conventions of version numbering aren't about to change to
accommodate the limitations of spreadsheet programs. I expect
someone's written a macro or something that will enable more
sophisticating sorting than Excel has built-in.

None of this has to do with SeaMonkey support, so I'll crosspost and

Ok, i don't need to sort version numbers, i just go to this SM page
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/seamonkey/releases/
to find the latest SM version, and i see 2.9.1 GREATER than 2.24.
The 2.9.1 is the latest uptodate SM release :-) :-)

Then why is 2.9.1 dated 30-Apr-2012 and 2.24 dated 03-Feb-2014 at

Simple. Click the account name, View settings for this account. The

I was told that all the bugs that concern me would be fixed by 2.24 so I
was going to do it, now I'm concerned and think I better skip to 2.25.
To many issues the last few releases to risk it.

2.23 has been really good for me. Snappy and fast. You should at least
be on that version if you're not already.

- Thee Chicago Wolf [MVP]

There are a few serious bugs regarding e-mail that prevent me from using
that. Until the IMAP stuff is fixed I can't update.
I had to do this somewhere around 2.16 too when there was a string of
issues that was not fixed for a few versions. Jumping a few versions at
a time has been less painful then getting the bugs along the way.

Honestly I'm very close to switching to FF/TB the number of bugs, lack
of enough SM team folks and lack of features and support for SM is
making me rethink this decision. I already switched to TB for personal
e-mail and thinking for work it may be time. I could use the fast
search in TB that SM seems they will never bring over for one. I just
don't like the TB UI.

Yes, I agree it's a better move. While SM is nice to basically have
Firefox/Thunderbird under the hood as one app, it's getting to the
point that even I think it needs to be killed off and just have
separate apps for the functions. Email clients are becoming a dying
breed but for many old-school people like me who want to port or
backup all our email dating from well over a decade ago, it's nice. I
think it makes sense to kill SM to focus all resources on Firefox and
Thunderbird as separate things even though I use SM as my *primary*
browser and have done so for eons.

I must disagree about killing SeaMonkey. I consider SeaMonkey's user
interface to be far superior to Firefox's. Furthermore, SeaMonkey
retains much of the user tailoring that has been removed from Firefox.
For example, I maintain four different profiles on SeaMonkey; for
Firefox, the Profile Manager is about to be removed or already was
removed.

That the profile manager is about to be removed or already has been is
wrong.

Development on the stand alone profile manager has stopped and bug
214675 is no longer being worked on.

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=214675#c98

Since the discussion lately is to terminate xulrunner, which the stand
alone profile manager is based on, I would say the project is dead.

I use it for all my Firefox and Thunderbird profiles, but could probably
get used to the built-in PM if necessary.

Flash Player now, so I looked for Adobe Flash in Software Center and
found Adobe Flash plugin installer was already installed. It does say
there that it will work with a range of web-browsers, including
SeaMonkey. It shows a total file size of only 139.3 kB on disk which is
very different to the 19.2MB .so file mentioned above.

In my SM2.23 about:plugins shows No installed plugins found, and
about:addons has no mention of Flash Player on it's Featured dd-ons list.

Adobe's Flashplayer site offers me 3 alternatives to download:

  YUM for Linux (YUM)
.tar.gz for other Linux
.rpm for other Linux

but do I really need to download a seperate version for SM?

How can I make my SM recognise my existing flashplayer?

No you don't need to download a separate version for SeaMonkey.

It probably doesn't show up in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins because you have
the 64-bit version installed, and it is in /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins.

If you installed a 32-bit SeaMonkey you won't see Flash. A 64-bit
version of SeaMonkey should pick it up.

You can create a symbolic link to libflashplayer.so if you find the
location.

There's already a new tab button to the left of the tabs on both the
mail and browser window.

Interestingly, in Browser hovering over the button yields the tooltip
Open a new tab which is what it does. In Mail the tooltip is
Duplicate current tab which is what it does.

And if you open a message in a tab, then select the next message
hovering over the button yields the Duplicate Current tab tooltip, but
opens the new message in a tab.

Sounds like a bug to me.

Rick, I'm a bit thick, so I have to ask are you referring to the
Website Address Book or the E-Mail Address Book.

If the former, then your Website Address Book is stored as part of the
places.sqlite file, and I've got no idea how you can go about moving
it and having SeaMonkey know where it now is.

If the later, then your E-mail Address Book is stored as part of your
profile, and you can find its location by looking at the Local
directory on Server Settings. Your profile, including the E-mail
Address Book (bookmarks.mab, I think) will be in one of the
directories just above the Local directory. Click on the Addressbook
icon in the bottom left of the SeaMonkey screen, then select
Tools-Export to save you Bookmarks file in the location you want,
then, in the Address Book, click Tools-Import and then SeaMonkey will
save any further e-mail addresses added to the mab address book in
this new location.

Is the website address book part of SeaMonkey? At any rate I'm not
familiar with that.

I'm wondering if Email Address Books can live elsewhere. I have been
doing export on one computer and import on another but that becomes a
bit tedious with multiple address books.

What would be cool is to have a common place for all addresses. I that
what the Website Address Book does?

I would think Website Address Book is bookmarks.

In the Criteria are, you can select among several different

you choose Block Number, you get an input window where you can enter
the desired block number.

However, I've recently found that the Building Style and
Municipality options don't work. In the past (at least through
September 2013), selecting Municipality produced a pull-down list
from which the user could select one of 62 municipalities to constrain
the search. Now, nothing happens. For you, too?

I don't have Firefox, so I can't test with it.

I tried the site with Internet Explorer, and it's working normally (if
you use IE 11 you must specify compatibility mode). Try it and see.

