Turstedparts challenge start button does not show up for me in my browser (was: help with site)

Hi,

NOT reproducible with installation of unofficial (by wg9s) De SeaMonkey
2.53.8 beta 1 pre Mozilla/5.0 (NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:60.0)
Gecko/20100101 Firefox/60.0 Build 20210227220003 (Newly created User
Profile, Default Classic Theme) on German WIN7 64bit

General hint: If a web page does not work for you with your SM Browser
you always should try it with a newly created user profile.

If it does work now it's something with you settings.
If not it's something with your preferences or a SM bug or bad browser
sniffing or something else. It saves much time and work if you always do
that test for such problems before you post here.

And please keep in mind that this mailing list is some kind of Knowledge
Base. If everybody uses Summary "please help" it will become difficult
to find postings related to a particular problem. So please (everybody)
contribute a MEANINGFUL summary.

What's your test result with newly created user profile?

CU

Rainer

Hawker, some time ago, I was trying to buy stuff from amazon.ca but,
when I wanted to Check-out, there was no icon to click on because
amazon.ca got its Check-out Icon from amazon.con and I had set,
somewhere in SeaMonkey prefs, to only display stuff received from the
original site.

Check out Edit -> Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Images -> Image

You might think that the site is completely broken. It loads endless
JavaScript from different domains and displays JS errors in the browser
console.

Obviously masquerading as FF won't help, as even FF doesn't work.

However starting from https://www.trustedparts.com and pasting MMBF5457
into the search field successfully returns the page for the quoted URL.
The endless JS domains mentioned are associated with the captcha
challenge; only www.trustedparts.com and two other subdomains (dd, cdn)
of trustedparts.com have to be enabled for JS to get a usable search
result page.

I guess the site throws a tantrum if you don't give it the right site
cookies or the right Referer [sic].

Try changing your UA String from:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:60.0) Gecko/20100101

Alas that didn't work.

Is JavaScript, cookies etc enabled?
Are any ad blockers disabled?
YMMV

O.K., just looking a bit further, how about ...

Edit -> Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Cookies.

Might you have selected "Allow cookies for the originating website only
(no third-party cookies)" or "Block cookies" rather than either of the
other two??

And in the same tests, "Allow cookies for the originating website ..."
and "Accept for current session" were set.

I don't think cookies are the problem. Nor is it likely that
i.ebayimg.com is being blocked by Mozilla's attack/phishing blocklists.

As previously suggested, OP needs to test with a new profile, for which
instructions ought to be all over the Web but this
 is the best SM-oriented page

Agreed. My own overrides are like you mentioned.
What I was thinking was to have the OP make various changes to see if

A while ago, I was trying to buy something from amazon.ca (sure that was
in the browser screen rather than in an e-mail, but ..!!) but
couldn't get to the checkout because there was no Cash-register
icon-thingee, 'cause I had set my SeaMonkey set to not display images
from "third-party" web-sites and amazon.ca used the "check-out" icon
from amazon.com, i.e. a "third-party" web-site.

I agree with Dirk.
Could an anti-virus shield be blocking the images?
Try turning them off for testing if you use them.

Whatever's happening isn't an eBay problem, as I tested the procedure
that I posted earlier using a similar email from eBay. Fortunately the
sort of JS snafu that occurs with web pages isn't involved in email
display and so UA spoofing was always a long shot.

As you can see from the message source i.ebayimg.com is the image host
for the missing item pictures, such as the lens hood/gegenlichtblende in
your example.

I really think that there is some issue with your display permissions.
If it can't be fixed by manipulating the UI as I described, some obscure
about:config setting may be the problem. If so, or perhaps anyway, you
need to test this with a clean profile.

This is your current UA string:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:60.0)
Gecko/20100101 SeaMonkey/2.53.6

I suggest changing your UA until you find one that works.
Try:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:80.0)
Gecko/20100101 Firefox/88.0

Note that that make break other sites, so you can make it specific
to ebay if you want to:
general.useragent.override.www.ebay.com
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:60.0)
Gecko/20100101 Firefox/66.0 SeaMonkey/2.53.2

Etc.

