I've had this master password issue ever since I downloaded SM2. Others have reported the same issue. Many have found toggling the true / false in 'signonstartup' worked for them but not for me. My workaround was to screen shot all passwords from SM 1.1.18 delete and download SM2 and then set a 'new password'. I'd be very interested if anyone can confirm that you can enter a 'blank' password and if so any consequences. I'm on a MAC with Snow Leopard.