The site claims to be HTML 3.2!! If it is, it has 98 HTML errors. I
generally view such error-filled Web pages as not worth diagnosing.

Can anyone tell me whether recent versions of Firefox, which they claim

openSUSE is centered around the RPM package format and its well-regarded

I have used the Modern theme since it was introduced ... uh ... how many
many years ago?

I'm curious because of the cut off spell window thread that's been being
discussed and some contending that it's a problem with the theme, or so
it seems to me in some posts.

So, it would be interesting to get some sense as to what percentage of

Handy maybe, but certainly not required to get started. The first thing
to do once a problem has been verified would be to create a bug. Then
everyone has a place to store and update additional information such as
attachments, analyses, and findings.

Fine, I added it, set it to true. So?

About:config still has one-and-a-half-line spacing.

Data Manager still has one-and-a-half-line spacing.

I don't see what I've gained here. Does it require a restart?

After setting the pref you need to restart, yes. If after that nothing
has changed, we've at least ruled out the XUL cache as a potential
reason for why the userChrome.css changes have no effect for you (at
least in certain areas).

Well, as I said elsewhere in this thread, I've restarted any number of
times since the userchrome.css fix and only the mail/news listing is
fixed. Data Manager, about:config, etc. are still spaced out.

Now I cannot tell what's causing your particular issue, but I am sure
that the proposed CSS fix works. It's even been checked in on trunk, so
(very) recent nightly builds already have the fix applied. You could
either try those (with a test profile, for confirmation purposes), or
create a new profile with your current SM version, apply the proposed
fix (from the release notes) there manually (create userChrome.css etc.
- include only that CSS, nothing else) and check whether that works for
you. If it does, maybe one of your add-ons, preferences or other
customizations affect what you see.

My userchrome.css contains only the fix since it was created for that
purpose. Can I assume the filename is not case-sensitive?

Will try disabling/restoring add-ons and see where that takes me.

The filename is case sensitive and should be userChrome.css.

Also make sure it has the following;

/*
 * Do not remove the @namespace line -- it's required for correct
functioning

 */
@namespace
url(http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul;); /*

Nothing has changed across the Internet.

Don't know about your other haunts, but I see the same behavior with
Yahoo using SM 2.22, and I have a clean profile.

I enter my Yahoo ID, password, check Keep me signed in, and on restart
I have to repeat the process.

Probably because SeaMonkey doesn't ask me if I want to remember the
Username and PW. What is up with that? OK. SM asks me to save PW on
another site.

It keeps me logged in if I navigate to other sites and come back to
Yahoo.

I don't clear any private data when closing SeaMonkey.

Yahoo seems to be the problem. Not SeaMonkey.

As noted elsewhere in this thread, if you allow only session cookies,
then SeaMonkey will wipe them at the end of the session (when you close
SM). That's what session cookies means.

If you want cookies to persist from session to session, you have to
change your cookie prefs:

I did have Accept for current session only selected, as I discovered

incorrectly.

All is well with Accept cookies normally.

Lightning than the 2.6b2 that is no longer working in my version
of SM
2.22... now where to find it is my next mission...

For SeaMonkey 2.22 you need Lightning 2.6.2.

I mean Lightning 2.7b1.

Updated SM and forgot to check Lightning.

yes... but my aging brain is failing me as yet I've found no place with
a newer version than 2.6b2... and I can't recollect what AMO stands
for...

Lightning 2.7.b1 can be found here.

[Lightning :: Versions :: Add-ons for
Thunderbird](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/lightning/versions/?page=1#version-2.7b1)

Also Lightning 2.8b1 for SeaMonkey 2.23b1 and Thunderbird 26.0b1 is now
available.

[Lightning :: Versions :: Add-ons for
Thunderbird](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/lightning/versions/?page=1#version-2.8b1)

must be going blind, it wasn't there when i searched for it yesterday...
nor does it appear when i type lighting into the addons search panel...
which is extremely aggravating...

Using the addons search panel is only going to find the current official
release version for Thunderbird 24.1.0. You have to click the View
other versions link on that page.

This Works with Thunderbird 24.1.0 - 24.1.0-View other versions could
be in a larger font so it is more discoverable.

  --- Original Message ---

Something has been changed in my Seamonkey - I have to
log in each time I visit ALL web sites.

Before this, when I went to my usual web site haunts,
the system remembered and I went in 'Logged In'.
i.e. - stay logged in checked. Now that doesn't work.

I did not change anything in the my Cookies are handled.

Help, please.

Bill

Remove cookies, then re-login to your sites and the info should be
remembered from now on.

If I remove all cookies with the Windows Internet Options tool,
would that be OK ?

OK but ineffectual. The Windows tool only removes cookies stored by
Internet Explorer.

For SeaMonkey cookies, there are two ways:

1) The hard way: open Cookie Manager and for each site listed, delete
them by hand;

2) The easy way (two-step process):

a) Edit | Preferences | Privacy Security | Private Data: make sure
Cookies is checked;

b) From a browser window, Tools | Clear Private Data or Ctrl-Shift-Del.

OMG - I did the Easy Way - went to Edit|Prefs|ps and clicked the
Cookies box. Was not checked before that.
Above that list was a Clear data Now - so I clicked it.
My HD light came on for maybe 60 - 90 seconds !
Then a window came up and said a Script was running, so I chose to stop it.
Then the HD light came back on for another 60 -120 seconds before it
petered out.

My system has a 3 GHz CPU and that was a LONG TIME for it to be doing
something !

Haven't tried SM yetgoing to now.Pray.

OK. Disregard the previous post.

Now that I have changed my Cookie settings from Accept for current
session only to Accept cookies normally, I stay logged into Yahoo.

I also have Allow third-party cookies for previously visited websites
only selected.
