One of the menu options on an about:config entry is Reset.  You will
not

see the entry disappear when you use that option.  In many cases,
however, the entry will disappear when you terminate SeaMonkey.

Unfortunately, you have to reset each entry one at a time.

A better way is to delete the old entries in pref.js.
Do this when SeaMonkey is closed.
Use Notepad or similar editor such as Komodo edit.
Don't use Microsoft's script editor or Word.
If you're uncomfortable do this, make a backup copy.

With 40+ years of experience, first as a programmer and then as a
software tester, I am far more comfortable using programmed capabilities
within a program (e.g., about:config) than tweaking raw data (e.g.,
prefs.js).  Not in this case but in others, tweaking raw data might
bypass necessary housekeeping that would be done though programmed
capabilities.

Hmm! I always thought "about:config" and "prefs.js" were just two
different ways to see, basically, the same information, one with-in the
program, one outside the program.

Am I wrong??

Yes, pref.js is all the non-default preference.

not installed. I downloaded the Firefox Plugin but it won't

I assume your using Windows 7/8/10.
The latest foxit is FoxitReader971_Setup_Prom_IS.exe
What Firefox Plugin did you download.

Rob is using Windows 7 (that is what the "Windows NT 6.1" in the
User-Agent string means).

My news doesn't show user agent strings.

Very strange, yours is
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101
SeaMonkey/2.49.5

(Also Windows 7) and that version of Seamonkey does show the string.
Maybe you have some setting which suppresses the information somehow,
I see it along with the rest of the header-info.

Don, I'm fairly sure that there is somewhere in the Preferences screens
(Edit -> Preferences) or Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings (Edit -> Mail
& Newsgroup Account Settings) but, when I just had a look, I couldn't
find where.

So Rodney might want to type 'about:config' in the browser address bar,
accept the warning, then type 'useragent in the Search: field.

One of the Preferences offered will be "mailnews.headers.showUserAgent".
clicking on the "false" should change it to 'True' and the whole
preference will be in *Bold* to show it has been User Set.

I often wish there were a simple way to just "print the browser window

I often wind up taking an image capture of the browser window and

Pressing the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard doesn't accomplish
that?

The "Print Screen" button is a function of your operating system. You
need to download a screen printer such as Gadwin PrintScreen 5.8

anything beyond 2756. Possible corruption in your downloaded-mails

Normally, when I file a Bookmark, I want to put it in a particular

posted a link to http://info.cern.ch/ with a claim that it was the first
*ever* website, so I thought I'd save the link in my "General"
Sub-Folder of my Bookmarks.

Previously, a sub-screen would open showing my Bookmarks file structure
and I would just select the Sub-Folder that I wanted the new Bookmark
saved to, then click "O.K." and ... job done.

Now, I think, when I click on Bookmarks->File Bookmark, I am taken to a
"New Bookmark" screen, which allows me to add bits and pieces about the
new bookmark, but doesn't allow me to select the particular sub-folder
that I want the Bookmark saved to unless it happens to be one of
the half dozen or so listed on the "Folder:" drop-down of the
sub-screen. Where this list comes from, I don't know ... unless it is a
listing of the sub-folders to which I may have previously filed
bookmarks directly to.

Have I started doing something wrong?? How do I get back to the old
situation where I could file a bookmark to any of the forty or more
sub-folders in my Bookmarks Folder??

(Lately, any bookmarks I save are just being added to the bottom of the
Bookmarks drop-down! :-( )

If you click the button on the "Folder" line that is nearer to the edge
of the dialog box, you should see the whole folder list. SeaMonkey
lately has a bug with that dialog box that prevents it from getting
longer to accommodate that folder list, however, so it required a little
patching to fix it. I did that patching with my userChrome.css file.
In addition to the namespace line, which must be the first code there, I
added:

during the 2.39 Win32 builds as well as the 2.40 builds and

didn't screw things up too much, if at all (here's hoping).

Is there nobody else who has noticed a bug with "File Bookmark" with SM
for Mac? I had to change the vertical size of the dialog box in
userChrome.css to make it long enough to display the list of folders
when one pulls that down, since it will not change size.