You probably have 'Block images and other content from remote sources'set in
Preferences>Mail & Newsgroups>Message Display.

When this setting blocks content in HTML mail, you should see a warning ribbon 'To protect your privacy ...' above the message headers containing an 'Options' button. In the options that the button offers, select to 'Allow remote content from
https://i.ebayimg.com'.

If you don't see this, or just to verify the setting, open Tools>Data Manager and select 'Permissions only' in the pull-down at the top left. You should see an entry for Domain 'ebayimg.com' in the domain list; if you select this, it should show
'https://i.ebayimg.com Load Images' with Allow selected and 'Use Default' unchecked. Set these values if not (eg, you may have Block selected).

You can add this permission manually if necessary. Open Tools>Data Manager, select the Permissions tab, Add at the bottom, then enter 'https://i.ebayimg.com' (without the quotes) in the field 'Enter a host name', bottom right, with type 'Load Images'
and 'Add'; then uncheck 'Use Default' under the line that appears and select 'Allow' (even though it's already selected). ebayimg.com should bein the Domain list on the left.

Your UI may vary depending on language and any installed theme.

Close SeaMonkey and move them all out of the profile folder.

Copy cert9.db and key4.db from your Firefox profile and you should be good.
If 2.49 profile copy cert8.db and key3.db but they need to have no master

I've been using the user-agent switching feature of the PrefBar
extension for years, as there are several sites I visit regularly which
no longer play well with SeaMonkey.

I know PrefBar hasn't been updated in several years, but it continued to
work fine up through SeaMonkey v2.49.5.

Yesterday, I cautiously updated SeaMonkey on one of my computers to
v2.53.5.1. PrefBar continued to work. However, today I upgraded a second
computer to v2.53.5.1 and the PrefBar buttons have now disappeared.
Clicking on "Customize" on the PrefBar gives the usual pop-up listing
"available items" and "enabled items" but the lists are empty. I am
unable to find where the PrefBar settings are stored.

Both of these computers are running Windows 10 Pro v20H2, and I was
careful to follow the instructions at

https://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/seamonkey2.53.5.1/
for upgrading from v2.49.5.

Searching for alternate add-ons to edit the user-agent string finds
several, but all of them say they are only for Firefox, not SeaMonkey. I
found additional add-ons for SeaMonkey at https://addons.thunderbird.net
but that page hasn't been updated for any version of SeaMonkey beyond
2.49.5.

I would like to continue to use SeaMonkey, but this problem may force me
to switch to Firefox and start using Thunderbird for email and news.

Thanks in advance for any forthcoming assistance!

I have now updated all four of my computers from SeaMonkey v2.49.5 to
v2.53.5.1. The update only damaged the PrefBar extension on one of them,
and I was able to get it working again by re-installing it. I can't
guarantee all of its functions still work, but the user-agent changer
works perfectly on all four machines.

The extension can still be downloaded from here:
http://prefbar.tuxfamily.org/archive.html

Thanks for the other suggestions. I have made note of those locations
for future reference.

You can (should) install version 2.0.3 of the Classic Add-ons-Archive
.

The User Agent Switcher needs converting only because the source

sets the SM maximum version to 2.0.*, instead of 2.*.

Then download a set of user agent definitions according to the

If you need an up-to-date Firefox definition, add this for Firefox ESR,

User-agent switching help needed

2020-12-10 Thread notme

So you see the "A lot of help, for less" heading and the front and back
pictures of the phone sliding away from each other as you scroll down?

Then you come to "A Google phone packed with the things you want"
heading, with 4 columns under that with links explaining features.

Keep scrolling and you come to the Verizon offer.

Keep scrolling you get the "Jaw-dropping photos. Near, far or galaxies
away heading".

Keep scrolling and you get pictures that change and enlarge as you scroll.

