Those are the settings for receiving mail from each account. Since you're having trouble sending mail, you need to check the outgoing (SMTP) settings. This has been quite a long thread, but I think I recall somewhere that AOL and/or Verizon recently changed to requiring the full email address as username? In that case, it may be that you've changed the username for the incoming servers, but not for the outgoing ones. As I mentioned in a previous post, it's also possible that both accounts are attempting to use the same outgoing server configuration, but that they now should be using different usernames (even if the server address is the same) corresponding to the different email addresses. Only one SMTP server configuration will be default, so if both accounts have been left set to use the default server, one of them might be attempting to send mail using the other's address as the login. From Edit > Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings: - Select the AOL account in the left-hand panel and see what the "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" is set to near the bottom of the dialog. - Do the same for the Verizon account. - Select "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" in the left-hand panel and see which servers you have configured. If the AOL and Verizon accounts are both set to use the same server, that may be the problem. If not, double-check the settings for both servers: - Are all the addresses, ports and authentication details correct? - In particular, is the one used by the AOL account using the AOL email address as the username, and the one used by the Verizon account using the Verizon address as the username? I don't have an account with either AOL or Verizon, so can't help with specifics of the configuration for each, but I think others here have mentioned the necessary settings which are working for them. -- Mark. ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

Simply put, I am trying to recover my ability to send messages by-way-of Verizon. Here is a little more information on that subject. I have two methods for my mail...Verizon and AOL The AOL setup on my computer occurred when AOL was purchased by Verizon...I was a long time Verizon customer when this event occurred. I continued to use my old Verizon set-up for 99% of my activity on the internet...AOL is used only when Verizon is not working properly---like now. I an not able to send my personal messages thru the Verizon system for unknown reasons...that is what I'm trying to solve at this time. All other Verizon functions have not been affected by this outgoing mail situation until yesterday evening. We are now getting the "timed out message when we attempt to download our regular mail. In fact, this message will pass thru the Verizon mail setup. Until yesterday evening, I received all of my incoming mail via Verizon as I have always done in the past. This sudden loss of capability was not as a result of any changes I made to my system. I noted as I attempted to send a message via Verizon that it suddenly asked me for my password...when I typed that into the appropriate blank, it would immediately give me a second message that "Connection to server smpt.verizon.net timed out". Later on, this same message suddenly appeared when I was not involved in sending a message. At this point, I decided to do a complete virus scan of my computer (6.5 hours) and the scan found no problems. Well, I am now back to looking at my account setup. I have many questions as to whether establishing a new account will cause me to lose all of my Inbox/Saved messages etc. Should I put them in a safe place before taking such an action? I'm also in the process of researching exactly what steps must be taken to make this a successful action.. Also, I'm not sure if my making a new setup using the same information presently used would change anything. I am very uneasy to take any first step to solve this problem when the outcome could introduce more problems. Well, I believe that covers what my problem is and what my goal is...I want to be able to send and receive messages via my Verizon account. Let me know if you would like more details/information. Frog P.S. I have noticed the time out message showing up in more and different places. ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

However, seeing this, I wonder whether the accounts might both be configured to use the same SMTP server configuration? Even though the server details might be exactly the same for AOL and Verizon, you might need to ensure that your AOL address is used as the username when sending from your AOL address, and that the Verizon address is used as the username when sending from your Verizon address. Some servers only allow you to send mail from the address you used to log in. This may not have mattered if they previously allowed only the part before the "@" to be used, particularly if that was the same for both accounts, but it might matter now if they've changed that. Try port 587 which is STARTTLS, I saw that in a site telling people how to use Thunderbird with AOL. If that does not work then you fall back to 465 = SSL/TLS, which is what the other similar sites were suggesting. I have several accounts and the split is 50% : 50% between the two variations. I changed the port number to 587 as you suggested...the default remained 465. I attempted so send myself a message with the same results. It appeared that the message was sent...the message never showed up in my inbox. I decided at this point to restore things back to the original setting pending conformation of my actions. It looks like I got things backward, if you set "Connection security" to STARTTLS then the Port gets set to 587 automatically. Setting it back to SSL/TLS reverts to 465. Read and understand the dialog window that pops up. Click the "Next" button. Enter a new profile name. Something like smtptest or verizontest. Click the "Finish" button. Did you get a password prompt, entered the password and still can't send an email? Yes, I did get the password prompt request and I did enter