The bug is in Windows 7 too.
The vertical size of the dialog box doesn't change.
The list presented under Bookmarks Menu when you click the black

I did some checking of the other versions of SeaMonkey that I use.
The bug is not in 2.39
It is in 2.42 (from

Greetings,

After so long a delay, for which we apologize, the SeaMonkey
Project is pleased to announce the release of SeaMonkey 2.40!

So please check out [1] or [2].

Please note that the website information, while updated for
2.40, still requires a bit more work.

We cannot repeat this enough. Thank you everyone for your
patience with us. This very long delay due to infrastructure
and resource issues has been very trying on a lot of people.

It has been a very tough release. I think it's the
toughest one I've done. However, this isn't to say that
I did this alone. Kudos go to a lot of people, particularly
the guys/gals in Mozilla's IT and RelEng dept.

I particularly want to thank Nick Thomas for his sheer
brilliant idea that helped me unhork the partial mar upload
script as well as pointing out the necessary changes
to migrate off FTP to S3.

Thanks to Jens Hatlak for taking the time to do the Website
patch. (Really, sorry for the delay.)

Also, thanks to Justin Wood for giving me this opportunity
to work out the problems myself. If you all take a look
at bug 1233615, I think I rivaled the mess I did with
the GTK bug (conveniently forgotten the # :P ). The
repo changes I made... oh boy. Only time will heal
the mess^H^H^H^H wounds. ;P

Anyway, most of all, thanks to all the users out there
for hanging on to this project. The words of encouragement
(especially during the broken-hand period) definitely gave
me a boost of energy.

I have seen enough complaints here about Norton Antivirus deciding
Seamonkey updates are malware, but never Bit Defender. Where has she
heard that it is a problem?

Mostly some reviews on "forum.bitdefender.com". (There were a couple of
similar ones, too.) The posts were admittedly somewhat older, and
referred to SM 2.23. The concern was whether that still applied today.
She is looking at Bitdefender or Kaspersky, both of which are highly
rated. (Depends on the reviewer/rater, of course.)

Thank you for your feedback.

Larry S.
I use BitDefender (2015 free edition) on Windows 7 and SeaMonkey 2.38
and haven't had any problems with it.

If you're using [or want to use] Privoxy you should have

RE: Seamonkey CPU Spin

2015-07-21 Thread Rodney Sampson

Miles:
Didn't seem to be an issue till someone introduced Akamai
Netsession to the mix.
I deinstalled it and things went downhill from there and I'm just
reading mail no browser involved.

But that may explain one of the errors that I'm getting
Timestamp: 7/5/2015 3:39:50 PM Error: TypeError: browsers[i] is
undefined Source File: chrome://navigator/content/tabbrowser.xml

Also having browser issues just reading web pages (most will hang)
Is there any fix for this wait issue, I've reduced the Network
connection timeout to 20 secs.

Thanks

And while it's waiting, SeaMonkey seems to freeze ALL it's tabs and
windows.

The PAC file is Proxy Auto Config file, so SeaMonkey shouldn't be
trying to load a PAC file if it's set to directly connect to the
Internet. So try this
 Edit / Preferences / Advanced / Proxies
and select
 Direct connection to the Internet

This is what I've been using, yet the proxy message is still
present...

Maybe SeaMonkey looks for the PAC file even if it isn't going to
use it???

Try enabling automatic proxy config, removing thehttp://sourceforge

What's the best way to rebuild the indexes ?

Right-click on mail folder Properties Repair Folder

Is there a way to move the repair function out to the right click menu ?
How about a function where I could run from command line ?

Would that explain CPU Spin when reading a message ?

Did see where you said that you have compacted folders, if you haven't
the data is still there and must be parsed even thought deleted.

My profile has a long legacy from NN 4.x and I have ~4GB data in my mail

Questions:
Is there any way to log exactly what SM is doing ?
What websites it's downloading from , etc ?

On the average, I have to kill/restart 20 times per day. Getting old
fast...
I have moved subfolders from the inbox sent, trash junk are emptied
multiple times daily.
No pre-defined folders have 300 messages.

Wish there was a rule or add-on that would save the attachment
automatically to a folder.

More suggestions please ?