Keep scrolling for a whole lot more until you get to the pic with "Your
Pixel 4a comes with 3 months of Google One" heading.

Glad you SeaMonkey is working. Mine isn't.

I saw all of that using Firefox Nightly 82.0a1.

The funny thing about that link is that Slimjet did not work but Vivaldi
did. Both are chromium browsers, both use the Blink rendering engine,

Google has its own way of how they want to do things.

For simple interaction, I've found that even the search bar at
google.com has a display quirk. However, if set the User Agent to
show *only* Firefox, the quirk goes away.  Thus, in about:config, I
have added an entry:

 general.useragent.override.google.com    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT
10.0; Win64; x64; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/68.0

I can't speak for Internet Explorer, but with Mozilla-derived
browsers, it seems that Google doesn't handle things well if the UA
string shows both "Firefox" and the name of the true browser. I've
tested with both Seamonkey and PaleMoon, and I presume the same
applies to Waterfox, as well.  If you show *just* Firefox, then that
problem goes away.

You could probably get the same effect if you spoof a Chromium
browser, whether Chrome proper, or a Chromium derivative, such as
the new Edge, Opera, etc.

On the other hand, I've seen developer notes that indicate that
where Google is going with YouTube, there's beginning to appear some
things that work properly only in Chromium browsers, and even some
stuff that may not work as well in Firefox, especially versions
older than 78.x ESR.

Although you don't' have to abandon Seamonkey, you may want to get
used to the idea that you don't necessarily use Seamonkey for
everything (remember, there's nothing that requires you to commit to
exclusive use of a single browser), and be prepared to use something
other than Seamonkey to interact with certain sites.

In my 2.53.3 with no extensions I get a page with some Google Store menu

The rest is blank unless I scroll way down, then I see the same.

In Firefox there is a lot more animated imaging and information between
the two sections. Mostly about how great the phone is for taking pictures.

Something SeaMonkey and the other non working browser must not support.

IMHO they should stop marketing these things as phones and start
marketing them as cameras with phone capabilities. All I ever see in ads

I should have qualified by noting that the problem goes away at
www.google.com. I haven't dug far enough into Google's other sites to
know just how widely that will work.

Google is heavy on scripting use, and beyond what can be done with the
User Agent, there may be other things that don't work as intended, where
Google is trying to make use of things that don't exist in Seamonkey. I
alluded to that in my note about YouTube, but it's entirely possible
that similar issues may turn up at somewhere like store.google.com.

My suggestion works for some parts of Google, but it's entirely possible
that it doesn't work for everything at Google.

It didn't work in my 64-bit SeaMonkey v2.53.3 (even tried a couple

Google has its own way of how they want to do things.

For simple interaction, I've found that even the search bar at
google.com has a display quirk. However, if set the User Agent to show
*only* Firefox, the quirk goes away.  Thus, in about:config, I have
added an entry:

 general.useragent.override.google.com    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT
10.0; Win64; x64; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/68.0

I can't speak for Internet Explorer, but with Mozilla-derived
browsers, it seems that Google doesn't handle things well if the UA
string shows both "Firefox" and the name of the true browser. I've
tested with both Seamonkey and PaleMoon, and I presume the same
applies to Waterfox, as well.  If you show *just* Firefox, then that
problem goes away.

You could probably get the same effect if you spoof a Chromium
browser, whether Chrome proper, or a Chromium derivative, such as the
new Edge, Opera, etc.

On the other hand, I've seen developer notes that indicate that where
Google is going with YouTube, there's beginning to appear some things
that work properly only in Chromium browsers, and even some stuff that
may not work as well in Firefox, especially versions older than 78.x ESR.

You said: "If you show *just* Firefox, then that problem goes away. "

I have: user_pref("general.useragent.override.google.com", "Mozilla/5.0

And the https://store.google.com/us/product/pixel_4a

That page works with Vivaldi, but not with Slimjet. Interesting, since
they are both chromium browsers with the Blink rendering engine, and
both identify themselves as Chrome. It works with Safari, which does

SeaMonkey does not currently support the WebExtensions add-on api.
Some popular add-ons like NoScript and uBlock Origin are no longer
shown because of this on the SeaMonkey add-ons website. You can
usually get them from the manufacturers site. WebExtensions support is
a planned feature for 2.57.

