annoyances.org and zscale.org share an IP address.

The server is working fine.

The annoyances.org site content has been gone all year. It may or may
not be put back up some day.

Can this thread die now?

66.185.22.68 is b8-3.macminivault.com, which probably hosts many sites
including Annoyances.Org and your model train site. This does not
seem to be a Seamonkey-related thread.

As noted in my original post,

Rationale: DNS lookup means that when you ask your browser to access
a website by name, it needs to look up the IP address (12.34.56.789)
and request that. As a time-saving efficiency measure, your computer
stores a list of name/address equivalencies so it doesn't have to
keep looking them up. Sometimes this list can become corrupted or
errors can creep in. By clearing the list, you force the browser to
look them up fresh.

Would it be a "good idea" to do that very often ?

Generally a waste of time, but if your computer cannot find websites
that it should be finding, it's worth a shot, especially since it's
quick and easy and does no harm.

Because you type "ipconfig /flushdns" in the text box accessible by the

Try to put "cmd" in this text box, you will see a window asking you the

Then type ipconfig /flushdns

I never suggested dumping Windows XP. My wife and I are still using it
on our two PCs.

I have too many applications that will not run on any Windows beyond XP
except if I run in XP-mode. Why should I pay for a newer Windows just
to run in XP-mode if I already have XP? And no, I cannot get newer
versions of some of those applications because their developers have
shut down.

I'm having trouble with the immediately disappeared part. When you start the command

When I do it here it displays:

Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.

Followed by the command prompt again. The box doesn't go anywhere until I type 'exit'

When you type dir [ENTER] at the command prompt does it stick around?

For whatever it's worth annoyances.org proclaims its unavailability to me, too.

This shows how little I know - How do I "open a Command Prompt" ?
Where - how ? You have to tell me what that means.
In SeaMonkey's Location Bar ?
Back in the old DOS ?

Holding the Windows key, press "R." This will open a little window
asking you what program to run. Enter "cmd" (without quotation marks),
hit "Enter." This works on lots of versions of Windows, at least as far
back as XP.

ipconfig/flushdns - get error message.

Windows cannot find "ipconfig/flushdns"

Tried - ipconfig.

Window came up and immediately disappeared.

???

Try a space between the 'g' and the '/'.

ipconfig is the command, /flushdns is the flag modifying the command.

I wouldn't know, it looks like it really is down for maintenance and no
conspiracy theories apply.

There is something about clearing your DNS Cache, also. (?)

I know zip about what the DNS Cache is - can anyone help clear this
up ?

You can try this, but it won't help; I offer it for future reference:

Open a command prompt. Type
 ipconfig/flushdns
Hit Enter. Windows replies
 Windows IP Configuration
Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache

Rationale: DNS lookup means that when you ask your browser to access a
website by name, it needs to look up the IP address (12.34.56.789) and
request that. As a time-saving efficiency measure, your computer stores
a list of name/address equivalencies so it doesn't have to keep looking
them up. Sometimes this list can become corrupted or errors can creep
in. By clearing the list, you force the browser to look them up fresh.