Can we assume that you've been compacting folders periodically or after
large-scale deletions? Remember, delete, as it does elsewhere in the
computing world, means hide from the user. So a folder that has
undergone multiple deletions will have a lot of hidden content that the
program must purposely disregard, and the index file will be needlessly
complex.

Rodney, when you move messages from the Inbox or Sent folders into
other folder or sub-folders, they are not necessarily moved to the
other folder, but, rather, copied into the new location. To actually get
rid of them from the original location try File-Empty Trash and then
File-Compact Folders.

What's the best way to rebuild the indexes ?
Would that explain CPU Spin when reading a message ?
Thanks

I've trimmed out the conversation history and will attempt to comply
with list wishes...

Synopsis:
All of my SM troubles started when from cold boot, I was requested a
firewall exception from
Akamai Netsession, deinstalled. From that point on, I've been starting
SM in safe mode with

 the error console running.
Today, I was navigating to the new O'Rilley email (in preview mode) and
it started taking 16% CPU.
I have to abort SM with Process Explorer , nothing else is taking 1%
except System Idle Time.
I have changed the following in SM, hardare acceleration, and connection
timeout from 100 to 50.

Mail Browser have similar issues.

Last things I've seen in the error console is the following:

Timestamp: 6/26/2015 4:22:54 PM
Error: TypeError: browsers[i] is undefined
Source File: chrome://navigator/content/tabbrowser.xml
Line: 331

Timestamp: 6/26/2015 4:47:10 PM
Error: document.getElementById(...).SelectLocale is not a function
Source File: chrome://global/content/bindings/preferences.xml
line 423 Function
Line: 1

Looks like an array indexing issue...

Starting SM in Safe Mode add-ons are disabled, cache , cookies offline
are cleared before start.

Seamonkey unresponsive

2015-06-09 Thread Rodney Sampson

All:
  Unusual occurrence.
from cold startup, with no known changes/installs since last night
when I shutdown
Windows firewall has new exception to allow... Akamai Netsession
wants access to

my machine, disallowed, brought up SM, read a couple of emails then it
goes to CPU hang. FYI: Preview pane is open, example email is from
Tiger Direct

(their daily adv).
Deinstalled Akamai booted tried again, same thing...
I have Sysinternals Process Explorer running on startup. killed SM.
Sometimes you can watch the CPU max out or SM just freezes,
everything else is

   still working fine, even Chrome.
If I start a browser window, it starts the CPU or unresponsive bit.
Noticed that event viewer had errors for Nvidia driver, updated,
booted, same results.

No change with safe mode either.
Even with just bookmarks manager open , attempting backup, same thing...
  Any ideas ?
Only major change: Virus Scan: Total Defense to Kepersky to Bit
Defender (remove/install)

 NVIDIA: Updated drivers
 Removed: Akamai software

Thanks for all the replies. I was using Mavericks. Just loaded the

I have informed my Acrobat Reader program that i prefer that Acrobat
Reader open this file instead of the browser. I think its better that
Acrobat Reader open this file, because PDF was a proprietary format

who publish Acrobat Reader.
I use Foxit Reader. When it installs it asks whether or not you want to

Perhaps a silly question, but... why would you want to? The whole

otherwise, why not just use Thunderbird or some other non-integrated

Second. This is my primary way of isolating whether a site has a

...it's also how I isolate OS interface bugs in SM - which there are
still a few in the the SM OS X version.

Have a copy of that browser open. Copy the link in SeaMonkey. Then
paste that link in the other browser. I've done this when a webpage
would not display properly in SeaMonkey. For example, some of the
Microsoft pages will only display in Internet Explorer.

Not familiar with Facebook games but I suspect a font size in the
browser making the text of the game data larger than able to be shown
without scrolling. Try hitting CTRL+0 (zero). If that doesn't fix it
try hitting CTRL+- (minus) a couple of times.

I know about the CTRL plus/minus and it will change the fonts of the
text, but not the graphics of the games. The graphics boxes have
expanded so that about 1/3 is outside of the screen thus requiring
scroll to view the entire graphic. I will do a google search and maybe
find a forum that can help.

I have gone back and reinstalled SM 2.17.1 and the problem is not in