Honestly I moved mail to Thunderbird maybe 3-4 years ago. I kept having

No. NSS is no longer backwoard compatible. We need to soon put a hard block

- What is approximately the release date of the 2.57 version ?

At least a year or two away with the current resources.

We either keep up with 2.53 or do 2.57 full time. The later is not an option.

I'm not sure I understand this. Given the lack of resources wouldn't it make
the most sense to get 2.53.x to some point "good enough" as quickly as you
can, maybe once 2.53.2 drops then let it go and move on to 2.57? I realize
that could leave 2.53 in bad shape, but we had that with 2.49 and it would be
really nice to get SM to a more current engine with less website compatibility
issues. The more y'all delay working on newer versions the more behind SM gets
and the more folks move to a new tool.

2.53 is not in good shape. It works supergreat for me but at least the

SeaMonkey is now at 2.74 and still compiles fine but I am not sure I want to
ever tackle fixing it up to this level. Much removed and minor benefit from a
usablility perspective. If it were not for js and css compatibility I say to
the hell with it. Well when we are at 2.57 we need to decide. Given the
current Firefox market share or lack of it Gecko might even come to an end in
the next years. Just my personal opinion btw.

Not sure why you cling to ABP and 2.49.1 (this one is even more obsolete).

Something you might want to try

When I was running AdBlock Plus, I had also done quite a bit of tuning, but
I when I moved to uBlock Origin, I didn't need to do an unreasonable amount
of work.  uBlock can pretty much subscribe to the same lists that ABP does.
Yes, it does take a little bit of time getting to uBlock's different UI, and
it is a little more effort to dig into individual blocking rules.  However,
with uBlock, I find that I spend less time tinkering with the rules than I
did with ABP, and ultimately, that's time I can spend doing what I want to do.

What you might want to do is to create a new profile and install uBlock in
that -- add all the subscriptions you want (and for that matter, any other
extensions you consider to be essential), and see what things look like.
You might find that you get enough blocking immediately, without having to
spend much more time, at least not initially. It's likely that a lot of the
fine-tuning that you want is probably better done as tweaks that are done in
the context of of the moment.

If initial setups of uBlock do enough for you in the second profile, then
that will tell you if you can replace ABP in your primary profile without an
unreasonable amount of work.

Smith

thanx. That is great advise.
I was wondering, rather than a different profile, if I could just have both
installed and disable in the add on manager the one i am not using. this way I

Yes that is possible. I would not advise keeping them both enabled but even
this should work. Don't ask about performance and memory use in this case
(both enabled) :) I liked the old ABP ui more but the new one is not much
different from uBlock thanks to the wonders of web extensions where every
add-on needs to do its own gui.

blocking rules.  However, with uBlock, I find that I spend less time
tinkering with the rules than I did with ABP, and ultimately, that's
time I can spend doing what I want to do.

What you might want to do is to create a new profile and install uBlock
in that -- add all the subscriptions you want (and for that matter, any
other extensions you consider to be essential), and see what things look
like.  You might find that you get enough blocking immediately, without
having to spend much more time, at least not initially. It's likely that
a lot of the fine-tuning that you want is probably better done as tweaks
that are done in the context of of the moment.

If initial setups of uBlock do enough for you in the second profile,
then that will tell you if you can replace ABP in your primary profile
without an unreasonable amount of work.

Smith

thanx. That is great advise.
I was wondering, rather than a different profile, if I could just have
both installed and disable in the add on manager the one i am not using.
this way I can disable ABP, try uBlock and if I don't like it or it
needs more work to make me happy just revert back to disable uBlock and
ABP. This way I get to try it in my real profile, which is probably more
real world anyway.

At least a year or two away with the current resources.