my password---same results. I then (leaving the change in place) decided to change the Server Name from smpt.verizon.net to smpt.aol.com. I tried to send an email test message to myself. That may be irrelevant if you managed to send a message successfully, do you have another victim you could send a message to and then ask if they got it? Assuming you have managed to work out if you can send messages or not, you can start looking at the input side of things. I sent you a long response to your mozilla.general post a day or so, if you can't retrieve messages you could have a look at that. I have several email addresses so it is a lot easier to check what is not working. I made the change you suggested (i.e. Changing the "Connection security" to STARTTLS and the port numbers changed to 587" as you said they would. I tried to send another test message and nothing happened. I then changed the Server Name from smpt.verizon.net to smpt.aol.com. and tried to send a message...and nothing at all happened. I then changed every thing back to the original settings. Yes, I did receive your earlier message and will be taking a look at it next. I continue to be very appreciative of your help...thank you very much. Frog I have come to a conclusion...I believe Verizon has lost my password. I am noticing that I am constantly being asked for my password when sending a message via verizon.net. Even when I give them my password, the message fails to send. Now I've got a new challenge...how do I get Verizon on board with my password. Any help would be appreciated. OK Cancel Help I have a verizon.net address, which I chose to retain two years ago when AOL began servicing the account (the other option was to accept the corresponding aol.com address). My settings are the same as yours, and they haven't stopped working (just tested). Under Tools | Password Manager, enter "verizon" in the search pane at top left and you should see an entry called "verizon.net" containing: mailbox://mail.verizon.net (mailbox://mail.verizon.net) prefix smtp://smtp.verizon.net (smtp://smtp.verizon.net) prefix smtp://smtp.verizon.net (smtp://smtp.verizon.net) prefix.verizon.net where "prefix" is the part of your email address before the "@" sign. I'm assuming you told SeaMonkey to remember your passwords; if not you'll have to enter your incoming and outgoing mail passwords for every transaction. If you click "Show Passwords" at the bottom right, all three should have the same password. Tech support will probably be unable to tell you your personal mail password, but if you can retrieve mail for this account, use that password (the one listed for "mailbox"). Case-sensitive, of course. SM's normal behavior when authentication fails (when a password is rejected by the server) is to prompt you to enter a new password or retry with the existing one. If it's not doing that, you can force it to do so by deleting the smtp entry in Password Manager and then trying to send mail from that account. When it prompts you, be sure to check the box telling SM to remember your password so it will create a new entry like the one you just deleted. Frog wrote: As you probably noticed in one of my earlier messages, I sent a Test message to see if I was able to send a help message to this group. That message seemed to make it to this address. Thus I am now going to state my problem and hope somebody comes to my rescue. Some time ago I was required to move my server support to AOL from Verizon. I made all of the changes at that time and all has bee working without a problem until now...I presently cannot send a normal email message from my computer via SeaMonkey (mainly) or from Mozilla, All such attempts ends with a message as follows: Outgoing server (SMTP) Server Password Required box - Use Password Manager to remember the password. OK _ Cancel_ I Have not made any changes to any settings in either SeaMonkey or Mozilla since they originally set a long while ago. I then typed in my password and this is the next message that appeared. Login to account failed Login to server smtp.verizon.net with username .failed. I then clicked cancel and got this message. SeaMonkey Message - Test Status: Connected to smtp.verizon.net Progress Cancel The green bar after Progress never closes, so I clicked Cancel. I called AOL today and (after waiting for over 2 hours on the phone waiting for a human to pick up the phone, and another almost 3 hours today before someone picked up the phone. I told them about my problem and then I was told that I had a general help desk and that I needed to talk to a technician, This person then proceeded to tell me that I could not speak to a technician until I purchased a technical support plan ($14.99). After some wrangling, He said that having this plan was the only way to get technical help...he then offered my the first 30 days free. I gave in knowing that I needed help and that I could cancel the technical support plan before the end of the 30 day period. Well I wsthen on hold for another 3 hours when I finally got to speak to a technician. He said that he was going to have to delete all messages in my Inbox, Drafts, and Trash before he could work on the problem. He wanted to know whether I had a data backup plan...and I said no. the then said that I needed to backup these files before he did any work on my system. That is where he stopped helping me. (((Please note, I was on the phone yesterday evening waiting for 3 hours for somebody to help me...I was then cot off and got a recorded message that the office was closed for the day and that I could get help from the AOL help pages,) A long story for no help. I can receive downloads on my computer without any problem. I can click on web addresses and they work. Another action that did occur during my talk with the AOL technician was one of his showing me that a message could be sent through AOL and that it would work..and it did. Thus, the only thing not working on my computer is sending email messages via SeaMonkey or Mozilla. I would appreciate any help you send my way on this subject. Windows 10 - SeaMonkey 2.531 Frog Wow!