I'm not sure I understand this. Given the lack of resources wouldn't it
make the most sense to get 2.53.x to some point "good enough" as quickly

I realize that could leave 2.53 in bad shape, but we had that with 2.49

website compatibility issues. The more y'all delay working on newer

There is TWO branches, for Seamonkey you have to use the legacy branch.

And why using very old 2.49.1 and not 2.49.5 why have less securities

Thank you for answering, but I think that I must stay with my 2.49.1
until 2.57

Because: (the minimum that I want)
The french dictionary is a web extension
The uBlock origin (replacement of AdBlock-Plus is a web extension

AND in the 2.53.1 release notes I read:

Dictionaries in WebExtension formats do *not* work, even though they
appear to install correctly.

SeaMonkey does not currently support the WebExtensions add-on api. Some
popular add-ons like NoScript and uBlock Origin are no longer shown
because of this on the SeaMonkey add-ons website. You can usually get
them from the manufacturers site. WebExtensions support is a planned
feature for 2.57.

Sorry you don't get it. This is not supported and breaks functionality. It now

because time travel is not supported during code generation they know nothing

The guy said he lost his passwords when going back to 2.49.5. Not because of

Nothing personal but that is what happens when you ignore release notes and
warnings. If in doubt don't upgrade blindly.
Your passwords are still in the profile 2.49.5 is unable to read the new
databases but also does not know about them. Before you go to 2.53.1 again
delete cert8.db and key3.db from your profile. The new ones are cer9.db and
key4.db. Do a full backup before just in case. Hopefully logins.json is still ok.

The problem with Seession Manager is also in the release notes. It needs to
be fixed by the author but can also be fixed up manually by editing a file
inside the xpi archive (which is actually a zip file.

If I migrate to 2.53.1 again, is there any chance to export the password

Looking for some basic help

2019-07-23 Thread Mark Saunders
HI, I’ve been using Dreamweaver with my MacBook Pro and would like to switch to
SeaMonkey.

Dreamweaver has a window that has my entire site hierarchy on my computer so
when I alter an existing page, the program knows exactly where to publish it.
Does Seamonkey have anything like this?

Is there a way in Seamonkey to download my entire site from the web to my
computer to establish my local site from which to alter pages and publish as
described above?

Thanks,
Mark

What are the technical details beyond a simple port configuration for
the corporate server?

The only details I know required for a SMTP configuration are:

Server Name
Port
User Name
Authentication Method
Connection Security

SM will also prompt you for a password the first time you use it, and
any time authentication fails. If it succeeds and you told SM to
remember the password, that's the end of the setup process.

It would be especially helpful if the OP would tell us exactly how he
can tell it "doesn't work" -- exactly what happens at exactly what stage
of the process. Without those critical details, we're just guessing.

Please try also port 465, check whether your corporate SMTP server
requires any authentication different than the one used for receiving

e-mails and confirm the connection security requirements
(None/STARTTLS/SSL-TLS).

My long and consistent experience with SM has been that if the SMTP
server requires a different password, SM will prompt me, and I supply
the password and tell SM to remember it. The program saves POP and SMTP
passwords separately, even if they're identical, so one can be changed
without affecting the other and the presence/accuracy of one has nothing
to do with the presence/accuracy of the other.

Port 587 is for the SMTP submission port, receiving POP ports are 110
and 995 for SSL/TLS. Port 25 should not be used for SMTP on a client,
that is for server to server transport and many ISP's block port 25.

Things to check for your SMTP Outgoing settings and confirm with your IT
dept:

1) Server name: mail.example.com, pop.example.com, pop3.example.com, etc.

2) Port typically should be 587, the submission port with STARTTLS for
security, using 465 with SSL/TLS is deprecated and really discouraged.

3) Username: Some require just the username but others require full with
domain "usern...@example.com"

Confirm the above and see if it works...

For reading mail, you can do it by connecting to your isp POP3 server -
BUT if you want to send, you need to access your isp SMTP server.

You isp must give you all the needed settings.
